Jordin Sparks Injures Hip, Temporarily Out of In the Heights

Jordin Sparks, who recently joined In the Heights as neighborhood sweetheart Nina, suffered a hip injury during the August 28 evening performance. Sparks finished the remainder of the show, but did not go on for either of the August 29 performances. Her injury has yet to be officially diagnosed, and no return date for the star has been announced.

Nashville Celebrates Wynonna

Dignitaries, community and music industry leaders came together Tuesday night to celebrate Wynonna Judd with the Cecil Scaife Visionary Award for her humanitarian contributions to the local, national and international community.? ?

A power packed room at the Tennessee Governor’s Residence gave tribute to the big-hearted star. Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen and First Lady Andrea Conte, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and wife Ann Davis, music icon Mike Curb along with wife Linda, joined 2009 American Idol finalist and Sony/RCA artist Danny Gokey, music industry and civic leaders Tony Brown, Connie Bradley, Hal Cato, and Harry Chapman in paying tribute to Wynonna for the countless charitable endeavors championed through her personal mentorship and support.

The event proceeds will fund a scholarship awarded in Wynonna’s name to a Belmont student studying for a career in the music industry.? ?

“There was electricity in the air as Danny Gokey sang to Wy, one of his idols, and a lump in the throats of the audience throughout the evening as we had the honor of celebrating one of Nashville and the world’s most beloved stars, this time not for her one of a kind talent, but for her one of a kind heart, ” said event Chairperson Pamela Davis Needham.? ?

In a way, Taylor Hicks is back where he started.

Hicks, the fifth American Idol winner, is again an independent artist, performing in clubs and casinos.

It’s a far cry from winning TV’s top-rated singing competition and being named People magazine’s Hottest Bachelor in 2006.

New ‘Dancing With The Stars’ cast: ‘Dirty Dancing’ with Mrs. Brady, The Situation and Rick Fox’s hair

We spoke with “Dancing With The Stars” senior producer and head of casting Deena Katz about how she selected her dirty dozen. Among the tidbits she shared: The first two contestants to sign up were Warner and Patridge, she has asked Hasselhoff and Grey to participate on the show every season since the first, and she considered Palin and the Situation longshots, but they were quickly interested.

Axed X Factor contestant Shirlena Johnson may get a reprieve and a chance to return to the show.

Simon Cowell and producers dropped her from the series after it a medical report and the show doctor said she may not be able to able to cope with the stress of the show.

But last night Cowell admitted he felt his hands were tied and was investigating if there was anyway to bring her back.

Jackie Evancho’s voice strikes a chord

It’s been nearly three weeks since 10-year-old Jackie Evancho took the nation’s breath away on NBC’s ” America’s Got Talent.” Her version of “O Mio Babbino Caro” from Puccini’s opera “Gianni Schicchi” brought the house down and assured her a place in Tuesday night’s semifinals.

And sure enough, within minutes of her performance, the Internet was alight with people insisting the young girl was lip-synching. The rumor mill was running at such a furious pace that on the next evening’s results show judge Howie Mandel asked Evancho to sing a few notes on her own to prove it was really her voice that audiences were hearing.
