Kris did that a lot. There are several of his studio recordings that bear little resemblance to what he did on live TV.

While I'm sure that's part of it, I also think that part of it was the time constraints studio versions and their cheapness. Plus a tendency to bandzilla things just as a general rule, be it in the studio or on the road. The Heartless studio version, for example, does nothing for me, because they decided to add all this soft rock band shtuff to it. Whereas the live version works for me, because of how stripped down it was. ToMT was another one that worked live as well as it did, due to how stripped down it was, but studio version couldn't resist adding stuff to it and for me (for you), taking away it's magic. They took the live torch song of IICHY and made it into some generic 80s ballad in the studio, and again, took away the magic I got from it live. And I could go on an on about the live versions that I loved for Kris, Adam and Allison that got their life essence sucked out of them, like a Podling looking at the Dark Crystal (yes, I am that much of a geek).

So not taking away Kris's rearranging skills here, which again, are excellent and really interesting to read in this article his thought process on. But I suspect the problems with the studio SWHFTM are part of the larger problem with the studio versions from AI as a whole. Just my take on it.

But hating the song as I do, is another reason I liked Kris's version of it so much, because not only was it just good period, but it was especially good given how crappy the original song was. Well live it was good, the studio version once again, didn't resemble the live version and sucked.

Brian Mansfield of USA Today, reported that Rickey Minor told him that Kris did two more major overhauls of the song between the time it was recorded on a Saturday, and then performed on Tuesday.

Kris did that a lot. There are several of his studio recordings that bear little resemblance to what he did on live TV.

Truthiness - curious - SWHFTM not 'disco to begin with' - what was it then? I remember it being played in dance clubs in the early 80's (okay, a little post disco).

It was generic early '80s crap, is what it was. Sorry. Can you tell I don't like the song? But if they played in a club, cool, I would hope it would be a remix version. But the song itself is not disco, disco was dead in 1981 and it was especially dead for the singer of SWHFTM, recorded in 1983, Donna Summer. Donna didn't sing disco at that time and renounced it all as part of her born-again stuff.

And in today's episode of How the Cook Turns...

The only thing missing from the mix of Page Six, DC, the probable GF and her improbable, um, assets is one of Kyle's patented, mis-timed rim-shots. Bwah!

As for twitter, I don't even follow my own friends on twitter, but I might make an exception for... not DC, actually, but for Wolfgang. (And Wolfgang should SO be a guest on A Ficus Flows Between Us. Great suggestion, sma11ie. Heh!)

As for David, I'm also a little sad that he caved, but reading these threads lately has made it very clear what a useful promotional tool twitter can be (while still being the devil). And people in the public eye need to use promotional tools, so. If he keeps it on a mainly professional level -- or even on a random, funny level that is anything but personal in that DC-ish sort of way, it should be okay. I hope.

Okay, David Cook interviewed a rubber chicken and now Stephen Colbert is interviewing a dining room table. Is this a trend?

Pretty sure the inspiration for Colbert interviewing a dining table is this Barney Frank confrontation with a constituent re health care reform: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYlZiWK2Iy8

DC probably wasn't the one who twittered what he has thus far. But whoever it is (likely an admin at DCO) posted all of, what? 3? 4 posts? It has also only been up for, like, 8 hours or so.

What I'm trying to say is DC will likely do plenty of tweeting. It's pretty early.

From Alex Wagner-Trugman's Twitter:

congrats to all the idols on the east coast for being free from their 'slavetracts!' (copyright @junotjoyner ) three more hours for me!

What makes that so funny is without that SLAVETRACT we wouldn't even know he tweeted that.

you have to look at Andrew's twitter (ACookofficial), which says:

about 6 hours ago from web

that sounds like real brotherly snark and aggravation right there.

Looks like 19's contractual hold on the unsigned contestants ends today. It would explain why Danny can't say anything about his presumable signing just yet if it's not with Sony.

Chris Daughtry is following that same Carrie account too which I'm almost positive is fake. Weird.

Even if DC isn't actually tweeting everything himself I'll be shocked if he's not going to read some comments and I'd bet anything he'll have loggin access and can step in if he wants to do anything on there. I know his MySpace is run by RCA but he does have access to it and posted some blogs there himself.

And they were both did very different takes of disco on disco night. Though forget about shopping in the ladies department, I wish someone on the panel would have mentioned that SWHFTM was never a disco to begin with.

Truthiness - curious - SWHFTM not "disco to begin with" - what was it then? I remember it being played in dance clubs in the early 80's (okay, a little post disco).

I liked this part of Kris' interview better than the first two parts - he elaborated a little more and I learned some things I hadn't heard in other interviews.

While I thought ANS was great, "Falling Slowly" (because it was an unusual choice and he sung it so beautifully) and SWHFTM were early standout performances. SWHFTM was a genius move, IMO. If the song had been done like that before, I certainly had never heard it. If Adam pushed for Disco Week as Kris said - it was ultimately manna from Heaven (no religious pun intended) for Kris. I completely understood what Paula was saying in her critique. Women often sing songs made popular by men, but the reverse is rarely true. While the night worked out well for Adam too, I think Kris really advanced his case on Disco night (he's also a good little dancer).

This segment of the interview he does mention Adam quite a bit, but I would expect that. They were roommates and did finish the competition together. Only 14 other people have shared that experience (and everything that comes after it) - and many of those 14 were not really friends. The finale of this season would not have been as satisfying with any two other competitors.
