Jessica Simpson & Jennifer Hudson Show Off Weight Loss in New Ad – Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Hudson have a lot in common, specifically when it comes to balancing their careers with motherhood. Now Simpson, 32, and Hudson, 31, have one more similarity to add to the list – they’ve both shed serious pounds thanks to Weight Watchers. Shakira And Usher Bring New Competitive Edge to ‘The Voice’ – When we spoke to Usher at iHeart Radio in Las Vegas in September he promised to promote a competitive edge, but he isn’t the only one bringing that attitude. At the audition we saw some friendly competition between Usher and Shakira over one contestant, and when Usher bested Levine for another vocalist at the audition, he playfully taunted his fellow judge. During a junket featuring all four judges and show creator Mark Burnett, Shelton confirmed this season will give new meaning to the term “battle rounds.” “I would say the competitiveness is up,” he said. “We’ve replaced Cee Lo with somebody that’s just that much more aggressive. And Christina was always competitive, [but] now you’ve got four that are just killers up here.” – Read more at Rolling Stone

Woohoo James’ StageIt show today! Can’t wait!

  • justmefornow

I’m assuming just James and his guitar tonight.
Any news on Blake and Jeff and where they are?

  • Jordana33

Now I’m really looking forward to seeing Shakira and Usher on The Voice after reading the Rolling Stones article. It looks like Shakira is going to be a thorn in Adam’s side, LOL!

  • DragonFly

Not advertising w/this but that’s a great top tipper prize:  1 caricature, signed setlist, signed cd.   Imagine a few will want the artwork he’s offering too.   Waiting for the show, bring it!!!

  • Jordana33

Rolling Stones talks about the most robbed Voice and X Factor contestants of this season. There were a lot of great contestants on the Voice who didn’t even make it to the live rounds, and it’s cool that Lindsey Parker mentions some of them.

  • irockhard

I have no idea, probably, I haven’t heard anything about Jeff and Blake joining in.

  • DragonFly

From James FB “…. Practiced my set. Very excited to play some of these songs for you all. Its just gonna be me and my guitar. Got some old stuff, some new stuff, and this will be the first and last time that I play “Everything Burns” FYI..Got about 12 rockin songs for you!! Rockin your New Year!!

  • irockhard

Usher brings in his own experience, having mentored Justin Bieber to the top of the charts, and Levine says that does count for a lot. “As much as I hate to say this about another coach in the beginning, Usher has done what this show has yet to do,” he says. “You have launched a superstar, and that’s our goal. That’s the show’s goal. That’s something we want to do as an institution.”

Usher agreed. “The one thing that I hope is to come into this show and be able to score an incredible entertainer that people will talk about for years and years and track it back,” he says. “I am kind of a living example of that. I started on Star Search, and my career kind of launched from there.”

So The Voice has changed it’s tune about it not being necessary to find a superstar?

  • Jordana33

I guess that depends on who you consider to be the official voice of The Voice.

I thought it was pretty clear when they pimped the hell out of Cassadee Pope. lol

  • lovetheusa1776

Believe Shakira and Usher will be great additions – looking forward to the change.

  • roarpen

It’s just James and his guitar….in 5 minutes!

  • roarpen

James just spontaneously sang an Elvis song – so much fun!

  • roarpen

OMG Everything Burns was wonderful. And a Mumfordesque version of Right Behind You.

  • roarpen

Great, intense song about a suicide,,,whew. and now James is covering Pink’s Try.

  • roarpen

    Over now.

  • durbesque

I thought I’d be disappointed with just James and his guitar.  Silly me.  He quickly remided me that he is the greatest living singer.

  • irockhard

    Deets please! I missed it!

  • roarpen

You missed it???? Couldn’t you get it in SA?

  • justmefornow

How can just James and a guitar be so entertaining? lol.
Boy, did he get better on guitar or what? Love the Elvis cover, the Pink cover and the suicide song “We Would Have Loved You Anyway”.
And his voice sounded in top form!
Apparently he goes back out on tour in March?

  • irockhard

I could but my connection can’t handle live streams, it would’ve been too painful to enjoy.

