ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) – The American Idol crew was back in Atlanta Sunday. Idol hopefuls lined up for a chance to become contestants on FOX’s hit TV show.

Judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and Simon Cowell were joined by celebrity judge Mary J. Blige at the W hotel in midtown Atlanta.

Ryan Seacrest was also on hand for the Atlanta auditions.

More Idol Headlines after the JUMP…

‘Idol’ champ is far from idle

All Kris Allen wanted yesterday was a cup of coffee, but finding one in Hartford, where the reigning ‘American Idol” champ was performing last night with his fellow finalists from the show’s eighth season, was harder than expected. ‘Nothing is open on Sunday in Hartford,” he lamented. The Arkansas native (inset) did come to realize that perhaps the world was telling him to take a little break. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter could certainly use one given his insane touring-recording-promotional schedule. Having successfully achieved caffeine satisfaction at a Japanese restaurant, Allen was fully prepped to discuss the ‘American Idol” tour (coming to the TD Garden tomorrow), his as-yet untitled upcoming album (due in November), and the departure of Paula Abdul from Fox’s popular talent contest.

Paula A’s Plan B

Sources close to Paula Abdul say even though “Dancing with the Stars
” ain’t gonna happen, she’s still talking to ABC about a show of her very own.

As we first reported, Paula met with ABC honcho Steve McPherson earlier this week and now we’re told one of the cards on the table is a possible variety show. And we’re told they also discussed a talent competition with Paula in the Simon Cowell seat. Sources say Paula also talked about her desire to become the executive producer.

And there’s this little tidbit. We’re told Paula’s feelings about being “disrespected” by “Idol” execs is more intense than ever after learning Victoria Beckham pulled in a fortune — reportedly $275,000 an episode.

But sources say she’d still come back to Simon — if the price ($10,000,000 a year) is right.

Q&A with road warrior David Cook, Season 7 winner

To give you an idea just how thorough a concert tour “American Idol” Season 7 champion David Cook is in the midst of, try finding Lewisburg, W.V., on a map. Tough, huh?

That’s where Cook, 26, was on Saturday afternoon when we chatted by phone. He was preparing for a show at the West Virginia State Fair, his 101st concert since his Declaration tour began last Feb. 14.

That tour brings the rocker/songwriter to Seattle for the first time a week from today, when he’ll be playing the Showbox Sodo (8:30 p.m. Aug. 24, $25, ticketmaster.com).

Cook, Archuleta still buddies

It’s been almost 15 months now and David Cook still doesn’t get it. He doesn’t get the contrived rivalry between himself and American Idol competitor David Archuleta.

‘We always felt that it was funny when we were on the show,’ Cook told IdolChatter, ‘that everyone tried to create this ‘David vs. David’ thing. We just didn’t get it.’

The two Davids were the last contestants standing on AI Season 7 and Cook won on May 21, 2008 with 56 percent of the vote. Today both Davids on their concert tours and doing quite well.

Mishavonna Henson says she’s a country girl at heart

Mishavonna Henson might have grown up in southern California. She might have sung ‘Drops of Jupiter’ in the Idol semifinals.
But she’s a country girl at heart.

The switch to four judges was kind of weird. I’m not going to lie. I liked Kara at first and then, I’ll be honest, she just got kind of obnoxious. I feel like everybody was just saying the same thing over again. She does have some good advice. But, well, she’s not my favorite, that’s all I’ll say. I liked Simon the best. It always seems like his advice is best. Even though he didn’t like me, which kind of made me sad. But that’s OK.’

Catfight! SYTYCD’s Mary Murphy Digs Her Claws Into Paula Abdul

Everyone’s favorite shrieking judge is calling out little ol’ Paula Abdul.

“She might be sitting next to me this season, you never know,” So You Think You Can Dance’s Mary Murphy told E! News at the opening of the new L.A. resort Terranea last night. “I’m not sure America’s ready for that.”

While we definitely agree with that sentiment (Paula’s mindless blabber mixed with the pitch of Mary’s squeal’”can you imagine?!), the SYTYCD judge took it a step further on the Paula front:

David Archuleta wins Idol runner up popularity poll :thumbup_tb:

After a week of voting, David Archuleta has won the West Palm Beach Television Examiner’s poll that asked readers who their favorite American Idol runner up was: Adam Lambert, David Archuleta, or Clay Aiken?

The boy who got to the Idol final with David Cook last year won with 50% of a total of 288,612 votes at 12.00am EST on Monday, August 17th. Clay Aiken followed with 35%, and Adam Lambert with 15%. The system, controversial and criticized by some of the participants, emulated the one in American Idol and gave voters a time limit, but no limit on how many times each of them could vote.

David Archuleta’s new album Christmas From the Heart recently became available for pre-order.

MJ, maybe I am misreading something, but has it actually been confirmed that the song Adam recorded WILL be on the soundtrack? I ask because I know that it’s quite common for a number of artists to record songs for soundtrack consideration, but not all of them end up included. I’ve read nothing but positive stuff so far about Adam’s song, but, that doesn’t mean it will ultimately end up making it onto the soundrack.

Boston Globe Kris’ interview is interesting and fun. I would love to hear what Kris and Salaam Remi put together — as long as it isn’t some of Kris with “broken-bottle” reggae ala Amy Winehouse. My guess is that they were hoping for a Jason Mraz light reggae number — now that could be fun. My bet – this song “experiment” doesn’t make the album.

Congrates to David, but I don’t know what a vote as many times as you want online popularity poll really says about their relative popularity. All that has to happen is that a fanboard or two gets behind the poll and that Idol wins the vote — a lot like Mr. Twitter competitions.

    A quickie Wiki bio:

Martin Karl “Max Martin” Sandberg (born February 26, 1971) is an ASCAP-awarded and Grammy-nominated,[1] Swedish music producer and songwriter. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and is best known by his pen name Max Martin. Breaking through as a producer and songwriter in the mid 1990s, he has crafted a string of worldwide hits for pop artists like Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, *NSYNC and Pink among many others.

His trademark during the second half of the 1990s and early 2000s was a danceable, piano/synth-laden pop sound that blended music styles such as funk, heavy metal and europop. However, with Kelly Clarkson’s hits “Since U Been Gone” and “Behind These Hazel Eyes”, which propelled Max back into the spotlight in 2004, he reinvented himself with a new pop rock sound. Since 2008, he has written and co-written four #1 hits including “So What” by Pink, “Hot N Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry, and Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You”.

Awesome, “Since U Been Gone” is one of my favorite Kelly songs.

Max Martin and Adam is exciting news! I don’t think he mentioned working with him before.

Max Martin is a Swedish music producer and songwriter who mostly works in NY. His is a synth-pop master – andhas done hits for Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, NSYNC, Kelly Clarkson and Pink among many others.

Since 2008, he has written or co-written four #1 hits including “So What” by Pink, “Hot N Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry, and Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You”.

After a week of voting, David Archuleta has won the West Palm Beach Television Examiner’s poll that asked readers who their favorite American Idol runner up was

Having been to Archie’s fan sites a few times in the distant past I am sure the giddy fanners had a field day with this one. I have never witnessed a fan group that can stimulate voting like this. I mean it isn’t 10 or 20 votes….these guys can post thousands of votes each…they do it for every online poll imaginable. When they say David A. has the most frenetic fans…that is the truth.

But they love their guy, and that is awesome. And if they think that keeping his name alive in these useless and slightly absurd polls is helping his status as a legit performer in this dog eat dog world, then great. Personally I think it is time to pull back a bit…David has enough talent to succeed on his own. Besides the polls are only there to increase hits for a web site and Archie’s fan really know how to do that!

  • HappyDaisy

It’s just a fun poll, nothing more. Shows that Archie’s fans are active, loyal supporters. I didn’t even know about the poll or I might have thrown some votes his way. He deserves all the favorable publicity he can get. I hope he gets much more when his Christmas album is released. Archie is not only super talented, he radiates a special blend of joy/peacefulness that is contagious. If you have ever met him in person, you know exactly what I mean. Cook knows.

I got an email from somebody who had been posting here for awhile who said after viewing the video, she’d no longer be posting because she could no longer support Adam.

Er…I seriously cannot even begin to comprehend that reaction. There was a bit of suggestive dancing. A scantily clad, wiggling male botton for a few seconds. A hint at what could develop into a blowjob, which only a kid who already knew what a blowjob was would pick up on. Basically, pg-13 at worst. So, what could possibly be awful and shocking enough to cause someone who liked Adam (through things like the RS interview?) would decide to jump ship? I mean, he’s certainly better off without such fans, but it’s just really weird to me. Maybe it’s a generational thing, but I was watching much “worse” stuff that that when I was 13 and it did not warp my impressionable young mind. It just seems so OTT anti-sex.

Those are great news! All of those are extremely catchy songs, specially Hot N Cold, my personal guilty pleasure.

I personally didn’t find anything offensive about Cassidy’s video, I might be too open-minded, or maybe I just haven’t got the “mom” perspective. I found the song extremely catchy, and something that after months of supporting Adam, I would expect him to like. To me, his Idols Live WLL is much more hardcore than that.

It’s a shame that he lost a supporter and a poster on this site, I have the feeling you need to be open-minded if you expect to embrace the music, videos and shows that Adam puts out in the future. I don’t think they will be aiming for people under 16 for his audience. I might be wrong, it’s just a feeling.

BTW, nice article MJ, those are the kind of articles that I usually show my mom so she can get her Adam news.

  • Tess

I don’t know if Adam has the greatest PR person in the world or if the guy just walks under a lucky star (falling into the butter, as my Mom used to say).

There is always a little “tid bit” out there that helps keep Adam’s name in the online news.

I am sure that lots of “newbies” in the biz would love the interest that Adam has generated….and he continues to keep his fans (and a few non fans) on the edge of their seats in anticipation.

Hard to believe anyone with any knowledge of Adam hasn’t breezed by a Zodiac performance at some point and know he has some avant-garde tastes and friends. Oh, they’ll be aiming for that demographic, big time (and every other demographic, age-wise). It’s just that probably 90% of people under 16 watch stuff more risque than that video on a daily basis, so Adam’s music really isn’t going to shock their delicate sensibilities. :)

  • Valentin432

Max Martin is a huge name, he has written and produces some of the most successfull pop songs in the last few years.

It just confirms further more that RCA is giving Adam the 1st class treatment, they are really trying to make him into the first huge male pop artist out of Idol.
This is shaping out to be the biggest new artist release in the past few years. Congrats to Adam!

  • suebrody

Yay for Adam and MJ for the article publication!

