In an interview from his recent Busch Garden’s concert, David was asked his plans for next year, “New Record, New Tour, New People, New Places”.  Fans were hoping for a fall release. Winter/early Spring would be the next best thing.

‘It’s jealousy’: ex-band manager

Is Joe Perry, Steven Tyler’s Aerosmith bandmate, right, wrong or just plain jealous in saying that if the rock god joins “American Idol” it would be one step above starring in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

According to one who really knows, “This is Steven Tyler’s great opportunity to transition to something he’s always wanted to be: a Hollywood celebrity! And that’s the problem right there.” Ouch.

No, that’s not Perry savaging Tyler again. This time the tough talker is no less than A&R legend John Kalodner, the guy behind Aerosmith, Foreigner, Iron Maiden and Bon Jovi for starters.

‘Idol’ rocker takes on ‘Rock of the Ages’

Constantine Maroulis admits after performing in “Rock of Ages,” a high-energy, ’80s rock opera, he finds it impossible to step down from his cloud of exhilaration. “When I finish the show, it’s hard to go to sleep,” Maroulis said. “I’m so revved up, I stay up all night playing video games.” A finalist on “American Idol,” Maroulis sang a blistering rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” that demonstrated he has mighty vocal chops. “Idol has made some huge stars,” Maroulis said, “but there are some people who aren’t as well known, who have a loyal following. Thirty million viewers is like the Super Bowl. You have to take your opportunity and run with it. I think that’s what I have done.”

After making a name for himself in the national tour of “Rent,” Maroulis performed on Broadway in “Rock of Ages.” Nominated for five Tony Awards, “Rock of Ages” launches its national tour Sept. 21 at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago.

VMA Choreographer Promises ‘Epic’ Moves

“We’ve been working on a couple of numbers for a week now,” he told MTV News inside Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. “This process has been amazing. The stage here, the set is really futuristic and spacey. We wanted to create something epic for the VMAs this year.”

So what all will we see? Wall was tight-lipped, but he did say that he drew inspiration from big, contemporary artists, including Lady Gaga.

yeah, that article struck me.. i got worried…

Well, the article did pick certain examples for dramatic effect. Not everyone’s album sales are that dire. Drake, Kesha, the Beiber, Usher, etc…and that doesn’t include country. There are people moving decent amounts of albums.

That said, DC wasn’t likely to have a platinum album again anyway due to the law of diminishing Idol returns. :D The second album is always a whole new ballgame from the first.

I still would have preferred the fall but as long as I like the album and he gets some attention for his launch I’ll live with it. :D

I have to agree with the ex manager for Aerosmith. Without Tyler, Aerosmith doesn’t exist. Sorry, Perry, but it’s Tyler that the general public associates with the band, not you all.

The funniest part to me was his characterization of Simon as a “nobody” and failed A&R man before he started Idol. LMAO. I wonder if that is how he was really seen?

  • steelbluelily

I just don’t get it with all the Jackie Evancho praise – yes, she’s been gifted with the novelty of a pretty and mature singing voice at a very early age and she’s remarkably calm and steady on stage for her age. But she has very little sense of depth and presentation in her song interpretation – not surprising for someone of her age. Right now she’s a little girl with a surprisingly mature vocal sound who can string a lot of pretty notes together. She may grow into a great singer, but right now she’s just rushing through songs without any real style or interpretation. And that’s a lock for the win? I just don’t get it.

And Travis Wall – YAY! Can’t wait to see what he creates!

David Cook To Release Album Early Next Year?

Boo… sobbing quietly in the corner. Well, it’s not terrible. Early March might be a good drop date… it’s just, selfishly speaking, sooo far off. Whatever will I do with myself until then?

Anoop’s album cover is HIL-arious. Congrats to him, though.

I heard a Joe Perry interview on my local rock station sometime last year, and that guy is… quite full of himself. Not that he doesn’t deserve to be, but I’m not at all surprised by all these comments.

So disappointed Cookie won’t get a release date that takes advantage of the holiday sales. He deserves a good release date and a big album push, after such a successful first album and first headlining tour. Don’t understand why he’s been given second class treatment. makes me sad.

