Adam Lambert And Allison Iraheta Album Titles Revealed

The Idoloonies have done it again! Just a week after Kris Allen fans uncovered his album cover art on the Barnes & Noble Web site, a group of die-hard Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta fans found album titles for each of their forthcoming releases posted on Amazon.com.

A rep for 19 Entertainment confirmed to MTV News that Adam Lambert’s major label debut is called For Your Entertainment and Allison Iraheta’s release is named Just Like You.

Both album names appear to play into each artist’s “Idol” persona ‘” Lambert, the ultimate showman and Iraheta, the irresistibly relatable teenage girl. No word yet as to whether their albums will feature songs with those titles.

Taylor Hicks And Cast Of ‘Grease’ Combine To Make Fun Show

DURHAM – With American Idol winner Taylor Hicks cast as the Teen Angel in the 1950′s-themed musical “Grease,” the whole show is a fun and entertaining two hours that leaves you wanting more.

Of course, most people are familiar with the storyline behind “Grease”, as it was made popular in the iconic movie by the same name with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

The “Grease” musical is now on tour across the nation and the production stopped in Durham earlier this month and sold out several shows at the new Durham Performing Arts Center in the downtown area. The brand new building is a beautiful addition that is next to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and other renovated areas of the city.

Without any disasters, someone who did fine will go home

There are still 10 couples left on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ but Tom Bergeron promised at the beginning that we are, indeed, halfway through the season with Monday’s Argentine tango and paso doble performances.

First up with the paso doble were Natalie Coughlin and Alec Mazo, who have been strong in recent weeks. Natalie’s relatively serene personality didn’t make her a natural bullfighting type, so Alec worked hard to get her passionate face in shape. Natalie had another strong showing, but she was indeed more skilled than she was fiery. While the dance to ‘American Woman’ wasn’t entirely convincing to the judges, they continued to praise her technique.

Louie Vito Talks About Chemistry with Chelsie Hightower

Another Monday, which means another blog about Dancing With The Stars from me.

I wanted to start this week’s blog off by saying THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me last week. It definitely wasn’t my best dance but I worked hard and did it the best I could. It was a hard dance to do because it is a dance that is suppose to showcase the woman and one where the guy leads her around the entire dance. Let me tell you, although it is called a 2-step, it’s a lot harder than it sounds.

Enough of that, let’s move on to this week. I was ready from day one to step it up and make sure this was one of my better dances. The only thing is, I had to learn three dances this week. The Argentine tango, the hustle (group dance) and a knockout dance, which will be used next week if you are in the bottom two. I tried to put most of my effort and focus on the Argentine tango since the hustle is not judged and I felt like I needed to give you, the viewers, a better dance after last week.

The Kiss 108 Jingle Ball Lineup l is kind of meh. Okay, very meh. Will not be attending.

Yay for Kelly and Carrie! I like Cowboy Casanova and I *love* Already Gone, one of my top 3 songs on Kelly’s album.

I adore helsie Hightower. She and Mark were my favorite SYTYCD contestants (Marksie) on S4. I just cannot bring myself to watch DWTS. I tried to watch last night, but it’s too corny for my tastes. I decided to post on here instead. Heh.

I don’t know if I can flail about Adam in this thread… ;)

  • FifthHouseSun

So Adam’s soot-covered in the 2012 movie song vid? Hope there are some “before” shots with better hair, too. Well, at least there’s very good hair in the “Cover Man” video on Details.com

The bikini shot on Details home page so much better illustrates their headline than the ones they used. And in the video are all kinds of set-ups left unseen in mag. But, usually, in power tree of who gets to, literally, call the shots, the best ones are often the ones not chosen. (Like all those Rolling Stone shots we never saw.)

(Posted here guessing that combo 2012/Details posts go in headlines thread?)

Maybe Details has plans to add new pics as the month continues. And they get all those emails in their database from the photo shoot contest. The contest doesn’t seem to be on their site yet.

FHS – thanks for posting this here.

“Well, at least there’s very good hair in the ‘Cover Man’ video on Details.com”

That video and all this Adam news makes getting anything else done quite challenging.

Pretty cool to see three stories about Adam in the Headlines thread. He’s a news making machine right now. Time for Miracles getting good reviews and doing so well on the charts doesn’t hurt either.

And of course they need to release the Time for Miracles video. As soon as the Europeans started selling TfM on their iTunes, the American iTunes needed to get it together and sell it as well, or we would have looked like idiots. The next logical step is to release the video. I don’t think it’s going to stop anyone from going to the MJ movie who wants to see Adam on the big screen. If anything, all this releasing of the music and video just generates more interest and curiosity.

It’s good to be an Adam fan. I’m sure enjoying myself, that’s for damn sure.

I am glad to see that too. I think that it is a good thing that he attended that country event. I hope that going to that event gave him a chance to interact and make connections with different country artists in the industry.

I hope that he continues to go to more country music events. I think that if he keeps this up it could definitely be beneficial to his music career.

I can see them starting Kris out with college dates, similar to David, but I can’t imagine Kris sustaining a “neverending tour” mostly because that would play havoc on a marriage. I would guess that Kris would want a bit more home time than Cook’s band of gypsy nomads. In fact, I often wonder how poor Mrs. Kyle Peek deals with it.

Well, Kris did say in a recent interview that he thinks his tour will be starting in February and end “never”. That suggests that they might be planning a David Cook-like tour for him. I think its a mistake to include TFM on AL album; its not really him and not the greatest song IMO. But many would disagree with me, I’m sure. I think his first real single will be much better.

Interesting departure from the tradition of just self titling Idol’s new albums (Adam and Allison)- another attempt by 19 to get away from its Idol image, which it certainly seems to be doing recently; at least re Adam?

Also happy to see Danny out hobnobbing with the Nashville elite, will be good for his career. But we need pictures. So far, only pics of Buckey on line; haven’t seen Kelly or Danny in pics yet.

David’s tour wasn’t intended to be an never ending tour though. It kept extending and going on and on and on with new dates added because it had a strong sellout rate. With Kris I would hope before they plan on a tour being very extensive they would at least try and gauge how he does out of the gate? Unless they book very small clubs as well as college dates. It’s impossible to know so far ahead how anyone will sell when it comes to ticket sales. I do think the college tour thing is a good start for him though.

LVanna: For Your Entertainment sounds sooo-Adam but I would have rather had For Your Pleasure or just simply ‘Adam’ ’ ¦’ ¦’ ¦.but it’s o.k.

“For Your Pleasure” is already an album title — and many glam rock fans believe that “For Your Entertainment” is Adam’s homage to the great Roxy Music album “For Your Pleasure”. It was a really significant art rock album and on RS greatest album list, Blenders greatest list, etc.

It is also a famous album cover — and the title was not on the face of the album:

It’s great that Kris is performing at the Miami game — even more so because I’m gong to that game! (Go Saints!)

But why couldn’t Adam sing at an NFLgame? He sang the SSB at Miramar Air Station (a major US military installation) — and the military wouldn’t even let Adam enlist.

