I see Idol fandom as politics for…people who don’t care much about politics.(Because for those who do, like me, the campaign has been too fascinating. I don’t care much about Idol right now.)

Those deeply entrenched in the Idol bubble need to read Jlyn’s posts. She adds some much needed perspective from the outside. She makes a great point, which is that your average record buyer can barely remember either David after 5 months.

They are selling to different audiences, I think, and so why shouldn’t a record company (if they WERE the ones to put it out there) capatilize on someone winning a competition.

As Jlyn said, people are forgetful. It’s a fact of life. So maybe this email will reach those who forgot all about AI and help some folks out there to enjoy music they may have otherwise missed.

You know reading these types of threads reminds me of my husband watching the superbowl. He is a lifelong Oakland Raiders fan, as such he hates the Patriots. (Sorry MJ.) When the Pats lost he was ecstatic. I told him that I thought he was happier with the Patriots going to the Superbowl and losing than he would have been if Oakland been there and won. He laughed and admitted I was probably right. Sometimes I think AI fandom is football for chicks.

From that email I’d think the sole purpose of Cook’s album is to prove viewers “made the right choice.” What about his music? Outselling the runner up should be a given for winners. It shouldn’t be so hard, and so desperate to do. Cook should distance himself from this email one way or another if he wants his music being taken seriously. The competition ended long ago. Just move on already, RCA. Remember Daughtry wasn’t “viewer’s choice” at all?