I just wonder, tho, if Adam is spending so much time traveling and recording tracks that he is possibly injuring his voice. Reports of laryngitis are wide-spread and some say that he is not hitting any high notes in the concert anymore. Ain’t that the truth? I was channel surfing at a hotel one night and stumbled upon some hip hop video channel. I COULD NOT believe it was on commercial television. I kept checking to see if I had stumbled onto Cinemax or something. The video I saw was dang close to X-rated.

that the Salaam Remi collaboration was an experiment that didn’t work out

Really? I didn’t pick up on that, maybe because Remi has been mentioned in several other articles about Kris recently. If he’s not going with Remi, then I wonder who his producer is? I know Kris likes to be secretive, but c’mon now. :)

  • girlygirl

Both Adam and Kris have been run ragged since the AI tv show ended — and so has Allison to a lesser degree. All of them have been looking exhausted of late and all of them have had some vocal issues. Maybe it’s not only Adam who needs to be allowed to take a step back right now? Aside from the one day in Atlanta, has either Adam or Kris even had a day off since tour started? I don’t think so…

  • http://twitter.com/baxtelf baxterlf

I don’t believe Adam is aiming for the teen audience so anyone expecting that might be shocked. The video in question is smoking hot and a good song but it is very adult orientated. Other artists I follow also tweet their friends vidoes/songs and they are rarely for the under 18 crowd. It should not be expected that Adam has to cater to the the kiddie crowd just because he was on American Idol. His career path now should be his own.

good for adam for staying true to what he likes and not apologizing for it. he was supporting a friend and also promoting music that HE likes. he is a 27 year old man. it isn’t his job to censor his life so that it is appropriate for kids and tweens, and he shouldn’t have to. if you dont like it or dont find it appropriate for your kids, that is your role as a parent. and in the words of adam lambert “go listen to that guys music”.

it may mean a loss of some fans, but i think adam would rather be who he really is rather than a disneyfied version of himself. and i know it often isnt, but shouldn’t it be about the music? we let popstars who make mediocre music get away with MUCH more (im looking at you britney), and adam (someone who can actually sing) loses fans for recommending his friend’s video? with what? a little leather and the top of butt cheeks? the horror.

i agree with alxsavage… it may take more of an open mind to be a fan of adam’s, but only if you require something of your artists beyond the music that they make. although im guessing his music may push some buttons as well… we’ll see. im proud to be an adam fan either way. i find his authenticity inspiring.

Adam seems to have a good attitude about it. Here’s another tweet from him: AdamlambertHahaha. I’m completely enjoying this. It’s hilarious. That’s why I retweeted her ignorant twat. ;)

Adam doesn’t seem to let people get to him that much. Thats the way to be! Just keep being you. If people don’t like you, well then, thats their loss. lol

I just wonder, tho, if Adam is spending so much time traveling and recording tracks that he is possibly injuring his voice. Reports of laryngitis are wide-spread and some say that he is not hitting any high notes in the concert anymore.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Adam himself or anyone connected to the tour never said he had laryngitis. Every report I’ve read this rumor have been internet based. Adam did say the doctors put him on vocal rest, but that doesn’t mean he has laryngitis. It could be so that his voice stays in tip top shape to record. I’m sure thats another reason why he doesn’t hit the high notes every concert. Its not that he can’t, its because he dosen’t have to, and he wants his best to be on his recordings. I seriously doubt he would be recording if he had laryngitis.

I wonder if Kris has an actual day off, or maybe a co-write session in Boston?

If it is a for real day off, I am going to give the credit to Jim Cantiello. His ‘strict no sleep schedule’ line was one of the best ever, IMO.

MJ, you live in a great city. Went there a couple of years ago for a week and wish I could have spent a month there. Was there for 4th of July but couldn’t get down to the esplanade, so drove down to plymouth and watched the fireworks over the water. It was fabulous, I’d love to go back. My best friend’s daughter leaves Albuquerque to attend Boston University tomorrow, I’m hoping to tag along on a future trip, I loved it.

I hope the Idols have a great time there! I wish Adam could enjoy it too, or at least enjoy the inside of a hotel room and get some rest. They are running both he and Kris ragged.

David Archuleta wins Idol runner up popularity poll

I know it’s just a silly unscientific poll, but it did create a headline. Any little bit of positive buzz is good for his career. And it’s not like he wins every poll there is. There was one just yesterday that I ran across where Cook won. If I can find it again, I’ll post it.

Both of those would be the coolest thing ever.

Great writing on the NY Post article MJ – congratulations! I think you should offer tutorials to the many who possess lesser talent – considering the number of them it could be quite profitable for you! :)

Kris’ article was great to read also this morning since he added a new name or two to his album mentions! :)

I just wondered because he never takes a day off, and it seems the other Idols, including Kris, do (which is a GOOD thing!). He has also said a couple of times that he hasn’t felt well. Going from Hartford to NYC to Boston isn’t exactly restful. But it’s not as if doesn’t have doctors watching him, and I was never a huge fan of the glory notes, anyway. ;-) (And yes, I’m being a little selfish, b/c I will see him tomorrow!)

BTW, it seems as if “Marilyn,” the woman who is upset, got rid of her tweeter account. HA HA.

I have no problem with Cassidy video, I just wished Adam could have just blocked the woman’s twitter account and not exposed her to the fury of his most ferocious fans.

If the woman was a normal twitter user who sent a tweet to Adam, I could see just blocking her, but this woman obviously signed up for a twitter account just to send these messages to Adam, so I think it’s fair that she learns a bit more about what can happen on twitter when you do something like that.

If I’m wrong correct me please, but Adam himself or anyone connected to the tour never said he had laryngitis.

THIS. This “laryngitis” stuff is all just rumor and speculation born of Adam’s many worrywart fans.

I personally think he’s just taking precautions to preserve his voice to PREVENT any damage. I also think he’s just pacing himself so his voice can make it through the tour and recording in good shape.

  • AllenTX

I like that Adam doesn’t censor himself to pander to his fans. I don’t get why Cassidy’s video should be problam for under 16. Are there really any under 16 kids out there will still be shocked at that video, if they’re old enough to make any sense of it.

  • Mary102

Yeah, I don’t think he has anything as serious as laryngitis, just judging by the singing and speaking in the latest tour vids. His voice, especially talking, would sound seriously hoarse if that were the case, and he sounded pretty normal to me. But here’s hoping he just rests it as best he can, even when recording (imo, though I know session work can last awhile in a studio, I would think singing live for the tour would be more taxing than recording songs, especially just in demo format).

  • Margaux

It will be fun to read the Boston tweets, just hope they get real boston North End or seafood instead of Hard Rock and Cheers. I’m still watching for the good seats to drop on ticketmaster. well, if we are just going to support Adam based on his lifestyle, I wouldn’t be a fan either….but I am a fan because he said he wants to sing for us and he didn’t disappoint on that…. his fantastic voice and edgy persona with a smile, he won me on those! And not just me but the industry as well, look at all the love he is getting from the media and some producers/artists…the only negative stuff he gets are mostly from the fans themselves…

The Max Martin’s new is great! I like all his recent songs mentioned in wiki. And the 2012 rumor being picked up by main media add more buzz as well. Congs to Adam and MJ.

No offense to Adam or his fans, but he never should have won that Mr. Twitter vote. He doesn’t tweet all that often in comparison to most of the other Idols (or in comparison with most of the non-Idols who were nominated). Archie or Kris or Matt G or Sarver would have been far more deserving winners. They tweet more frequently, and their tweets are very entertaining. But it is a silly contest that doesn’t really mean anything, so I guess I shouldn’t really complain about it, should I? No — I shouldn’t. Ok, I’ll shut up about that now.

Meanwhile — anyone know where in Boston Kris could find a unicorn? Preferably one named Algernon?

    Gabrielle_89 tweeted Kris this:

#All I want from life is a DM from @Krisallen4real. That, and a unicorn named Curtis. Whatever comes first.#

    He DM’d her in reply:

#I’ll see what I can do about the unicorn. Don’t like the name Curtis though. How about algernon?#

Thanks for the link! Now I get it. Not only are there 2 guys making out, but the video references god and the devil and the song is called Whiskey In Churches. Twice the sacriledge, 3 times the fun! LOL.

I totally get why that might freak a few people out. Especially since he sent it in a link with no warning, so an unsuspecting person could click on it. And one of them might be YOUR KID – DUN DUN DUN!!!!!! lmao.

I am not offended by the video myself. I do think the song kinda sucks though.

    Seattle Times Q&A with DC

    A couple of answers

@SuzanneEliza: Do you think you and David Archuleta (Season 7 runner-up) will be friends 10 years from now?
DC: “Well, unless David opts out of it, sure. he’s a fantastic guy. I imagine we’ll be friends for a long time.”

    Aww Archie

@serene_yip: Ask David about how he felt about singing with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert (Season 8 winner and runner-up) at “Good Morning America.”
DC: “Hats off to Kris and Adam for doing a great job on that with so little practice time. We ran through that song only once without cameras, and they did great.”

  • Tess

It will be fun to read the Boston tweets, just hope they get real boston North End or seafood instead of Hard Rock and Cheers.

Michael, Matt, and Danny (maybe Scott) don’t seem like the type of guys that have an affinity with good food. As long as it’s a lot and familiar they seem to be very happy….they seem to be content with the “chains” because it is safe and predictable. Kind of a reflection on their personality as a whole.

Silly me….but I am “snooty” enough to measure a person by the type of restaurants they eat at, what they order, and what they drink. If it Bud or MGD they are way down on the totem pole…but if its a speciality amber ale or a nice dark lager they move up the scale. And if it’s a hamburger, medium, with the usual…boresville. But a chef’s special with fish of the day with a fine reduction and asparagus and new potatoes…good job.

  • isisdagmar

I don’t believe Adam is aiming for the teen audience so anyone expecting that might be shocked. The video in question is smoking hot and a good song but it is very adult orientated.

I’m 100% sure that they are aiming in part for a teen audience–those teens buy a lot of music. And honestly, there’s no music out there risque or profane enough that it’s not marketable to teens. I was a teen less than a year ago–I know these things. :) And that video is not very adult-oriented IMO. It’s PG-13, I’d say, and most teens are very comfortable with the R-rated stuff by 15 at the latest. This is my personal experience in middle school and high school and hearing from other people at college, but I think I’m a decently good representative sample. :)

Sounds like Max Martin has been responsible for a lot of good, very successful pop and pop/rock songs in recent years. This collaboration could be very good then. I wonder if he’s writing for Adam, or producing, or both?

  • Mary102

It’s a shame that he lost a supporter and a poster on this site, I have the feeling you need to be open-minded if you expect to embrace the music, videos and shows that Adam puts out in the future. I don’t think they will be aiming for people under 16 for his audience. I might be wrong, it’s just a feeling.

My thing with Adam is, he’s never going to please everyone (in fact, he’s stated on many occassions that riling people up and having people NOT like certain things he does can be just as interesting to him as getting people to like him). To me, that represents, at once, one of his greatest assets and liabilities in terms of really being a big star. It’s that controversial side that has sparked more media attention for him, more negative, and positive, buzz, and it’s what will more likely lead to him being a HUGE success.

Of course, it’s also a big gamble, because the controversy and polarizing nature of a lot of what he does could also alienate a more conventional core audience, such as, possibly, the one MJ mentioned as deciding not to follow Adam after the vid tweet. Just my take on it though.

good for adam for staying true to what he likes and not apologizing for it. he was supporting a friend and also promoting music that HE likes. he is a 27 year old man. it isn’t his job to censor his life so that it is appropriate for kids and tweens, and he shouldn’t have to. if you dont like it or dont find it appropriate for your kids, that is your role as a parent. and in the words of adam lambert ‘go listen to that guys music’ .

ITA! Regardless of what his album sounds like in the “AI-tweaked/watered-down” mode that we’re all so used to by now, Adam, out of all the previous contestants, strikes me as being the least willing to just bow to certain pressures and play it safe with everything else that he does. And I personally think he’s been given more latitude by TPTB to do that (with the RS story, for one) because they realize censoring Adam would be taking away from what makes him such an interesting public figure.