I think its a mistake to include TFM on AL album

On so many levels. Not the least of which is sales. No reason for Sony to cannibalize their own sales. Half the reason to buy the 2012 soundtrack is TFM. (With possible extended version…? Or extra something?) This could be misinformation. Really can’t be accurate.

‘For Your Pleasure’ is already an album title ‘” and many glam rock fans believe that ‘For Your Entertainment’ is Adam’s homage to the great Roxy Music album ‘For Your Pleasure

    That’s interesting, Q3.

Also, saw a tweet (from @terra_zephead) mentioning international translations. Of course! How asleep was I? Too focused on: gee, FYE is not just boring, but also a chain store. And not remembering Global Biz 101. FYE is a global launch. They have to have a title that translates. And will make sense and not insult in every language. Made me not embrace, but at least feel better about, For Your Entertainment.

Having suffered through many a back-translation on international efforts, can understand how it’s almost impossible to have a global title, headline, name, product affiliated anything that doesn’t sound bland in English.

  • Tess

Somebody in Kris’ camp needs to make a you-tube and introduce everyone to the band. Kris, like Cook and Daughtry, will have an integral association with his band and it would be nice for the fans to get to know them right out of the gate. Besides, that would be more nice hype for Kris.

  • richie10

Adam singing the anthem in front of that military audience was pretty awkward though, in my opinion. I’m sure it was hard for him to decide how to perform that song, which isn’t really in the style of music he’s aiming for. Danny and Kris both seemed much more comfortable and natural in their performances of the SSB on the hometown visits.
I agree, it would be odd to see Adam performing at sports events, except maybe something like a half-time show with all the backup, lighting, etc.
Otherwise, daytime/outdoors don’t seem like the best environment for what he wants to do. Easier for Kris with his low-key style and the plaid shirts to fit into that. I had the same impression when Adam was on GMA with Kris and David Cook. An early morning, outdoors performance was a more natural situation for the other two than for Adam.
If Adam sees himself as a male lady Gaga, don’t expect Lady Gaga performs at many military bases or sports events either. :)

Somebody in Kris’ camp needs to make a you-tube and introduce everyone to the band.

    At the very least, Tess.

Saw that tweet from Kris about his band and thought, band? Web site bios, little vids of them all interacting. Big, big opportunity.

Maybe they think it’s taking away from The Star? But no one cares about the band but the fanbase. And this just bonds them more. Play to the fanbase, Kris. They’re going to Google search this stuff anyway. And tweet your band members.

Or maybe Kris isn’t going to have his own permanent band. Maybe this is just his good friends plus some guys for now.

  • Trina

How ironic considering Ryan was one of the people trying to force him to get on Twitter LOL

Miss Chaos: See this is why Adam didnt win AI, can you just see him singing at football games, Whereas it fits perfectly for Kris, hes a huge sports fan and gets this nice gigs, so its all good. Adams get the nekid womes, and Kris gets the football players, to sing to of course,

Happy for Kris getting to sing in a NFL game.

Disagree that Adam can’t sing at football games. Prince performed during Super Bowl’s halftime show in 07, and let’s not forget the notorious Justin Timberlake & Janet Jackson Super Bowl performance. Not saying Adam is as big as them, but his style of performance does fit in some football games, baseball not so much.

Yes! The rumor turned out to be true. Thanks for the news dv.

  • wellhesback

For the record, I love David Cook…and his band…and Ryan Star.

To add something a little more relevant ‘“ on starting a band post-Idol. I will be interested to see what Kris and Allison come up with. (Adam’s more of a solo performer, I guess). It was cool to see Cookie’s whole band appear at the CD debut, on Saturday Night Live, and on the music video. Once fans got the guys’ names we were able to view youtubes of Andy and Neal and hear their previous work.
And as another aside, I hope DC’s publicist gets something new out there soon. If I do a search on him, that ‘dumped girlfriend’ story still keeps appearing.

what!!! where have i been??? where are all these videos….

  • rockvixen

So Adam is a vampire is what you are suggesting. :D

I didn’t find Adam’s SSB performance to be awkward. He gave his own interpretation of it and blew me away with his vocals. I also thought he gave the best SSB performance out of the top3. Adam’s a performer and he is not uncomfortable doing anything except maybe making out with a woman while sober.

  • Truthiness

Hey, I’m not a guy! But thanks for the compliment.

Darn that typing while trying to work. Gets me in trouble everytime. Anyhew, I didn’t think he was good looking, so I think my finger realized that and went askew. But hey, lots of other people thought he was hot, so yeah, still think a YouTube introducing him and the rest of the band could be good.

  • Tess

I’m laughing at the NA singers for sporting events. I am sure that there are a ton of female (and Male) entertainers who have sung the NA at a football or bb game, or at the Olympics, etc. who wouldn’t think “athletics” in their normal daily lives (treadmill and weights, aside).

I think equating Kris and not Adam with these gigs is stereotypical nonsense that has no basis in fact…and I personally find it OTT and offensive. OK…now that is off my chest!

Well, damn. If hilarious headlines like that are the result, I don’t want this story going away. That’s awesome. Here’s some more:

David Cook: I’m Coo-coo for Cougars
Cook to Cougar: Hush Cat, My Fans Can Hear You
Cougar on Cook: He Made Me Meow

ETA: For clarity, those are not real headlines. But the editors of Star, US Weekly and Hello! are free to use them if they wish.

  • steph6449

So Adam is a vampire is what you are suggesting.

Lol, well, maybe. He doesn’t seem to be much of an outdoor boy, that’s all. I think he’s said as much, that he gravitated toward performing and not sports, from a young age.

I don’t disagree with the poster who said his performance of the anthem was beautiful. It was in its own way, but for most sports / military audiences where the anthem is being sung in a ceremonial setting, I think they are looking for something that’s more in a naturalistic, inspirational, or at least patriotic-bombastic style.

I don’t think that’s at all stereotypical to say. I can’t imagine Adam sees his natural forte or preferred environment to be singing the anthem at military bases or rowdy baseball/football crowds. He describes himself as glam pop/rock, which is more natural to evening performances with full stagecraft, make-up, etc., and to an entirely different style of music than people tend to play at big sports venues. (Ignoring big splashy half-time shows, which are a totally different piece of the picture as I caveated originally.)

hmmm…where should I start? first of all, there are lots of indoor football stadiums, and secondly lots of NFL games are scheduled to start after 6 or 8 pm. Not saying Adam belongs to indoor and/or night, just to get same facts straight.

As I mentioned before, Prince performed at 07 Super Bowl half time show, and I can totally see Adam fitting in the same setting.

Ricky Martin’s The Cup of Life is a pop dancing song (something Adam said he will be doing, yah, Adam doesn’t restrict to one genre) and it was the official World Cup song in ’98 and arguably the most popular world cup song.

Why did I think Allison’s single was going to be up on iTunes today? Does anyone know the actual release date?

I thought it was the original date as well. I didn’t get a chance to get it before they yanked it before, so I was looking forward to buying it and having a clean copy to own. Well heck, that’s annoying.

