Phillip Phillips, The Lumineers, And The Mumford-ization Of Pop – The incessant shopping trips start to make your life feel like a single, unbroken stream of home-furnishings-related commerce when you reach a certain age and all your friends get married. So I’m not sure when or why I was in a mall parking lot with my wife when I first heard “Home” on the radio this year. What I do remember is that the song struck me as slightly unusual for WNCI, the local top-40 station we were bumping on that particular Macy’s trip. The chorus reached to the heavens on the strength of acoustic guitars, arching choral harmonies and a relentless 4/4 thud maintained by kick drum and stomping feet. The earnest lead vocal was a robust tenor accented with folksy tremble and weathered beyond its years like distressed denim. The chorus went like this: “Settle down, it’ll all be clear / Don’t pay no mind to the demons that fill you with fear / The trouble it might drag you down / If you get lost, you can always be found / Just know you’re not alone / Because I’m gonna make this place your home.” This had to be Mumford & Sons, right? – Read more at Stereogum

Phillip Phillips Calls His Own Shots on Debut Album – “That was the biggest thing, man,” he tells Rolling Stone, referring to his outside-the-box vision for The World From the Side of the Moon, due today. “I wanted to have a lot of freedom on the album.” It’s rare that winning a singing competition gives an artist the power to call his own shots. But thankfully for Phillips, Interscope head Jimmy Iovine had mentored the singer on Idol, and had witnessed firsthand his knack for turning left-field decisions into melodic gold. The two had what Phillips describes as a “good talk” about the album, after which Iovine gave the singer free rein. “He had a lot of trust in me,” Phillips says. “I felt really good about that. He wanted me to make the album I wanted to which I thought was really awesome of him.” – Read more at Rolling Stone

Phillip Phillips looks at life beyond “American Idol” – Q: How do you plan to transition from “American Idol” winner to a mainstream music career? A: “It’s pretty funny that you mention that because the majority of the people I meet don’t even know that I was on ‘Idol.’ It’s really cool to hear that. When I go home, people ask, ‘What’ve you been doing? I’ve heard your song,’ but they don’t even know that I’ve been on ‘Idol.'” Q: Would you do anything differently next time? A: “It’s still early, but I’d definitely want a little more time to do it. But that’s really about it, because three weeks is just really quick, and also I have just so many other things going on. … It was very kind of stressful and hopefully for the next record I’ll have a little more time.” – Read more at Reuters

Carrie Underwood On ‘Nashville’: ‘We’re Not That Scandalous’ – Underwood might have some acting in her future. Though vague on the subject, she promises there’s something very different in line for her in the new year. It’s “something really different that would be out of my comfort zone, a really wonderful thing to put on my ‘I did that’ list,” she said. Before that she will spend time doing much more familiar activity, touring, with another 40 dates added to her spring 2013 itinerary. It makes for a lot of time on the road, but for Underwood it’s fine – it means people are interested. “Everything is going extremely well so far for the next leg. It’s exciting.” – Read more at Rolling Stone

Adam Lambert Takes The ‘Diva’ Test – VH1 might get in trouble for choosing Adam Lambert to host their 2012 Divas concert because, for the first time in franchise history, the host has better pipes than the Divas taking to the stage. Nah, I’m just playin’ around, but Adam best be planning to rock the mic right alongside this year’s celebrated crop of dancing Divas, as Ciara, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Jordin Sparks are set to slay in the first ever VH1 Divas Dance Party! So lock the door, fire up the smoke machine and put on your heels because it all goes down December 16 at 9 p.m. on VH1 and scored an exclusive first look at three commercials, starring Adam Lambert, that will begin airing tonight! – See the Videos at The Insider

Chris Daughtry Shares His Tips for Keeping Fit on the Road – “When I’ve gone on tour in the past, everything has gone out the window,” he tells PEOPLE. “Late-night eating, junk food, pizza, donuts, beer. I gained 25 lbs. and I didn’t realize it until I saw photos myself and I went, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t even see my jawline. Who is that guy?’ ” Sitting at home with PEOPLE, Daughtry shares his rules for maintaining his six pack while away from home. – Read more at People

Nightclub to ‘Glee’ Star You Don’t Pay … You Don’t Get In – “Glee” star Amber Patrice Riley threw a childish self-important temper tantrum last night at a NYC nightclub — all because the club refused to supply her 30-PERSON party with an arsenal of free booze — this according to the nightclub in question. In case you missed it, Amber went off the rails on Twitter last night when WIP nightclub put the kibosh on her party plans — writing, “Never in my life have I dealt with such disrespect. That club @WIPNewYork on Vandam street, they are CROOKS and LIARS!” FYI — WIP nightclub is the place where the infamous Drake vs. Chris Brown brawl went down earlier this year. – Read more at TMZ

Chris Colfer has all the luck – Turning a screenplay into a book seems like kind of a backward adaptation. Oh, it totally was. It was really a very unique process. I wrote the screenplay, and the way the screenplay is formatted compared to the way the movie was edited is completely different. There are many scenes that were cut — well, there were many scenes that had to be cut because we couldn’t afford to film them. – Read more at Metro.US

    That Stereogum article is interesting.

