‘Idol’ will move back H’wood week

Apparently, the producers of “Idol” decided shortly after Paula Abdul announced that she was not coming back that the traditional November taping dates for Hollywood Week would have to be pushed back.

“It’s a scheduling issue,” says a show source, explaining that it is Cowell’s schedule more than DeGeneres’ that’s causing the holdup.

A year ago, Anoop Desai was just another face in the madding crowd at the N.C. State Fair — seeing the sights, smelling the smells, eating the deep-fried grub. At the 2009 edition, however, Desai finds himself as one of the attractions, performing Thursday night at Dorton Arena.

What happened in the interim, of course, was “American Idol.” Desai, who sang with the Clef Hangers while studying folklore at UNC-Chapel Hill, had a fine run this past season and made the top seven of the finals (good enough to earn a spot on the annual “American Idol” concert tour). Now he’s in the process of finding out how far that might take him.

Fans who saw Kellie Pickler open Taylor Swift’s Fearless Tour in Greensboro in June witnessed a performance that was confident, poised and mature. It was quite a contrast to the inexperienced teenager who scored a sixth-place finish in the fifth season of TV’s “American Idol.”

Pickler’s talent earned her a recording contract with Nashville’s BNA records, which released her chart-topping debut CD, “Small Town Girl,” in 2006. The album’s title was a reference to growing up in Albemarle, a Stanly County community of 16,000.

Jason Castro just woke up and he sounded a bit groggy yesterday. Nonetheless, he was pleasant and spoke full sentences.

He was in Michigan ready to do his third mall appearance after ones in Miinneapolis and Chicago. He is set to be at the Discover Mills Mall in Gwinnett County October 23 at 6 p.m. for a free concert and meet and greet. (I plan to be there to take pictures.)

McPhee stopped by the PopEater offices to talk about her upcoming album ‘Unbroken’ (out in January) as well as her new single, ‘Had It All.’ “Coming off of the show that I did and making the record as fast as I did, I always just sang. I didn’t develop myself as an artist and know who I was and where I wanted to go,” McPhee tells PopEater about her past. Man charged over Leona

A MAN has been charged over the attack on Leona Lewis, Scotland Yard has confirmed.

Peter Kopwalczyk, 23, was charged today with assaulting the pop star during a book signing in central London yesterday, and sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

The shaken X Factor champ cancelled a one-day promotional trip to Germany today.

Her spokesperson said: “Leona was due to go to Germany today for promo but that has now been cancelled. Leona is obviously shocked after yesterday but is ok.”

The star also pulled out of a planned appearance on BBC1′s The One Show last night.

He may have copped the silver medal in the American Idol Olympics, but David Archuleta is certainly a tried-and-true star. How do I know? Well, he has just gone through that great rite of passage that all successful singers eventually go through: he has released a Christmas album.

Christmas From The Heart is a nice run through some Christmasy hits (“Silent Night,” “Joy To The World”) as well as his famed take on “Ave Maria.” No videos have been released for the holiday platter as of yet. David Archuleta has been in Nashville since last Friday. In fact, on the day his holiday album, Christmas From the Heart, came out, he was in a Nashville studio, working on material for his next album. Wednesday morning, David and I sat down at the studio where he’s been writing with singer-songwriter Joy Williams and working with several of the town’s producers, including Matt Bronleewe and Mat Kearney producer Robert Marvin. (We did not, however, talk about the possible divorce of his parents, because that story didn’t break until today.)

Utah’s ‘Idol’ to speak Oct. 26

Utah’s most famous American Idol will speak about reaching his dreams during the Annual Conference for Women later this month.

David Archuleta will join former first lady Laura Bush, Utah’s first lady Jeanette Herbert and pianist Roger Williams at this year’s conference, which is sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch and his wife Elaine.

“I am so pleased that David Archuleta was able to fit this conference into a demanding concert schedule,” Orrin Hatch said. “He is an unbelievable talent and a special performer who has a great story to share.”

Peabody man suffers fatal heart attack at concert

A Peabody man suffered a fatal heart attack at the Kelly Clarkson concert at Boston University on Tuesday night, Boston University officials said today.

BU spokesman Colin Riley said the 38-year-old man, who was not identified, collapsed during the pop singer’s show at Agganis Arena shortly before 10 p.m.

“An emergency response team was there immediately, they were on site for the concert,” Riley said. An ambulance took the man to Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, where he passed away later that evening. The man is not associated with Boston University.

One week after fractured feet 86′d controversial former House majority leader Tom “The Hammer” DeLay from ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” viewers celebrated by flocking to the dance competition’s Tuesday results show in season-best numbers.

The night before, the DeLay-less Monday performance broadcast also saw a noticeable week-to-week uptick in audience.

All this has to have relieved ABC suits, who had watched “DWTS” lose substantial number of viewers each week this season, putting this edition on track to be the show’s lowest rated since it was first foisted on the American public in the summer of ’05.