And yeah, no info on when it will be available that I know of. Maybe some of the Allison fans can share?

  • Tess

I have this lovely impression that Allison’s roll out is going to be pretty “low key” in a very good sense. I think that Jive is banking on her age, her mature voice, her quirky persona being tools that will be pretty lasting and that they aren’t as interested in being really forceful with Allison.

Not to say she won’t get press and media and appearances and online gigs and nice banners…but the urgency in introducing her isn’t so front and center. I think they are going to take thing slow and steady…let her album build over time…get her some nice opening stuff. I see them having her follow Jordin’s path. Both of these girls will be around for awhile and won’t even hit their stride for 5 years. Geesh, they’ll both be in their early or mid twenties then…perfect for a female entertainer.

ETA…I think her single is scheduled for the 27th.

  • suebrody

I loved SSB as well (which, interestingly, are my initials, so it’s funny for me to type it). It was at a military base and it was beautiful and also perfectly appropriate. He sang it acapella and the audience certainly loved it.

I, too, wonder about Allison’s single added to radio stations, and whether or not she and Kris will have bands. I think Kris mentioned a couple of people, and I see him in one. But does Alli need a band? Miley and Demi aren’t in one, they just have back-up singers. Not that I would put Rocker!Allison in the same category as bland Miley and Demi (despite their success).

  • will

Hadn’t seen that for a while, thanks. To me, Adam does look less confident than usual, at least thru the mid-point when he seems to relax and connect more directly with the audience.

This is Danny’s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqqd_pDlYQk He doesn’t seem to have much potential as a major league baseball pitcher, lol — but his performance here is pretty natural, and throws the crowd some redmeat patriotic bombast toward the end. Both of them sing it well, just very different styles. Not sure I have seen the youtube version for Kris from the hometown visit.

Just looking at these two, strikes me that Adam was at a disadvantage performing indoors (?) on what appears to be a small, bare stage. For any future appearances that he may try for occasions like this, expect he would want to surround himself with a backdrop that would fit his style better.

  • suebrody

I don’t know ‘We Are the Champions’ and ‘YMCA’ are the official World Cup songs.

But of course Kris will sound perfect in these two songs.

  • Trina

People like Katy Perry who are known as “performers” gave a Today Show outdoor concert. People like Springsteen, Rihanna and others with big production have too. I don’t see what makes Adam any different that he shouldn’t be a fit for outdoor shows like that.

  • BeckyMD

steph6449, I don’t wanna revisit the old, and your preferring Danny’s NA in his home town visit to Adam’s version tells me I can stop. Different strokes for different folks, I’ll say.

btw, Adam singing NA was at a private event, only military and their families attended.

Just looking at these two, strikes me that Adam was at a disadvantage performing indoors (?) on what appears to be a small, bare stage.

At first Adam can’t fit in outdoor/daytime venue, now he is at disadv in indoor?

Adam used to sing in Upright Cabaret, so I don’t think singing indoor in small venue is a problem for him.

those don’t sound like a real military crowd, maybe this was a mix of hometown AI fans and the military personnel/families?

It was a restricted event. No AI fans that weren’t military personnel or their families were there. So the squeals were only from the families of military personnel.

For the record, I thought Adam did a great job at the SSB, though there are better clips than that one that show it.

The following comes via a poster at DCO.

Just got my latest TV Guide and there is a small section about Carrie’s Christmas Special.

    Here is part of write-up:

Guest include Dolly Parton, David Cook, Brad Paisley, Kristin Chenoweth, plus Underwood’s mother, sister, and dog. The show will mix traditional holiday songs with singles from Underwood’s new album, “Play On”. The sketches will range from a day in her dog’s life to a spoof of her Idol Victory. “It’s all fun,” says Lythgoe. “It’s done in the worst possible taste.”

It’s sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

  • steph6449

BeckyMD, I’m actually a fan of both. That doesn’t mean that I think every performance is unequivocally perfect or best-suited to them. Especially things any of these folks were asked to do by AI, where AI was driving what happened, and it was only partially tailored to complement the individual performers.

As far as Adam singing in that particular venue, my point was simply that for anyone, and especially a power singer, that kind of naked stage in a small-ish looking indoor venue doesn’t strike me as the best place to let a performer really unleash on the song. If singing the anthem at public events is something Adam wants to do in the future, I have to think he’ll seek settings more matched to his style, and where he can let his vocals really run free with it.

wow. the headline thread is almost all Adam! I love that!

you know, people occasionally squawk on this blog about Adam being over exposed. He really isn’t. The non Idol follower still doesn’t know who he is and the casual AI follower don’t really have them on their radar. So we don’t really need to to worry about that. Hopefully after the AMA’s he WILL be on the general radar but he is far from that now.

There’s nothing awkward with Adam singing the National Anthemn from the video. Anybody from Eminem to Lady Gaga can sing NA in any sports events, outdoor or indoor, day or night. NA is a ballad, not rap (something that Adam may pass and say, “give it to the other guy”).

Reading some of these tweets it seems like people may be confused about Kris’ gig at the Dolphins-Saints game. He is NOT singing the national anthem. In fact, he’s not performing during the game at all. He is performing BEFORE the game at some tailgate party event. Kris is excited because he’s a huge football fan and he will eb able to see the game after he finishes his performance. And, of course, because it’s the first tiem he’ll be performing with his newly-formed band. And it gets him more exposure outside the Idol bubble…

But even if Kris were singing the NA, I don’t know why Adam couldn’t do a perfectly fine job at a similar gig. I don’t think there’s a rule that says you have to be a sports fan in order to sing the NA or perform in the halftime show.

  • girlygirl

Kris isn’t the only one picking up gigs to play at radio stations’ Holiday events…

Alison will be performing at Q107.5 FM (Memphis, TN)’s Jingle Jam on December 4th!

Have you guys seen the mini-drama going on over at Adam’s official site because some of Adam’s more nasty “fans” are freaking out that there is a Kradam thread on the forum? They evidently have been attacking the posters who say nice things about Kris and/or Kradam, and have petitioned to have the thread removed from the site.

So an RCA exec felt compelled to post these official announcements/warnings

Adam Official welcomes ALL Adam fans and this forum was created specifically to counter undue animosity by certain fans who seemingly failed to realize that Adam and Kris share a great friendship. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise; Adam himself supports this forum.

OK, sorry for the pulling this hand of god crap, but some of you asked for it, and I wanted the skeptics to realize that this is for real. RCA has a new team of moderators starting to crack down on the smart-asses among you in order to make Adam Official a happy place for ALL Adam fans. We’ll also be announcing an official email where you’ll be able to contact the moderators with your requests, questions, and suggestions – all of which are welcome. I’m not that guy – I’m the head of online marketing for Adam’s entire campaign here at RCA, but I felt compelled to personally address this petition nonsense over the Kradam controversy. The forum is not going away, so if you’re not a Kradam fan, take a hike, enjoy the 90% of this site that is Kradam-free, and leave the Kradam fans alone, or we will block your account, and then your entire IP address, if you insist on picking fights for no good reason. There’s room for healthy argument here – lot’s of it – but the hateful attacks will be severely dealt with moving forward. Thanks for listening and get set for a monstrous amount of Adam music, photos, and info in the coming weeks.