  • justshootme

“I want to use it to buy a pony. . .and help baby seals,” she tells The Post.

I think opera girl is adorable and talented and all, but she comes off so strangely artificial and botlike when interviewed. The kids I’m around just do not talk like that. She seems like a character from a mockumentary on TV talent shows.

And I think Anoop looks kinda cute. I miss his over-the-top funny as shit fan that used to post here. Can’t remember her name, she was hilarious. Wonder what she’d have to say.

I seen comments about Anoop’s album cover and I must have passed it 5x. It bares no resemblance to how I remember him on AI. Now, I would love to see a new Cookie album cover printed here. But from the other posts, it seems like I am wasting my time searching for it. :(

People can’t always assume it’s the record company or managament that’s the problem. None of us know what’s going on and maybe the problem is that they are not getting good material or maybe they are going back and rethinking what type of album to make. It could be that Cook or the record company don’t like what’s been done so far. All I know is this long delay is not an advantage to him. The longer he is not heard from, the more people will forget about him.

Hmmm, weird….I actually kind of like the idea (now) of Cook’s next album being released early next year. If Cook’s Declaration Tour hadn’t lasted as long as it did (and if his songwriting sessions for the new album didn’t start late and go on so long) then he’d have time to deliver an album this fall. You spend time doing one thing, you’ll have less time to do something else. I don’t think RCA is shafting him- well, maybe in picking singles- but not in this particular album delay.

Besides, there were some complaints about how Cook’s previous album was a rush job and there was no time for him to concentrate properly on it. Now Cook is taking a bit of time to try and make a better follow-up album and there are complaints he’s taking too long. Poor guy can’t win.

This is exactly why I’m so sad. David Cook deserves better. can’t imagine what the problems are.

One of the reasons might be, they want to make sure the album has some songs that will fit on the pop stations and get radio play. They want to be careful about not going too far toward the rock side of music.

  • Tess

to make sure the album has some songs that will fit on the pop stations and get radio play. They want to be careful about not going too far toward the rock side of music.

Based on Cook’s tour and his interaction with his band, I would have thought that that he is very interested in being more rock and keeping to that 4/4 time. I have gotten the impression that the man is much more comfortable “fronting” a band and that he, like Daughtry, would rather be part of a group than a solo artist.

I felt that AI kind of threw him for a loop as far as his future was concerned and that he was totally surprised when the AC song “Time of my Life” became such a big hit. Hasn’t he spent almost 2 years trying to divorce himself from the song?

I tend to think the delay is more about re-creating his image into being a rock front man, dropping the AI connection, moving away from pop and top 40 and being the guy he truly wants to be. He has written a lot with his band, per his emails, and seems to want them to be part of the show. This recreation takes time and energy and some really good research and an effective marketing campaign. It will be interesting to see it play out for him.

  • pattycake

I can understand your cynicism but I really think that doing things like performing for our troops are just a part of who Kris Allen is. He went overseas to help out after the tsunami and also went to South Africa to work with AIDS orphans among other places. This was long before he was on American Idol. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t I remember other Idols going on similar trips to perform for the troops? In any case, I salute Kris for doing his part. Good luck, Kris!

  • sma11ie

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t I remember other Idols going on similar trips to perform for the troops?

Lots of Idols have done USO tours: Kellie Pickler, Bo Bice, David Cook, others I can’t think of right now. Lots of celebs do them too.

  • JudyL

I can be pretty damn cynical myself but my cynicism stops when it comes to our troops. The audiences in any pictures I’ve ever seen of our troops at these USO shows look like they’re having a great time and I’m sure these shows are greatly appreciated and really looked forward to. Kris, Gary Sinese and everyone else who does anything to entertain or support our troops is entitled to as much praise and gratitude as we can give them.

  • AllenTX

I bet the trips he did before were not a few days “work” though, but ever since he was on idol, those all turned into a few days fly-in/fly-out PR trip. Well, better than nothing, I guess. Anyway, my previous comment mainly responded to fans’ focus on “coverage”.