Michael Jackson’s Executors Have Poor Taste in TV Dance Shows

But here’s the thing: So You Think You Can Dance would have done a better job. The DWTS professionals are almost all trained in ballroom dancing but don’t necessarily have any experience performing anything resembling Jacko’s unique and eclectic style. Meanwhile, SYTCYD features Wade Robson, who is universally acknowledged as Jacko’s dance-floor heir apparent. SYTYCD has the previously mentioned Paula connection (by way of singing corporate cousin American Idol). SYTYCD is a better freaking show, with better production values, better direction and better stagecraft. To be perfectly frank, the SYTYCD kids are also younger and cooler than the folks on DWTS, and therefore more in touch with the spirit of M.J.’s best work.

Yes, DWTS has higher ratings, and that’s no doubt why Jackson’s reps chose to grant performance rights to Stars, but we’re damn sure that if Jacko were alive today, he’d be hiring his backup dancers out of the SYTYCD troupe before he even glanced sideways at someone from DWTS.

    Well we can’t seem to get of the whole American Idol contestants, so why not add Jordin Sparks to this already stunning list of teen stars. Jordin is a singer/songwriter, and one-time winner of the whole American idol contest. With her recording contract she released her self-titled album, which sold millions of copies, and helped her towards musician fame that she really deserved. Winning the American Idol contest was a huge accomplishment in her life and she was the youngest American Idol winner in it’s short history. Another accomplishment she can add to her list would have to be when she performed the singing of the Star Spangled Banner at the Super-bowl. This woman is not afraid to voice her opinion either and look for her to produce more music and Cd’s as her young years go on.

    Actually, after being played on X-Factor, Daughtry’s (original) version of What About Now reached as high as #6 on UK iTunes about a week ago and charted at #11 on their singles chart. It looks like Simon is fond of giving Idol songs to his UK artists – he gave Leona Kelly’s “A Moment Like This” and now Westlife got Daughtry’s “What About Now”.

    Yes, I got criticized in one the threads for calling him out, and I don’t give a damn about whether or not he has H191 flu. It wasn’t remotely funny.

    I want TFM!!! Not available on ITunes, but I don’t expect that till Tuesday. Grr on iTunes (remember how slow they were to release LLWD to Kris iPass members like myself, apology or not?). But if it’s available on download from amazon.com today, I’m downloading it today. BTW, Adam’s album is not yet available for pre-order, but they usually do it 3 or so weeks before, so *hoping* in the next two weeks.

    lol West Life love doing covers. There biggest hits were Manillow’s Mandy, Buble’s Home and Phil Collins’ Against all odds.
    What about Now is currently on the UK Itunes charts at number 32, it peaked at 4 last week. It’s the second time charting for the song because of being featured in X Factor, a show where West Life’s manager Louis Walsh Is a judge.

    I like West Life too, they do nice covers. But my favourite Irish boyband is still BoyZone. ALso a band that loved doing covers.

    Well, yes I have. Fantasia, who’s still signed with J-Records, is in the touring production of “The Color Purple”, and is still getting good reviews for her portrayal of the lead role. Ruben just released a new album a few months ago, which has seen moderate success on the Urban charts, and he just released a second single from the album a few weeks ago. Taylor, is in the touring production of Grease. Sorry, what was the point of the question?

    Yeah, the cougar’s story is just full of holes..Do we really think David was taking time to meet women on MySpace in the summer of 08 while on the AI tour? Not to mention at the same time he was telling radio interviewers that he was dating KC. Really? Then for the last 9-10 months he’s been zig-zagging all over the country, with some “uber” fans constantly following him, but he was able to keep a super-secret relationship going?

    My take is he probably made the mistake of having a fling with her, and she wanted more, and when she didn’t get what she wanted she’s “embellished” her story to get back at him, and of course make some money in the process. I just hope if there really are pictures they aren’t too embarassing!

And I don’t think or expect David to be an angel, but usually if a famous guy is a total douche with women, he didn’t just become that way overnight and there would be other women coming out with their stories to get their 15 minutes of fame.

    I also agree with you that the dating scene will not be easy for him, because he’ll have a hard time knowing if someone is really interested in him or just wants the attention

    You may very well be right. Ah, love with a rock star…it is a slippery slope. And it could be that both theories are right…Cook as an asshole and “what’s her face” as a media seeking whore. And when the two meet..trouble.

    By the way, Caldwell is a class act in regards to the way she handled the breakup with Cook. :)

    ETA- I am still open to the idea that Cook is the innocent here, but having dated many musicians in my day….the track record for lead singers being sensitive to women…eh, not so good. Next in line for potential dickness are lead guitarists. Drummers..usually the nicest. But that is just my experience

    Oh Spenser, you are forgiven. I know that you must sleep for at least a few hours in order to keep your strength up to push that cart around all day.

    The difference between this story and the David C and Kim Caldwell story is that I think that they had a real relationship not something that was a fling or a made up story. They did a good job of not making it fodder for the tabloids.