I mean, I know some people don’t like the idea of Kradam and don’t like Kris, but here’s an idea — just ignore the thread. Stay off of it entirely! Seriously, how hard is that? Why attack other posters and cause suh a stink that RCA has to get someone to slap you down?

  • ggdoorsfan

was watching the online outlets very closely’ ¦ dylan had the slight edge in pre orders, from places like amazon, wal mart, etc’ ¦ but david balanced it out by wiping the floor with dylan on itunes’ ¦ ‘“ and is still leading in downloads on itunes – ”christmas from the heart” is in the 50′s now, dylan is in the 100′s’ ¦ ready for some promo to kick in now to help drive week to week sales…

    iz a happy camper!

  • ilovekrisallen39

Yeah I saw that on tweeter earlier girlgirl. I was thinking the same thing. Why go in there if you feel that way. Man some people need to just calm down. I don’t get why some people just can’t understand that Kris and Adam really have a good friendship and are happy for each other. They would not like some of there fans acting like they do.

Yeah, and it’s about time RCA started moderating that site. It’s those really nasty OTT fans over there that (a) resulted in my never signing up for the site and (b) are teh reason many of Adam’s other fans don’t like to be called glamberts. Let the smack down commence.

  • Tony

That is so pathetic. Overzealous fans give the sane ones such a bad name.

  • Squirrely

I don’t even go to adamofficial – I went a couple of times in the beginning but didn’t really care for it.

  • Truthiness

ETA, not sure what the AO stuff has to do with anything.

So I’ll just say, glad to hear about Allison’s holiday radio gig as well. yay!

  • CindyM

    Not yet.

  • Keel

ETA, not sure what the AO stuff has to do with anything.

Well, I thought it was interesting (though not as interesting as the made up Cook-Cougar headlines however).

I was wondering why more Adam fans weren’t posting on his official site. I mean there’s a lot of Adam fans online, but seemingly not on his official site, so the nastiness of some fans there surely explains a lot (though likely not all). Also, when someone at Adam’s label is perturbed enough to actually smack down some crazy fans because of their forum behavior, then that’s also of interest. Most labels/online mods are usually super nice to fans, so the smack down language is pretty telling.

  • carttash

I hardly ever go on AO.com. Or KA’s. Just out of curiosity….is there a Kradam thread on Kris’ site too?

  • girlygirl

Kris tends not to respond to Adam via twitter. He likely just texts or DM’s or calls him privately. I do hope he tweetws something about TFM, though, just to show public support

  • girlygirl

    Carttash

Yes, there is one on both Adam’s and Kris’ official sites

  • ilovekrisallen39

Yeah I know girlgirl I really love Kris I voted for him after all. But I wish he would tweeter Adam more . I know in the interview that he said he saw Adam the other day. But Adam did tweet Kris so it would be nice to see the tweet. I just love that picture it’s such eye candy.

  • carttash

Thanks girlygirl. I can never catch up on the threads being in a different timezone.

I’m a little pissed at Kris. Not only doesn’t he respond to Adam’s tweets but he actually got a gig that Adam should have gotten. Adam would do great at the tailgate party. I thought 19M wasn’t going to muddy the waters by getting Kris any gigs.

Somebody must have slipped up. ;)

LOL at the faux tabloid headlines. Some more:

Cook’s Cougar Denied Catnip, Bares Claws

    Fans To Cougar: Catfight!!!!

He’s Just Not That Into You: When Cougars Attack

    Great stuff! Keep ‘em coming!

Allison’s cover is just right, what a great job! (I probably would have loved it even if it wasn’t), and I like the single, even though I’m not a bubble-gum chewer, although some people think I act like one…

  • Studio57

I was wondering that too because when next season starts more general boards are going to be primarily concentrating on the new crop of Idols.

I think the general consensus is that they do not keep the site as up to date as they do here, IDF and ONTD_AI.

And I am only speaking for myself here, but some people just don’t like the OTT talk on exclusive fan sites.

Part 2 of Brian Mansfield’s interview with David Archuleta:
    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2009/10/david-archuleta-on-writing-in-nashville/1

Its a good interview, david talking about song writing and his time in nashville.

“David spent most of last in Nashville, where singer-songwriter Joy Williams, a co-writer of Waiting for Yesterday, helped him put together songwriting sessions. During his Nashville stay, David also worked with singer-songwriter Matt Wertz, Mat Kearney producer Robert Marvin and producer/songwriter/novelist Matt Bronleewe.”
    -snip-

“It’s cool getting to talk about things I want to talk about. I feel like it’s me talking in these songs, and that’s what I really like about them. Even though I talk weird and stuff, I guess that’s what makes me the way I am. There’s more of my personality in these songs.”

    lots more at the link

  • PRMari

Allison has been finishing up vocals with David Hodges today:

hodgesmusic Finishing up some vocals today with @allison4realzzz today. And she rocks.

Hopefully that means the song she wrote with him, You don’t know me, will be included in the album.

Thanks Frogcooke – That’s a fantastic interview with David. The second part was especially enjoyable.

  • SpenserJ

And I am only speaking for myself here, but some people just don’t like the OTT talk on exclusive fan sites.

I speak only for myself as well, fansites are creepy. Boards where like-minded uber-fans talk to each other day after day and any disention is quickly smacked down, become rather cult-like and start to breed the crazy.

Also, probably just me again, but I don’t even like my husband enough to go to a place where he was the only subject of the discussion every day. So, I’m not likely to do it for a stranger either.

MJ’s updates on all of the former contestants are more than enough news for me.

  • Chicagolaw

OMG, he looks so hot in that video.

And, I hate fansites. I don’t know where I’ll go when things settle here for this season. As for AO, I hope RCA stepping in makes a difference. I was shocked over how nasty some folks over there got toward Adam’s Dad’s girlfriend. Just some ugly things said, and she is basically a part of Adam’s family.

I really like Allison’s album cover, BTW. Looks great.

R/e fansites, I do go to DCO some, but spend most of my time over here. Sometimes I just need to wallow in the Cookie love, heh.

  • Sassycatz

And I am only speaking for myself here, but some people just don’t like the OTT talk on exclusive fan sites.

More over the top then some of the Adam threads can get? Whoa.

Personal talk of that nature is not allowed on DCO. For instance, the recent tabloid article about Cook’s “Cougar” gal pal was strictly verboten on DCO, so I don’t know why Adam’s site can’t follow suit. They just need moderators.

Of course, that doesn’t mean there are not at least a half dozen other DC fan boards — many requiring registration and not allowing casual browsing of those not registered — who *are* talking about it. Heh. It’s a bit hypocritical, as I am sure many of those registered to DCO are also registered to these other message boards, chattering away on these personal topics. But, hey! Whatever the powers that be — including David — want on their own board. It’s still a “free country” on other non-official boards.

