Jennifer Lopez Smiles, Shines In Peru (PHOTO)

Jennifer Lopez continued globetrotting this weekend and we think the Peruvian sunshine definitely agrees with her.

The singer was spotted in Lima, Peru, filming scenes for her upcoming talent show, “Q’Viva: The Chosen,” Saturday wearing a shining yellow dress and a big smile on her face.

Lopez has been jetsetting around the world with rumored boyfriend and backup dancer Casper Smart, hitting up Hawaii over Thanksgiving with her twins before flying to Morocco to perform at the launch of the Morocco Mall in Casablanca.

J.R. Martinez Wins Unsung Hero Award

Just because he won ABC’s Dancing with the Stars two weeks ago doesn’t mean injured Iraq war veteran J.R. Martinez can’t put on his dancing shoes to help other disabled vets.

Martinez, 28, was guest of honor at Lois Pope’s the Lady in Red Ball at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club Friday night in Palm Beach, where he was presented with the Unsung Hero Award for “overcoming devastating injuries to make a full life for himself and in so doing bring the plight of America’s three million living disabled veterans into our country’s consciousness.”

Tim Halperin (season 10 top 24) tweeted out his XMAS single. It’s pretty–I like it very much. I guess it’s kind of a pop type holiday song and very enjoyable. I am going to put in on the holiday cd I make every year along with BICO.

It is so nice to see David A. getting so much wonderful feedback from his tour.  I am happy to see so many tweets from guys who have been blown away by David.  I guess there are still people out there who like to hear someone who can actually sing.  As far as I’m concerned there are too many “singers” out there making a bunch of money who can barely carry a tune.

  • Anonymous

Very pretty – liked it very much.  Thanks!

If anyone’s interested – on the Beg for Money album there’s a song called “Just the Way It Is.”  But if you search for that title on youtube and link to the one uploaded by ucanthankmelater1, the old demo for the song comes up.  It’s quite lovely, and Adam sings it beautifully.

  • Anonymous

How awesome for David A to also use his tour to promote Child Fund in his tour…saw some tweets of fans to “adopted” a child during a stop.  His voice is just getting stronger and stronger…truly in it for the long haul.  Also refreshing to hear Christmas songs without Shawty or crotch grabbing…LOL  :)   Little Drummer boy is awesome, but so are all the others…This Christmas..my oh my!

  • http://twitter.com/loveroftalent annie omelon

I love that song so much…I have playing it over and over.  It is my favourite song at the moment.  Glad you brought it up.

  • jaylee

I’m not interested in anything from Betray for money :(

  • djafan

Great feedback all around from males and females alike, his vocals have blown them away.  Some seeing David A. for the first time others getting reacquainted and of course the diehards like me following him since AI.

David A’s performances have even blown me away.  Who’d a thought we’d see David wailing playing the drums, dancing swiveling those hips, his banter like sitting in ones living room hanging out. so comfortable in his own skin.  Singing songs like Climb Every Mountain, This Christmas (soulful, bluesy), All I Need Is A
Silent Night, and his My Kind Of Christmas salsaish upbeat song, all of them are beyond.

I’m anxiously waiting for the LA concert to see at all.  I’ll be doing VIP and he’s been singing a mashup of Good Place (my favorite from The Other Side Of Down) and Let It Be.

  • Anonymous

Here is David A. talking about the Child Fund and dedicating “Climb Every Mountain” to the kids.  David has certainly found his lower range.  I love it.

I watched those David A Christmas concert videos and maybe I came along too late and missed his season but I find it such an amateurish show and his voice cuts out on many of the low notes. It might be ok for a free mall show but not if you have to pay for it. Sorry. Somebody needs to say it.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PSHFTD4YV3QOE3INABJUXZSWMU hillstreetblooz

Nice cover of a King’s X tune, even though all the funky backbeat in the original was taken out for a more rockish sound. I confess I like the covers Cook sings in concert more than his original material. Can’t put a finger on just why, but I do. Looking forward to hearing more of his rock covers to see his spin on them. Maybe the next CD should be a covers album, just to see if it would get a better response from the public.

