One thing I would like to see him do is something a bit more off-beat.

I do think that TPTB are going to play it more mainstream on this first album (and as long as they let Adam be as melodic and beautiful and interesting as possible within those confines, I can understand that), but I’m hoping that the collaboration with Sam Sparro might yield something a bit offbeat.

I’m late to this discussion, but I love the Scissor Sisters! I had no idea for the longest time that they weren’t super-famous here in the US because everyone in my circle during high school was crazy about them.

My even later weighing in, I love them too. Got hooked on their Filthy and Gorgeous, which is a totally rocking tune to dance and/or work-out to and I have this Blondie/Scissor Sister “Good Boys,” remix is another long time fave. And my older friend even liked their Comfortably Numb, which I wouldn’t think he would, because he is crazy about Pink Floyd and their version is very…not. But like AI the past few years, guess the magic was in the rearranging. So yeah if Kevin Gillette had been describing Adam’s upcoming album as having some Scissor Sister vibe to it, I would have totally got what he meant and been pretty happy musically. But worried commerically because inexplicably they aren’t that popular here, same as with Muse. America? disappoint.

I just remember that when the ontd_ai people were squealing over his myspace, Scissor Sisters was one of the bands he listed under “favorite artists.” He hasn’t mentioned them specifically, but that myspace went right up until he went on idol, so my guess is that what he said there still reflects his taste. And since I love them so much and they don’t get enough attention in the US, that made me very happy to see.

And, I would’ve never watched season 7 but for the TV writer’s strike. I had been off American Idol through season 6. I just thought that the two finalists were subpar in comparison to Melinda Doolittle, who I think is the best singer to ever come out of Idol. She never made a misstep.

Anyway, I DID begin watching AI again in 2008 and, at first, I was totally sucked into the pretty that was Luke Menard. I just voted for him to keep him on my screen, but after David’s “All Right Now” in the semis, I felt I was looking at a talent — in David — who so reminded me of the great rockers of my youth, that I was immediately taken. So, he had me BEFORE Hello. He has the potential to be one of those solid, all American rockers who last decades and become a touchstone, like Springsteen.

And I’ll join the chorus of those ambivalent about AI until discovering David Cook — except for “ambivalent” read “thoroughly indifferent” (with a side order of “really disliking what I’d seen of Simon” ::waves to aga::).

I’m so glad that liking DC so much got me inclined me to watch this year, so I could discover Allison.

I don’t know what influences Adam will use on this particular album or what TPTB will let him use, but FWIW, Adam has mentioned Scissor Sisters as one of his favorite bands.

That was me ‘“ ambivalent about AI, until I happened to catch an episode with an extemely likable, talented, attractive singer (Cookie!) on some random day in Season 7, and my life changed.

That was me too. I couldn’t watch AI before becasue I couldn’t stand Simon’s cruelty. My kids still make fun of me about how I hated AI before and how I love AI winner David Cook now.