    **********
    On another topic….

Apparently Gawker has an article on the Adam “Details” article, skewering “Details” more than Adam. But, it’s definitely snarkily critical of the whole shebang … pardon the expression.

  • Adamme

If singing the anthem at public events is something Adam wants to do in the future, I have to think he’ll seek settings more matched to his style, and where he can let his vocals really run free with it.

Like Super Bowl … yeah the setting more matched to his style.. where he can let his vocals really run free with it …

Actually, despite my tone in my previous post, I have to hand it to DCO, it’s a very good official site. They do a good job, keeping it up-to-date, fact based, and interesting. I do get frustrated with them on occasions — a number of occasions — but it’s one of the better official fan boards I’ve seen, and it’s run by fans as far as I know. (I think it was even recognized as being one of the top 25 sites by some third party that evaluated fan sites.)

Is somebody preventing that?? I’m serious. I see the headlines threads at night and they are basically David Cook central these days.

I’m not sure that’s so. I’m not here much late at night, but one of the reasons posts about David had been increasing at night is that he’s one of the few Idols out there, having multiple concerts every week for months on end. Once his tour officially ends, it might get quieter from his front … if he stays away from twitter.

  • ksgirlfordc

Is somebody preventing that?? I’m serious. I see the headlines threads at night and they are basically David Cook central these days

And no one is stopping them from talking about them – it’s physically impossible. And you can’t force people to join a conversation if they don’t want to or don’t find the subject worth talking about. I like DC but half the stuff posted about him here don’t interest me, most of it I find meh so I don’t post about it.

David Archuleta, Benton Paul team up for Christmas Tour

Former American Idol favorite David Archuleta, 18, will be joined by singer Benton Paul on his holiday Tour “Christmas from the Heart.” The tour follows the CD of the same name, which was just released last week.

Singer/songwriter Benton Paul is not quite as well known, but his smooth voice and terrific sound will surely get him some new fans when he opens for Archuleta. Benton tweeted “to answer all the q’s: Yes, I’m the opener for the whole @davidarchie tour!” Check out Benton’s new EP “Trois” available on iTunes now! You can even get a free download of the song “Run” all week.

Hee. It’s all about perspective, isn’t it? I think this site is very Adam-centric. Not that it’s mj that’s making it that way; it’s just that there are lots of his fans congregating here (vs. fans of other Idols) so it’s pretty much all Adam, all the time, is my experience in the comments thread (and yes, even the headlines thread). Not a big deal to me, because unless an Adam article or piece of news is actually of interest, I just scroll on through for my Cook fix. It’s high season for Adam (and Kris and Allison) news and promo so it’s perfectly understandable (and amusing because the angst and the worries and over-thinking every tiny detail of the album launch / Idol promotion is oh-so-familiar). Welcome one and all to the Good Ship It Never Ends!

Cool, never been there, never will, but I’ll take your word for it. Must be nice, I’m jellus. But in my experience with it’s usually not the case, even if an ofical site is good, there usually is a better fansite. Well until they get their content yanked and shut down. sigh. Stupid copyright laws. So by default sometimes the offical site is “better.”

Anyhew, I like seeing lots of stuff about David Cook here. Or David A. as well, and I’m not even a stan of either one and definitely not of David A. outside his personality (which is cute as a bug in a rug).

  • MollyAnnMay

Woo, Allison has a gig! The first of many, I hope. I can’t wait to hear her sing live again, especially new songs that she likes. FIBOU is growing on me, but I’d still love to hear it without all the production. And I am also excited to hear her with a band that’s built around her and will hopefully at some point down the road become a real band. In answer to someone’s question, Miley et al. don’t do the band thing because they’re pop singers, not rock singers. A great rock singer needs to be an integral instrument in a great rock band. That’s how rock works. IMO. ;-)

As for my other favorite rock singer, LOL Keel & co, those fake headlines are hilarious. Hush [fill in the blank] will never not be funny.

I don’t have any snarky headlines to offer, but I do have to say this story reminded me that if Cook ever wants to add another song to the ever-changing line-up, there’s a little ditty called ‘Beware! Cougar!’ by The Academy is… that he could cover.

Yeah, on second thought, maybe not.

  • Sassycatz

I think you missed my point… the point that people were “squawking” about it being too much news about Adam in the headlines, but that it was really — if there was “squawking” going on, which I’m not really seeing (that terminology, admittedly, rankled, even though I should have thicker skin by now and sorry MJ about that) — that the headlines are loaded with comments about Adam. And that’s fine, but to say so is a valid opinion, you know? And yes, he gets a lot of his own threads, but the headlines section is also full of Adam stuff. It’s *fine* that it is mostly Adam, but there are fans of other Idols too and I’m sure I’m not the only one that gets a little antsy for things to even out a bit. It’ll get there; in a few months it’ll be Season 9 and off we go.

  • tierbee

Adam is no doubt Topic #1 here lately, and it’s totally in reaction to hard news like the story about the Details article, the 2012 song, change in timetable for release of album, etc, etc.

What’s odd to me about all the David Cook banter here is that, other than the humorous Cougar story, and maybe a tweet here or there, there is very little hard news about DC (yes, we know he’s on a tour, but so is Michael Sarver if you want to get technical).

It seems to me that many have been reflecting on warm feelings about the guy from Season 7. I think DC is a great singer, and I would eagerly pay to see his act if he was appearing within 100 miles of here. But I just don’t see the justification for the constant blathering on about him without it being in response to some news event, no matter how trivial or absurd.

Why no proportional talk about David Archuleta, for example, or, for that matter, Carrie Underwood (if you want to go back more than one season)?

  • Squirrely

Been there done that give me something new. Like I said I like David a lot, he just don’t excite me anymore. Not saying it to offend any other fans so don’t take it that way. Wouldn’t have even said anything but the conversation just went that way. I’m happy you guys find everything thing he does so enjoyable – just like I find almost everything Adam does exciting.

As one of the funnier DCO posters once posted, it’s the Idol Circle of Life. I’m not nearly as funny as she is, but it goes a little like this: Each new season, Simon says that this is the greatest group of contestants ever. From the start of that season through to the start of the next, the contestants from that season get a lot of the net chatter, including a lot of the talk at general Idol sites, like this one. And then the next season, it starts up again. [Cue JHud, singing Circle of Life. Hold up lion cub.]

Do I get to choose the male model? Because I have some ideas on that one’ ¦just saying.

Better not be Neal Tiemann. He’d probably bite David’s tongue off!

You said it right there. He’s a great singer worth paying to see. He won Idol by one of the biggest margins, in a come-from-behind win, during one of the most popular seasons. There’s no mystery to me. He has a lot of fans.

Why no proportional talk about David Archuleta, for example, or, for that matter, Carrie Underwood (if you want to go back more than one season)?

Be my guest, but I’m getting the impression they have to do something scandalous! Come on Archie and Carrie. You can do it! It would be even better if it were … TOGETHER!

