But ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a weird reflection of that fact that winning Idol doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem to mean much anymore. Taylor sales have been called subpar for Idol but what is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“parà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  for idol anymore. The days that the winner went platinum easily seem to be finished.

Everything depends on management and record company. You can’t say that about everyone who wins Idol. Taylor’s sales are very good considering he’s an unknown artist and look at who he’s competing against!! The media doesn’t look on the bright side.

As for the Idols playing the country fair, that to me is the downer. What do those gigs pay $1000??? and if you look at the video there’s hardly anybody there.

Now, in contrast look at somebody like Jennifer Hudson who has good rep and is leaving the other Idols in the dust; or look at Kat who got good management and is going into acting. That’s why I say Kellie needs to get it together. She’s got too much personality to be on the country circuit. She needs TV exposure. She needs a big push, but eventually it seems after they go through about 2-3 management companies they bounce back. But sad that such talent has to take to county fairs.

I know people on this message board laugh at Idols who go Broadway, but you know what? — it pays the bill! It’s steady work! I betcha Fantasia is making at least $25,000 a week for the Color Purple.

Lastly — as long as Idol keeps producing Chris D’s, Fantasia’s, Jen-Huds, Carrie U’s and Kelly’s, it will be a viable program. When the winners stop having hit records, can’t find a spot on TV, acting, etc. then that’s a sign the show is losing steam.

Every AI winner has gone platinum with their first album although Taylor is the only one who hasn’t sold 1M units according to SoundScan. Even so, I’m not sure I’m ready to declare a “trend” on the basis of the failure of only one performer to hit certain soundscan levels even considering sales for the industry overall. Jordin just needs a good album and good promotion.