  • saga

#Onto to stuff that matters: in NYC to record song with MAX MARTIN!!! Soo excited. This album is getting so great!!#33 minutes ago from TwitterFon

NOT excited. This guy produces super commercial pop, lots of autotunes and general blah. Boybands, pop girls, that kind of stuff.

  • Truthiness

I don’t think they will be aiming for people under 16 for his audience.

Oh, they’ll be aiming for that demographic, big time (and every other demographic, age-wise). It’s just that probably 90% of people under 16 watch stuff more risque than that video on a daily basis, so Adam’s music really isn’t going to shock their delicate sensibilities. :)

I agree they’ll be aiming for it, and that if they actually happen to catch a video on MTV (do they still show those?) they aren’t going to learn anything new. That video is no more suggestive than most of the other videos out there, it just happens to involve men with men. Eh. Different strokes for different people, that’s cool. That being said, I do think Adam needs to learn to ignore people like that. Way too many trolls and ignorance out there. Which is where this woman is coming from, not someone who just didn’t like the video.

Max Martin is pretty pop, but making some successful tunes, so hope he can do that for Adam as well.

that the Salaam Remi collaboration was an experiment that didn’t work out. He then went on to the Joe King collab as something that did work.

Well I think that would be a shame. I would have liked to have seen some of that from Kris. See him push himself a bit there. Though I can see Joe King being more of his type of music and that collaboration working easier. I just was thinking that there might be more…stuff with Kris’s album than Frays and Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 levels of stuff. Oh well, that does well financially.

Nope. I don’t have a problem with him unleashing them on her at all.

    1) She recently created the account for the express purpose of harassing him.

    2) She also sent multiple harassing tweets to Danny and Michael telling them they needed to preach (I’m pretty sure that was the word) to Adam

    3) She never sent any other tweets of any kind. Only harassing ones to the idols.

Sadly, while the barrage of fan tweets attacking her may have encouraged her to shutdown the account, the odds are she doesn’t care and will just open another account some other day and do something similar.

I saw that video a long time ago and even put the song on my ipod – it’s not great music, but it’s fun. I saw nothing wrong with the video, I’ve seen worse. If it lost him a supporter that’s too bad.

If that was enough to upset the woman, then he would have lost her sooner or later anyway.

I read the wiki on the person working with Adam and I’m so excited. I LOVE my life would suck without you and behind these Hasel eyes was the first song I everknew all the lyrics to. In my school( and people I knew in different schools) in the begining of the school year there were 4 songs you HAD to know. Like I don’t care how popuilar you are you HAVE to know them EVERYONE knows them. the major ones:middle oif the year everyone knew and lived don’t stop believin , middle of the year : poker face. There were others including my life would suck without you but not as important. At the begining of the year you had to know DISTURBIA, SO WHAT, HOT N COLD, I KISSED A GIRL. I cannot stress enough how popular these songs were. People would litterally be humming them in science class. So yeah it’s GREAT adam’s working with this guy!!!!!!!!!!

Max Martin is a huge name, he has written and produces some of the most successfull pop songs in the last few years.

It just confirms further more that RCA is giving Adam the 1st class treatment, they are really trying to make him into the first huge male pop artist out of Idol.

I’m surprised the fans aren’t bothered by the corporate-hit-machine, American Idolness of this. My perception was that Adam had been working with some more edgy (relatively-speaking) people. Max Martin is a name who Kelly Clarkson fans that are convinced she’s a brilliant “artist” invoke disparagingly, as in “Kelly was forced to work with Max Martin”….

Here’s another tweet from him: AdamlambertHahaha. I’m completely enjoying this. It’s hilarious. That’s why I retweeted her ignorant twat. ;)

He actually wrote this on twitter? Used the word “twat” I mean? I would think calling a female that publically would lose him more fans then some posting some mildly controversial music video. Maybe “the rules” are different for gay man.

I seriously doubt he would be recording if he had laryngitis.

I agree that there isn’t anything “official” about laryngitis and it seems doubtful he could record if that were the case. However, I am starting to believe that he may be sick. It could just be a really bad cold or major allergies, but it seems there must be something. I was pretty much thinking as the poster who I just quoted until he stopped doing the “mandatory” inside M&G stuff (both before and after shows). I can’t really imagine TPTB letting him out of those unless he really had a note from the doctor!

Also, I don’t think Adam tweeted “vocal rest” did he? He just said “doctor’s orders” – that could just as easily be a cold that won’t go away or is threatening to escalate and he’s been ordered to rest.

  • Mary102

for those who attended past shows, how do you get backstage M&G passes?

Not easily – and with a good amount of luck/good connections. IDF has some posts on it. They’re generally obtained through contests, knowing someone who knows someone, etc. People have very random stories about how they got them too (like just standing by the security person and getting offered one out of the blue).

Then, there’s the difference (I think) between the backstage M&G (signing) and the actual After Party, which I think can only be gotten through the idols themselves (again, knowing someone who knows someone, etc.)

  • star

You hit the nail on the head! I have a 17 yr old and BET, Lady GaGa, and Katy Perry are what kids are listening to. They like something they can dance to. That’s why I also think allison will have a great shot-if she goes the Pink route.

This blog these words put together created an hmm moment :

Jessica Simpson pushed for American Idol ,”poll” and the word ” dance”—-Tinawina leave this to you…

Tiger92- Do you imagine Adam doing that on AI? To see Simons face..

Totally off topic–Tiger is human Yang beat him in golf..

I can’t stand Jessica Simpson myself (her personality or her music), but she is certainly loopy, so could replace that aspect of Paula’s contribution to AI.

It might be commercial pop but it’s popular. I don’t think Adam is aiming for the under 16 crowd and I’m perfectly ok with that but I’m still going to be a HUGE ADAM FAN. I saw some of the video I got bored and turned it off halfway and I wasn’t offenses at all. Keep in mind that ( I know I’ve said this before) my parents are very over-protective and even I’ve seen worse stuff than that. I probably wouldn’t be allowed to go on this blog but I do just without my parents knowing about it. I delete my history. I would feel guilty but I’m not doing anything wrong am I? my parents also banned me from YouTube a couple years ago now I just visit it on my iPod. still not guilty. I’m sure most people have seen much worse stuff. Most of the people I know are on YouTube all the time and have facebooks. My cousin who is very age-appropriate watches 90210 which is A LOT worse than other things i’ve seen. My parents don’t let me watch romance(too much) or violence and my Dad even made my brother whose 7 stop watching spongebob because it’s so stupid. I am not allowed to say bad words I do in front of them and get in trouble for it but I don’t say a$$ bitc@ or f#% k. my point is the video is notbad at all compared to other things. sorry for the rant:) the person who stopped posting here that’s fine its absolutely her decision ( shrugs). I think most of his fans know he’s like the anti-mickey mouse. And I laughed at the tweet sent to Adam.

NOT excited. This guy produces super commercial pop, lots of autotunes and general blah. Boybands, pop girls, that kind of stuff.

I don’t have a problem with commercial pop, especially when it’s Max Martin’s brand of commercial pop. :) I hope he cranks out a hit for Adam!

Nice article in the post, mj, but I think New Moon probably has Biggest Movie Of The Fall locked down, heh.

Yeah, maybe my standards are just low, but I agree that I’d be more than happy just to have some light, catchy, #1 hits for Adam :-) Especially early on in his career.

In fact, the smart strategy for Adam may be to make the first album much more dance, top 40, pop friendly (think Gaga, Katy Perry, BEP – techno/fun) without too much “deep” material per se. Then, future albums, once he’s gotten himself pretty mainstream, can be a little more experimental and quirky.

  • Adamme

Adam got negative tweets for posting a link to Cassidy’s video.

Well, the video lost him at least one fan.

I didn’t watch the whole video in you tube, I didn’t care for the singer (Cassidy). Yeah.. I thought I’ve seen him somewhere, he was at that 20/20 when Adam tried on his Concert jacket. It doesn’t matter.
It didn’t change my support for Adam. He is who he is, he’s not perfect. He never claims to be someone else. I love him the way he is and especially love his incredible vocal.

mj – congrats! I copied the article and emailed to my friends. Yes, to promote Adam :clap_tb:

Jessica could fit in so well to AI. She could give tips on how to cover and ruin songs like Berlin’s Take My Breath Away. Or how to make a cheesy 80s show, even worse in a film remake. Yep, Jessica knows all about doing the work of other people…badly. She’d fit right into AI with her real world experience to share with the kiddies.

He actually wrote this on twitter? Used the word ‘twat’ I mean? I would think calling a female that publically would lose him more fans then some posting some mildly controversial music video. Kris is collaborating with Daughtry and Adam is collaborating with Martin. Neither collaboration is likely to yield musical masterpeices of great depth, but they could yield fun, catchy hits, and that would enable Kris and Adam to make more albums in the future where they would be able to experiment and go deeper. And I just really want more albums in the future from them. :)

I think that is not a bad idea, business wise. He’s already aiming to do the kind of stuff that’s all over pop radio anyway (electro/rock/dance/fun/fusion), Max Martin can definitely give him a song that leans more in the pop direction.

I also think that soundtrack/TV thing makes a lot of sense. His most popular songs on AI were ballads, but leading with a ballad is usually a bad idea in the real world. But if its on a soundtrack or TV promo, folks can get their ballad without it being a single. Good stuff.

I think that if he wants major sales, he pretty much *has* to do this. They all do, one way or another, I think, if they don’t want everybody calling them failures even when they’re doing very solid and commendable work, unfortunately. Nobody’s going to accept indie-level U.S. sales from an Idol as meaning anything except that they’ve totally bombed, and I think that would be true if their music one 10 grammys and a couple of Pulitzer prizes into the bargain.

luvadamlambert: I really loved your last post! You are in middle school, right? I taught middle school for several years so I always enjoy seeing what you have to say. I think some adults have forgotten what it was like to be a teenager. I am also the parent to a 17 yr old who is has grown into a wonderful young person. I know I haven’t and won’t do everything right but I try to pick my battles. After seeing all the things teens are exposed to, I try not to “sweat the small stuff” both in the classroom or at home. Doing so usually causes rebellion.

I love you, Jim Cantiello! A Kradam fan must be loved, and the snarkiness just endears me to you more! :)

I still wonder about Adam…is he sick? If he were truly sick, would the doctors let him fly all over the country recording his album? Too bad he couldn’t do it in Boston, so no flying (which is not good for one’s health, of course). Maybe he is just really worn down. But seriously, they wouldn’t give him ONE DAY OFF?!

Will definitely try for pendant this time, along with hundreds of others. I really want one!

As for the Tour buses tomorrow in Boston at the Garden: Anyone have anywhere they might be? Several Boston fans along with me are trying to figure out where they might be…I have given up on a M&G pass, since Sarver did not DM me during one of his twitter parties. ;-)

It just confirms further more that RCA is giving Adam the 1st class treatment, they are really trying to make him into the first huge male pop artist out of Idol.

