J.Lo’s ‘Idol’ return is not necessarily good news

With Jennifer Lopez back in the fold, “American Idol” will return for its 11th season with the same judging panel it had a year ago. The trio of J.Lo, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson got a lot of credit for giving “Idol” a fresh face and a gentler attitude that kept it a ratings powerhouse despite the loss of Simon Cowell. So that means it’s good news that all three are back, right?

Not necessarily.

Simon Cowell Dishes on Paula and His Super Anti-Aging Secret

“Extra’s” Terri Seymour spoke to “X Factor” creator Simon Cowell about his dream team of judges, including Paula Abdul, and his hopes of possibly signing Mariah Carey.

Revealing the chemistry between he and Paula is still strong, Cowell said, “It’s never been happier.”

The executive producer still wants new mom Mariah to join the show, saying, “We just have to decide what [Carey will be doing on the show],” adding, “It’s top secret, I can’t tell you!”

Cowell continued, “Mariah wants to be, in her own words, ‘judging the judges,’ literally with a throne and a raised platform… and I’m not kidding.”

Interview: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ judge Mary Murphy talks about her dance with death

On “So You Think You Can Dance,” ballroom expert Mary Murphy is known for her ear-splitting shrieks, soaring whooos and generally being the most excited person on the judges’ panel. But after a bout with thyroid cancer, Murphy was decidedly low key when she returned to the show, giving all of us a chance to feel a little sad about the lack of Hot Tamale train action during a season when it seemed the most worthy. During a conversation at the Fox TCA after-party, I asked Murphy how she was doing, how she felt about changes to the structure of the top 20 and what she’d love to do for the finale — but, unfortunately, won’t be able to.

Travis Wall’s Top 10

With the finale of So You Think You Can Dance season eight upon us, I began to think about my all-time favorite routines. And one name continually bubbled up: Travis Wall. Whether he was dancing or choreographing, the season two runner-up ended up with more than half my top spots. That made me curious about which routines Travis considers his favorites.

So TheInsider.com tasked the Emmy nominee with picking his 10 favorite routines, with one restriction: any piece he was involved with couldn’t be in contention. So while we adore Jason & Jeanine’s season five piece and Allison & Robert’s Fix You from season seven, they were off limits!

‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Travis Wall predicts the winner and tells us what’s next

Travis Wall is sad to report that you will not see him in this week’s So You Think You Can Dance two-part finale. The Emmy-nominated choreographer, and season 2 SYTYCD runner-up, tells EW, “I was supposed to do the finale, but I had to cancel because I got the movie.” Indeed, Wall is currently in Miami creating contemporary pieces for Step Up 4, starring season 6 contestant, and season 7 and 8 All Star, Kathryn McCormick. “It’s my first movie to choreograph,” he says. “I’m really excited.”

But back to SYTYCD: After getting his first shot on the judges’ panel this year, who does he think should take the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer” this season? “This is by far the strongest top four we’ve ever had,” notes Wall. “I’ve been pulling for Melanie [Moore] from day one. I feel that not only is she the best dancer, but her personality is great.”

So happy for the Japanese fans that David A. has been asked to headline at the Foster Festival. Word has it that fans from some of the other Asia countries will be flying in as well. Many were disappointed when the Aug concert was cancelled due to Typhoon warnings. Luckily they avoided the worst of the storm although very high winds and lots of rain. Am sure David is excited as he has always wanted to go to Japan.
David Asian edition of TOSOD is reportedly selling well and Everything and More and other new songs are getting played on radio stations in the Phillipines, Malaysia,Indonesia and Viet Nam.

David Asian edition of TOSOD is reportedly selling well and Everything and More and other new songs are getting played on radio stations in the Phillipines, Malaysia,Indonesia and Viet Nam.

I got my copy of the Asian edition of TOSOD from CDWOW. The four new songs are great. I think the back of the CD indicates that 19 may be out of the picture because it does not show 19 as licensing the 4 new songs to Sony. It says: “Tracks 1 to 13 copyright 2010 19 Recordings Ltd. under exclusive license to Jive Records copyright 2010 Jive Records, a unit of Sony Music Entertainment. Tracks 14-17 (new songs) copyright 2011 Sony Music Entertainment Asia Inc.”. So David appears to be free from 19. Probably explains why 19 never stood up after David left Jive to say David is still with 19R, like it did with Blake Lewis post Arista and Allison Iraheta post Jive. Good for him.

The new song Everything and More should have been on the original album and I think should have been the first single over Something Bout Love. It’s great and deserves the airplay it is getting. Hopefully David and Sony Asia can get the song released in North America or placed on a music soundtrack. The lyrics really work with the Twilight movie themes.

Wow, so Crystal cut off her dreds?? I wonder if she went all short, she’s got a beautiful face, I think short hair would look pretty on her.

She’s not disputing twitter followers comments on it!

  • Andy11

Crystal’s ace in the hole has always been how pretty she is. I noticed the lip piercing went away a while ago and now the dreads. Add in the exercise and weight loss. Since she’s heading for Nashville this all seems like a smart career move. Edit: nope she tweeted it was just a trim–but I will boldly predict that the dreads will be gone within the next six months.

This is sort of fun. Birmingham AL station has posted video from Danny’s listener event today. Rare to see (never seen?) Danny backed by just a single acoustic guitar (Matt Reviere, Danny’s lead guitarist).

He’s not performing Second Hand Heart in the posted videos, maybe because it was played on air?

ETA: SHH was posted, maybe just not in time to make their post today.

Just playin. I did cut a few inches on some of them though:) general maintenance…. Had ya goin though, eh?

  • Indigobunting

    Oh good.

I like Crystal’s in your face “I’m who I am” attitude and would be a little disillusioned if she tried to be more of a Nashville country barbie, even if she does want to get in that market.

Rare to see (never seen?) Danny backed by just a single acoustic guitar (Matt Reviere, Danny’s lead guitarist).

I haven’t listened yet, but that is rare; usually Brandon (keyboardist) comes with. Interesting!

  • Andy11

Lol. Crystal will never be a Barbie. Just not sure how much of a turn off dreads are to country music fans. Maybe a lot of them are actually closet Rastafarians…

May the stars line up and make this a reality. David so deserves it.

I’m so happy for David and Japan, it’s great that Japan didn’t give up and was able to work this out.

Now that David will be going to Japan I’m hoping we’ll get these two songs live that were bonus songs on the Japanese versions of David’s CDs.

Just finished listening to Zero Gravity, Wait, and Everything and More over at YT and am wondering why those three songs didn’t make the TOSOD album? They really are good! David is very diverse too! Saw the video of his upcoming DVD concert with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He’s incredible in that too and cleans up very nicely in a tuxedo! He’s gorgeous looking!

Stars and Stripes: ‘American Idol’ singers delight Yokota audience

Those performing were: Jovany Barreto, Chelsea Sorrell, Colin Benward, Janell Wheeler, Jimmie Allen, John Wayne Schulz, Rachel Zevita and Ta-Tynisa Wilson.

The Idols will be heading next to Misawa Air Base, followed by a performance at Camp Zama and Atsugi Naval Air Base before departing Japan.

Strange collection of ex contestants. One semifinalist from S9, three from S10 and the other four never made it to the live shows.
I’m sure they can all sing pretty well tough.
If I had to guess, Rachel was the one performing Adam’s song and probably Chelsea sung Kelly.

ETA: Also in the video Jimmie Allen is performing Live Like We’re Dying