  • djafan

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and music is subjective, a matter of taste.  But even those that aren’t into David A’s music don’t deny his musicality and outstanding vocals.  And you happen to be in the minority :)

  • Anonymous

I agree. Its nice to continue to see David grow as a performer. Did you see last night’s Silent Night from Verona: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNoH8csRbv8&feature=youtu.be

That’s your prerogative and I respect that.  But I disagree.  How is Adam hurt by my listening?  Have I breached some protocol?  If so, I would appreciate your letting me know.  Thanks.

  • Anonymous

I appreciate your opinion and would like to offer mine. I was lucky enough to be at the NYC show at Irving Plaza — and I am not sure what video you hear his voice cutting out in but I assure you it didn’t cut out in person. And while you might not pay to see the show, there were a theater full of people who did — pretty damn happy people from the sound of the crowd and all the comments I heard after.

    Nice new interview with James

    http://www.seattlepi.com/lifestyle/blogcritics/article/Interview-James-Durbin-Discusses-His-Debut-2343160.php#page-3

He was suprised as well by the Revolver article:

“Originally, I thought that they were interviewing me, asking me about the “100 Greatest Living Rock Stars.” I never in my wildest dreams or imagination thought that they would be naming me as one of them. That’s just madness. That’s just craziness. When I got on the phone to interview with them about the “100 Greatest Living Rock Stars” alive today, I definitely wasn’t prepared for them to tell me that [I was] actually listed as one of them.”

  • Anonymous

Uh oh lol. I got moderated. Sorry, MJ, I wasn’t trying to start anything just wanted to offer my perspective on the concert. Its still pretty fresh in my mind so maybe I’m more passionate about it than I should be :)
Wish I could make it to more shows! If there’s one complaint I have about this tour its that its too compact & localized. I wish it was longer and was spread throughout the country instead of just the coasts. But since I did get to attend one show, I can’t complain too much.

  • ronaldmascot

I didn’t realize that Adam and Monte wrote all the songs on that new album.  I am going to check it out.  Tim Halperin’s Xmas song is great.

  • Anonymous

Revolver must be pretty hard up to name 100 Greatest Living Rock Stars as they included James Durbin.  A very minute fraction of people have ever heard of him, and if they don’t watch AI, they don’t have a clue as to who he is.

  • GS61

I’m sure someone held a gun to their head.
    * sigh*.

  • Anonymous

They did write them, but they’ve be overproduced to death on BFM (which people shouldn’t buy no matter what since it’s not endorsed by Adam). The old MySpace demos of the ones that are available are really great though and they’re still floating around the internet.

  • sagi

No, not a gun. But surely it was a paid advertisement! Sorry, but he hasn’t even got his feet wet yet. And it is true that besides the AI viewers he has just been introduced to the mainstream, i don’t think many in the rock audience would even know him or remotely include him as among the greatest rock stars alive! That covers quite a few years of history.

  • Anonymous

“100 Greatest Living Rock Stars” alive today, I definitely wasn’t prepared for them to tell me that [I was] actually listed as one of them.”

Certainly there is an April Fools somewhere in that story, right?  I know it’s a fan voted thing, and therefore at least an asterisk should be place beside his name.  Seriously though?  SMH!

  • Tess

Really…it was fan voted.  Hadn’t heard that before.

But I have been torturing my brain for come up with 100 LIVING rock stars.  I can think of a couple of dozen groups (at 4 men apiece) that would make my list…bad sadly quite a few of the individuals are already dead and that includes many, many of the solo artists I would consider.

  • Anonymous

    I know it’s a fan voted thing

It was a fan voted list? Does it say that somewhere? It does make more sense as Idol fanbases are great voters. I don’t think it lessens the achievement, though, b/c it obviously says he’s got fans who love and are willing to vote for him. And most importantly, it’s getting his name out to rock fans. That’s pretty cool any way you look at it.

  • Leandro Cardim da Silva

actually me (and other several people I know) knew him because it was on all rock sites that someone was playing metal on idol. he’s pretty much known but i do agree it’s difficult to name him one of the 100 greatest alive

  • Anonymous

OH it was fan voted, well that explains alot. AI contestants ALWAYS do well in fan voted stuff. hehe since alot of their fans are used to voting their fingers off every week for them

  • djafan

But I have been torturing my brain to come up with 100 LIVING rock stars.