  • milwlovesadam

Those Diva commercials are to die for.

No females needed on the show.

Nope. Just give us an hour of Adam, or two or three….

  • marmom07

Adam’s VH1 Divas videos are hysterical!!!  I refuse to admit to how many times I may have re-watched them.

  • lovetheusa1776

Yes – the comments on the article were interesting, too.

  • Esqt

Marking my calendar for this VH1 Divas. I’m sick and tired of the usual suspects – Kelly, Carrie, Katy, Gaga, Rihanna, P!nk, Christina – on my tv ALL the time, so i’m excited for this one.

  • asifclueless

The VH1 Divas commercials are on YouTube now .. in case inter fans can’t open the VH1 ones.

Michael Johns is on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills tonight. David Fosters wife is one of the housewives and they’re having a dinner party and Michael Johns is singing.

  • Kariann Hart

The Divas commercial show such a playful side of Adam.  Love it!

I wonder if Carrie will be a mentor on Idol?  That would be different.  That would be cool!

  • Nadine_Bitch

Thank you Asif…. lol he’s so funny:)

  • durbesque

Old guy watching Letterman….”Hey, Mabel, come here, it’s the blind boy from American Idol singing that Mumford song.”

  • lovetheusa1776

     So true.

  • suenigma

Those Adam VH1 Diva commercials are ADORABLE!

ETA: I will be watching almost exclusively for Adam. Not a single one of the “Divas”, with the possible exception of Jordin, excites me in the least.

  • zaclona77

Old guy watching Letterman….”Hey, Mabel, come here, it’s the blind boy from American Idol singing that Mumford song.”

OMG, there is so much wrong with that but you just totally made my day! Pls say thanks to the old guy from me!

Confirmed:  Adam will be performing at the 2012 Mnet Asian Music Awards, to be held Nov. 30th in Hong Kong:

At the press roundtable for 2012 MAMA held on November 20, the producers of MAMA announced that Adam Lambert, the star of American Idol 8, and Billboard chart-topping hip-hop artist B.o.B will be performing at MAMA this year.

Director Han Dong Chul said, “Adam Lambert is a global artist that made it to the finals of American Idol 8,
and recently went on tour with the members of Queen. B.o.B is also a
musician that became globally renowned with his hit Nothin? On You,
which topped Billboard?s singles chart two weeks in a row.”

Great opportunity, and great exposure, for Adam in the lucrative Asian market!

And on another note…I just can’t stop watching those Divas promos.  Not only is he absolutely frigging adorable in them, but he even gets the chance to show off those killer pipes.  Totally made of win.

Nice that Rolling Stone is giving P2 some attention ( altho they didn’t give the album a good review, at least they reviewed it). Interesting piece

Kariann Hart: I wonder if Carrie will be a mentor on Idol?  That would be different.  That would be cool!

The 2nd leg of Carrie’s BA tour runs through May 13th so, I don’t think mentoring AI is the project she’s talking about. That wouldn’t be out of her comfort zone anyway. Whatever she’s talking about is supposed to happen after the end of the BA tour (she mentioned this in an interview she did with Atlantic City Insiders too). Rolling Stone implied the project includes an acting component but, there’s no quote from Carrie about that.

From Carrie’s comment that it’d be something wonderful she’d be able to put on her “I did that” list I thought it might be a live theatre/Broadway gig. Carrie randomly started following Bette Midler recently so maybe there’s a connection there. There were rumors a couple years ago that Dolly Parton wanted Carrie to play her in a Broadway musical about her life but, I don’t know how far along that project is. The Loretta Lynn musical Coal Miners Daughter with Zooey Deschanel seems like it’s much further along. There’s also a bunch of musicals already running though, I’m not sure which ones would fit Carrie and vice versa (Wicked, maybe?). It could also be something TV or movie related though Carrie already done the TV guest star and supporting actress in a movie thing.

That video of Mike interviewing Carrie was hilarious. Shameless flirting!

  • Nadine_Bitch

So he will not be at the Hainan Beach Festival? I’ve read the organizers really wanted him to be their guest. That was a huge festival.

  • Diana Adams Tyler

Carrie seems so much more relaxed and uninhibited since marriage.  They make such a cute couple and totally in love.

  • Sharon S.

No, he (or his management) decided against it in the end, which I would assume they did not do lightly given all the negotiating.  This China trip is intriguing; I’d love to know what’s been going on behind the scenes.

  • bridgette12

This is a interesting trip, everyday something new keeps popping up. I hope we get some photoshoots in between his performances