  • justmefornow

I’m really sorry, because he was great!!!
He answered two of my questions, one about touring and one about what’s up with Blake and Jeff – Jeff’s in NY, Blake’s in LA, doing their own thing right now, (Hmmm?)

Someone also asked if he had a bass player yet, and he said maybe (kinda teasingly).

  • tripp_ncwy

    OMG!!!  Kris

    Kimberly Allen @allen_kimberly
From Kris: he’s in a lot of pain, arm broke, may not play guitar for a while. Prayers welcome please! #headoncollision pic.twitter.com/VLwe5FYP

  • justmefornow

And a neck brace too!? Was he in a car accident or something?

Ok, I see, car accident. Hope he’s ok.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

OMG! My fave winner in a car accident!? My poor guy, hope he’s alright :(

  • keware

Not sure where to put this…but Ayla Brown just sang the National Anthem at the Orange Bowl and it was awesome! Seriously great! The crowd seemed to enjoy it also.

  • irockhard

He must be referring to himself then as the new bassist, LOL.

So he starts touring again in March? I know he has a college campus gig booked for March.

I’m hearing from others that he said the album might be delayed cause he wants all the songs to be killer. Oh no, not good!

James please DON’T lock yourself up in the studio trying to create a masterpiece. Get yourself out there touring pronto and get the album out before summer. Don’t make the mistake Haley made!

  • girlygirltoo

So scary! Kim’s hashtag on her tweet reads that Kris was in a headon collision. Hoping for a speedy recovery!

  • durbesque

Terrible news.  Hope he can heal enough to tour.  Might need another guitarist for the band.  Neck brace worries me too…might affect his singing.

  • Karen C

They do put a neck brace on when someone is in a car accident until the dr sees them even if they don’t think there is a neck injury

  • justmefornow

I got the impression the delay could be part of a direction change perhaps?
I asked him if the next album would be heavier, but he didn’t answer. He said he was concentrating on still writing and would be in NYC in a week or so for more writing, but didn’t mention with whom.

He did another killer acoustic HTH with a cool new ending too. This was great, hope it surfaces on YouTube.

He finished the show with the new song “Santa Cruz”. It’s always hard to tell with acoustic, but this one sounded like it could have a punk leaning sound.

  • girlygirltoo

    So scary!

  • loveroftalent

    OMG…Is Kris ok…

  • bridgette12

I hope Kris is going to be okay. What a scary situation for him and his family.

  • tripp_ncwy

    From Kris’ pastor;

    Rick Bezet @rick_bezet
I’m at the hospital with @KrisAllen! He and Katy had a head on collision but they are ok! He broke his arm but wife is great

  • bridgette12

Glad to hear it, it certainly could have been a whole lot worse than a broke arm.

  • girlygirltoo

Kris’ wife Katy was in the car too, but she evidently wasn’t injured.

  • girlygirltoo

Sounds like he will be ok. Broke his arm and is in a neck brace, though.

  • http://twitter.com/shoriagirl Shoria

    Get well soon, Kris!

  • DragonFly

“I could but my connection can’t handle live streams, it would’ve been too painful to enjoy.”

My problem also but had to get in on it anyway.  Did catch a good part of the Elvis bit.  That was funny with Elvis “comic graphics” over James as he sang and he fit right into character!  He had the look & impersonation down perfect.  NEED to hear it better somewhere!!!!–sounded great what I could get to come out though.

  • irockhard

Maybe, but I’m not liking how “up in the air” stuff is right now. Holidays are done, now he and his team need to start sorting out the things that need to be sorted out.

  • loveroftalent

Thanks for letting us know that he will be ok…

  • justmefornow

lol. I heard the whole thing loud and clear. He was dead on Elvis! Voice and even the curled lip. Just great. He’s a born entertainer.

