The X Factor’s Drew Defends Her Dress: I Expected Some Not to Like It

It takes something pretty special to draw a negative word from Paula Abdul, but Drew Ryniewicz’s Wednesday night performance dress did just that.

Abdul praised the 14-year-old X Factor contestant’s rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You” before, in a rare moment, slamming her ensemble — a Punky Brewster-style mash-up of an evening gown that Ryniewicz wore with black feather earrings and rainbow hair. “That outfit took the seriousness away. Don’t take fashion advice from Simon anymore,” Abdul told her.

    Katharine + Christmas Music + Singing Live = AMAZINGNESS! Really happy about the incredible support she is ALREADY receiving from both NBC and Columbia, her new label.

  • Pam

    What a nice gig for Lauren.  Even though the NA can be difficult to sing, I’m sure Lauren will be fine.

  • Kylee

    Wow, I didn’t recognize Thia at first there! Good for her for doing something instead of just sitting there waiting for something to happen.

  • moonz

    Finally some good news on Thia. She looks good and happy. Nice to see her still involved with her music. May have to buy that CD just to hear her sing One Day.

    I understand that Drew Ryniewicz’s last name is hard to pronounce, and so something simpler for the American public to pronounce would be better for launching a singing career.  But personally I don’t care for just “Drew.”  Seems to me it would be better for her to just shorten and change up her last name, like “Drew Ryne” or something in that vein.

    I agree nice spot for exsposure. Lauren did a great job singing the NA this summer at the Red Sox game. Nothing fancy simple and powerful as you might expect from her.

    Not surprised Cook’s leaving to go to Fuller’s company. Just surprised it didn’t happen (or wasn’t announced) months ago

    Not many Idols left at 19M. Kris may be the only one left (A) has a record deal and/or  (B) isn’t co-managed by another company

    Not many Idols left at 19M. Kris may be the only one left (A) has a record deal and/or  (B) isn’t co-managed by another company

    Based on the details that the NY Times printed about the season 8 contract, Kris has a few more months left on his contract with 19M.  i wish they would let him out of it, so that he can go to a firm that will help promote him well in advance of his second album coming out.  I know that some fans are crazy about Lizzie, but I don’t think that she has the reach or experience that he needs.  In many ways she/19M manages him like a fan would, or like he doesn’t have a major label contract.  Booking him to internet radio shows that nobody listens to, or letting him get interviewed by people who aren’t really journalists wouldn’t be a big problem, if he was getting more high profile exposure.

    Or, she could use her middle name like Lauren (Alaina).  Her last name is something “unglamorous” so she auditioned without it.

  • Nele621

    Anyone having trouble seeing comments in Cook’s thread? There are 16 posted, but it’s all blank.

  • Pam

    Yep.  I can’t even see the comment I made there.  It looks like it’s a feed update glitch or something.

  • Anonymous

    The feed is doing something screwy in that thread, for sure.

    If the tweets are right, sounds like Irvin Mayfield Jr. has invited Haley Reinhart to do Carnegie Hall with him next October:

    @IrvinMayfieldJr Irvin Mayfield
    @HaleyReinhart I think you should do Carnegie hall with me next oct. What do you think?

    @HaleyReinhart Haley Reinhart
    @IrvinMayfieldJr I think that’d be pretty awesome!

    WOW LAUREN!! That’s a HUGE gig! Good for her….Thanksgiving Day football has a massive audience.

    As for David: Can anyone share exactly what 19E does for its clients? It seems the recording labels do most of the promoting and occasionally I see tweets from 19E about stuff that’s already old news. I don’t know the industry at all so am curious what their job actually is. It’s even more ominous that so many artists are packing their bags and going elsewhere….I’d love to know why.

    I predict that girl is going to go places…..big places. It may take a little while but she’ll get there.

    I don’t think Lauren will have any difficulty with the anthem or anything else.  :)

  • Cal

    I’m so happy for Lauren to be getting this gig :) She already slayed the anthem once and I’m confident she will do it again!