I don’t think RCA is giving Adam the 1st class treatment. I think at the beginning they asked Adam if he has producers he wanted to work with and he gave them his list. Probably some of them approached RCA that they want to work with Adam like Red One. He said in one of the interview there’re songs that he wrote together with songwriters/producers and there are songs that have been written for him already.

He could be sick and it won’t matter. You don’t always get a choice about taking days off and Adam probably doesn’t. He has to work on the album while on tour, and then take three weeks after to finish it. The two places he can really record are LA and NY. So while around NY he has to do things like record, or do the photoshoots that have already been booked and probably paid for. I’m sure we’ve all had to work while sick. I had to do it just last week. Sucks, but that’s life.

The only thing offensive about that amateurish Cassidy video is the cheesiness of the whole thing. Bad song, almost as bad as the Danny Noriega video a while back.

Max Martin….not sure how i feel about the collaboration. Obviously, a big commercial pop song would benefit adam (as it would any singer). However, its not the “edgy/something different” style I would have expected from him. I hope the album doesn’t try so hard to be commercial that it turns adam into a cheesy pop act. But honesty, that’s the dilemma in the market. Massive sales don’t necessarily reflect the quality of the music. And if you try to be different, original, creative, it might not be absorbed by the general public (ex: some of the works by Radiohead & Beck).

I would be more excited about a John Legend and Kris Allen collaboration …but that’s my taste in music. I like Max Martin songs to dance at clubs and during spin class, but they never last on my iPod.

  • LoveContinuum

I find the video controversy to be a bit sexist. Double standards ‘n all. We see loads of videos that show women bump ‘n grinding… Britney? Lady G? I think a few peeps took offense because a) it showed men bumping men, and b) the song was (in some folks opinions) a bit blasphemous. Personally, I think it’s great. Both the song and the video. I’d certainly give it a whirl on my iPod.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But kids are exposed to things at such a young age now, this video shouldn’t shock. And like someone else said, it’s up to parents to censor their kids internet browsing.

Bottom line: Adam is a smart guy. Staying in the headlines will bring him waaaaaay more fans than he’ll lose by promoting his mates’ video.

  • Natasha

Jessica Simpson? Didn’t Simon once say on the show that she can’t sing? He referred to some contestant as “our Jessica Simpson” and said she had the packaging but not the voice. Randy and Paula argued with him.

Hi noctem. The word “twat” in the twitterverse actually precedes Adam’s use of it. It seems to be a generally accepted (tho tacky, I admit) term for “tweet.” I think was meant as “twatted,” i.e. tweet in past tense. More recently, its been used to describe a tweet that is pointless or boring. It’s in the urban dictionary and a few other online encyclopedias. People wanted to credit (discredit) him with inventing the usage; it’s been around awhile but is not at all meant as the insult to women that, sadly, most of us are familiar with. That being said, I do worry when he uses it for this very reason – that normal, thinking individuals like yourself will be concerned and potentially offended.

Wow, that was way too much about “twats,” I think! :doh_tb:

What? A post AI first album be cheesy and full of dreck? Who would have suspected such a thing could happen?

But that being said, Adam didn’t say he was going for edgy. Sexy, fun, rock, dance, pop, funk, jazz, siiickk, yes, edgy however is one of the few words he hasn’t used to describe his upcoming album. Not as far as I know. Could be wrong on that. And he’s said that one or two of his songs might be more pop. So I totally expected him to go there. Especially given who he is working with and yeah, I don’t blame him, given the market to have some of that on his first record. Makes sense to me.

So while around NY he has to do things like record, or do the photoshoots that have already been booked and probably paid for. I’m sure we’ve all had to work while sick. I had to do it just last week. Sucks, but that’s life.

True, but when I am sick, I can come into work late, or leave early, or take a break, and probably not have to talk, and I don’t have to perform (maybe I have to attend a meeting, but that’s about it). I don’t have to give countless interviews, attend m&gs (at least scheduled ones), and perform for 14-18,000 people. So there is a difference. :) I understand that he is getting paid a million times more than me (or will be), and has a ton of scheduled events and recording sessions lined up, but he is still not used to this grind, and so I still don’t understand why having ONE DAY OFF would make an enormous difference, except that he might actually to get sleep in and get some sun. Go to the beach. Sit by the pool. Eat at an outdoor cafe. That sort of summer-type thing without pressure. Would one day be that big a deal?!

  • Squirrely

I think it is generous of Adam to ‘plug’ his friends. They’ve all been trying to make it in the biz with Adam. Now that Adam is catching on, why not share his celebritydom?

I like that he is using his name recognition to help his friends too. Also it’s helping with Donorschoose.org and music cares as well.

  • spring2009

I have just had a very quick pass through this thread because I am home for lunch (I know, colour me pathetic), so excuse me if I missed this but didn’t Adam also post a link to a Fonzerelli video that was pretty suggestive?? I will have to watch the Cassidy one again, but I in my mind the other was the same or worse? Still it wouldn’t bother me if my kids (when they were younger) saw either one of them. People do need to watch what their kids are doing if it bothers them so much.

    Congrats MJ !

Hey guys, can I add Cassidy-gate to my list of gates?

    Yes please!

  • Truthiness

I’m sure we’ve all had to work while sick. I had to do it just last week. Sucks, but that’s life.

The difference is, we usually get two (maybe only one) days off per week. These kids aren’t getting any days off to speak of, and are working AND travelling many, many days straight.

Yeah, but that’s what happens sometimes when you’re starting out. Like people who run their own businesses will work tons, especially in the beginning, to get things off the ground. Yeah it sucks for these guys and it sucks to have to do it when you’re sick. But it’s how it’s structured and this is a big break and opportunity that they all want and wouldn’t normally have gotten otherwise. “You’ve got big dreams? You want fame? Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying –with sweat!”

Most of my tweets have been twats too. Guess I need to get more creative.4:15 AM Jul 8th from TwitterFon

I think my favorite part of this was one of the responses he got – I don’t have it so I’ll have to paraphrase, but he even replied to the girl that he thought it was hilarious. It was something like “Big News: Adam Lambert doesn’t like twats!” :smile_wp:

Kris is recording in Boston today. He tweeted this.

I wonder if Matt, Sarver, and Scott are eating at a food court at one of the malls in downtown Boston today? ;-)

I think some people forget the kind of vids that Adam put out pre-Idol. Pretty suggestive. Zodiac Show, anyone? They weren’t just friends of his, they were HIS.

Re: that twitter woman’s reaction to Adam posting links to “suggestive” videos – if she had bothered to search Adam out on YouTube while she was gagging on Cassidy’s song, she’d see his own suggestive vids from the Zodiak Show, etc. Frankly, as others have noted more eloquently than I, today’s pop stars (and yesterday’s, hmmm) have pretty suggestive vids of their own. Madonna, anyone? I don’t have children, but if I did, it would be up to *me* to decide what they can and can’t look at online. Not some lady in twitterland getting all bent. I think she was ranting about the fact that Cassidy is gay more than that the video was inappropriate. And again, we have a double standard. It’s ok for men to have sexy women in their videos, or for women to have sexy men….but once it’s same sex interaction, all bets are off. Adam may not want to be a champion for gay rights, but living his life is making him one anyway.

As for Max Martin news, I happen to like a lot of those pop hits he helped with. While I certainly don’t want Adam’s album to be full of nothing but pop-pablum, a hit single or two would be just fine! :laugh_tb:

  • BestAI

Yes, and that is where it is to Adam’s advantage that he does have many “older” (older meaning not teens or college age) fans. They have contributed thousands of dollars to the Donors charity already. I don’t know how many teens can shell out several hundred dollars for a pendant too. My hubs doesn’t mind my spending a few bucks on something that is going to make me happy. I don’t know why it is making me so happy to be able to buy that pendant, but it has really brightened my day.

My editor typically re-writes my less-than-hyperbolic lead paragraphs. :) .

It all depends on what you mean by “biggest.” Budget-wise, it is most certainly the biggest movie of the fall, so in that sense your editor was quite correct. Ticket sales are another matter, of course.

Congrats on another “scoop” for the Post MJ!

Now that MTV has picked up the story, it won’t be long before the studio has to make some sort of statement either confirming or (gulp) denying. It still makes me nervous that nobody connected with this movie has said one word about Adam’s song, despite the fact that it would be great publicity for them to do so. The only conclusion I can draw is that no final decision has been made about its inclusion in the movie.

This idea about how ‘suggestive,’ Cassidy’s video was? When the Teen Choice Awards has teen Miley Cyrus pole dancing (and where is Jessica Simpson when you need her?) as part of their show.

I mean, if you’re going to have a larger discussion about the sexualization in our culture, fine. I’m actually against it and didn’t like the Miley stuff. I don’t like anything the Pussycat Dolls do, and most rap videos make me want to castrate men everywhere. But that’s a larger societal debate. I think Cassidy’s video is fine within our current levels of video, other than that it is men/men, rather than men/women. That’s the only difference I see in it, frankly. Even it’s being crappy music isn’t different than the vast majority of pop music out there.

I think producers and songwriters are hitting up RCA to record with Adam. When everything is recorded and mixed together, you never know how the end product will sound. I don’t know how many tracks they get, but I bet less than 40% end up on his CD.

Bad analogy, but at the top of my head, a dress on the rack may look smashing, but once you try it on, ugh. Could be the opposite too, what may look ugh on the rack may look smashing on. You just have to try many to get the “right” look.

That’ll be the second or third album ;-)

I agree with the other posters, that to be successful you often have to give up a bit of creativity. It sucks, but it’s true. You can strike gold and come up with something truly popular and revolutionary, but that is very rare and hard to do. After all, the reason that they’re huge #1 hits is that they appeal to the widest possible audience, and to satisfy so many people, you’re going to have to veer a little more on the side of “safe”.

  • Truthiness

Speaking of 2012, Roland Emmerich just got the plot for his next disaster film! Adam includes too many awewome songs on album, destroys world. Besides the global warming he’s already responsible for.

That video is no more suggestive than most of the other videos out there, it just happens to involve men with men.

That’s the thing’“that video was no more suggestive than Flo Rida’s performance on AI this past season, but man-on-man causes a bigger reaction.

I think it’s not so much that there’s man-on-man action going on, but the fact that it’s going on inside a church. A lot of people would find that offensive.

  • Mary102

I totally agree. But part of me hopes that ‘safe’ and ‘Adam’ wouldn’t really compute. LOL

Very true – bit of an oxymoron there. My take on it is, if people like Max Martin and Redone really hook Adam up with more pop-friendly, dance tracks (a la the stuff they’ve done in the past), we still have Adam performing them, which, in and of itself means his unique stamp will be on songs that, in lesser hands, might be pretty weak and pedestrian.

After all, this is the guy who can “sing the phone book”, who has one pretty freaking incredible voice capable of going anywhere from snarly, sexy Zeppelin, to stratospheric heights, to whispery ballads.

I’m reminded of “Want”, the demo song from before. The song was pretty simple and stupid, but damn did his voice sound great singing it :-)

It’s Shania Twain for the Chicago dates Aug 30-31. She’s not much of a singer but she is MAJOR as an entertainer. It’d be great to see her do this IMO. She’s too big a deal to become the 4th judge but moonlighting as a guest judge/being a mentor she’d be good at IMO.