  • getaway1

Just saw this about Kris.  Even though it didn’t sound like anyone was seriously injured, it can still be a scary thing.  Having a broken arm isn’t any fun:(

  • justmefornow

I don’t like it either. I really feel if the band had stayed together they’d be touring right now! He can’t keep Blake and Jeff hanging or they will move on too. They need to start setting up tour dates NOW for late winter/early spring.
And I’ll add, you could tell from his forceful guitar playing and powerhouse singing tonight he needs to get out there on a stage somewhere soon!
(I even told him in my comments to get his ass in gear and get out there soon too, lol)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/HWRPW434YQTROZ3J5E4BSLWEYM H.A.

Hope Kris Allen is fine. Thank goodness it wasn’t serious. Wish him well.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y2H6IQWNMTSNTCTWDP7TDFEKPY Linda

Thank God Kris and Katy are alright. I hope there’s nothing else other that what we already know about his arm. I was going to see him in two weeks for the Annapolis show that was cancelled back when Hurricane Sandy hit. So worried he’ll have to cancel again. Poor guy:(
    Sending prayers his way.

  • HMc

    testing

  • HMc

James said they would be touring starting in March. From a twitter conversation last week James said the album would be out mid 2013, I am guessing that hasn’t changed.

In the chat the other day James said the second album would have more “metal elements” than MOABD …not sure what that means. Do you have any thoughts ?

I am sorry your connection wasn’t good, I am not in the US but I was lucky :) It was a really good show.

Sorry to hear about Kris A. it sounds like it could have been a lot worse.

  • tripp_ncwy

    Update from Kris’ mom

    Kimberly Allen @allen_kimberly
Kristopher and Katy are both pretty beat up but ALIVE! Thank you Jesus! They are setting his arm now and will have surgery tomorrow.

#Zorro is fine too! Very shook up, but not injured.

  • loveroftalent

This is what is important…Not some comments made about about a movie.  This could have been such a tradegy

  • justmefornow

    Sending good thoughts his way.

  • justmefornow

I think the “metal elements” are the change somewhat in direction I was referring to.
He’s been dropping hints lately about a heavier sound than the first stuff they wrote in Nashville, and writing lately with more metal (Halestorm) co-writers.

I was thinking this could be part of the release delay til mid 2013.

  • fantoo1

Wow how scary for Kris and his wife! What a bad way to start off the new year. Hopefully he can still do the tour and will just get somebody else to play the guitar while he sings. But right now, the most important thing is that he is alive.

  • durbesque

I tried to play guitar, and the left hand is the one that does all the hard stuff.  What is the normal healing time for a broken arm?  This is a most unfortunate set-back at this time.  But, thank God, it isn’t worse.  A head-on collision can be disastrous.

  • roarpen

Oh my, I hope he is ok. Isn’t he just about to go out on tour? I hope he is ok.

  • roarpen

“I think the “metal elements” are the change somewhat in direction I was referring to.
He’s been dropping hints lately about a heavier sound than the first stuff

    co-writers.”
I guess I haven’t been around much lately. When did he write with Halestorm? And what has he been saying about going heavier. I agree with irockhard – big mistake to take too long between albums trying to get it perfect. He does need to love the music but….. he also needs to just get it out there along with himself and his band.
Loved loved loved Everything Burns and the heavy song about death…seemingly by suicide, but it could have been about his father’s overdose? Isn’t that the song that he tweeted lyrics too a couple months back?

  • justmefornow

He was in LA about a month ago? (not sure exactly-late Nov.early Dec?) and writing with Scott Stevens who co-wrote Halestorm’s “I Miss the Misery”. From the sound of the tweets then, pretty heavy kick ass stuff.
I also loved tonight “We Would Have Loved You Anyway” which he wrote with James Michael and Blair Daly in Nashville. You could tell this full band version is going to be pretty heavy, can’t wait to hear it!

But most importantly, I too feel he needs to get out there in some performing capacity, keeps his name mentioned and on people’s radar. He thrives best in a live performing setting, IMO.

  • sabbia

I’m another who missed James’ StageIt show. From what I’m gathering, it sounds like he played only 2 new songs…is this correct? Did both have a punk leaning sound? I realize it is difficult to determine from an acoustic set.

I find it very curious, too, that he is back writing for the album. Did James mention if Jeff and Blake are going to be in NYC with him writing? If not, it’s even more puzzling. I noticed someone  say that during the show that the album delay had something to do with the change in direction…it’s almost as if he has been taken the comments posted here to heart.

