Kara DioGuardi’s ‘American Idol’ Exit: Experts Weigh In

One of the summer’s most popular parlor games came to a quiet end Friday night when “American Idol” announced that Kara DioGuardi would, as rumored, be leaving the show after just two seasons behind the judges’ table.

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Slezak said — as painful as it is to admit, given his criticism of DioGuardi’s first year on the show in 2009 — if “Idol” was determined to keep one veteran judge on the panel, it probably should have been Kara.

‘Jersey Shore,’ ‘Glee’ Casts To Present At 2010 VMAs

The 2010 VMAs may be going live in Los Angeles this year, but MTV viewers will get a glimpse of Seaside Heights when the cast of “Jersey Shore” appears to present on Sunday. But it’s not all “GTL” at the MTV Video Music Awards: The show just got a bit more “Glee”-ful, as castmembers of the hit Fox show, including Jane Lynch, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer and Amber Riley will also be on hand to present on Sunday.

Dr. Luke: The Billboard Cover Story

It was Sony Music chief creative officer Clive Davis’ idea to give “Since U Been Gone” to Clarkson, but its writer/producers, certain that they had written a rock hit, were initially reluctant. “They weren’t prepared for the casting idea,” Davis recalls. “Max was looking to move on from what he had done with Backstreet Boys, and I really spent time convincing them that an ‘American Idol’ winner could bring all the feeling and passion that was required to the song.”

All of a sudden, though, Gottwald playing guitar on a top 40 song became a much-imitated staple. “With that song and ‘Behind These Hazel Eyes,’ we were able to take Kelly Clarkson to a major seller of albums all over the world where they had never even heard of ‘American Idol,’ ” Davis says. “And on Kelly’s last album, their song ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ really got her back on the winning side of it.

Exclusive: Fox Stages Bones/SYTYCD crossover!

Methinks someone over at Bones is a closet reality TV addict. The Fox hit—which just wrapped production on a Jersey Shore-inspired episode—is now setting its sights on So You Think You Can Dance.

Although not an outright homage to Fox’s summertime sleeper, the episode will take Booth and Brennan into the world of street performers and feature a guest appearance by SYTYCD MVP and burgeoning actor Stephen “tWitch” Boss.

Carrie’s fan club confirms she’s having a webcast/press conference tomorrow at 10 AM. Link TBA. Nobody seems to know what it’s about yet. But a couple fans are reporting she’s scheduled to be on Entertainment Tonight tomorrow too about her “new gig” and I doubt that’s a coincidence.

Hey Carrie fans! Be a part of her exclusive press conference— live tomorrow at 10 am EST! Stay tuned for more info and a link to the live webcast.

From the Billboard article on Dr. Luke

Davis says. “And on Kelly’s last album, their song ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ really got her back on the winning side of it.

Anything I’d say in reply to this would probably get me caught up in MJ‘s filters so Imma gonna bite my tongue. Hard.

“As one of the most proclaimed songwriters in the U.S., Kara brought a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to ‘American Idol,’ “

Nice to see the widely “acclaimed” MTV editors earning their money LOL.

Well based on her many misquotes on Idol, maybe she wrote it herself. ;-)

For the folks on this morning’s headline thread that were interested in Matt’s radio tour, there is a little more information that came to light during the day. This afternoon he was interviewed at WLHT in Grand Rapids (http://www.wlht.com) and sang his original “Baby Girl”, but the interview was taped for a future broadcast. He will be on air on 99.1 WFMK in Lansing (http://www.99wfmk.com/) tomorrow morning during the Danny and Monica morning show between 5:30 and 10 AM EDT — the time is not yet announced but those are typically some time between 7:30 and 8:30 AM EDT. I don’t believe there is more information on Flint, Cleveland, or Chicago. Meanwhile, Jim Brickman has been promoting in other parts of the country, last week in New England. Having both of them promoting seems very useful, especially since they can cover more of the US.

