I’m so sad that it appears the dance phenomenon is disappearing faster than singing shows. I seriously loved what DWTS, SYTYCD and ABDC have done for the dance community. It made others watching wanting to do what Travis Wall or Twitch do, or have groups like Jabawockees (not sure I spelled that right, LOL) get a break they have been looking for. Julianne Hough would never have a deal if it weren’t for DWTS. Now Cheryl and Maks can open their own dance studios.

I love dancing, I initially wanted to be a dancer. What dancers do, putting their bodies on the line doing all these amazing moves and tricks, is much more interesting to me than what someone trying to remake a pop song, if I’m honest. Before Idol, it was ABDC and DWTS. I think MTV killed ABDC with some truly poor changes, but alas the ratings says it all.

RIP America’s Best Dance Crew :'(

I’m about the last person to comment on a country song, but I wondered why the KLC post count was still at zero…messing with the Karma of Kristy Lee? smh

    So I went to listen.

Although she’s always been a pretty girl, she looks quite attractive in the video – some sort of gauzy special effect with the camera, and the song was so very appropriate for Veteran’s Day – reminding me of the era she was singing about…but it could apply to any Vet.

She did a nice job honoring her Dad – but when I went to say so – that post has no capability to comment – so I couldn’t. That explains the 0 posts – it’s broken.

  • mmmtx

I came here Incipit to make exactly the same comment: there is no way anyone can comment on the Kristy Lee Cook video on that thread.  So…I thought the video was a fitting tribute to those who fought in Viet Nam, but even more, the song itself is beautiful and I hope it is a hit on country radio.

“James Durbin’s sophomore album is due out on Wind-Up Records in May 2013″

  • irockhard

I was just about to post that! OMG DANG! This really rocks! I’m so excited, it’s awesome, and everything I love about James! Can’t wait till tomorrow!

  • justmefornow

I just found this too! Nice rock/punk hybrid sound. I love it!
I knew I’d be glad James Michael was producing album #2. Can’t wait now to hear what else they’ve been cooking up. I think the new album is really going to rock!

(And James, great job on bass with this.)

  • irockhard

Blake also did a great job on guitar, assuming it’s him playing, love the “Christmas, Christmas, Christmaassss” part, it reminds me of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. It can hear influence of Zeppelin too when it kicks out of the little guitar solo. There’s a strong punk rock undercurrent throughout and his vocals are pure hair metal. Overall great rendition.

    Colton Dixon @coltondixon
Big announcement coming in an hour!!!! #albumnews

  • justmefornow

It sounds like Blake, heavy hand, not too complicated riffs, but perfect for this song. That’s a pretty full sound too with just lead, bass and drums. Nice little bluesy vibe at the end too.
Nice combo of sounds. Really making it his own version. Just jamming around and on one take too! I’m really impressed.
    Good job guys!

I’m sorry, I wish Colton the best of luck, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the name of his album.  I get it.  I do.  He’s stood behind his beliefs since day one, but it’s all just a little too literal for me.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

He’s stood behind his beliefs since day one, but it’s all just a little too literal for me.

Well, it’s basically Self-Titled Album for the Slow Reader… Self-titled albums are nothing new, but he’s running up the banners of “no, I’m not a carpet-bagger to CCM despite the occasional pro-Marilyn Manson tweet” and “if you buy this because you thought I was clever on Idol, be warned I’m singin’ about Jesus.”

    Alternative titles that were rejected:
Pride Goeth Before the Top Six
Jesus Built My Yamaha Baby Grand
Pour A Little Proverbs On Me, Baby

I’m now taking a moment of silence (interspersed with giggles) to contemplate the possibilities if all self-titled Idol albums came with an explanatory phrase to spell things out to the slower Rolling Stone reviewers.

So…Scotty’s only on campus at NCState for classes Monday through Wednesday.  On Tuesdays, he plays flag football.  Well, tonight his team plays for the Intramural flag football championship.

And ESPN is broadcasting the game, with Jenn Brown interviewing the guys.  More details when we get them.:))))

  • girlygirltoo

ESPN is seriously hurting for programming if they are showing an intramural flag football game.

trying to figure out ways to Shimmy with Demi and swindle a pic with
    Brit. Hmmmmm…..

I think that some sports people are intrigued by Scotty trying to do it all–and his love of sports.  He’s already been interviewed by SportsCenter and was a guest on the Fantasy Football show.  Still, my guess is that they would only show highlights plus the interviews, maybe even on ESPN3…

D Cook was writing songs again today.