Yes to pop-friendly dance tracks. Honestly, I loved “Kiss and Tell” and “Pop Goes the Camera,” and I wouldn’t have minded either of them being released (shame that HiFi has them, though we haven’t heard a peep from them recently) as his first single. I’m all for an electronic dance track produced by RedOne as the first hit. I think he really needs to crack Top 40 radio.

And yeah. “Want” was a little (ok, a lot) weak in the lyrics, but you are so right: Adam’s lovely voice redeemed it from being total crap. :-)

  • http://twitter.com/terra_zephead terraj

I saw the Whiskey in Churches video when it was first posted in June (and there was a huge debate on ONTD_AI on who the anonymous guy in the video is; I still stand my opinion that it’s guess-who as he owns exactly the same jacket and physique as the guy in the video lol)

But anyways honestly I didn’t think it was that risque compared to many music videos already out there. The only “issue” is that features a gay couple. I think some fans can’t seem to get over the idea that Adam’s gay and that his LA social circle is very different and far more wild than the more “conservative” American Idol audiences can accept.

  • sidewalkstory

I may be a minority here. But to be honest, I didn’t like the Cassidy video.

lola, I didn’t either. The video was cheesy and the song was repetitious.

Max Martin is just musically unintresting in my opinion. It’s not just pop, it’s the pop of pop. Britney, Back Street Boys, Westlife, Five. Maybe he’s had a revival in resent years with Katy Perry but when someone say Max Martin I am thinking pastell pink and blue.

In no way am I expecting great art or revolutionary music from Adam’s post-Idol album. I don’t think any of his fans are– it’s more what people think Adam’s fans are expecting.

So the best path he can go is commercial (Adam’s flavor of it, of course). After he establishes his career, he can start experimenting with edgier stuff. And Max Martin is phenomenal. “Baby One More Time,” “Oops I Did It Again,” “I Kissed a Girl,” “Since U Been Gone,” “So What,” all the BSB songs– he’s written so many of the best, chart topping pop singles. He’s definitely someone Adam should be working with at this stage of his career.

  • LisaE

Let’s be honest, the person who is no longer an Adam fan because of Cassidy’s video would have left eventually. I have no idea who she thought she was following. Does anyone here really think Adam is going to be putting out family-friendly videos himself? No.

Personally, I found the Cassidy video only mildly entertaining. Nothing great; but I thought it was sweet that he was promoting his friends. You do those sorts of things for good friends and I like him more because of it.

Max Martin may be a pop producer, but at least he’s a very good one. He’s written some of the catchiest and best pop songs of the last 2 decades. “Since You’ve Been Gone” is a great pop song. Same with “I Want It That Way.” And so on. I’m not remotely a big pop fan, but I truly have a lot of his songs on my iPod.

ETA: Whether we like it or not, Adam needs a BIG first single, and pop sells and gets played on the radio.

But, hunh, I just thought it was a bar that had a church theme. Because of the pretty wood bar with alcohol behind, on it, the tables and stage, sure with some crosses thrown in. But than I’ve been in bars that have church/gothic themes to them. Been in former churches that have been converted into restaurants, for that matter. It didn’t occur to me that it was supposed to be an actual church in the video. But then I wasn’t paying too much attention, because the song was boring me to much for me to care.

  • Q3

Max Martin is a very big deal. In the world of pop and electro-dance, he is one of best and most creative producers. He’s also a great songwriter who knows how to write hit songs to feature artist’s vocal strengths. Adam and Max Martin seems be a great match – I expect to see a Max Martin song on Adam’s CD — Max is just that good IMO.

Regarding the comments about Adam sending business to skin.graft.designs, I am sure that he has but skin.graft.designs worked with the Idol stylists before Adam Lambert. Adam is knoew them and is friends with Cassidy Haley, Jonny Cota and Katie Kay. (LA is a very small town.) Adam is just the first Idol to talk alot about his fashion and designers on air and in interviews.

Nice article in the post, mj, but I think New Moon probably has Biggest Movie Of The Fall locked down, heh.

I don’t think it’s clear which will have the bigger gross, but I would bet on 2012. 2012 has a $250 budget and is expected to be the biggest movie of the Holiday movie season. It could miss, but Sony is releasing it worldwide over the course of one week. And it’s slated for way more screens than New Moon.

Roland Emmerich has a mixed track record but has two films on the all time top 100 movie gross list (worldwide):

    #21 Independence Day Worldwide: $817.4 US: $306.2

#57 The Day After Tomorrow Worldwide: $544.3 US: $186.7

Even Emmerich’s last movie (which was not even watchable IMO), 10,000 B.C., grossed over $270 million Worldwide plus had another $31.3 million in DVD sales.

    Twillight: Worldwide $382.5 US $191.5
Twillight US DVD sales are $159.2 million.
Note: Twillight has a $38 million production budget so it was a very profitable movie.

Yeah, having been through this debate weeks, maybe months ago on TWoP, I’m with the “no,” side, but can’t be compelled to come up with all the evidence against it. I think they credited some guy for it at the end, yadda. Though evidently it’s a clear reference to someone. Uhem.

But I think it’s more that Adam likes to promote, tweet about people/things he enjoys. Like that guy’s jewellery, or the Fonzerelli song, or this video by Cassidy. Or a pair of YSL boots that caught his eye. And I agree at least on the boots. rwor.

    From Jim Cantiello’s MTV.com article about Adam’s 2012 song:

But rest easy, Glamberts! We are working overtime to get as many details as possible over the highly-anticipated tune. What’s it called? Will it also be on his major-label debut album this fall? Will it be “Rock Gawd” Lambert or “Gentle Jeff Buckley Balladeer” Lambert? And how badly does Brian May want Lambert to be in Queen? We’re making as many phone calls as humanly possible to get to the bottom of this. So stay tuned…

I agree; Adam needs a big hit for his first single. (Of course, having Mad World for FastForward won’t hurt, but I do not think that is the direction he is going in.) If the single for 2012 comes out before the album (IF he does get his single on there), then maybe he can release something much different than that. I think his first single will be sort of a Lady GaGa type of single with a bit of synth/electro pop, and the single for 2012 will be more…Muse-Like? I have no idea what the single for 2012 will sound like, except not like My Heart Will Go On, right? ;-) What does an apocalypse song sound like, anyway? I apologize if this discussion has already taken place, but with his working with producer in NYC, I am curious what kind of sound he is going for. Really pop? Moby-like? (Of course, Moby hasn’t had a Top 10 hit in at least 5 years, probably more than that.)

I know Kris is recording in Boston today, but I have no idea whom he is recording with. Pocket Idol is keeping his work pretty close to his chest. :)

I think it’s not so much that there’s man-on-man action going on but the fact that it’s going on inside a church. Yeah, a lot of people would find that offensive.

I guess some people may be offended by that.

The church I used to go to for Sunday School when I was a kid was converted into a trendy bar/wine bar .. but it still has a lot of the same architecture, stain glass windows etc … I have to say that I have a lot more fun there now the I did when I was a kid .. plus I don’t have to be dragged there …lol

You know, when I watched it yesterday my reaction to the song was ‘meh – doesn’t do much for me’ . However, I cannot get it out of my head! O My God – it’s an earworm :)

That’s so true. I watched it when Adam first tweeted it. I couldn’t actually make it through the vid, I thought it was a tacky video with a repetitive tune and obvious lyrics. Nothing at all for me to write home about.
But ever since then I’ve had the “Oh my god my god my god…” chorus running through my head constantly, and this thread isn’t helping lol.

Speaking of 2012, Roland Emmerich just got the plot for his next disaster film! Adam includes too many awewome songs on album, destroys world. Besides the global warming he’s already responsible for.

ha, i was about to write a similar reply. the end is near :)

Cassigate….it all boils down to society not being comfortable with male homosexuality. in movies, in tv, in music videos. etc. there is nothing in the video that is remotely more offensive that anything you find today on MTV and even Bravo. if you want to cry about indecency, call mtv casting and complain to them about the twats they put in the Real World series. or even AI for promoting songs about Oral Sex and Blaming it on the Alcohol for Doing Stupid Shyt.

  • Mary102

Nice article in the post, mj, but I think New Moon probably has Biggest Movie Of The Fall locked down, heh.

I don’t think it’s clear which will have the bigger gross, but I would bet on 2012. 2012 has a $250 budget and is expected to be the biggest movie of the Holiday movie season. It could miss, but Sony is releasing it worldwide over the course of one week. And it’s slated for way more screens than New Moon.

Yeah, I’d second that. Twilight did well for when it was released (fall) but hardly had action-flick blockbuster level sales. New Moon has more buzz imo, and apparently better production values, but it will attract, oh, 99.999% tween girls between the ages of 10 and 19 – not many guys clamoring for that one, etc. 2012 will be more of a “family disaster flick” – attracting a wider audience, and especially with worldwide sales, it will likely be bigger.

and adam (someone who can actually sing) loses fans for recommending his friend’s video? with what? a little leather and the top of butt cheeks?

It’s a bit more risque than that. Take a look at 0:35. This video would never have been cleared by a cable channel like MTV, even if it were by someone like Britney or Madonna. So the argument that tweens and teens see “much worse” on TV is not valid IMO.

I am a gay man who has seen MUCH “worse,” believe me. Nevertheless, I got a horrible sinking feeling in my stomach when I watched the video. Like it or not, Adam is still under contract to AI, and everything he does has to be looked at through that prism.

Bottom line, I think it was a bad mistake for him to promote the video. Once he strikes out on his own with no ties to Idol or 19E, such things won’t matter in the least. Until then, he has to take the Idol constituency into account. If he didn’t want to accept that fact of life, he shouldn’t have auditioned for the show.

My conclusion, it’s not Adam. The guy in the video doesn’t have love handles; Check out the bit with Cassidy kneeling, the unknown man’s shirt is lifted so you can see his lower waist.

(Of course, Moby hasn’t had a Top 10 hit in at least 5 years, probably more than that.)

IF the rumor that the song is played during the Final Credits is correct, and IF Rolland Emmerich follows post-apocalypic movie tradition and also follows the Mayan 2012 prediction, then Adam’s song would be for the “re-birth” of the human race. It could be that the earth is saved or that the spaceship fleet leaves Earth with the chosen ones to build a new world. No one has revealed the end of 2012 yet but we do know that there are space arcs (spaceship fleet like 21st century Noah’s Arcs) and a secret plan to save the human race.

Just based on the music that Emmerich has used in the past, I expect an uplifting anthem with classical overtones, definitely not a pop song. My bet is something in the Theatrical Rock/Operatic Rock genre. Also if it was a pop song or something Moby-like (Pop-Rock-Techno-Electronica), I can’t imagine Brian May would have been so impressed.

But it really isn’t an issue now. It’s a handful of protesters, you put out a Disney movie and you’ll get a handful protesting it.

It’s not an issue at all, I don’t think. Put that video on MTV, then you might have an issue. Wait, MTV doesn’t play music videos anymore, so I guess it will stay a non-issue.

Will it be ‘Rock Gawd’ Lambert or ‘Gentle Jeff Buckley Balladeer’ Lambert?
Jim Cantiello poses a very good question, because it did seem like Adam’s fans had a preference. But now there is word that Max Martin is working with Adam, and as Q3 pointed out, Max Martin is pop and electro-dance.

