Scotty McCreery In Nashville

A lot of kids your age are getting ready for school, so what are your plans for this year? I’ll be doing school on the road, my mom is a certified teacher, and she won’t cut me any slack. She’ll be my tutor, but I’ll still be enrolled with my school back home. So I’ll turn in papers with them. Once the tour is done, I’ll head back, because it’s my senior year, I don’t want to miss out on any memories.

College plans? I’m hoping to go into college right out of high school like any normal kid, hopefully Belmont in Nashville so I can study music while I’m doing the career. I’m young, so I have a lot to learn.

Singing the praises of Bob Dylan

With all that mind, we’ve asked some musicians with local ties to weigh in on Dylan, given that his artistic shadow is cast so far and so deep that you generally can’t come of age as a songwriter post-1961 and not be heavily influenced by his work.

Crystal Bowersox – Singer/songwriter from Elliston, Ohio, who was the 2010 American Idol runner-up:

“When I think of Dylan, I think of poetry, activism, and folk with a function. Saying his name alone is enough to conjure up the memories of a not-so-distant time, when apathy didn’t seem to peek its lazy head into the hearts of our youth. Dylan was not necessarily ahead of his time; he was in the perfect place and time to inspire an entire generation, and many generations to come.”

I don’t have the link to the article about Carrie’s worldwide album sales, but it was reported on one of the country music sites earlier this year. I believe it was around the time that sites were reporting on Carrie surpassing Kelly’s US numbers.

According to Wikipedia, Carrie has sold so far 12.3 million albums in the US and 14 million worldwide, so she’s sold about 1.7 outside the US. She also has sold 18.5 million singles in the US, 22 million worldwide, which may be where you were getting the 4 million difference from. They site a Billboard article as well as Nielsen SoundScan.

Her numbers are always super impressive.

Ammm… Not sure I want to step into this conversation.
But since we so often hear about the astronomical amount of money poured by labels into promotion of singles in US, how come no one is comparing the costs of breaking A.I. alumni in U.S. to the costs of breaking X-factor alumni in UK?
I actually would love to hear about that, since I do not know much about how the game is played in UK.

  • Valentin432

THe UK X Factor is an extremely successfull show, the ratings are massive for the size of the UK and what’s more impressive, it has grown quite steadily since its first season.

As far as success of the contestants go, I believe AI has had more success stories but the X factor has had some good ones too.

The question is wheter the show can succeed in the US market by reproducing the exact same format and wheter the competition with AI and The Voice will hinder it.

It was an Entertainment Weekly article that said Carrie’s sold 16 million albums worldwide. I remember being surprised by that, it seemed a little high. 14 million worldwide makes more sense IMO. No idea what their source was and a quick google isn’t pulling up the article now. It was an article mentioning sales for Rihanna, Gaga, Kelly, Taylor Swift, and Carrie.

Carrie’s recent time in Australia was a promo tour (her 1st there) promoting a deluxe version of Play On that has spent at least 2 weeks at #1 on the ARIA country albums chart and I believe has peaked at #14 on the ARIA top albums chart (the regular version had peaked in the 80s I think). She has had multiple top 10 hits on the Australian country charts. I’m not sure about her highest peaking song on the ARIA Top Songs chart but it’s probably Undo It which is on Australian radio now as the single promoting the deluxe version of Play On.

Carrie has said her promo tour in Australia was meant to set up a future concert tour (IMO moreso than generate a lot of album sales). There’s a chance the initial plans for that will be unveiled in the next couple of days with the revelation of the headliners of March 2012′s CMC Rocks The Hunter festival.

As far as I know, there is no publicly available information about how much is spent to break an Idol artist in U.S. I’ve always said it is RIDICULOUS to compare sales without comparing the expenses used to generate those sales. There was the one example of how much it would cost to make and promote Gwyneth’s Paltrow’s new album and as I recall, the sum was pretty large. It would be interesting to have a top 10 list of the most expensive Idol first albums to produce and market. That would make for some interesting conversation.

    Awww indeed.
Is Kris still in LA ? He wrote a lot lately, so I assume he is still in LA although he wrote a lot too back in Nashville. It’s a blur now. He needs to stop writing and record something, cause I’m getting impatient. :)

Thanks Windmills I probably used the wrong wording before but yes she was here to do some promotion for the album & future widespread tour here but did perform here in a few places. Carrie is definitely well known in Country circles here[ my husband us a big country music fan ]& yes for a country artist she has had good sales here. The success of Keith Urban & Lady A concerts here to more mainstream audiences probably also bodes well for future concerts .

Oh ,Kris & his friends are good samaritans aren’t they helping out someone in need.

    Kris is still in L.A.

Very cool of him and his friends to help that lady out when her car broke down. Living in L.A., I can say that people stopping to help doesn’t seem to happen all that often…

I don’t really believe that she has sold over 4 million albums outside of the US. She has never had an international hit song and she is still unknown in Europe.