IIRC this person admitted to actively disliking Kim yet she said during, I think it may have been the Aerosmith song, reportedly Kim was weeping and looking at him with luuurve in her eyes LOL So yeah I think there was genuine feelings there and makes me respect her a lot more than I did before the relationship. Regardless of what goes on someones past, people grow up. I don’t know what caused the breakup but she had to have a decent amount of respect for him.

    I must not go to the same boards as you because I thought she was hardly a blip. I think when it first came out most people here were like, Go Cook! After all, she’s a very attractive woman.     Delurking because I think LJ was awesome in how she handled it. Sometimes I listen to Elliott in the Morning (don’t judge). She called in after they did a full item on her and the pics the morning before, did the whole “we’re friends, he’s a good guy, we hung out.” Totally got pressed by Elliott (shock) and said “you’ll believe whatever you want” and moved on. FTR, it came off as a complete non-denial denial (and probably rightly so), but she treated it as the non-deal it was. I kinda liked her.

    And that also goes to the guy not being an ass, because she apparently has a history of publicly badmouthing boys who don’t treat her properly. (Although one could argue that anybody would look like a prince after Brendon Urie.)

    See now that’s one of my favorite things ever because for one, it was for me a step in breaking away from the Idol image and we got from that the hilarious “crap I just said FUCK in front of Simon Fuller” moment. Which btw even Simon laughed at it so obviously he wasn’t offended.. I know since then there have been gripes because he occasionally gives the finger in his intro to Kiss On the Neck so I guess the “image” some have in their minds truly never does go away. It can get ugly when those pedestals come crashing down..

    The Lana Jade thing, that was like the best thread ever here! I remember lots of snark, on a lot of the boards the subject was being shut down so I don’t remember much drama but I’m sure it was there in some areas. There were rumors about her and Ryan Star a while back too. As far as I know though she too also handled whatever happened in a more classy way.     That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever read, that thread. I think it was what inspired me to come out of lurkerdom, tbh. It’s very weird being a fan of a Real Person (vs. being a fan of music, or of fictional characters, which is how I’ve spent most of my fannish time on line).

    Fans can get so possessive, over-invested, creepy and just plain weird. It’s not easy to find a place where people can admire/critique the work and have a “whatever” attitude about the rest. Not to mention being able to laugh at the absurdity of it all without being rage-y or hostile. That happens here, for the most part. Thanks mj and your commenters. : )

    I went to the Kelly Clarkson concert last night, she was absolutely AMAZING. She had me in tears singing Because of You and Already Gone, and dancing for her fast songs. That girl can SING, but you already knew that. If you have a chance go see her I drove 2 hours, and it was totally worth it.

    As much as a David A fan that I am, that Wisconsin writer completely lost all journalistic integrity. As a journalism major, this article was disgusting. Sure did the Archies go overboard the other day? Yea, but that does not warrant writing an immature blog cursing them out. That writer should be removed from his/her post asap. A good journalist should be able to take the critics. If you write a negative review, that’s your right but don’t play the game if you can’t take the heat.

    As much as a David A fan that I am, that Wisconsin writer completely lost all journalistic integrity.

    I didn’t find anything wrong with the journalism of that piece. Well the ‘bring it on fuckers,’ at the end, but it an editorial, not a report or review. The person who was writing it pointed out how pathetic the pople who were commenting were being, doing things like even questioning the reviewers name? making personal attacks for a review, etc., and all for a review of a music piece, not anything political or socially controversial. So really all of that vitriol for someone’s opinion, which is their job and they’re allowed to have.

    I mean I get not liking reviews and/or finding them factually inaccurate and/or mean-spirited, and I certainly have complained about some here. But I haven’t gone off to the comments sections of those places that say bad thing about my fave and comment and make personal attacks on them. The only times I’ve bothered to write to reviewers were just to point out their factual inaccuracies, like saying Anoop sang “Georgia On My Mind,” instead of “Always On My Mind,” and that’s about it. This editor wasn’t saying that the people who responded to the review couldn’t do so, function of it. She was just pointing out the absurdity and hollowness of meaning, in the attacks on the writer.

    And it’s not like she was saying that they couldn’t take negative responses to a negative review or editorial. Quite the opposite, in fact.

    If you write a negative review, that’s your right but don’t play the game if you can’t take the heat.

    See, I think she took the heat just fine, and exposed the commenters for the delusional, over-invested fantards that they are.

    It’s fine to post your disagreement in the comments section of reviews. But that’s not what the OTT AI fans do. they post comments riddled with insults, questioning everything about the writer, encouraging the publication to fire them, etc. It’s ridiculous and way over the line. And, they never learn, because they keep doing it again and again. And, the writers and editors then turn the fantards into the story.

    That Editor was right. The review that was posted was nothing more than a critique of a cd. The writer just didn’t like it, but she was not in any way insulting. But the crap left in the comments directed at her? That shit was shameful.

    Bob Dylan is brilliant. A musical poet and lyrical genious.
