CARRIE’S NATION:

There are only a handful of artists who can release albums titled “Number Ones” or “1s” or some variation thereof, including Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, George Strait and Diana Ross & the Supremes. She’s not quite ready to follow suit, but she’s working on it: Carrie Underwood collects her seventh No. 1 as “Just a Dream” (19/Arista) advances 3-1 on Hot Country Songs.

“Just a Dream” is the fourth single from Underwood’s sophomore album, “Carnival Ride.” All four singles, including “So Small,” “All-American Girl” and “Last Name,” have achieved pole position. That makes Underwood the first solo female artist to pull four No. 1s from one album since Shania Twain did it in 1995-1996 with a quartet of tracks from “The Woman In Me.”

Tip Your Idol: David Cook

The newest American Idol has no clue how to make a cosmo. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s see à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s vodka, right?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ asks David Cook, scanning the dozen or so liquor bottles arrayed in front of him. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“And grapefruit juice? Or is that a sea breeze? Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not cranberry à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Stumped, he scratches his stubbled chin and looks up at the girl across the bar. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Sorry, sweetheart. Kellie Pickler Goes Deep

Kellie Pickler has a place among the most attractive people in contemporary country music, and when you throw her musical successes into the mix, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s difficult to picture her having issues with self-esteem.

Nevertheless, she has indeed had times when she struggled to appreciate her own worth, which provides a sincere depth to her current single.

“The first time people hear ‘Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t You Know Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re Beautiful,’ they always think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m singing about outer beauty,” Kellie told Fox News. “But its so much more deep than that.”

11/7: Carrie Underwoood

Singer Carrie Underwood tries to be modest about her success since winning American Idol in 2005, but there is no denying that she has the total package of talent, looks, attitude and songs needed to become a crossover superstar like Shania Twain.

Despite selling nearly 11 million albums in her short post-Idol career, Underwood makes a believable case that she is not obsessed with entering the orbit of Twain, who used sexy looks, sassy attitude and a slick country-pop sound to go global in the mid-’90s.

Carrie Underwood’s voice was in fine form at Nokia concert, but she’s still finding her emotional groove

Emotionally, she’s still more connected to upbeat numbers and has trouble dialing down the twinkle even when the lyrics dictate sorrow rather than sassiness. Early in the concert, she grinned all the way through “Wasted,” a heartbreaker about regret that Lee Ann Womack or Martina McBride would have used to twist your heart into knots.

Ms. Underwood certainly pleased the fashionistas in attendance, decked out in a sparkly top and stiletto boots, then a frothy periwinkle ball gown that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ poof! à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ turned into a sexy little mini, and finally a leather vest, peach camisole and skintight jeans.

I posted this in the SNL thread, but here it is:

David Cook is (supposedly) going to premiere his Light On Music Video à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹first-thing Monday morningà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢.
    http://www.davidcookofficial.com/news/stay-tuned-mondays-surprise

The webnerds didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mention what the surprise is, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s quite obvious..seeing that the accompanying picture is a behind-the-scenes pic of David shooting the LO video.

    LOL at the Blender article!

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

100 camels for dowry and you refused, Cookie?? LOL :laugh_tb:

  • Margaux

Cook would probably have to share those camels with 19E.
There’s undoubtedly something in that contract about dowries.

Ohh..figures. 19, can’t you let your talents marry in peace?? LOL

  • PokeSmot

    Warning…major rant follows…

I must say I’m a little unhappy with the Cookie this morning. It is EFFIN’ 8:30 on a Saturday morning and my ass should be asleep…but, NNNOOOO, here I sit waiting (impatiently) for the Walmart Soundcheck, when lo and behold what am I rewarded with? Why it’s a shitty little 30-second teaser telling my sleep-deprived ass, that no, nuh-uh, my cranky ass actually has to wait till the end of November to see and hear the bestest band in the world! Really…when you’ve obviously got the soundcheck footage on hand and in the can, and have promised me and raised all my hopes and expectations of witnessing new footage of the Cookies, you (Walmart and/or Cookie) now want to tell me that I have to wait till the fricken end of November!?!? WTF?!?!

Man, seriously, I’m off to pay a friendly visit to my nearest Walmart.

    Peace Out & Poke Smot

(Hey, this is actually a good idea right about now)

  • May

End of November? What the ^&!@#$%^???? Oh he better play at LEAST 3 songs on SNL.

  • Trina

It was noted right here a couple of days ago the Soundcheck is premiering on 11/15, not really a surprise it’s not there this morning. In fact it’s right out on front under the thread about David’s appearances.

  • s3rious

Wow, Carrie is doin’ really well! She’s got this undeniably fantastic voice and she’s so pretty.

Yup Dave’s Walmart soundcheck appearance will be on November 15. That was announced several days ago, I believe.