Aaargh, I am sorry, my whole point was that if there was squawking it wasn’t about the # of headlines but the # of comments. Can we just leave it at that please? It was not intended to start an argument.

(yes, we know he’s on a tour, but so is Michael Sarver if you want to get technical)

And if someone posts YouTubes of Michael’s performances… I’d check them out to see how he’s doing. There have been posts here of everyone’s shows, including Archie’s. I think there’s one on the previous page with YouTubes of Daughtry’s shows. I personally like to see what everyone is up to. I like the variety. Carrie & Archie have had a lot of comments lately with their albums and Carrie’s upcoming show, I think.

I doubt most of them are going to AO. First off the site, as previously discussed just a few posts up, kind of sucks. And I think it’s fine if all the Adam fans stayed here and posted, as long as there was Adam news to share. Just like I can catch up with David Cook news here as well even though it’s not Season 7, as well as for every other Idol ever. As long as they have something to discuss, like the latest concert show, or Tweet, or whatever. It’s all good.

Though I agree, that Adam won’t be the main source of news, just like neither David’s are anymore. And a new crop of idols will take over as the main faves.

The more things change, the more the stay the same.

I think that’s right, but a lot of people here think that Season 7 was the most important season of AI ever and always will be. After all, in their mind, the ratings for Season 8 were terrible compared to 7 (and 7 wasn’t as good as the first couple of seasons either, probably, but nobody ever reminds you of that, because it might tarnish the beloved memories of AI7, and that ain’t allowed) LOL

  • sunchick

    I’d pay to see that!

Hell yeah. Can I get that pictoral in time for my Xmas stocking? And I’d listen to my Bob Dylan pervy uncle carols while I thumb through the pages, too. Is that wrong?

Welcome one and all to the Good Ship It Never Ends!

Ha, no kidding. To every thing, turn turn turn…to every season, turn turn… and a time for every Idol, and their fangirls…a time for Adam, a time for Kris, a time for Archie, a time for Cook….blah blah blah blah…something about casting away stones, and schmaltzy stuff like that…

Ha, that was bad. I suck at parody tonight apparently.

Lucky for me, I dig Adam AND Cook. And Glee. Go MJ’s. She really does run a great site.

I think that’s right, but a lot of people here think that Season 7 was the most important season of AI ever and always will be.

And that’s unusual because??? I guarantee that pretty much everyone who’s ever followed AI here has a favorite season. For all types of reasons. When I started reading MJ’s blog the consensus seemed to be that Season 5 was the pinnacle of the franchise and it was all downhill from there. I’m sure that sentiment has continued, but now there’s also a lot of Season 7 stans floating around, myself included. And some people really, really, reeeeally adore the Kradison chronicles. Still others probably feel like Season 6 is highly underrated, or that nobody will ever top the more organic way Kelly’s win happened, or that the 3 diva season was the bomb diggety… I have no problem with any of that.

  • Sassycatz

Heh, I’m totally aware that a handful of us DC fans do enjoying blathering on/bantering back and forth about the silliest of DC-related non-news. I agree part of it is that DC is likable (IMO), and has his share of invested fans, etc. but TBH, I really think it just so happens that there seems to be a mix of personalities here at MJs among the DC fans, where we like to derail our conversations into jokes about fake cougar headlines or the like. There’s not a lot of real news going on about DC like there is about Kradison, but the hilarity in his ever-changing concert banter and his snarky tweets seem to keep us occupied, heh.

  • GaryJ

Absolutely true…and the favorite is almost always Season 7 (I liked it too…the judges’ anointed frontrunner got beaten by the talented underdog, courtesy of votes by the American people). You’ve got to love that…the people flipping off the manipulation of the judges/show producers!

I’m serious. I see the headlines threads at night and they are basically David Cook central these days. Other people post about other idols and there are no responses to them. Most of the Adam discussions have been isolated to specific threads about him once they are created. So, what’s the issue?

There is no issue, GaryJ. For the record, this site, mjsbigblog, was Cook’s playground, last year. Mainly because mj supported Cook and consequently, many Cook fans gathered here. Relatively, Archie didn’t get much support as the Cook’s rival and Cook fans kept beating up the poor little guy on this site. Good thing, Archie has never read this blog, and still doesn’t peek any internet blogs. He usually avoids negatives but loves to keep the positive attitudes, which is why he looks always happy.

But these days, mj opens up more for Archie and as an Archie fan, I (as well as many others) am grateful to her. I still don’t know how mj gets the latest idol news so quickly and faster than most of idol related websites. But I think it’s because she works harder and more dedicated than other bloggers. :)

Season 8 idol fans, enjoy your time now. People usually have a short memory span when new ones get spotlights and become the next biggest star in the history of music. haha.

Err, maybe that happened in Season 8 too?

To my mind, there are two differences.

    1) Cook is a better all around stage performer and singer than Kris, although Kris is a very good singer.

And, 2) as runner up, Adam doesn’t want a life of obscurity — no matter what — compared to Archie who *just* wants to sing and sings very well.

    Compare the two.

  • sma11ie

GaryJ, I think a lot of the folks here who’ve been around MJs for a while will tell you that the stats will tell you Season 5 was the height of AI’s popularity- it was very much in the mainstream media, ratings and tour sales were at their peak, Carrie, the most recent winner, was doing phenomenal, and it was generally Idol fever all around. Season 6 and Season 3, according to stats, seem to be somewhat less popular seasons. Not sure the back story with S3, but with S6, its lower ratings and tour sales, seems to show that audiences were suffering from Idol fatigue, coming off of Daughtry’s success and Taylor’s lack thereof, the ridiculousness of the Sanjaya phenomenon. Anyway, I agree with sunchick, I think it’s fair to say that different people will have their favorite seasons. S8 was the most recent, and I’d say its news and fans by far dominate the blog, as it should (MJ’s about moving forward), but S7 was the most recent after that, so it’s only natural that a bunch of us who favored that season are still around and speak fondly of it :) .

Relatively, Archie didn’t get much support as the Cook’s rival and Cook fans kept beating up the poor little guy on this site.

ghl, who’s “the Cook’s rival”? Anyway, not sure it’s fair to say that in general Cook fans were beating up on Archie- a lot of us liked both Davids even if we favored one.

  • ksgirlfordc

(and 7 wasn’t as good as the first couple of seasons either, probably, but nobody ever reminds you of that, because it might tarnish the beloved memories of AI7, and that ain’t allowed) LOL

Well here goes my opinion on this…..the first couple of seasons were NEW. New show nothing like it on TV. No one said that S7 was better. Just the one some of us were interested in. I wasn’t invested in any other season so I have no point of reference to the other seasons. I just know what I like and it was S7. As to “tarnishing our beloved memories”, no one could do that anyway. By the way, what was your favorite season.

  • Keel

What’s odd to me about all the David Cook banter here is that, other than the humorous Cougar story, and maybe a tweet here or there, there is very little hard news about DC (yes, we know he’s on a tour, but so is Michael Sarver if you want to get technical).