Now the media and critics have always commented on the “rock gawd” Adam. Not the electronic dance / pop Adam. There’s a bit of a disconnect from what he is singing now on tour and the album that he seems to be making. I don’t think Adam is making any attempt to go rock, this is sounding more like a male Kelly Clarkson album. Her current album is pop, rock, electronic, dance, hip hop. And he’s working with many of the same folks Kelly did.

Now you’re going to make me try and watch it again. Yawwwnn. It’s so dull. Okay. That :35 was so brief and went fuzzy, I had to really look for it and stop it to see. And I disagree, that would still be in the realms of videos today. Really, look at some rap videos, listen to their lyrics. As someone pointed out, Flo Rida’s song about oral sex was what he sang on AI, slightly toned down, not much though. And Jamie Foxx was on singing about blaming it on the alcohol on AI. So I don’t think Adam has to worry too much about 19′s prudery as much these days.

Again, even Miley Cryus, Disney teen, at some Teen Choice awards wearing leather spanx, danced with a pole on top of an ice cream stand.

There are many things that Adam does that worry me, his linking to that video, isn’t one of them. His thinking that is good, worries me more. But I like to think he’s just saying that because Cassidy is a friend. Or it could be part of his Peaches area of bad taste (sticks tongue out at Calliope).

Agreed. It’s always some big, soaring ballad type thing. One that comes to mind is the song that plays at the end of Troy (classical overtones like you mention).

That could be a really cool combo, actually. If the song from the movie is more ballady (mainstream, MW-type song that everyone LOVES to hear from Adam), and then the first single from the album is the exact opposite (pop-dance-electronic).

LOL! Well, to be fair, he literally said “My friend Cassidy just shot this great video” – nothing about the actual song in it being great ;-)

IMO the vid has “potential” – sort of reminds me of an amateur True Blood episode. Hardly brilliant, but not bad either for a group just doing it independently without big bucks (I have no idea how it was actually made, or who financed it). If my artistic friends turned this out, I’d be pretty impressed with them, tbh :-)

Anyone who thinks that Cassidy’s video would be a content issue for MTV, needs to look at what they air. And MTV Tres and MTV Jams make MTV look very tame. I get 6 US MTV’s and I think this would meet the content standards for all of them. Of course, IMO it wouldn’t meet the more important “good song/performance” standard.

They have Palladia, 3 VH1s, 2 CMTs and quite a few other music channels for poeple who find MTV too explicit.

If Adam’s tweet read ‘My friend Cassidy just shot this great video’ .. then to me that implies that the video was shot recently . which would rule out Adam filming the video during the early part of Idol and he seems to have been far too busy in the last couple of months to get his leather gear on and gyrate around in a pal’s video .. so I doubt it’s him.

THIS. I think Adam is being groomed as the “Wild Idol” (per Rolling Stone Cover). That’s why they’re letting him be himself (for the most part). It certainly helps him stand out from the rest of the Idol crowd. Plus it gives them a little street cred.

  • Sherena

Look, the video offended one or two people. Adam was just promoting his friends. It’s sweet of him, and that girl who was so angry was a troll twitter anyway. It’s not a big deal, and the kind of fans who would be seriously bothered by that video wouldn’t have stuck with Adam that long anyway. This has been blown out of proportion.

I think Adam needs to stop responding to these one or two negative twitters– as with the case of the people complaining over the signings–those people mostly just want attention.

MTV, BET, etc. frequently show women rubbing their butts/crotch against men and each other for that matter all the time. In fact, there are few music videos today that doesn’t have some crotch/butt action. The only difference with this video is its 2 men, and society has a double standard with that. But that is more of a societal/personal issue than anything else.

Take the movie Milk for instance. I thought the movie was very good and actually pretty tame considering most movies/tv shows these days, but there was a small controversy surrounding it when it was first rated because they rated it R. Why? I’m guessing it was due to a small amount of male nudity, although, it’s shot in a way that nothing is seen. It depicts an alternative lifestlye yes, and there’s kissing, but again, it was tame compared to most moves. The only difference is the characters in milk were gay. I think thats the problem some may be having with this music video.

    1. Adam just needs to sell records and merchandise, and fill concert halls.

    2. I don’t see a “bad mistake here”. He didn’t promote the video on Idol, he tweeted it to people who choose to follow him. And IMO anyone who was offended by that video wouldn’t actually buy an Adam album — even if they tweet or email that they would have. Most the Adam fans that didn’t like it tweeted something like – I dodn’t like it but love you! Most of the negative tweets were from people who had other Idol favs. There are ever negative tweets from people who follow Kris but not Adam.

    3. I bet real money Adam will push some boundaries with his music and/or the presentation of that music that go beyond that video. Even last night’s WLL performance was more explicit in many ways than that video.

    4. I don’t see the Idol constituency as one group of people. I am a long-time Idol viewer, but the only thing I have in common with the Idol viewer sterotype is that I choose to live in the Southeast most of the time. Other than that, I am not Christian, not socially or politically conservative, don’t listen to much pop music, and so on.

Idol is most interested in keeping the viewers advertisers want – adults ages 18 to 49. I have bought media for years and advertisers don’t look at total ratings, they look at the ratings for the desired demo groups. Generally, the number of viewers within the 18-49 age range is more important than the total number of viewers. A couple of examples from Ad Age:

    - In the 2007-08 season, Grey’s Anatomy was able to charge $419,000 per commercial, compared to only $248,000 for a commercial during CSI, despite CSI having almost five million more viewers on average.

    - Friends was able to charge almost three times for a commercial as Murder, She Wrote, even though the two series had similar total viewer numbers during the seasons they were on the air together, because Friends had the right demos.

Idols ratings have slipped but the bigger issue for Idol is that they are loosing the 18 to 49 group. They will do whatever they can do to recapture those viewers. (Some advertisers only pay based upon Target Rating Points not for Total Ratings.) If they don’t succeed in keeping the 18 to 49 group, they will be faced with an ad revenue decline.

I agree he should be careful what he tweets but I fail to see how this is seriously in any way considered to be a threat to his post-idol career. His career will blossom or fail based on the material he puts out and how well it sells, or not.End of!

Well, like MJ says, it’s all fun and games until somebody gets an eye poked out. Or in this case, until Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight picks it up. I think back to the days when those shows would pick up vlogs posted by Rosie O’Donnell on her blog, and create a huge uproar about some things she said. That was the reason she discontinued posting them. The internet is not confined to the internet any more.

WOW if Adam just tweeting about something makes it #20 on the iTunes electronic charts I’m excited for what his album will do!!!!

  • pjd

Well, obviously Cassidy-gate isn’t hurting Adam on Twitter. He has added over 1000 more followers in the last day… (I think he has added around 5000 in the last week and will most likely top 150,000 in the next week or so – currently 145,049)

  • SashaB

Luvadamlambert, I’m a huge Kelly Clarkson fan myself. I own all her albums. Still prefer “My December”, but hey, I like her new album as well. It just struck me as a bit of a disconnect that Adam seems to be going much more towards Kelly Clarkson pop, because there has been so much discussion on Adam as “rock” or “glam rock”. So it was a tad surprising to see the ever growing list that could be representative of a Kelly Clarkson album. Again, I like Kelly, so it’s not a knock, just an observation.

Loved the 1st part of Kris’ L.A. Times interview! Finally get to hear about him trying to make it as a musician by playing the local gigs in Arkansas. That bit about his first-ever gig was funny!

And that is the problem isn’t it… a man touching another man’s crotch. Because just off the top of my head I can think of many videos that were on MTV of women touching women or men touching women or people touching themselves. Michael Jackson grab his crotch multiple times in many different videos. Janet grab her chest in the scream video. Madonna…well she just had so much I can’t even begin. In Britney’s video Toxic she spills water on a man and the wipes his crotch area. HELLO where was the outrage then…I have more of a problem with the fact it was a crappy song with a very juvenile premise about attraction or sex. Extremely amateurish. I love Adam but hate that song and the guys voice on the video…Let’s just say please bring on “Dream on” by Gokey…

There is so much Adam buzz and love, I don’t think it will fail. At a minimum it will do great (as opposed to really great, platinum, and on), and well enough where he can start booking for his tour. There has hardly been a lull in buzz surrounding Adam.

I’m surprised she hasn’t heard anything from Kris yet. That just further cements my impression that Kris has gotten a later start on RECORDING than the other two. I wouldn’t be surprised if his album doesn’t drop until December. He seems further behind.

David Archuleta’s new album Christmas From the Heart recently became available for pre-order.

    source: Examiner

Congrates to David, but I don’t know what a vote as many times as you want online popularity poll really says about their relative popularity. All that has to happen is that a fanboard or two gets behind the poll and that Idol wins the vote ‘” a lot like Mr. Twitter competitions.
    ———————–

Yeah, just like winning the American Idol. ——online popularity poll – voting as many times as you want. also like the silly Mr. Twitter poll. —I totally agree.

So far the Kris interview is off to an interesting start. It seems like if he was that good with the viola he could have continued with playing it in college if it wasn’t for peer pressure. Although I wonder if Kris, Viola principal would still end up auditioning for AI, so I guess it’s good that he didn’t.

I hope that one day that “horrible” EP he made finds itself on the internet. This is from the guy who thinks BNS is “embarrassing”. I bet “horrible” in Kris-speak is “not bad, decent”.

There’s no way. He’s repeatedly said it’s going to be before Thanksgiving in November. Besides with all that hoopla about how Adam was writing his songs and a lot of his recent tweets being more recording oriented than writing oriented, we know he has stuff that people have listened to. Maybe it just wasn’t Megan.

However, I do think he may have started recording a little later than Adam or Allison, but that’s only because I think he’s probably a little more involved in the co-writing process. When he says co-writing, it sounds like he’s not only involved with the lyrics, but the music as well. And in a recent interview he mentioned working on songs by himself.

Once the tour is over, I’m sure Jive will have him working to get that album finished in November. He’ll have no days off. Sad, but that’s the life of the American Idol.

He actually wrote this on twitter? Used the word ‘twat’ I mean? I would think calling a female that publically would lose him more fans then some posting some mildly controversial music video. Maybe ‘the rules’ are different for gay man.

Twat is a common word used in the U.K. and it is not used regarding a female. My mother was a Brit and said twat in both contexts as below.

    Examples:

    * As a derogatory insult, a pejorative meaning a fool, synonymous with the word twit – ‘You are a real twat and a half’ (often used in the UK) * To hit something (or someone) hard or violently – ‘Let’s get out there and twat it!’

edit: please don’t bait or question the motives of fellow posters

For me, the decidedly non-rockstar-like behavior is kind of cool and a bit refreshing because I think the persona of unbridled rock hedonism is quite cliche. But, still, I don’t think David Cook is going to become the mold for a new archetypical, “family-friendly rocker”. You’re the only one, dude. You’re the only one who would enjoy several days off on an almost year-long tour by taking to your nieces and nephews to Disney. And once your career is done, this distinct breed of rock musician (a breed of one) will die out along with it….

