Among the big news from singers on the tour: Phil will quit his day job

Phil Stacey is getting out of the Navy as soon as the American Idols Live tour is over. Jordin Sparks is not as tall as you think. LaKisha Jones is tiny and wears a heavy coat and scarf, even on an absurdly hot Jacksonville afternoon.

That was some of the information and observations that came out as some of the American Idol performers met with the media Sunday afternoon before their concert at Veterans Memorial Arena….

The truth is, it was a fun evening. There was nothing edgy about it, of course. It is American Idol.     Season 6 Idols — Where’s the buzz?
    Maybe the onset of the Idol tour will change the situation, but I’m feeling a distinct lack of buzz about the current crop of Idols. I’m sure they were out there singing national anthems and gladhanding the public and all, but it seems to me there has been a lot more furor about Kelly Clarkson’s album or Daughtry’s conquest of the Western world as we know it, or Elliott’s underdog ascent or Taylor and Katharine’s perceived failures than anything much about Jordin, Blake and the rest of the Season 6 crew.

    Melinda needs to stop referring to Jordin as her “baby girl” and that she’s the mom of the group. Makes her sound so much older than 29.

    I don’t actually see that as a dis on Taylor and Kat. He calls it a perceived failure which indicates that he doesn’t necessarily think that they are failures.

    In any event, he’s saying that a year later, even the perceived failures of former idols is getting more buzz right now than the current crop.

    Sounds more like a dis on this year’s crop.

    In any event, this year’s crop has to get the word out. Press releases. Signings. Interviews. Maybe somebody could go for a swim in the pool. Get on a few red carpets. Heck, Ace went to a freakin’ dog fashion show last year to keep his name in the news. Last year about this time, Kellie was on the View, Taylor did a concert for GMA and Kat was about to do a press conference for B&S. Work it PR people! Work it!

    Maybe they made a mistake with the tour this year. Maybe they should make sure that they go through New York near the begining of the tour to keep the buzz up with talk show appearances?

    Does anyone actually think Jordin or Blake will have anywhere near the album success as former AI winners and runner ups? I sure don’t see Jordin or Blake as the second coming of Carrie or Kelly. Even “Do I Make You Proud” reached #17 on the AC Charts last year and stayed there for a respectable amount of time. Did This Is My Now make a dent on *any* chart? What do y’all think?

    About all the promo that Taylor and Kat had going for them last year (as opposed to this season’s crop)…my guess is that happened because neither Kat nor Taylor were repped by 19E…The FIRM kept Taylor’s face “out there” so much, I was afraid he was going to be over-exposed and there would be a backlash against him.

    I’m still not sure that didn’t happen.

Even comes with one door that won’t open!!!!!)

    2) Am I missing something, but shouldn’t they be starting out with a line of bedazzled shirts for the over 50 fans?

    3) Please tell me that they won’t force the Idols to wear clothes from this line on the show next year. (“I don’t care if you are 29, male and overweight, you are going to wear these Jr. Miss Low-rider Jeans with the American Idol flower bedazzled on the a$$”)

    I have no idea about Jordin but do think that Blake’s album will do well, Griz. It’s hard to compare the singles with previous seasons because of the studio mp3s they sold on the AI site before anything was released and there was never an actual record sold.