    Emerson Hart
    ?@emersonhart

    Great write today with @thedavidcook
    Fantastic singer.

    David Cook
    ?@thedavidcook

Had an absolute blast writing with @emersonhart. Great hang, as well. Double whammy.

Emerson Hart is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Tonic.

So far we know that David has collaborated with Cary Barlow, Devin Bronson, Blair Daly, Kevin Griffin, Emerson Hart, David Hodges, Daniel James, Josh Jenkins, Jaren Johnston, Josh Kelley, Zac Maloy, Steve Miller, and Andy Skib.  His “Code of Silence” might be weakening. ;)

  • Incipit

    Very cool, wordnerdarchie!

DC tweeted something last week about writing and rehearsing – and Andy Skib was in Nashville for a writing week also, according to Zac Maloy.

Lotta people going around mumbling “S**N” under their breath like a mantra. *snerk*

  • girlygirltoo

I doubt it has anything to do with Scotty.  ESPN broadcasts weird events like this because they have so many channels that they need to fill up the schedule. They probably scheduled this long before they even knew what schools were playing.

  • wordnerdarchie

Lotta people going around mumbling “S**N” under their breath like a mantra. *snerk*

Incipit, there’s that 4-letter word again. Lol!!!

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

The intramural game is just between teams on NCState campus…pretty hard to believe they’d just randomly televise an on-campus event without there being some draw…

  • Incipit

Emerson Hart is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Tonic.

wordnerdarchie, after I read your post about the collaboration earlier, I kept thinking that name and the band Tonic was familiar…so I checked archives elsewhere. Turns out there was good reason – Tonic opened for David at a handful of shows on the Neverending Declaration Tour in ’09…notably the return engagement at the Borgata in AC, September 26th of that year. The audiences enjoyed them very much, from the tweets sent.

During the banter in Bloomsberg PA, David said he listened to Tonic in his bedroom when he was younger and practiced guitar to it. He wondered if it would creep the lead singer, Emerson, to hear that. He was stoked to have them on the bill.

I know Nashville has a rep for being a hotbed of singer/songwriters from all genres, (even if the TV show hasn’t gone there. yet.) but that re-connection, and reading the list of co-writers in your post emphasizes what a good move this has been for DC – so many creative opportunities!

And yeah – that  4-letter word  – and a pox on the Cone of Silence! Heh.

I know Nashville has a rep for being a hotbed of singer/songwriters from all genres, (even if the TV show hasn’t gone there. yet.)

Not precisely true. One of the principal characters (Avery) is at most alt-country and quite heavy on the alt. He performed an unreleased Elvis Costello song in one scene.

I suspect that gospel and hip-hop and various other genres will eventually move past their background/diagetic usage, too, although I don’t know if we’ll get as many recurring characters who perform them.

Also, the Cone of Silence pretty much never was. People simply twisted the Sheet of Expectations of Full Transparency into their preferred geometric form and then were shocked when they couldn’t read every surface.

  • Incipit

People simply twisted the Sheet of Expectations of Full Transparency

Heh. Ok, I love this, standtotheright – I love word dancing.

Oh, there was a Cone – starting in AI, when only once did we have notice of Davids song choice –  before performance day and the secret agents at rehearsal – because Collective Soul tweeted about “The World I Know”, and then the song was done in a different episode.

But we got used to it – now it’s more of a referential shorthand for David’s preference not to drop even the smallest fact until he’s sure…although he’s certainly not above teasing. It’s said w/affection. (Mostly. Sometimes with frustration mixed in. lol)

Yes, I read about that Elvis Costello song in one scene – so I checked it out. It was still far too country for me. I guess Alt Country is still country – and I know Nashville (the city, not the show) has more to offer. I hope they do move past it, as advertised. (by the show, not the city)

  • standtotheright

But he does drop facts. People just tend to discount them because they aren’t also associated with a full playbook of dates and times. He’s invariably popped up to mention writing sessions periodically.

And as for the Costello song, I don’t think most casual listeners would describe it as “too country” for them. (They might not like it for other reasons, but I don’t think that would be the first one vocalized.) Plenty of people in Nashville would in fact argue that alt country is not still country. I personally don’t care about the dividing lines. I just think it’s a very good song, and it was something different for the show thus far.

That surprises me in that Simon did not like Toddrick.  Then again, Toddrick has been proving what a talent he can be.  Some of his videos have been hilarious.

I have enjoyed the dance shows almost as much as the song competitions.  I really loved SYTYCD.
