ESPN is seriously hurting for programming if they are showing an intramural flag football game.

Looks like Todrick is gong to be on X-Factor this week. Hope it’s a permanent job.
@toddyrockstar Got a new job singing back up on X Factor. Now
trying to figure out ways to Shimmy with Demi and swindle a pic with

I think that some sports people are intrigued by Scotty trying to do it all–and his love of sports.  He’s already been interviewed by SportsCenter and was a guest on the Fantasy Football show.  Still, my guess is that they would only show highlights plus the interviews, maybe even on ESPN3…

D Cook was writing songs again today.

    Emerson Hart

    Great write today with @thedavidcook
    Fantastic singer.

    David Cook
    ?@thedavidcook

Had an absolute blast writing with @emersonhart. Great hang, as well. Double whammy.

Emerson Hart is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Tonic.

So far we know that David has collaborated with Cary Barlow, Devin Bronson, Blair Daly, Kevin Griffin, Emerson Hart, David Hodges, Daniel James, Josh Jenkins, Jaren Johnston, Josh Kelley, Zac Maloy, Steve Miller, and Andy Skib.  His “Code of Silence” might be weakening. ;)

    Very cool, wordnerdarchie!

DC tweeted something last week about writing and rehearsing – and Andy Skib was in Nashville for a writing week also, according to Zac Maloy.

Lotta people going around mumbling “S**N” under their breath like a mantra. *snerk*

  • girlygirltoo

I doubt it has anything to do with Scotty.  ESPN broadcasts weird events like this because they have so many channels that they need to fill up the schedule. They probably scheduled this long before they even knew what schools were playing.

Incipit, there’s that 4-letter word again. Lol!!!

The intramural game is just between teams on NCState campus…pretty hard to believe they’d just randomly televise an on-campus event without there being some draw…

Emerson Hart is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Tonic.

wordnerdarchie, after I read your post about the collaboration earlier, I kept thinking that name and the band Tonic was familiar…so I checked archives elsewhere. Turns out there was good reason – Tonic opened for David at a handful of shows on the Neverending Declaration Tour in ’09…notably the return engagement at the Borgata in AC, September 26th of that year. The audiences enjoyed them very much, from the tweets sent.

During the banter in Bloomsberg PA, David said he listened to Tonic in his bedroom when he was younger and practiced guitar to it. He wondered if it would creep the lead singer, Emerson, to hear that. He was stoked to have them on the bill.

I know Nashville has a rep for being a hotbed of singer/songwriters from all genres, (even if the TV show hasn’t gone there. yet.) but that re-connection, and reading the list of co-writers in your post emphasizes what a good move this has been for DC – so many creative opportunities!

And yeah – that  4-letter word  – and a pox on the Cone of Silence! Heh.

Not precisely true. One of the principal characters (Avery) is at most alt-country and quite heavy on the alt. He performed an unreleased Elvis Costello song in one scene.

I suspect that gospel and hip-hop and various other genres will eventually move past their background/diagetic usage, too, although I don’t know if we’ll get as many recurring characters who perform them.

Also, the Cone of Silence pretty much never was. People simply twisted the Sheet of Expectations of Full Transparency into their preferred geometric form and then were shocked when they couldn’t read every surface.

People simply twisted the Sheet of Expectations of Full Transparency

Heh. Ok, I love this, standtotheright – I love word dancing.

Oh, there was a Cone – starting in AI, when only once did we have notice of Davids song choice –  before performance day and the secret agents at rehearsal – because Collective Soul tweeted about “The World I Know”, and then the song was done in a different episode.

But we got used to it – now it’s more of a referential shorthand for David’s preference not to drop even the smallest fact until he’s sure…although he’s certainly not above teasing. It’s said w/affection. (Mostly. Sometimes with frustration mixed in. lol)

Yes, I read about that Elvis Costello song in one scene – so I checked it out. It was still far too country for me. I guess Alt Country is still country – and I know Nashville (the city, not the show) has more to offer. I hope they do move past it, as advertised. (by the show, not the city)

  • standtotheright

But he does drop facts. People just tend to discount them because they aren’t also associated with a full playbook of dates and times. He’s invariably popped up to mention writing sessions periodically.

And as for the Costello song, I don’t think most casual listeners would describe it as “too country” for them. (They might not like it for other reasons, but I don’t think that would be the first one vocalized.) Plenty of people in Nashville would in fact argue that alt country is not still country. I personally don’t care about the dividing lines. I just think it’s a very good song, and it was something different for the show thus far.

That surprises me in that Simon did not like Toddrick.  Then again, Toddrick has been proving what a talent he can be.  Some of his videos have been hilarious.

I have enjoyed the dance shows almost as much as the song competitions.  I really loved SYTYCD.
