You’re saying the NPR dude had higher hopes for Cook. So that means that his reaction to the final cut is less valid? He should put an asterisk next to his review with a disclaimer that it’s an Idol album, so it’s okay that he was disappointed?

He has a right to feel however he wants. My point is that he speaks like someone who doesn’t understand the Idol machine. I thought it was funny. I thought his take on Idol was naive. It was like “OMG, I thought Cook was going to change everything!” Uhm, NO.

I actually had to listen to the NPR review twice to realize he was saying anything negative because the clips were so awesome. It’s always a good thing when the music can speak for itself! It’s interesting that a lot of the negative reviews are based on the reviewers having high expectations of David. It’s flattering but a bit unfair. Kind of like how Simon used to treat Carly. Because I’m an obsessed little girl who has too much time on her hands (or simply no motivation to do any real work), I’ve read nearly every professional review of Cook’s album that I can get my hands on. The reactions are all over the spectrum, although I’m just happy the majrity of fans are taking the album well. :)

But the lyrics of "Fountain of Sorrow" and "Late for the Sky" and "Opening Farewell" are just gorgeous. I love DC to bits, but if he can write lyrics like Jackson Browne some day, he will be doing very, very well.
