BTW '” since when can people tweet from planes? I thought that would be a definite safety no-no' ¦

You can do it while you are still on the ground (prior to push-back). If he's flying business class or better, they start giving you drinks from the moment that you sit down. Or again, some of the planes are internet enabled.

Besides, I see in the pictures that dv posted, he has band-aid on his head. Maybe he got nailed by the ice prior to even getting to the airport. That's some hard-core ice.

Girlygirl, my guess is that he probably wasn't on the plane yet but instead waiting in the airport. I don't think they let people tweet from planes (in the air anyway).

I don't think people are allowed to tweet from their cell phones but if they have a laptop, once you reach cruising altitude you can pay for internet connectivity and surf/post/email/tweet to your heart's content. Not on all carriers, but many.

ETA: That's not to say people don't break the rules. I've seen plenty of people fiddling with their phones (saying they're playing games) so anything can happen. I've heard rumor more than once that the cell phone ban in-flight may be lifted because it really isn't dangerous. *shrugs*

I'd think Adam and Kris could've crossed paths at the airport tonight, given their separate tweets -- except that the international terminal at LAX is a whole separate building. Even though they are both working out of L.A., I don't think they've both been in town at the same time for even one day since tour ended.

(And oh shoot - Kris tweeted he was at the beach yesterday. I wonder which one? I live at the beach -- I wonder if I missed my chance to run into him? Oh well...)

And poor Kris - getting his drink all over him and stuck on a LONG flight to London without much chance to clean up probably. Ice shifts suck -- sippy cups or straws are the way to go when drinking on airplanes!

BTW -- since when can people tweet from planes? I thought that would be a definite safety no-no...

Hey sma11ie, you're a Matt fan, right? Have you seen any vid come out of his charity performance the other night? I'm hankering for S8 Idol news that's not Kris/Adam related.

Dude, I really want to see some new Matt performances too! Especially since he did such a great set. So Small, Chariot, Georgia? Want! But unfortch, I kind of rely on MJ's and the wonderful fans here to feed me my Idol news. I'm rarely the bearer of news here, except maybe sometimes for David Cook-- I do troll around the web on my own for David Cook news, haha.

Susan: Certainly a possibility. But they are NOT going to recoup $250 million in one opening weekend. Let's alter that to $300M, because this marketing blitz will likely tick up to a $50M price tag.

VAlilac: 'Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the buy will cost about $4 million.'
from Sony Pictures to Attempt Unprecedented TV Roadblock to Promote '2012' Disaster Film Variety, THR
http://www.tvweek.com/blogs/tvbizwire/2009/09/sony-pictures-to-attempt-unpre.php

I have no idea how accurate that figure is '“ seems awful low.

Perhaps it's missing a "0". Many industry experts now consider marketing to be the key factor that leads to box-office success. An average marketing budget for a Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) film in 2006 was $34.5 million compared to $25 million in 1999, an increase of almost 40% in seven years. 75% of a typical movie marketing budget goes to advertising with about 40% of the total going for TV media.

In any case, no one could buy 2 minutes of prime time TV on 450 outlets in the US for $4 million. And the marketing budget for 2012 will easily top $50 million.

Some examples: Cars - $53.5 million, Superman Returns - $45.5 million. The biggest budget movie of all time was Spiderman 3 - production $350 million; marketing $150 million - Total $500 million.

They have been promoting 2012 since last November with a viral marketing campaign, strategic leaks of clips and so on. The roadblock kicks off the media campaign. It is designed to breakthrough all the clutter and to create a TV promo that people will want to watch because in the US TV commercial veiwership has dropped termendously. AND to get media buzz and secondary pick-up. And it's already working.

There will be a lot of promotion after the North American media roadblock, the International Roadblock, and the rest of the media campaign.

Regarding starting the promo almost 6 weeks before the movie opens -- the strategy is designed to make the movie a "don't miss" event -- that is why the massive, early promotion.

I love Jim Cantiello's reaction to this Kris-DC twitfest, because perfectly sums up what the fans' reactions have been. Jim's a hoot, he and Slezak make this Idol fan thing so much more hilarious :)

Yes, good stuff! All the intraidol twittering is fun. Cantiello is surely taking notes for his tweetbeat.

Gokey's setlist:

PYT
Heard It Through the Grapevine
Aint too Proud to Beg
What Hurts the Most
I Can Only Imagine
Jesus Take the Wheel
Stand By Me
Life is A Highway
Maria Maria
Smooth
You Are So Beautiful
My Wish

Interesting. Most are songs he sang on Idol or on the Tour.
The additions look to be:
- Ain't Too Proud to Beg -- I'm thinkin' Motown & not Stones ;)
- I Can Only Imagine -- Christian / some country crossover
- Life is A Highway -- covered by none other than Rascal Flatts
- Smooth -- again with the Santana / smidge of Latin

Nothing too twangy fo sho. Seems he's definitely leaning towards a solo Rascal Flatts vibe. Pop message country.

jambajim@thedavidcook @KrisAllen4Real - OMG Idol to Idol advice over Twitter. Brain....exploded. Like ice on my face. Now go download Grizzly Bear!

LOL, ICESHIFT! I love it, Kris is hilarious! I'm gonna have to start using that term now.

I love Jim Cantiello's reaction to this Kris-DC twitfest, because perfectly sums up what the fans' reactions have been. Jim's a hoot, he and Slezak make this Idol fan thing so much more hilarious :)
