SCOTTY McCREERY MAKES HISTORIC RETAIL SPLASH

Ruben Studdard was the last “Idol” champ to start his career with a No. 1 album, when his Soulful entered the Dec.27, 2003, tally with 417, 000 sold. Kelly Clarkson, the first “Idol” champ, also bowed at No. 1, with Thankful on May 3, 2003 (297, 000). Further, Clear As Day owns the biggest debut sales week of any “Idol” winner’s first album since 2008, when David Cook’s self-titled set started with 280, 000 at No. 3.

McCreery easily beats the arrivals of the last two “Idol” winners, poprock-dudes-with-guitars Lee DeWyze and Kris Allen. Allen’s self-titled 2009 debut launched with 80, 000 (No. 11) and in 2010, DeWyze’s Live It Up bowed on the list at No. 19 with 39, 000.In fact, after just one week, McCreery’s Clear As Day has sold more than Live It Up has moved in its nearly 11 months of release (146, 000). If McCreery can keep up the pace, he could trump Allen’s debut, which has moved 329, 000. T

his year marked the first time the top two finishers on “Idol” were both country acts—runner-up Lauren Alaina will likely arrive in the top 10 with her debut, Wildflower. Previous to 2011, the only “Idol” winner to go on to have a country career was 2005 victor Carrie Underwood, who has also become the biggest-selling “Idol” contestant of them all. She has shifted 12.4 million albums in the United States. The second-biggest “Idol” winner is Clarkson, with 10.7 million sold. In a perfect scenario, McCreery could turn into the male version of Underwood, but it’s too early to predict where McCreery’s road will take him.

Lauren Alaina on her ‘make it or break it’ debut

“I feel like this first album is kind of make-it-or-break-it for me, because I just got off national television. So people know who I am, but they don’t know who I am as an artist, ” said Lauren in a recent interview. “I just feel like this album is my way of kind of putting myself out there and showing them exactly who I am.”

“She is a breath of fresh air in country music today, ” said Underwood in an email. “I can’t wait to see what she’ll do in the future!”

“I think she’s really talented and she’s such a sweet girl, ” said McBride in an interview. “I just really hope that she goes far.”

Kelly Clarkson: I’d have done OK on The Voice but not the X Factor

How is the new album different to the others?

It sounds so much better than the others. Sometimes people get hold of us pop girl singers and compress the hell out of our vocals. Even voices that don’t need Auto-Tune get it, so you have all these robotic voices. I wanted this record to sound like my live vocals.

David Cook comments on ‘This Loud Morning’

“My favorite song on the record? It changes. Right now I’ve been kinda tuning into the imagery of Paper Heart.

“All three songs (the three we liked best) we chased. Sometimes a song will come together real quick like in a day or two. Get the instrumentation and then I go in and cut the vocals and then it’s done. But those three songs all involved a lot of hours of trying things and getting the best possible mood across in those songs. They were all challenges.

Steve Jones facing the axe Factor? Producers ‘auditioning co-hosts or replacements’ as the presenter fails to charm American audiences

Show bosses have already proved they have no problem getting rid of their stars if they don’t think they have the X Factor.

And if reports today are to be believed, host of the US version of the show, Steve Jones, is in danger of becoming the next victim if audiences don’t start warming to him soon.

Producers are understood to be considering hiring a new co-host to assist the Welsh presenter, 34, in the live shows after Nicole Scherzinger left Jones’ side to take up the vacated judges’ seat when Cheryl Cole was unceremoniously dumped.