Taking a napkin and wiping a spilled drink off a jacket “near” his crotch is what is known as “suggestive.” Taking your hand and masturbating someone over their clothing is graphic. Grabbing your crotchal area and yelling, a la MJ, is not overtly sexual. Rubbing it would be.

dhunken, I’m really not trying to get into an argument about this. I am not offended in the least by the video. I watched the Cassidy video before Adam tweeted about it. I didin’t finish watching the whole thing cause I felt a little uncomfortable about it. I am quite conservative. But I don’t think there is anything wrong with Adam giving a shout out to his friend’s video. If you don’t like it or find it inappropriate, don’t watch it. I kinda knew it would be too much for me so I stopped watching. I really appreciate the fact that Adam is always thinking about his friends and fellow artists. He is also very complementary of the other idols. I admire him for that.

  • LisaE

Until then, he has to take the Idol constituency into account. If he didn’t want to accept that fact of life, he shouldn’t have auditioned for the show.

There is no “Idol constituency.” The “Idol constituency” is everyone. And you simply can’t please everyone (although Carrie Underwood has tried).

  • Squirrely

Will- what’s the difference of him giving his friends homoerotic video a shout out and his stating his favorite movie is Velvet Goldmine? He’s not doing the things in this video or the movie and in my opinion the movie is way more risque especially his favorite scene. Also he said numerous times how much he loves Hair! saw that this weekend in NYC – lots of touching, grabbing, rubbing and nudity up close and personal. ‘Same Jacket?: check
    Similar Physique?: check
Similar Height?: check (Cassidy is about one inch shorter than 6′ ²1′ ³)’

Yeah, having been through this debate weeks, maybe months ago on TWoP, I’m with the ‘no,’ side, but can’t be compelled to come up with all the evidence against it. I think they credited some guy for it at the end, yadda. Though evidently it’s a clear reference to someone. Uhem.

Ok this made me go back and re-watch the vid, I really hoped I wouldn’t have to do that today – earworm.
My conclusion, it’s not Adam. The guy in the video doesn’t have love handles; Check out the bit with Cassidy kneeling, the unknown man’s shirt is lifted so you can see his lower waist.
No love handles, not Adam, unless ofcourse it was filmed during the early Idol months, which I doubt.

I have to agree with you Sunn. Lord knows his love handles have caused enough stir from the first day of the tour and as thin as he is now he still has those love handles.

I think the girls are all close because of their bus situation (hence hearing Allison’s recordings). I also think Adam and Megan have been close since the show. I’m remembering on a couple of occasions, Adam and Megan had their arms around each other at the end of the results shows.

It was the thought of what the media would make of the link being sent to all of Adam’s followers, including his very young ones, that gave me pause. And that has more to do with what the media will make of it than anything else. I see the potential for this turning into a PR nightmare for Adam. That’s why I said it was a mistake.

I misunderstood your issue with Adam tweeting the video, I thought you had a problem that it was a man rubbing a man, because I agree that it could be a PR mistake but then again most of the people I brought up prior all had made huge PR mistakes and cried all the way to the bank. Not saying that will happen with Adam or he at this point will be anywhere near as popular but I don’t think this will be the nail in the coffin sort of PR mistake. With all that said I still hate the video and still more upset Adam tweeted a bad song/video. One thing I agree with it may have been better for him to a least say in the tweet that Video had adult content.

  • sidewalkstory

I think Adam needs to stop responding to these one or two negative twitters’“ as with the case of the people complaining over the signings’“those people mostly just want attention.

I agree that Adam should just ignore the negative remarks. It’s a no-win situation for him. People will forget the name of the troll but no one will forget what Adam has said. And when troll #1 goes away troll #2 will appear.

  • tinawina

Aw c’mon. Really? I am not offended by the video, but it is, undeniably at least to me, pretty raunchy. In addition to all the making out, at one point one guy drops to his knees apparently getting ready to deliver a BJ to the other. LOL. And the lyrics are all god/devil type stuff. He named the song Whiskey In Church! Dude is clearly trying to be provocative here, so what’s the big deal in saying he succeeded?

I don’t see a lot of graphic gay sex on MTV. Yes it is an unfair double standard, but it is real. So OF COURSE it is a little more out there than one would necessarily normally see twittered from a guy from American Idol. There is a little bit of risk in doing something like that IMO.

I don’t think it is anywhere near a scandal yet and I don’t think it will be one, but I also don’t think it is unreasonable to think people might be 1. surprised, 2. offended or 3. worried that there might be some blowback. Geesh.

Adam’s main audience is still in America. Even if we leave America and consider the internet it seems the word’s most popular usage is potentially offensive. 6) Acronym for The War Against Terrorism.

Do you think they understand they can’t get with him because he’s gay?

I hate this question with a passion. Female fans can love Adam and find him sexy and attractive. They can even fantasize if they so desire. It doesn’t matter if he’s gay or straight…he’s hot and nothing else matters. It’s all just flattering to him and in good fun. It’s the same as all those little girls who think they’ll marry Kris. I’m American and a woman and I’m not offended one bit. Most people I know who use the word twat mean stupid, just like I still know people who use the original definition of the word gay, which is to be happy.

  • Chipmunk

It doesnt matter how many british and american interps of the word Twat exist. The person in question who twatted has explained the context within which he used the word. Works for me, and we continue to twat away as the world continues to revolve on its axis.

How about Bruno’s naked butt sticking in Eminem’s face at the 2009 MTV movie awards? Does anyone have a link to this picture that was PLASTERED ALL OVER THE INTERNET?

That. And at the same event, an award winner kept humping with a chair, iirc. No one put a finger on that. Probably because it’s with chair? Talk about equality.

  • CindyM

Thanks Vada for the link to Kris’s ultimate interview. This interviewer is so good and I’m looking forward to learning more about Kris.

    My thoughts:

The interview made me feel kinda sad for his dad, having to give up performing in order to support his family. I’m sure he doesn’t regret it, but it still made me feel a little sad. I’m glad Kris was able to fulfill his musical dreams. I love that his parents encouraged him in that regard. From other things he’s said, I don’t think his in-laws were quite as encouraging.

I love that he’s self-taught on the guitar. I would imagine his viola training enabled him to read music, but it’s wonderful that he can play as well as he does without any formal training. I understand the “cool” factor in orchestra, I played the violin from 4th grade to 9th grade, but quit when high school started because of that. I so wish I could do that over, I would make a different decision. Ah, what time and maturity will do to you..lol.

Wow, he’s been with Katy forever. Their lives must be changing so much right now, I’m glad he has that stability of a relationship with her to keep him grounded. All of these idols need strong friends and family in their lives during these times.

  • AllenTX

Do you think they understand they can’t get with him because he’s gay?

    Snuffles:

There’s absolutely no indication that Kris is behind on his album. He has said in every interview that the plan is it will drop before Thanksgiving. And lord knows he has donepretty much nothing but work on his album on what are supposed to be days off for the tour. It’s probably very much on schedule.

He and Megan get along fine, but don’t seem particularly close — so there is no reason why she would have heard his stuff. In fact, I’d be surprised if any of the other Idols besides Adam (and maybe Allison) have heard anything that Kris is working on. He is playing this very close to the vest. Megan seems much closer to Allison and Adam than she is to Kris, and they seem more open to letting people hear what they are doing.

Adam was aware of the meaning of the word. He was on the bus at 4AM after the Tacoma concert, and started …er… twatting.

“So – when I read lame, boring tweets I call them TWATS.”

“Twitter is full of twats. Hahaha”

“Most of my tweets have been twats too. Guess I need to get more creative.”

“Anyone that found that offensive should best lighten up a bit. It’s funny.”

“And I’m completely sober actually. Just bored on the bus.”

So, then someone responds with something like “Breaking News: Adam Lambert doesn’t like twats!”

    He responded “That was hilarious.”

I really like his live interviews. Though yes, in his written work sometimes he comes off as someone trying to hard to be clever. But again what I like in his live stuff is that we get to actually see the idol fanboy and the general warmth of him, so for me (for you, mebbe) his live interviews work put him into context for the other stuff. His LA interviews and Tweets of that concert, made me a fan of Cantiello, and I had some reservations before.

Regarding “twat”, it depends on how it’s pronounced. :) If it rhymes with “cat” = not offensive. If it rhymes with “ought” = offensive.

One man vigorously rubbing another man’s crotch. That’s what.

Now I will issue a challenge to anybody who disagrees with me: Please post a link to a video that has been shown on MTV, or any other widely distributed cable channel, that shows anything even remotely equivalent to that. (Of course, there are some videos posted online that are the ‘uncut’ versions, but I’ll even make allowances for that.)

If the challenge is to find an MTV video with any explicit gay sexual imagery in it, I don’t believe anyone is going to find it because there are no openly gay male artists on the top 100 MTV videos this year. (They have aired some on LOGO and on the LOGO online hub.) There are a few videos that MTV has aired, like The Fabulous Miss Wendy’s “I Like Boys”, that have men kissing each other. And, of course, the MTV Skateboard – Gay Kiss ad. As far as I know, the first time MTV even aired a video of two men kissing was in January 2008.

But there are many MTV videos are more explicit than Cassidy’s video.

I think that even the US MTV-edit of Lady GaGa’s “Love Game” video is more explicit than Cassidy’s video. It is entirely in focus, and is not only shown on MTV but was #1 in popularity in the online on demand viewing. It’s now at #12.

Note: “Love Game” video is being aired all over the Americas but not in the UK or Europe.

When they were paired together for the interview it was considerable good luck on Megan’s part. Even though she had to stand there holding the mic while Adam switched jackets with the guy from TMZ, Megan would have not gotten the exposure otherwise.

Oh I can certainly see Adam sharing some of his cool new songs with Megan. Just like he tweeted his jacket before the first show and talked about the “secret” recording session.

We know that Allison and Megan hang out together, and like each other, so I can see Allison sharing songs with Megan, too.

And Kris seems like someone who wouldn’t share his demos with many people. As far as I know, he shared some of them with Adam and Allison. But that’s all that has been mentioned.

  • soveryMel

When I see Megan’s pictures in exposed hair curlers during the M&G, it just reinforces my white-trash image of her.

Ouch. While I’m not a super Megan fangirl, I recall back the first she wore curlers at the pre-concert press junk and was asked about it (grrr, can’t find it, but IIRC) she said that it takes quite a bit of time to do her hair, and the pre show prep is so hectic that it helps to have her started already — and that she doesn’t mind. I have mad respect for someone who is confident enough in herself or just doesn’t care about the magazine-ready outer-beauty crap to go to press/M&G/barricades like that in order to help other people out.

I also remember (man I wish I saved Megan interviews, I swear I’m not making this up) her talking about having difficulty standing up for herself, and while the pink dress/fuck me stilettos (not those words) were not what she would have chosen for herself, this tour is such a great opportunity for her that she was willing to wear what they wanted.

She’s gotten so reamed in almost every review for not only her vocals lacking, but for her hot pink dressup Idol Barbie that I agree with a poster in last night’s concert thread — The fro is a deliberate (albeit passive aggressive) middle finger to image that the producers have tried to saddle her with. She was willing in the beginning, and she’s apparently not allowed to change the whole vibe of the outfit now, but she’s doing what she can to fuck with it as much as possible. Go Megan!

As far as Megan and Adam, waaaay back in the early rounds, there were several behind the scenes moments when he’d have his arm around her and they’d be laughing together. Based on that and body language while they were on the couches during the season, I always assumed they were tight, like him and Lil seemed to be — although not quite the same as the proud big brother admiration and protectiveness he seems to have (along with Kris) for Allison. YMMV.

