Oh yes, me too. Just because something is pretty, in the right hands (or voice, I guess, or even a combination thereof) it doesn’t have to be shallow. And it’s funny you should mention Todd Rundgren — I recently bought digital versions of a couple of his songs while trying to put together digital versions of some of my old mix tapes and after re-listening, went back and bought some CDs. Such terrific melodies.

Not a problem — I just hope her band will be able to pick up whatever it is and run with it. I am really eager to hear them live. I like what I’ve heard of her guitar player.

In my case, I was very conflicted about that clip, because I felt the chorus was ridiculously over-produced but I loved the verse. Still have a problem with the over-produced chorus, but happy about the rest!

Yeah, I remember when you said that, and frankly I disagree — I think the jumps between low and high in the melody make it a bit of a challenge. Then again, I’m an instrumentalist, not a singer. Well, and you did say “any competent singer”, so maybe just forget I said that!

Thanks for the Allison review, JohnM! Glad to hear about wailing on Still Breathing – one of my favs from the clips. And I know I’ll love JLY and DWTP based on the acoustic performances. Really glad to hear good things about “D” and “You Don’t Know Me”, too.

Discussion was never wheter it would or not be second to New Moon.

It was part of the discussion, because I always brought it in. They were both filmed near where I live and I could tell the difference in buzz factor between the two for the last year. A few people posted that “2012″ would be the biggest film left to come out this year. I never disputed it would be big. I just thought it would be not as big as “New Moon”.

Both Alli and Adam are associated with big box office draws, so it’s all good.

This stuff is always exaggerated. And I really hate for this kind of meta discussion to take up space in the thread. Let’s stick to discussing the NEWS.

Based on the 30-second clips, I had a feeling that D Is For Dangerous would be a favorite of mine, and it is, quite possibly my co-favorite along with Trouble Is, WHICH IS GORGEOUS!!

She really wails in the bridge, just like in the acoustic performances, as well as on the outride. Also, if you’ve heard the acoustic performances, you know the rapid-fire repetition of the title line toward the end — those are in the album version too, as backing harmony.

I frankly wasn’t swooning over the clip of Scars, but I found the full track to be more beautiful, as I hoped.

I wasn’t wild about the clip of No One Else, and I’d still put it in the bottom half. But there’s a cool surprise waiting for you in the bridge that I promise will make you go, “Whoa! WTF?!”

Beat Me Up is as fun as expected, very rockin, with a great ending. Not sure it’s going to be near the top of my list, though.

I really like You Don’t Know Me, and I’m very glad because it’s the one she co-wrote. Might end up as one of my favorites.

This wasn’t the deluxe version of the album, so we didn’t hear El Viernes Te Olvido Yo or Don’t Wanna Be Wrong — bummer. But a good time — and my daughter found a cool hat that we bought!

A few people thought 2012 the movie would flop. I can’t recall anyone saying it would ruin Adam’s career. If there were, it was one person, maybe two. The pile-on afterward, I’m sure, was many times bigger, as it usually happens.

Like last night, 2 or 3 people talked about Adam’s career failing. I won’t be surprised to see somebody post later about the “many people on the blog who want to see Adam’s career fail.”

I still don’t get, why they are not use the movie as an entry to the international market and push Adam’s video for TFM there.
I always thought that was the intent for the video, but as far as I can tell there is nothing going on.

The song was recorded for the movie only. That is all Sony was interested in. The big money was in the movie not the song.

I thought the movie looked like a flop but I was wrong. But so was Brian May who predicted TfM would be a sure fire #1.

While I have seen allegations that this happened, I have never seen anyone say that 2012 flopping would harm AL’s career. That would be quite a claim, if it were ever made, and I can’t believe that anyone would have given any credence to someone making such a claim.