  • girlygirltoo

Has James started recording for his next album yet, or is he still in the writing stage?

  • justmefornow

Another one who missed it? :(
He sang the suicide song “We Would Have Loved You Anyway”, GREAT song, will probably be a pretty heavy rock track with the full band, “Enemies Like You”, which he partially sang before, “We all Go Marching On”, sang before, and ended with “Santa Cruz” the one I think may have a punk leaning sound with a full band.

He didn’t mention who he’d be writing with in NYC. But I find it curious too. I don’t think Blake and Jeff are writing with him. And James Michael’s in Nashville.
    So yeah, WTF?

(And I do think he still peaks in here occasionally. We talk about the music here. Some of his other fans go on and on about non-music related nonsense, IMO. Probably why I can’t be bothered with some of those fan sites.)

  • tucker davis
  • sabbia

Thanks, G! ITA about the fan sites. I lurked in on a couple of the FB ones to get info on how the show went and there is absolutely nothing mentioned about it except for a collage of screenshots of James from the show someone made.

To each their own but I find it a bit ironic that I get much more meaty information about James here.

  • HMc

I thought he wrote with Jeff, Blake and James Michael in Nashville for the month of Sept & part of October . I watched the stageit show and I missed if he said something different about Nashville. Or maybe I misunderstood your post.

  • justmefornow

lol. I’m so with you. You can tell from the comments that scroll by during the show, *shakes head*
(probably why he answered two of my more relevant questions about Jeff, Blake and touring).

  • sabbia

That’s a good question. I am not certain if he did any recording while he and the rest of the band were in Nashviller. I was assuming they did not record anything yet.

  • justmefornow

He did write and record with them there in Sept. and October. But went to LA and wrote without them later in the fall/winter, and now is apparently going to NYC to write without them again.
Is that what you are asking about?

  • sabbia

Yes, Jeff and Blake were with him in Nashville but we were wondering about James’ future writing session in NYC…I believe he is going there this coming week or shortly thereafter.

  • sabbia

Oh, so they did do some recording in Nashville?

  • justmefornow

Yes, they did some recording, but they could have all been demos possibly.

  • HMc

I didn’t say who he was writing with but I didn’t think that it necessarily meant it was without Jeff & Blake, I thought it was kind of ambiguous . He did say Jeff is currently in New York.

  • justmefornow

Jeff’s from NY, probably home for the holidays, so yeah, I guess it’s possible. He was rather vague about the whole NYC trip, right? Who knows?
WindUp’s headquarters is in NYC, so maybe they have some input on this?

  • HMc

You are probably right about Jeff being home for the holidays. Yep James was rather vague bout the NYC trip…
Sometimes I feel that James was given such grief for sharing too much the first time around that now in some ways he shares too little.

Those were the best 60 continuous minutes I’ve ever heard from James Durbin. He was better than never. It seems that he’s a natural WGWG. lol

I just didn’t like too much the 30STM’s cover. Since Idol I realized James and 30STM don’t belong together. lolBut other than that, everything was perfect.

Has anyone recorded the Pink’s cover? That was something!

  • justmefornow

Actually these two are the only ones so far on YouTube.
And I agree if he had been this awesome of a WGWG on Idol he would have had it in the bag, lol.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7G6Anh4oHg

  • sabbia

Wow…I *love* the melody of that tune. It fits the subject matter of the song perfectly—a bit melancholy at the right places to enhance the lyrics.

And on a side note: Is that a Heisenberg T-shirt James is wearing. LOL!

  • justmefornow

    lol.

  • justmefornow

Sabbia, seems like someone may have been peeking in here again, lol.
James answered our question about whether they were recording or just writing in Nashville:

    James Durbin ?@DurbinRock
Almost every new song we’ve written (about 25) for the new record, has already been recorded. We’re killin it!! For YOU the fans!!

  • MellyPer1692

No way James would have ever beaten Scotty. Scotty was a shoe in from the word go.

  • justmefornow

Yeah, no kidding, thus the “lol” in my post.