Wow, when did I become such a Megan stan??

  • sr4mjc

I am weighing in late with Cassidygate. But here’s my take anyway. I think whether intentionally or unintentionally this is great market research for Adam. He’s getting audience reaction to a video that might offend some people without ever making the video himself. Given the sales on the charts, I’d say it’s getting a better response than expected.

I don’t expect Adam to be making out with a girl in his videos, that would appear false to me. Nor to do expect him to be making out with Drake either. I do expect he might show a bit of many types of couples like in Melissa Etheridge’s videos, that I can see. Equal opportunity for every one.

And Cassidy bumping against a headless dude, whatevs…

I think a lot of Kris fans like him just the way he is. To me Kris represents all of the musicians out there that are struggling to make a career out of something they love to do. Most of them do not have Hollywood connections, years in theater, and experience doing interviews. I enjoy reading Kris’s interviews and hearing him speak in his interviews because he is an every day guy that finally caught a break. So what if he is not the most eloquent speaker, he is just being himself and I wouldn’t want anything else. Plus, when he starts singing nothing else matters.

I was going to talk about how much I loved Kris’s interview with Boston.com, but then the first part of the epic L.A. Times interview was posted! It was really cool to read about Kris’s early love for music and playing gigs in Arkansas. He’s shared bits and pieces of those stories before but it was great to see them get fleshed out. I can’t wait for the next three parts.

Hope other interviewers take note of that Boston interview. Don’t ask him how his album is going. That won’t get you anywhere. Ask him about specific collaborations and he’ll start to share a little. I hope someone asks him about Daughtry and Mike Elizondo soon.

And I must have missed something in that Megan interview. I read where she praised Adam’s and Allison’s upcoming projects. But somehow she’s getting called white trash and told she should be grateful for being allowed to stand next to Adam for 10 minutes. Good grief.

Nor to do expect him to be making out with Drake either.

Well, not with Drake specifically, but if he does do a video which involves romance and him kissing someone (as many, many artists do), then I hope it’s a man, at least some of the time. Partly because that’s hot, but mostly because that should be no different from kissing a woman. It’s 2009.

Looking forward to 3 more parts of the Kris interview–I know he doesn’t like discussing religion that much, which is admirable, but in addition to hearing more about his music I would be interested in hearing more about his missionary work. And Kris’s album will be released in November just like Adam’s and probably Allison’s. Adam seems like he’s used to collaborations involving many people, so I can see him wanting to get as much feedback as possible on his music, but Kris seems like he wouldn’t show his music to many people. Just different styles of working, and I personally find it both adorable and smart that Kris and Adam appear to be serious about getting feedback from each other on their songs. Those guys really have mad respect for each other musically.

  • snuffles

Hey man, I LOVED that she wore hair rollers to a meet & greet! Cracked me up! And I agree with the comment that she has problems standing up for herself. I got to meet her in LA and chatted with her a bit. I was telling her how much I like her style and wished she could have gotten to sing a Bjork song.

Poor girl sighed and said she wanted to but the tour producers wouldn’t let her. They told her that she had to pick more well known songs. I could tell she was pretty bummed about it.

  • Squirrely

There is a whole LOT of questions in Kris’ interview but it may have been the only way to get the information out of him. Adam gave complete expanded answers so the interviewer didn’t have to do much. For Kris and Allison it my be heavy in questions of the Q&A but the end results will be the same, we will learn stuff we never knew before.

Megan is so sweet. I love her honest and straightforward attitude. It’s too bad she didn’t stand up for herself and choose her own style for this tour. She’s supposed to be presenting herself as an artist, but they turned her into the resident barbie doll.

Her music– childrens/jazz/other style I can’t remember– sounds interesting. But sadly, it doesn’t look like the musical opportunities are lining up for her. Maybe she’ll make it as an indie artist.

I don’t think Megan is “white trash” and she has never done anything that makes her seem like she is a gold-digger of any sort.

She so pretty that people assume that she’s stupid, but in her interviews she does fine. She’s not masterful but certainly hasn’t said anything thoughtless or ignorant.

I actually feel really sorry for her — stuck wearing those 4″ heels and dress like slut Barbie. She deserves better.

lol Yes, as I was reading I was getting the urge to shake Kris myself and tell him to be a little more expansive. At least this interview is persistent and approaches from a different direction when the first question doesn’t yield much information. Based upon most of the Kris interviews I watch and read, I think that interviewing people must be becoming a lost skill for journalists.

But there are many MTV videos are more explicit than Cassidy’s video.

I think that even the US MTV-edit of Lady GaGa’s ‘Love Game’ video is more explicit than Cassidy’s video. It is entirely in focus, and is not only shown on MTV but was #1 in popularity in the online on demand viewing. It’s now at #12.

Close, but no cigar Q3! I’m not going to belabor this point any further, after all we have a 12-year-old reading these comments! But the one brief scene in the Cassidy video is MUCH more explicit than anything in GaGa’s video, crotch-grabbing included. If the video was submitted to MTV or Logo, I’d wager it would have to be removed. No big deal, except for the fact that it was sent out to everyone who follows Adam.

Who told Megan she can rock an afro!

If Megan is a gold digger, then who is she trying to get her hooks into?

A gold digger of sorts is what I said. I just can’t find the right expression for her. Megan strikes me as someone who is not genuine and has ulterior motives. It’s my take on her. I have not been able to shake it since the beginning.

I can’t say it any better than you have. I love Kris just the way he is and I am enjoying watching him grow as a celebrity.

But I’m confused, who is Kris not like here? And are they the dancer? Or are they phone?

Anyhew, I think there are plenty of people struggling, even in Hollywood, and for years while doing so. I mean, didn’t you see Pretty Woman? the crazy guy’s speech at the end really spoke to me about that. That and the the importance of shopping, is what I got from that film. I’m sure Adam would agree with me about the latter, at least.

That’s not being a gold digger. A gold digger is a woman or man trying to get their hooks into a rich man or woman to marry or at the very least get them to buy them stuff.

There is a whole LOT of questions in Kris’ interview but it may have been the only way to get the information out of him.”

I chuckled a little bit when I saw the Kris interview. Lots of questions there compared to Adam’s interview. Kris speaks in phrases or sentences, while Adam speaks in paragraphs. That boy really does like to talk! :)

Ok, I just watched the Cassidy video. That’s three minutes of my life that I’ll never get back. It’s no Chacarron.

  • Sherena

I’m going to be shallow and say I liked Cassidy’s video because he is ridiculously hot. And these tweets:

#20 now!!! good lord…@adamlambert you have the midas touch BB!

Ahhhhhh! 16??? Are you kidding me??

My EP is #11 on itunes top electronic albums!

im in shock. absolute shock. like cannot move, jaw dropped, eyes like bugs.

Aww. It seems like Adam’s little bit of publicity helped out.

  • unique28v

How is it that Jim was easily able to get an interview w/Kris, but he has to tweet Adam to have his peeps call his peeps. That’s not how it should work.

Maybe AI only lets MTV have access to the winner for now.

“Here’s another tweet from him: AdamlambertHahaha. I’m completely enjoying this. It’s hilarious. That’s why I retweeted her ignorant twat. ;)

Wow. I think that may be the most offensive thing I’ve ever heard any idol contestant say. I thought it was bad enough when he took offense to David Cook’s comment about not having glitter at his shows (as if that was even about Adam anyway, which is crazy) but this… this is just beyond an expectation of how low he could go. What a complete a-hole.

I was starting to feel sorry for Adam as with all the expectations that have been laid on him and all the hype surrounding him there’s almost no way to not look like a failure if he hits anything less than Michael Jackson-like success, but any sympathy I might have had for his plight evaporated when he was tasteless enough to publicly name-call some poor woman with one of the most offensive and anti-woman labels that exists.

I actually liked him on Idol (even though I was pulling more for Kris, there just wasn’t anybody I could really get behind this year) even though I think he’s a pop star only and comes off fake when he’s trying to be a rocker, but there’s no doubt he’s one of the most talented (if not most talented) vocalists ever to appear on the show. But any chance that I would ever pick up one of his albums just evaporated with that classless and tasteless attack.

    Just… wow. What a scumbag

Also I get that a lot of 16 year-olds (and under) are gonna say ‘hey it’s no big deal, nothing we haven’t seen before’. That doesn’t excuse the fact that recommending something sexually suggestive to an underage audience is inappropriate and repugnant. I’m not surprised no one bats an eye anymore; we just spent a month celebrating the tragic death of Michael Jackson, and I didn’t hear a peep about all the child molestation charges (you would have thought the man walked on water and cured cancer for crying out loud). I’m no prude but thrusting sexual imagery in front of minors makes me uncomfortable. I’m sure it was unintentional, but when it happens the thing to do is apologize.

I only watched the first half of that Lady GaGa video and I saw her rub her half naked butt on a man’s crotch twice. Then I saw a man grab her breast twice and then she rubbed her crotch on a guy’s stomach. I’m thinking if this video and Bruno’s naked butt in someones face skit made it onto MTV, that the 2 sec. grotch-rubbing might not be a problem!

Itunes displays the charts in their store somewhere. I just know it’s easy to check, but I haven’t checked them before so I don’t know exactly where.

Where is he [Cassidy] looking to see this information?

    Bring up itunes
In the box that says “itunes Store” in the upper left, use the pull down menu next to Music to pick Electronic
Click on “Top Albums”, right side, lower portion of screen

Adam did not take offense to that statement. His fans did.

  • Susan M.

I thought the comment from the other girl was unnecessary about Adam being a big shot so he didn’t come out to interview. You can imply that Sarver, Lil, Anoop and Allison were big shots too because they didn’t come out either.

She could of been kidding or missing so many signings are starting to take a toll.

Obviously the journalists know they rotate press days and she certainly could have said that. Lame.

@Daniel, the tweet has been discussed and re-discussed; for the background and origin of the term as it’s used in this context, just read back through the tread.

  • Truthiness

Adam did not take offense to that statement. His fans did.

Most of his fans did not, though. I for one, didn’t and again, only a very few, did.

And he called the person’s tweet to him an ignorant twat.

To be clear here, Adam said that useless tweets where what he called twats. And he said his own tweets, were mostly twats because they weren’t terribly creative.

Adam never took offense at DC’s glitter comment. There were a number of people on this board who got upset about it, but Adam did not make any negative comments about it.

Re: Adam’s “twat” comment, he probably should have just ignored the woman. However, she sent multiple negative tweets to him and other idols on tour (check out her account). She was seriously OTT — after it was just a not-so-great video. I can understand why he was annoyed, although as I said earlier, his response was ill-advised.

Awww, poor Megan. As I mentioned in my concert review, I think that Megan has such an interesting quality to her voice–I would be quite anxious to see what the outcome would be if she had some vocal training and more experience under her belt.

And as for her personally, she came down the line at the Rochester barricade wearing a bright yellow t-shirt, her hair pulled back into a simple knot at the base of her neck, face freshly scrubbed, and she looked like a porcelain doll. She moved slowly, replied to everyone who spoke to her, posed patiently for a picture for my daughter (who was so excited that she needed to get a grip on the camera and Megan waited) and was so sweetly and shyly grateful for the attention and compliments.

I wish her all the best.
