Maybe they are focused more on album sales than single sales, and like you said, they are waiting closer to the album sales to push the single. I don’t think Adam’s career is over due to Itunes’ ¦.. I mean, I expect that type of prediction from VFTW but thats about it. lol

having read all the idol veterans in a few blogs, yes.. RCA’s always been focused on album sales rather than single sales. While Jive’s always focusing on single sales more..

RCA has said that they are not pushing FYE on radio until next week (reported in HHD today) ‘” looked like they are trying to have the single peak when the album released on 11/23/09 ‘” no before.

How are you defining “peak”? Peak in single sales? Ranking? Number of units moved? I’m not sure having one week of 100K single sales is going to make the difference in the long run.

If you mean radio, what do you mean? Radio has a cumulative effect. It generally takes re-hearing the song several times to get people to want to buy it. Plus, even if it has an epic week next week, that’s only a spincrease of about 1200 and that’s a pretty low place to peak on the pop chart. One would hope that it keeps going up (plus it would be rare to suddenly gain 1200 spins one week and that to be your peak position on the chart…ie you start falling off from there). Radio doesn’t turn on a dime.

LLWD has 1125 spins in Pop, but only 1015 spins on the published charts. Some stations are not counted on the published charts (Mediabase cannot monitor all stations, so it creates a basket of representative stations for the published charts). 110 of the spins are on stations that do not make up part of the published charts.

Currently, FYE has 108 spins in pop and 102 spins in HAC (and 1 spin in Active Rock and 5 spins on Rhythmic). If we assume that you need about 1100 raw spins per week to chart in Pop and FYE continues at it’s current spincrease (I think it will pick up next week with more adds), it will take 10 more weeks to reach Top 40 (or around January 15th).

I believe you are mixing the numbers there. Those 1015 LLWD needed to enter top 40 were for the week and on the pop format, the around 300 spins FYE has now are total spins for every format. What counts for a song to enter the top 40 are the weekly spins in that format.
FYE has 216 spins total for the week, 108 on pop (900 to go to get to those 1000). It added 10 more spins to its weekly total yesterday, 6 of them on pop. With the current pace (10-20 per day) it would need a lot more than 2 weeks. But next week, with more and new adds, the song should start getting more daily spins.

Seems the spin data has been updated. This means (I think) that FYE got 43 spins since yesterday. I think the numbers look good.

Looking at the numbers I don’t think RCA’s strategy is bad. The single might even pick up more spins and end up in top40 before 2 weeks and that wont hurt.

Second, Michael Jackson was in the biz for 40 years..and died a well publicized and tragic death. Check back with me in 40 years and we will see if a newcomer from today can match some of his numbers.

You honestly think a current artist is good enough and appeals to enough people to sell over 100 million records for one album??? Someone will undoubtedly outsell MJ one day because there is always someone out there better than you, but I think it’ll take more than 40 years and the music industry will have to change. Its not just about the economy, its also about the lack of originality. Every time someone original comes around they get panned for not being “mainstream” enough. We have to get rid of that mentality in my judgment before we will accept another MJ.

FYE has been for sale for 4 days ‘” and we actually have no idea what the sales look like. So it seems a bit early to say ‘slow and disappointing.’  I recommend waiting until there is a week of real promotion before coming to any conclusions.

I completely agree. I don’t understand the “gloom” predictions when it hasn’t even been a full week yet. Plus, a lot of sales went through the AO website. I know I pre-ordered the deluxe album myself and got the single download. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Also got yelled at for cracking up at 4:30 a.m. over Kirsten’s Top 14 list. Twas priceless (which is always more than $14.00). I’m really unconcerned with tattoos. I’m sure there’s a meaning to the 14 for David. I’m not sure we’ll ever know based on the fact that we’ve spoon fed him so many media bites that may or may not be juicier.

I have a daughter who started piercing herself at age 13. By age 18, she has no recognizable scars from her earlier forays, but she’s still not tattooed. She absolutely recognizes the forgiveness of a piercing but that a tattoo lives forever, even after it’s gone. She’s just not ready to make that commitment, but I think she will someday. She does understand, however, that for her field, her tattoos could never be in the forefront. She knows that the piercings she’s had are so very much easier to go away. Heh, she told me that one of her friends takes the gauges out of his ears for going to work and takes that big old hole and wraps it around the entirety of his ear. That made me lol so hard. I’ve heard some people say that they get sleeves and such so that they could never get a 9 to 5 job. I don’t know how relevant it is anymore, but I do give them credit for their commitment.

I find Carly’s Geisha sleeve breathtakingly beautiful. I’m also unconcerned with people inking themselves (though I, too, tend not to want to see DC’s eyeball tattoo–creepy). I’m just a bit unconcerned about this stuff. It wasn’t the thing when I was their age…in fact it may have been a bad thing. It’s different now. Hell my 59 year old sister has 3 tattoos that she’s gotten since age 50. She’s working on what the 4th will be.We got a tweet from David saying surprises haven’t been unveiled yet. I’m hoping we will get one of said surprises Nov. 18 or 19 (the two final shows I’m attending).I’m also glad he doesn’t find a new tattoo to be a surprise for his fans. Just saying.
