Queen Latifah Isn’t Choosing Team Nicki Or Mariah, But Says ‘You Gotta Respect Your Elders’ – Everyone’s had an opinion on whether they’re #teamNicki or #teamMinaj including Mariah’s hubby and Nicki’s hairstylist. Queen Latifah stopped by Anderson Cooper to promote her role in the all-black version of Steel Magnolias. Her view on the whole fiasco between the two divas? “I would definitely not take sides in ignorance, but that’s really not about them. At the end of the day they are both blessed to be in the position that they are. It’s about giving a leg up to the new people who want to be a Nicki or be a Mariah,” the rapper turned actress turned mogul said. Although she wouldn’t take sides she did make it clear that a legend is to be respected. “But Mariah? C’mon now. We’re talking about a hundred million right there. You gotta respect your elders to a point. That’s a grand diva, but I love Nicki too.” The Queen has spoken. – Read more at VH1

The double life of country star Scotty McCreery – NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — As it turns out, Scotty McCreery can have it all. The platinum-selling teen and former “American Idol” champ began his freshman year at North Carolina State University recently and he’s managed to work out a schedule that allows him to balance his college education with his country music education. “I made a 98 on my first math test,” McCreery said. “I was pumped about that because math is not one of my best things.” It’s not the first test McCreery has passed on his quick rise to fame, first winning Season 10 of “Idol,” then becoming the youngest male to enter the Billboard 200 at No. 1. While the siren call of celebrity has had a strong pull, McCreery has said all along he also wants to maintain the normal life he’d been planning before he was swept away by “Idol.” – Read more at Yahoo.com

Casey Abrams – An American Idol – During his stint on “Idol,” Abrams was rushed to the hospital quite suddenly, citing severe stomach pains. Abrams suffers from ulcerative colitis, a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) also known as Crohn’s disease that occasionally requires blood transfusions. Due to the flare up, Abrams was absent for the Top 13 results show, though the judges chose to save him. “I think anyone can tell a story,” said Abrams, who is a registered IBD Icon, a self-styled awareness campaign that brings attention to any of the 1.4 million Americans who battle the affliction. “I’m just using my art form to tell a story, one that nobody really talks about. – Read more at Montgomery Media

PHOTOS: Jennifer Hudson & Stevie Wonder Perform At Obama LA Fundraiser – The 31-year-old singer took to the stage at iconic Nokia Theatre with the legend Stevie Wonder to mark 30 days to the Obama and Romney election showdown. Wearing a figure-hugging but sophisticated blue knee length dress, the ‘Spotlight’ songstress belted out a few of her hits on the stage. Other performances at the Obama fundraiser was Katy Perry, Earth, Wind & Fire, Jon Bon Jovi with special appearances from ‘The Descendants’ actor George Cloony and President Barack Obama himself. One Direction fanfiction story to become book – 16-year-old U.K. teen Emily Baker is the envy of not only One Direction fans, but wannabe authors everywhere. She has just inked a deal with Penguin to publish her fanfiction story about a teen who is in an intense romantic love triangle with two of the boys from One Direction. Much like how 50 Shades of Grey was originally a Twilight fanfiction story called “Master of the Universe,” Baker’s original story (which, since this announcement, has been scrubbed from the Internet) will have the names changed so there isn’t copyright infringement, and has been worked into a more general story about an everyday teenage girl that gets involved with members of a popular boy band. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly

I don’t think QL is using ‘Elder ‘ In the sense of ‘Old’ but more in the way of person with a lot of experience and recognition because her work ? …..guess she’s right ?

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Yeah, it seems clear in context the QL is referring to Carey’s long and illustrious music career as a reason to look up to her.

I hope Lythgoe and others associated with Idol don’t start a new round of TMZ chats on “QL called Mariah old!” A person should be able to use figurative language without being trampled by rampaging Drama Llamas.

Thanks for the audio from the radio station stream, El oh El, very, very nice to have.

I love it! They both did so well – and it was sweet, the compliments to Haley – and the “Oh he ain’t finished, he ain’t finished yet, ya’ll – Watch this!” when Casey was doing that extended bit on the upright bass.

And the audience “got” what they were doing, and appreciated their skills, and their musicality.

They both must have been floating tonight!

Lots of tweets and photos from Kris’ concert at #AfterDark. He basically performed what would be a regular set for him, songs off his 2 albums, his new (untitled) song that he debuted last week and a couple of covers. It sounds like the crowd loved him. At one point, he pulled a bunch of people from the cudience to come up on stage and dance with him.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we are going to get many (if any) videos from this.

Great news for Cook fans in Singapore – he’s heading back to Asia.

Thanks, wordnerdarchie. A quick investigation of that ION Orchard on Google Images revealed - the complex looks like a Science Fiction CityScape!