Well, there are tours and there are tours, and there’s a reason DC still has plenty of fans posting concert vids of his on youtube and none (that I know) of Sarver’s (probably also the same reason that Cook’s tour has been extended to 130+ shows, which I doubt will ever happen to Sarver’s). Just like the AI tour, the vids and the occasional review/interview by local papers keep his fans interested. Also, since he changes up his set lists (and sometimes the arrangement or plugged-in vs. acoustic presentation of the songs), is very witty with the banter and generally not painful on the eyes (to Cook fans), the tour vids are not the same every night and keep us plenty interested. Also, for whatever reason, just like the Adam fans, plenty of Cook stans have found a home here and we don’t feel like leavin’ just because a new season (or two) has arrived. As discussed above, it’s not always puppies and rainbows at individual Idol fansites. (Oh wait, sometimes it is always puppies and rainbows at individual Idol fansites and the other POV is exactly what we would miss if we didn’t come here.)

Well, no… at least not for me. Season 7 was important for *me,* but I don’t think it was the most important season ever. Season 5 seems to have been the most amazing one yet. But of course if your all-time favorite Idol was on a particular season, that will be the most important to YOU. That’s just the way it works. I don’t know about others, but I didn’t have the energy to get invested this year in anyone after last year. Some folks who are invested in Season 8′s idols probably won’t have the energy to get invested next year. Some folks move on season to season like I did up until S7, some folks find a favorite and that’s where they stay. Believe me, folks will bring over YouTubes of shows of Adam/Kris/whoever next year… and I’ll enjoy watching them :) . Just the way the cycle goes. I’ve been in both the camp of liking and voting for someone and then not really following them much after Idol… and being way invested, lol.

As far as tarnishing my memories… all I gotta do is go back and watch YouTubes from last year and I have opened up my can of polish and gotten that baby shining all over again. Ha!

Funny you say that because I only got into S7 in the top three. I only watched the Finale of S6, but Adam had me watching all of S8, so to me S8 was better regardless of ratings. To be devils advocate you can say people were so disappointed with S7 they didn’t bother to tune in for S8.

I’m sure those people exist, too. And I’m sure some folks were so disappointed in S8 that they won’t tune in for S9. Different strokes for different folks. I’m unabashedly addicted to the stupid show, even when it makes me furious. I simply wasn’t invested in one individual this year. It actually made for a much less stressful viewing experience… and I got to like more of the Idols because I wasn’t so tunnel vision focused on one.

  • GaryJ

By the way, what was your favorite season.

I’ve watched every season since the first one (I missed the first couple of weeks of 8), and I’ve got to say, I like 7 and 8 about equally.

In 7 and 8 (especially 8), the judges tried to ram their favorite down the throats of the American public, and they did it in a pretty transparent manner. Fortunately, people like you voted for Cookie and Kradam…and short-circuited their con job!

I think they had it in for Cook because he is more of an adult-oriented (non-Disney) entertainer, contrary to the patented American Idol cookiecutter blandness that Simon and some of the others at times seem to crave. That Cook is a unique performer and much more talented (in my opinion) doesn’t mean diddly to these people. They are only interested in creating sanitized, Disney-oriented talent for the bubble gum set. Same thing with Kradison (I don’t think Simon even wanted Adam in the AI8 competition, to judge by his attitude at Adam’s audition).

And, I’ve got to admit, the funny stuff about the Cook/Cougar headlines was the most amusing of the year, with the Archie-Carrie thing way up there too. So, please keep it coming anyway, no matter how silly…you have no idea how many smiles you have provided.

  • Trina

I think the huge difference between 7 & 8 and when it came down to whether or not the TPTB favorite won was even though Archie was the early Chosen One, well, they actually did like DC and seemed to be happy with him winning (watch all the judges reaction to his win and listen to Simon’s interview with Ryan the next day – he was GIDDY) Simon Fuller even said after the season ended he wasn’t shocked DC won because he saw the votes every week so if anything they were prepared for it. Kris right to the end it was like the judges couldn’t accept what just happened and it showed all over their faces.

Season 7 I put up there with season 5 with 5 having the edge. Season 5 was pretty damn epic..and if you think some of us are nuts now with the season 7 stuff, hooboy! Anyone who was on here during 5 knows how nuts things got.

  • sunchick

and the favorite is almost always Season 7 (I liked it too’ ¦the judges’ anointed frontrunner got beaten by the talented underdog, courtesy of votes by the American people). You’ve got to love that’ ¦the people flipping off the manipulation of the judges/show producers!

Technically, I think Season 5 will always be the people flipping off the manipulation of the judges season, and Taylor the ultimate FU, Simon! champion. I didn’t watch that year, but yet somehow I still know that Daughtry is the most famous shock boot in AI history, the first and only time the obvious early TCO didn’t make it to the finale (well, unless you count Tamyra Grey, but they weren’t really in full on manipulation mode yet back then.) Season 7′s claim to fame is probably being first season instruments were allowed. So many of the fan fave breakout performances of Season 7 included instruments, like Cook on his AC Les Paul for Hello, Brooke on the piano for Let It Be, Jason on his uke for Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Archie at the piano for Angels. Plus Syesha was the only non-musician throwback to old school AI in the top 5. I think that season was the season that the musician/singer made their mark on the franchise, and probably the reason it’s so fondly remembered as a turning point. Most people agree that adding instruments was a good thing. Season 8 for me is the circus season…so much drama. From the sobby backstories to the show running over time to the addition of Kara to Adam’s awesome OTT-ness to the whole angel vs. devil thing with Adam and Danny to Kris sneaking up on everyone in a big shocker to all the Kradam and Kradison shipping and Danny’s scream heard round the world… craziness, like riding a runaway train, from beginning to end. Season 3 is Simon’s wet dream with the diva show down, Season 2 is pretty much personified by Clay and Ruben, and Season 1 started it all. Season 4…I guess it’s the season that brought the franchise the most successfull winner in Carrie.

  • Squirrely

But the GOOD part of it is I got to go to five shows this year, all different, and have a blast, hear great music, discover some new bands, and make new friends. It sure was a circus. It was like Sanjaya multiplied by a gazillion. And don’t forget Norman Gentle, Bikini Girl, Tatiana, and maybe some other wack job I’ve left out. It was like the producer felt the show couldn’t hold its own on talent alone, and needed some contrived and artificial melodrama to punch up the slipping ratings, together with the real melodrama of Danny’s situation.

The odd thing is, Seasons 7 and 8 provided some of the best talent the program has ever seen, and contestants who didn’t make it into the top 2 or 3 may just have decent careers too…

  • ghl

I don’t think they are really interested in Disney oriented talent. Rather, in Archie’s case, they thought he would be able to capture young female fans’ hearts if he moved on deep in the competition, which would gain more younger idol audience (since Idol viewers’ average age is 40).

Archie refused the offer from Disney last year and his goal is not becoming a Disney star. He toured with Demi simply because he needed to expand his fanbase to younger ones, just like Jordin toured with Jonas. Same goes to Kradison, too. Jive idols are not necessarily equal to Disney oriented singers.