  • girlygirl

I posted YT video of the Arkansas Entertainers HOF ceremony in that thread if you want to see Kris’s speech and perfomance

  • girlygirl

    AllenTX

Kris spent more than a week in Rwanda in March. That wasn’t exactly a “fly in/fly out” trip. The only one of those he has done is his quick trip to Haiti in February.

And while I understand your cynicism, even the “PR” type trips help raise money and awareness of things many in the U.S. might not pay attention to otherwise.

And the USO trips have always been pretty much nothing more than morale boosters/entertainment for the troops — ever since the USO started way back in WWII (I think that’s when it was formed, not sure). They aren’t designed to be anythig more than that. But I would bet the troops still appreciate theses shows.

  • Eileen99

I have no idea why there would be an objection to Kris doing a USO Tour, but to each their own. I’m glad he’s doing them for the troops, and am glad (not cynical) for all the celebrities who sacrifice their time to do so. It’s more than I do.

  • Q3

I think it is great that Kris is doing a USO trip, and also I applaud 19 for arranging for many of their artists to these trips. Usually artist do not mix self-promo event with USO trips — it has happened but is rare.

As a PR event, European USO visits generally do not get a lot of press — either in the US or in Europe. Kellie Pickler and Carrie got a lot of press for their trips but they went to combat areas. Kellie had two TV specials about her trip to Iraq including her GMA Diary. She went to combat outposts in a Blackhawk helicopter. Very amazing thing to do for these troops. Carrie went to Kuwait and Iraq. She also got a lot of PR from her trips.

But the other idol alums who have done USO trips haven’t gotten very much press. Daughtry, for example, has preformed for USO shows in the US but that isn’t newsworthy.

Maybe they can have Adam do a show for the troop to celebrate the end of DADT! (She dreams!)

  • wellhesback

USO trips are not good sources of PR – when David Cook and his band went to Iraq very few folks outside of his most ardent fans even knew about it. I’m pretty cynical myself, but I do think that dismissing out of hand every celebritiy’s attempt to do something worthwhile is just unfair.

  • sma11ie

David Cook and his band went to combat areas in January of 2009, pretty much at the height of his popularity post-Idol, and didn’t get much coverage. I believe they were in Iraq and Kuwait, not sure if they hit up other bases. His bandmate Andy tweeted a short video a while afterwards that was pretty cool– looked like they were on some interesting military jets: http://vimeo.com/3899330

I think Kellie’s toured USO more than once. Bo Bice might’ve done it more than twice.

  • oladyrocklover

And while I understand your cynicism, even the “PR” type trips help raise money and awareness of things many in the U.S. might not pay attention to otherwise.

Good point,Girlygirl! I read somewhere that his “flyby” to Haiti raised $250,000. Anything that can raise awareness and dollars for these causes is A-OK in my book.

And Chelsea Handler’s hosting this year? How can you resist that? You know she’s going to make some uncomfortable jokes about SOMEONE in the audience just as the evil producers stick the camera all in their face. Good times people. Good times.

well then I will DVR them :)
I might wanna see Emminem though – guilty pleasure

  • standtotheright

    I must watch this year.

    Florence. And. The. Machine.

    That is all.

  • Mary102

Ahh, talk of the VMAs – I’ll be watching Adam tear it up in NOLA during the VMAs, so I’m excited about that instead :-) (And still not getting over bitterness that he wasn’t nominated, and that we get the likes of Kesha butchering Led Zeppelin instead, but enough of that) lol

  • girlygirl

OT but — I just got tickets to go see Florence and the Machine at the Wiltern in November. Excited!!!

  • ilovekrisallen39

AllenTX well my husband is military and he loves when people gong over there to entertain them.He saw Kelley Pickler over there and loved her to piece. He says that when performers going over there it helps them be able to have fun for awhile and forget what’s happening over there for awhile and also get there mines off of missing there love ones for awhile. So if it is for PR reasons the soldiers don’t seem to mind it.And am thankful for Kris,Kelley etc that go over there to do this for them.

Thanks koshka for your info on Lt. Dan Band! Pretty cool that Gary Sinese, and others like Kevin Bacon, have time to make music in addition to their busy acting careers!