I can’t think of nearly 100 who are still living either, let alone great ones.  But considering low glibly the word great is applied these days, maybe Revolver is including everybody they can think of in the genre who doesn’t get booed off the stage.  ;)

  • Anonymous

I misunderstood, having it not be fan voted certainly enlarges my incredulity.  There’s this guy that lives across the way from me, he’s got a guitar, maybe he’s on their list too?

  • Anonymous

I don’t have any idea if it was fan voted. Lol. I thought you’d found out. I’d never heard much about the magazine until the other day on here. I looked them up on wiki for a second, but the only thing I really discovered was that Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl has been on their cover.

  • Anonymous

LOL… well maybe you can find out if his name in it and then you can buy the magazine and get his signature. ;)

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Tess, honestly The first couple that came to my mind are dead.  Of course, I am not up-to-date on many of the current ones.  For me, the best music was made in the 1960s and 70s.   :o)

Maybe James WILL become one and they are looking to the future?  I do like him.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

It is so good to read how busy all of our Idol Alum are!  Jordin certainly gets around – she’s everywhere.  I do like David A’s music.  He is just so likeable!

Kellie reminds me a bit of Sheryl Crow in that photo.

I would put Kid Rock on that list.  Bruce Springsteen, maybe Joan Jett and Pat Benatar because they both made the music scene this year.  Oh well…I’ll go check out the list.

  • Susan

Yep… that’s how I figured James made the list.  Plenty of rock stars are dead. I consider myself a pop fan, but even I’ve seen a couple rock stars live who are now dead.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

I tried to find the list, and I did get the cover photo Of Revoover. Many I didn’t recognize.  I Googled and still couldn’t find their list.  The people I mentioned are on other list, but I didn’t see many girls in that photo.  Does anyone have an actual list of artists?  Of course, KISS would be there and Aerosmith.

    Any help here?

  • Anonymous

There’s a good number of rock bands still around today, they’re just not very mainstream. If Tumblr is anything to go by, someone (or all) from Tokio Hotel and Linkin Park made the list. I’m guessing bands like Muse, Arcade Fire, Black Veil Brides, 30 Seconds to Mars, and My Chemical Romance are all represented on the list as well.

None of these are quite up to legendary status (and most never will) like older rockers like Axl and Slash, but they’re the new generation’s “great,” I think.

  • Anonymous

Maybe James WILL become one and they are looking to the future?

I’d be willing to bet that this is the basic premise of the Revolver article says.  They probably think that he is a credible rock artist, and that he has the potential to become one of the best.

  • Trina

The editor of Revolver, Brandon Geist is a big James fan. IIRC he even talked about voting for him during AI. I think that pretty much sums up how he made the list.

  • GS61

How soon is Adam’s album coming out?
    Can’t be soon enough.

    *double sigh*

  • Anonymous

I’d never heard much about the magazine until the other day on here. I looked them up on wiki for a second

One of the things that it says on Wikipedia about the magazine is that they make an effort to cover new and up and coming acts, acts that don’t get mainstream exposure, and underground artists, which would explain why they would follow and cover James.

  • Anonymous

That’s cool to me to me too. I enjoy when people in the music critic circle watch and like people from Idol. Revolver also apparently covers up-and-comers a lot too so I think James being on that list is a lot about his potential. He did bring focus to rock a bit in general by being who he was on such a high profile show.

ETA: Or exactly what elliegrll said. Lol.

He did bring focus to rock a bit in general by being who he was on such a high profile show.

Does that mean Amanda Obermyer will be on the list too?

  • Anonymous

LOL.. maybe he looks like robot on XFactor because the producers keep on yelling on his ears.. LOL.. knowing how Paula & Nicole like taking so many times to talk. You saw how he’s always rushing the judges when they’re talking and Paula got mad at him LOL

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

I saw James Durbin early this morning on a repeat episode of EXTRA and thought he did his interview part very well. Everything was fine until they showed him singing LMB. I cringed. I don’t think these acoustic live performances shows him in a good light at all. As for the Revolver’s greatest live rock artists list, I don’t think anyone takes James being on that list seriously but whatever gets his name out there is good exposure. I think had he came out of the gate like Daughtry with the fastest selling Rock album in soundscan history he may have had lot to work with but his debut numbers tells another story. Other than Scotty he certainly has the most buzz coming off of Idol since Adam Lambert. He’s getting media coverage and buzz outside the usual suspects other than Lyndsey, Jim and Slezek. He has a lot of work ahead him but I think besides Scotty and maybe Lauren he may be the Idol since Lambert to get any real recognition.