From an interview at Oklaholma magazine, David Cook mentioned he was fortunate to be able to talk to Carrie from time to time… asking for advice as to how to deal with the crazy life of being an American Idol.

“I talk to Carrie every now and then” he says. “Carrie’s been awesome in that she’s really been available to me for advice, just to try and navigate what is the absurd life of being the winner of American Idol”.

Best of luck to both of them, they’re both awesome!

  • t2

Carrie has 4 Number 1′s from Carnival Ride — well, there are a few more on that record too I think. Wow, 11 million records! Simon maybe not be able to spot “potential”, but he knows a pure-bred winner when he sees one.

  • umbrella

For some reason the idea of Carrie reassuring Cook over the phone makes me LOL.

I don’t know much about country music but it seems like the girl is doing amazing by any standarts. Good for her, awesome for the show.

  • s3rious

Simon maybe not be able to spot à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“potentialà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , but he knows a pure-bred winner when he sees one.

I agree. Simon mentioned in one of his Larry King live interviews that on a personal level, it’s David Cook’s music that he would listen to… and then David Cook won American idol. :D

  • smartcookie

David Cook has some quotes in an LA Times article about “Flyover Music.” I don’t think I agree with this theory (or subclassification) at all, since the band that seems to most exemplify the kind of music she’s talking about is Bon Jovi, and they’re not from the Midwest or anywhere remotely fly-over-able.

Oh well. Music critics will find new ways to label things, whether it makes any sense or not.

Carrie has 4 Number 1à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s from Carnival Ride à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ well, there are a few more on that record too I think.

Yeah, I agree. Like “Flat on the Floor.” It BETTER be the next single. That song just sounds like a hit to me. Doesn’t hurt that it’s my favorite song on the album either. :)

Is anybody following the X-Factor. Probably the best season of any reality show i have ever seen. unbelievable. It comes on saturdays, and this guy posts it pretty fast. American Idol needs to take notes on what Simon Cowell does with this show because its brilliant in my book. If you wanna watch the whole shows, THIS site has em up pretty fast. they are being posted now.
my favs are Laura, Rachyl, Diana, and Austin. Laura was my pick from day 1- Simon stood up for her and clapped (i think a first) last week when she sang God Bless The Child. Anyways, IM DonE!

ETA: Ok, that site kinda sucks, just due a search for X Factor on youtube by Date Added and you will see all the performances. Im in shock from who just got eliminated.

David Cook has some quotes in an LA Times article about à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Flyover Music.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Around these parts, we call it “butt rock”

David Cook lumped in with…a bunch of bands I hate! lol.

  • abbysee

    Around these parts, we call it à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“butt rockà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

OMG, LOL! Butt rock? Is that different from cock rock?

  • smartcookie

David Cook lumped in withà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦a bunch of bands I hate! lol.

Yeah, that’s kind of the way I feel, too. I don’t hate Maroon Five, but I’ve never been fond of Aerosmith or any of the others. I don’t know from butt rock or cock rock. The last classification like that that meant anything to me was hair bands, and I didn’t like them, either.

Mostly I dislike the entire “flyover” concept about as much as I dislike the “cougar” thing. In general, I mean, not as it applies to Cook. Well, I don’t like that, either, but I really resent the idea that only the coasts have any taste, or that you can generalize who we are if we don’t live in LA or NYC, as if everything from Saddlebrook to Butte is a monolith where everybody thinks and dresses and looks alike. Moooooo.

Just using my state as an example — Jennifer Hudson, Gretchen Wilson, Bo Diddley, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Muddy Waters, the band Chicago, Herbie Hancock, Smashing Pumpkins (or at least Billy Corgan), Chaka Khan, Dan Fogelberg and Kanye West are (or were) from Illinois. Is all of their music in the “fly-over” category? Or are their hometown folk not supposed to find them appealing because it’s not?

wow what a good article…very comprehensive!

  • frogcooke

That was an awesome article btw.

    here some quotes I liked:

    this was interesting.. lol
“The night of the finale, they’re like, ‘OK, you’re gonna be working with Jive.’ I was like, ‘Whoa.’

“His voice is out of this world, and he approaches his singing very professionally,” says Chasez. “Some people just jump into the studio raw, but he takes the time to warm up, sit down at the piano, run the scales. He takes it very seriously. When he goes into the studio to sing, that kid is business.”

“After touring, people’s vocals get trashed, but he sang for hours on end and he was still clean,” says Chasez. “It was stunning to hear how much abuse this kid’s voice can take. But because he’s so dedicated to doing it the right way, it always sounds great.”

    lol about rock mafia…
“At first I was like, they work with Miley Cyrus. Why would I wanna do stuff with Miley Cyrus’ people? Just because we’re both young?” he says. “I don’t wanna be in that category. She’s really talented, but that’s not my kind of thing.”