    Jennifer looks gorgeous :)

  • gangreen29

Good for Kris. I can’t imagine their is going to be a ton of publicity…so I would think if that was his motivation he would find something easier here to do lol.

I personally just appreciate whenever people volunteer their time. I work for an organization that is completely dependent on volunteers, so I personally don’t care what people’s motivations are as long as they put in the time and effort.

Quite a fun (no, really), interview with Simon Cowell I heard on the radio this afternoon:

    From 1:34 onwards:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00tmgbq/Steve_Wright_in_the_Afternoon_10_09_2010

He talks about AI, US and UK X Factors, Piers, Subo, Lou Reed, a possible World’s Got Talent, and um, vitamin shots.
Simon is his usual modest and retiring self of course….

  • tierbee

I felt that AI kind of threw him for a loop as far as his future was concerned and that he was totally surprised when the AC song “Time of my Life” became such a big hit. Hasn’t he spent almost 2 years trying to divorce himself from the song?

LOL, Tess, YES, he has definitely tried to make it clear that “Time of My Life” is not who he is as an artist. I mean, yay for his song that will never die but you really couldn’t get further from what you get in the live shows than magic rainbows. Somewhere out there is a video of the show where Ryan Star came on and sang “Time of My Life” to him – and afterwards he pretty much said that he was glad Ryan did it because now nobody will ask HIM to sing it. Heh. He’s a stubborn man, that Cook. I think you’d have to torture him to make him sing it.

But yeah, I think it will be interesting to watch since he really seems to enjoy the band vibe and they really do rock out in the live shows (which does surprise some folks, definitely, who are expecting more of BalladDave).

Funny — Adams Sure Fire Winners used in Asia to promo the Amazing Race and now a German tv cooking (?) show is using WWFM.

@AdamNews_de: German TV show made WWFM to their intro song (more info in the description box): http://youtu.be/AZVksR3p7zU

This very, very sad. One of Adam’s fans was attacked.

  • OhMyRawrrr

Very sad and scary – but I couldn’t help be a little bit bemused. First the gay bar is called BJs and second the tidbit about it taking the guy 15 minutes to stop crying.
I’m not making fun of the victim – I’ve been assaulted – and believe me, it took more than 15 minutes for me to stop crying. I just thought it was kind of “funny” that the writer included that detail in this type of story. The extra about Adam Lambert too. Interesting additions and details.

ETA: Kris seems like such a great person – I commend him for all of the good works he does :D

I actually really like Anoop’s tour poster. It’s young and fun looking. His album cover, though, not so much. Anoop was always one of my favorites on season 8. He has such a pure smooth singing voice. All the best to him!

  • OhMyRawrrr

I like Anoops tour poster too – it’s cute with some personality. His album cover looked like something from the 70s you would now find in a 99 cents bin.

  • Imkhemari

Great to see Lee’s parents in that promo for Arlington Park, they seem really good people. He seems to get his sense of humor from them – when a fan on tour said to Kathy “Thanks for producing Lee” she answered “It wasn’t easy!”

Also good to see them using excerpts from Lee’s pre-idol song “So What Now?” in the AP promo (he sang it there at the May homecoming.)

Sooo looking forward to hearing the new song – hopefully the single will be released to radio very soon!

  • VBstar

LOL–true, OhMyRawrr! Like an old Barry Manilow album cover.

The USO tour is not costing Kris, his management or label much if anything but their time. Here are some USO Celebrity Tour Fast Facts.

  • Zastine4974

Chiming in on the USO tour thing. As a vet of the US Air Force (a long time ago during Viet Nam….yes I’m old) we truly appreciated anytime we could have a show and escape the situation we were in. We didn’t care why celebrities came, just that they came. We didn’t feel as forgotten when they came to entertain us. I will always be grateful to them.

  • http://MJO judes

Zastine you have expressed exactly what this is all about. Kris would not be doing this for the publicity[ he never does] but for what he could give to the troups!! He’s in an enviable position of being able to do exactly what he loves & singing to the troups is a way he can give back! I doubt anybody if asked would say no.

Congrats Kris on your induction to the Hall of Fame. Great rendition of MITM here . Love that he said Katy was the prettiest girl in the room!!