  • Anonymous

Considering Amanda Obermyer didn’t even make the tour, I doubt anyone can compare the amount of rock focus she got versus James. I just think that’s a possible reason for him to be included on such a list considering how extremely new he is.

  • Anonymous

If fan voting brings inredulity, then Idol itself should pose major problems. That’s all fan voted, too.

  • ronaldmascot

I’m also not interested in Betray for Money but never heard of that song. I went and checked it out and I have to say it is a lovely song. It may be to MOR for Adam but it is certainly catnip for those who don’t like dancey Adam.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6SSf7atg3k

  • Tess

Yes…but there is a difference.  On Idol they are being voted on against their peers for the same prize.  A list of 100 Living Rock Stars mean that the voting is pitting time tested grammy winning multi-album selling generation inspiring rockers against a kid who hasn’t proven himself as having any of these qualities.  Even if the list is compiled by the editor of the magazine and is not fan voted its premise is still a bit mind-boggling.  Who compares an untested newbie to the “greats”.

Now, I haven’t bothered to read the list because I am not about to spend my hard earned cash on something so trivial, but I can’t even begin to imagine who else is included on the list if the bar is obviously set pretty low (and I’m not knocking James just his resume).

  • musicality

Ace Young is on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills at this very moment. Its’ a wee bit emabarassing for him. They hired him to sing and write a song for one of the housewives little girls B-day party. The kid looked about 5 or 6 yrs old. So Ace’s song is “everyday is a birthday to me” over and over again while holding an alcoholic drink in his hand at the kids party. One of the housewives started laughing at him off camera.

  • Anonymous

Just the way it is, is a great song and really deserved to have been recorded and produced by the best in the industry! not by scummy bottom feeders :)
This song shows Adam’s massive potential.

  • Anonymous

After having resigned myself to not hearing new music from Adam until January, I am having trouble wrapping my mind around us getting the single now within a couple of weeks! This change has to be tied to some new big performance opportunity right? Or could it be a result of the industry buzz that he got for the EMA performance? It just seems something shifted that sped things up. I am a bit overwhelmed, lol.

  • Anonymous

I listened to the song and it really is good. I agree this song has great potential with the right production, it sounds very rough and yet Adam’s vocals are still recognizable. Did he also co-write this one?

I dobut there’s any pitting rock stars against each other in this vote.  I may be wrong, but this doesn’t seem to set up like a March Madness basketball pool.  I’m sure there were certain parameters involved; there always is with this sort of thing.  But I don’t imagine anyone was trying to put James on the same level as say, Eddie Vedder or Dave Grohl.

These sort of lists are more about creating dialogue and getting people to buy magazines or visit certain websites.  I say in this case, mission accomplished.

Interesting interview with Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, who has written with a number of Idols including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and David Cook.  All three are mentioned here as he discusses the double-edged sword of launching a career off shows like Idol and XFactor. He talks quite a bit about Cook and the perception he fights about not paying his dues despite having been a struggling (but working) musician and songwriter for years before Idol.

The Idol stuff starts around 3:30 but the whole thing is interesting:

ladymadonna512, Thanks. That whole thing ‘was’ very interesting – especially the POV on the Idol Stigma from an artist whose career was built in reverse to David’s (or Kelly’s, or Carrie’s), since Raine had a label deal and opted to go Independant, and they came at it from the other side of the coin.

Also, Raine Maida makes an articulate champion, ya know?

I think that girlygirl2 posted that a friend of hers’ was going to a football game soon (I can’t remember which one), and was going to report about whether or not SU was played.

I think it may be regional thing or a choice per stadium/organization maybe?

I think that you’re right.  James apparently video’ed clips of himself wearing all of the NFL jerseys, so they probably are making those and SU available to all of the teams, and they are deciding whether or not to show the clips and play the song at a local level.

Because apparently James doesn’t have a publicist to do this sort of stuff for him.