But considering what I bolded above, of your comments, and the fact that Season 7′s ratings were better than Season 6′s, I don’t get it! Talent won out in Season 7. It was an enormously talented season with a genuine, non-circus, purely-based-on-the-music competition. It did pretty well. So, why go for the circus in Season 8?

The only answer I can point to is that Nigel left and Ken Warwick — and whoever had been previously hamstrung from Nigel’s staff — broke through and wanted to make their mark by making the show even more of a reality/trainwreck program than a talent competition. And, I wouldn’t be surprised if Simon Cowell was a big part of that decision. Just consider that ridiculous house they made people audition in where they had to sing for their life. The group home the top 13 lived in which they hoped would generate drama and didn’t. And, the emphasis on the big judge entrances as well as the judges’ save!

The reality, as opposed to talent, folk finally were let loose to make this show a complete and total joke. Thank god, the contestants, their talent, and the voters did not cooperate with them.

Hopefully, we’ll get back to Season 7′s vibe in Season 9.

They are only interested in creating sanitized, Disney-oriented talent for the bubble gum set. Same thing with Kradison (I don’t think Simon even wanted Adam in the AI8 competition, to judge by his attitude at Adam’s audition).

I’m not sure they wanted something sanitized, but they have been looking for the next teen sensation; something similar to the popularity and marketability (is that a word?) of Miley or the Jonas brothers. Simon has repeatedly stated he wants the the cutoff age to go younger. Problem is that the teenage winners (i.e. Jordon, Archie) are so much better than the young pop style so they are harder to market. I think Allison has a good chance.

Am I missing out terribly on a big laugh? I didn’t watch it yet. But if it is good for a laugh, I’m in.

You be the judge Ooops I laughed again. I think mj thought it was lulzy as well. Oh and I think it was on the Rachel Maddow show as well, discussing it.

It does have the most views of all the videos of XFactor and I think for just this reason.

I don’t think they are really interested in Disney oriented talent. Rather, in Archie’s case, they thought he would be able to capture young female fans’ hearts if he moved on deep in the competition, which would gain more younger idol audience (since Idol viewers’ average age is 40).

On my street, the average Idol viewer’s age is probably 85 (I live in Florida), and they loved Archie on AI7. Some people actually think Archie is an artist who is more believable doing material more suitable for people older than he is, I guess sort of like Josh Groban or someone like that.

I think Archie had captured young girls’ hearts long before the AI7 finals, and they were therefore already part of the AI demographic (like they are every year, probably why Coke is a big sponsor).

Archie was one of the most sanitized contestants in AI history, and elderly folks liked him just as much as the tween girls did. That’s why the show was promoting him so vigorously…they thought (correctly) that he would have broad appeal, and he still does, which I think explains the Christmas album.

Archie refused the offer from Disney last year and his goal is not becoming a Disney star.

Archie had an offer from Disney and he turned it down? But my understanding is that 19 has first dibs on offers and he wouldn’t be allowed to accept any other offers if 19 (i.e. Jive) wanted him. Yes?

But considering what I bolded above, of your comments, and the fact that Season 7′s ratings were better than Season 6′s, I don’t get it! Talent won out in Season 7. It was an enormously talented season with a genuine, non-circus, purely-based-on-the-music competition. It did pretty well. So, why go for the circus in Season 8?

Season 7 didn’t do that much better than season 6 in the ratings. I don’t think that talent is enough to sustain the high ratings that AI had in his earlier years not with all the competition of hundreds of channels and the internet.

I think they are trying to make a show more pop oriented and that appeals to younger people with all the guest judges and Ellen, in that sense promoting Adam may be part of the strategy because he has an edgier image and they could need an entertainer like him to spice the image of the show.

It makes me feel kind of nostalgic because it seems that it takes away from what made the beauty of AI which is to see people like Kelly, Fantasia or Cook go from completely unknown during their auditions to top of the charts.

I think you are right about AI wanting to expand its viewership to a younger audience. Why else would they have brought in Miley Cyrus for Idol Gives Back and the Jonas Brothers for the S7 finale (both of which I found unbearable to watch)?

LOL!! Oh, man, if I didn’t have someone telling me what that was from… I’d assume it was a parody of X-factor. That was so bad… it was definitely hilarious. Ha!

I know! It’s one for the books. Ahhh. And they survived on that! Weren’t even in the bottom. As I said the night the show aired, who knew Great Britain had as much an appreciation for the lulz as I did. But thank goodness they do. Next week we get another performance. Yay! I don’t know how they are going to top that, but I’ll be looking forward to seeing them try.

I can’t decide which was the best part. The speaking part (WTF)? The red suits? The “dancing”? Awesome. Ha!

Archie had an offer from Disney and he turned it down? But my understanding is that 19 has first dibs on offers and he wouldn’t be allowed to accept any other offers if 19 (i.e. Jive) wanted him. Yes?

I heard that offers started coming in after he sang IMAGINE. To prepare for the case where 19 didn’t make an offer for him, other recording companies competed against each other and made an offer as high as possible. Disney was rumored to be one of 7 recording companies that made an offer. Maybe what I said doesn’t exactly transfer what I meant to say. But David also refused to be part of High School Musical movie at that time. Rumors were that 19E should give him a matching offer for contract if they wanted him, and talks of much more money and 3 CDs were surfaced.

  • JRB5776

^^ Yes, but 19 had to opt out first. They have first dibs on the Idols. So they wouldn’t have to match any other offers first.

    He did turn down HSM.

I also read at the time that he turned down an offer from Julliard to finish HS there.

  • ozarka

Thanks for clarifying, ghl. What I don’t understand about this whole 19 having the “first right of refusal” business is wouldn’t that essentially mean that they can give an idol the worst and cheapest offer of them all and still that contestant has to accept it? Perhaps someone can enlighten me on that matter. Does 19′s offer have to match or exceed what others are offering or can they pretty much offer the bear minimum and still lock in that contestant as an indentured servant for the life of the contract?

ETA: I guess JRB answered my question.

  • ozarka

However, theoretically, if 19′s offer did suck, I suppose that Archie could have refused to sign the contract. He would then have had to wait until August before he could entertain offers from other companies. He could have done this if he knew that Disney or some other entity had an even better offer waiting for him after he is released from the 19 obligation.

  • JRB5776

I’m not sure Ozarka. Does that give them any bargaining power? He still had to sign a contract with Jive. And that was negotiated. So maybe bidding wars help. Don’t really know. I don’t follow AI. Just what I’ve read here and there while following David. I’m sure others here know for certain.

For me, Season 7 will always be up there as my favorite. However, much can be said about Seasons 4 & 5. There was talent in most of the TOP 12 line-up.

Season 8 had too many weak singers to be counted up there as a favorite of mine. All the changes made by AI allowed people (at least three or four) who may not have made it in Season 7.

The strength of Adam and Allison cannot carry the whole season for me.