  • MaryS-NJ

Well, I disagree with Slezak about Kara. It’s not just the background that matters if she can’t put it into good practice as a judge. Randy has one last chance to show that he can say more than “Yo, dawg, check it out.” Maybe now that he’s the daddy judge he’ll get serious.

  • fanaround

I keep waiting for Slezak to say something about Allison…

This is like a match made in my dreams. Bones is without a doubt my very favorite scripted TV show, and I love me some tWitch. I feel as though they did this just for me :) .

There’s about 12 new Glam Nation dates posted on Adamofficial for Europe in November – UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Austria.

  • AIaddict

Cute shoutout from Bo and his kids. I wish his career would take off. Good to see Josh Gracin still singing. AI may not produce many superstars but it sure gives the people who are really serious about their music a chance to do what they love for a living.

Yeahhhh!!! I’m so excited for Adam! :-) They dont’ have the New Zealand date (at least I didn’t notice it). I wonder if they’ll add more dates.

Can’t believe they are having him tour Intl right off the bat. Awesome news!

Some info on the UK places:

LambertUK Birmingham Academy 2 capacity 600, Manchester Academy 2 750-1000, Glasgow ABC 1250, Shepards Bush Empire 2000 (All GA Venue`s

Why is Carrie having a press conference? I listened to a few of those clips from the Santana album – Wow. That album is going to be amazing.

  • kingmikol

Daughtry sounds very good on Photograph. The singer doing Whole lotta love is not so good, imho.

Austria? Ohhh. North from Slovenia. I could drive there myself, but who am I kidding, my parents would not let me go alone and they are too old to go with me. Sads, especially because I’m turning 23 soon.

A very long Matt interview from today on WLHT in Grand Rapids was recently posted to Youtube:

In the last 5 minutes he sings “Baby Girl” (gorgeous!) and a brief a capella performance of “My Funny Valentine”.

jpfan: Why is Carrie having a press conference?

It looks like it’ll probably be an announcement of an endorsement or something. Carrie blogged tonight and teased it’d be something “beautiful” and she’s loving how this is one thing her fans haven’t already figured out before she’s allowed to announce it. There was a hint about it a couple weeks ago with comment on Twitter

Our friend Patrick Melville is here from The Patrick Melville Salon telling us about his new “big project” with Carrie Underwood. OOH!

He works with Aveeno so maybe it’s something with them.

Ellen’s having a contest to win tickets to see Carrie on tour.

Fanaround, I thought of Slezak right away when some of the deets about Allison came forward this weekend. And I sure wish I could get to Arlington Park on the 24th. I hope there will be a video or two floating around, especially of Lee’s new song.

  • nabs

hoping for some awesome vids from Arlington!

Me too… it would be epic if Lee sang “Never There” :)

  • springboard

Looking forward to Lee’s new song

Well, I disagree with Slezak about Kara. It’s not just the background that matters if she can’t put it into good practice as a judge.

Yes, and there must be dozens of people from the recording industry who would be able to give insightful feedback about the performances.
It’s not enough to make a good judge though. They need the right personality, wit, charisma, and that’s what was missing with Kara.
Randy, despite his flaws, has more charisma and also is the only link will the old team. I think it was the right decision for both, although Randy must seriously step up his game this year.

  • artemis

So excited about Lee’s new song-I wish I could be there! I guess this will be his single?

  • standtotheright

It looks like it’ll probably be an announcement of an endorsement or something.

I think she’ll be announcing that she’ll be dueting with Cee Lo on “F*** You” at the CMAs.

    Hee.

  • AIaddict

Allright! a new Lee song. The new single, maybe?

  • Q3

One of Adam’ dancers, Terrence, tweeted that they will be in Finland on 11/6/10. So there are more European dates to come.

TerrenceDlibra: Yes we’re in Finland on Nov 6th. Cant wait. We will be traveling internationally starting Sept 24, Going Everywhere! Glamnation Wolrd Tour! about 2 hours ago via web

Also posted same thing on his Facebook page.

I think she’ll be announcing that she’ll be dueting with Cee Lo on “F*** You” at the CMAs.

One of the funniest things I have read here in a long time. Thanks for the laugh!
