The tip-off is that Vulture acknowledges the sales figures in consecutive freaking sentences. If they had wanted to write even a partially-serious Pro-Archuleta piece, they would have omitted the totals like that unintentionally comical Utah newspaper article did.

And if we STILL didn't catch on, they refer to Archie's Billboard rank as the "coveted" number-two slot. Hilarious!

They honestly should have titled this blurb. "For Those American Idol Fans Who Don't Get It Yet." And the subtitle could have been "We Mean You, Noctem."

Jojosie - The Plaza (actually The Country Club Plaza) is based architecturally on Kansas City's first sister city of Seville, Spain. The entire area boasts beautiful Spanish architecture, mosaics, statues, and fountains. It was built in 1923 and is also the nation's first suburban outdoor shopping center. And seeing the Plaza lighting on TV does not do it justice. It's beautiful. And it's even more beautiful when there is snow.

I didn't make it down there like I'd hoped, so watched it on TV. At the end, they showed David and Andrew joining in the singing of the Christmas carols. David looked like he was having a blast.

I found an HQ video of the Davids being interviewed by Guillermo (from Jimmy Kimmel Live) at the AMAs. It includes Cookie singing Jingle Bells:

This brought back memories as I was there attending a meeting late this summer and we were at a hotel in the Plaza. I never even heard of it altho I'd been to KC before. It's a great historic district with lots of fun shopping, bars and restaurants. It's also extremely hilly in parts. I wish I was there tonight, and in the same hotel as it was on a hill and the view would be fantastic. I did go thru Blue Springs also. Thought about DC growing up there. It seemed like an upscale nice suburb town. Hope he tours somewhere near me as I'd love to see him perform in person, just not read about it.

David Archuleta Massacres David Cook on Albums Chart

At least they didn't say one of them crushed the other one. :tongue_wink_ee:

ETA: I can't get the Plaza Lighting video above to work- maybe it was only a live stream? Or is it my computer? Anyway, I found this article with videos at the same station.

"I imagine them sitting in their office just giggling insanely over the comments from both Cook and Archie fans. I think the entire thing is much more a take on the rabid responses of American Idol fans than anything to do with the idols themselves." I agree with this 100%. It's really snark on the whole AI thing. However, someone at New York magazine does like Archie because Crush showed up on their approval matrix chart a few weeks ago. It was rated high on cheese but also high on excellence. Sort of like a guilty pleasure.

I still say that Vulture is and has been trying to be snarky and generally not doing a very good job of it. The writers may like one, both, or neither of the Davids, but, to me, the articles are not about expressing a real opinion, but to be sarcastic.

Jenni, my post wasn't directed at you or anything you said, just at the topic in general. I just used a quote as a jumping off place, and I was responding to many posts I see here, not one person's thoughts by any means.

Whoa. I never said there was anything wrong with being a fan. There is nothing wrong in my mind with picking a favorite and voting, with buying an album once they release one or paying for a concert ticket. That, to me, is normal fan stuff and I don't think anyone anywhere is going to question the validity of such acts. But maybe it'd be nice to be able to leave the competition behind once it's over. That's all. The phenomenon of it lasting past the show itself seems to be what Vulture is commenting on and I think it makes an interesting observation and becomes a little petri dish of what American Idol can bring out in some people.

Even most Guns n Roses fans got over the Motley Crue feud, after all, and that was far more epic than anything Idol could come up with. Hell, Vince Neil challenged Axl to a real fight!

Not that we needed more proof of how invested people get in the show or how strongly people will defend their favorites, but still.

I don't see anything wrong with getting invested in the show. If people didn't vote (though I don't anymore but many do), there wouldn't be a show or any winners. If people didn't become fans and vote for their faves and buy their cds, none of these kids would have a career to start with. And it's only natural that people will defend singers they care about and believe in, from unfair or OTT criticisms.

When the fan support crosses a line into obsession that's when it becomes a problem, or when fans can't handle even fair and reasonable criticsm. It's fair to question obsessiveness or poke fun at it, but is it really fair to ridicule people for simply being fans? Even "cool" bands like GNR have fans, who buy their cds and attend their concerts. Without fans, none of them would make a dime.

It irks me when all Idol fans are ridiculed, as happens now before they even become obsessive or compulsive. Idol-tard and sites like that are now in the business of ridiculing fans, and if there were no fans to ridicule, those sites would have no reason to even exist.

Sure we could all be dispassionate and removed from it all, too cool and wise to become fans, but this blog and others like it would not have anything worth reading if there were no artists to follow and no fans who cared what they did.

So I don't mind pointing out obsessive OTT behavior, but I kind of resent the current knee-jerk dismissal of anyone who's a fan at all. And that's what it seems to be coming to.

Should we all be ashamed of being fans, of having favorites? This whole Idol business is becoming so dog-eat-dog and like shark-infested waters. Everyone's ashamed to be a fan, or afraid of being the wrong kind of fan, and where's the fun in it?

I didn't know anything about "the vulture" or this blog, so took it at face value.

Actually now that I re-read it, the joke seems to be at Archie's expense and not David Cook's. Or at least it ridicules them equally.

I read it early in the morning, too early to get the snark I guess.