This isn’t a mall, small ‘m’ – it’s an Empire….the center of gravity for Singapore’s commercial area, on Orchard Road. They had Carrie Underwood fly out for a 45 minute gig for their Grand Opening in 2009 (and the fans also only had two weeks notice. Heh). Now they are throwing a Third Anniversary Partay – and DC is going to get plenty of exposure and new ears on October 25th…

But it’s a good thing he gains a day crossing back over the International Date Line – he’s due in FL for the Chris Evert Event  on October 27 and 28th. Even if he skips the festivities on Friday,  like last year – that’s gonna be one jet-lagged set of Tennis Games! #redbull?

Is there any video on Haley’s performance tonight?  Or maybe even just audio?

  • Incipit

Yes to some really clear audio, Venus Hooper – From the radio stream, El oh El posted “Blues in the Night”, and that youtube page also leads right to “God Bless the Child” and “Hit the Road Jack”.

Just scroll down, you’ll see it. And maybe there will be videos later – fingers crossed.

MJ, is that associated with NICK TV?  Is that the one where the children will be interviewing the Presidential candidates, only one is showing up for the show?  Or does this have to do with music?

  • Venus Hooper

Thank you, found that post right after I asked, made me feel like a dummy not scrolling all the way through the replies.  Thank you as well to El oh El for the link, downloaded it and have listened several times already.  Haley has a natural gift and such an awesome voice and delivery!

  • wordnerdarchie

It looks like Cook fans were correct last weekend in speculating that DC flew to the west coast for a private gig (in Napa Valley).  Someone posted a grainy pic of herself with him there.  #CookConeofSilence

  • fuzzywuzzy

“I made a 98 on my first math test,” McCreery said. “I was pumped about that because math is not one of my best things.”

That made me smile. Very cool that Scotty is placing a priority on his education and appears to be managing a balanced life really well.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Nuts! I missed the live broadcast and would have loved to have seen Haley perform. Does anyone know if there’s a chance that the radio station will post the video of the concert?

  • Xentusk

Not a blow by blow of the show…My memory and knowledge of Jazz is too little for that, so I posted my ‘adventure’ and fortune at THE best and culture filled event I ever attended at Haleyfans.com

    http://haleyfans.com/showthread.php?tid=1359

Story telling not fact filled so you are pre warned ;)

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Irvin gave Haley a glowing introduction before they performed this number “Blues In The Night”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
God Bless the Child and Hit The Road Jack are on that channel also”

Cool! Thanks so much for posting that link, as I couldn’t find it on youtube.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Yeah, it seems clear in context the QL is referring to Carey’s long and illustrious music career as a reason to look up to her.”

I agree. Also, in context, QL was complimentary to both Mariah and Nicki, so there was nothing negative or “catty” in the tone of her remarks on the incident.

As for Nigel, I’m looking to see what TMZ posts from now on to see if he’s changed his attitude about PR for the show.

  • standtotheright

Thanks for posting these. I’m an audio quality snob and that is a very good live recording for being uploaded so quickly.

Sounds like everyone at the show had a good time.

  • http://twitter.com/Free_in_march El oh El

Hey no problem . Here’s a few photos.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Yay, MJ! I hope you get to finally interview Kris Allen, and of course all the other fantastic musicians who will be there. So far it’s a fantastic lineup and Andy says there should be more added. (Can we hope for The Boss?)

    Please get video!

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

No, it’s not that. This is an organization that brings music education to schools. This is their 10th anniversary and they are honoring Steven Van Zandt.

Xentusk, I just read your report of the Carnegie Hall Adventure – you are indeed a good storyteller! I’m glad you took the time to write about your experiences before the detail was lost. Must have been an amazing night for Haley, Casey, and their families.

Thanks for the link, and congrats on being able to attend…The NOJO had my complete attention from the first bars of Charley Parker’s version of “Autumn in New York” (perfect choice) to the last note.

  • Venus Hooper

    I found some video here:

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/idol-worship/american-idol-alums-haley-reinhart-377533

For me and my likes on sound quality not that great but I found some video on “Hit the road jack”!  I liked it just to see, the excitement of it all you could say.

So Haley has made history this year for an Idol???  Lalapoozo or however you spell it, then this gig last night at “Carnegie Hall”, which is an honor in music, my next hope, eheheheheh………..  “The Kennedy Honors” is December 26th this year, I can hope and cross my fingers she is invited to sing a tune or two there, they are honoring a band I literally grew up on in high school and seen second row center at The L.A. Forum when they did “Physcal Grattifi” album, “Led Zeppelin”!  Let’s keep our fingers crossed.  For a third placer this girl is going places in the history of music, she is that gifted and talked about!

  • Venus Hooper

Went to the site you listed, it has EVERYTHING to do with Idol as a post, two (2) past Idols will be appearing, one a past winner!

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

I’m confused by your comment. When did I say that Little Kids Rock has nothing to do with Idol? I said it had nothing to do with Nickleodeon’s Rock the Vote.
