OK, on behalf of my late bubbe (that's grandma in Yiddish), I gotta weigh in on this "shtick" discussion.

Yiddish expressions often have multiple meanings. In the Urban Dictionary, shtick has at least 7 meanings, including somebody's signature style, their stage routine, something that helps define what they do, or (pejoratively) their favorite gimmicks.

So please, let's not attach some kind of definitive meaning to this word that suggests the wrong usage.

Or there's this example from Merriam-Webster Dictionary if you prefer:

shtik: one's special trait, interest, or activity : their bag, as in: "he's alive and well and now doing his shtick out in Hollywood..."

Oh and btw the way thanks for the heads up on Ryan Adams. My husband brought several copies of his cds home from the library the other night to check him out.

Hope you enjoy him. Check out his Heartbreaker album. I think he's a heck of a songwriter, as do people like Elton John and Bob Dylan. I've been fortunate enough to see Ryan Adams and the Cardinals twice in the last year. Terrific stuff. Soundboard recordings of almost all of his concerts are available free at the Internet Archive. The band's sound engineers let tapers patch directly into the soundboard mix and a legion of fans upload these shows from the US, the UK, and Australia. Here's a really nice acoustic show from Boston two years ago:

http://www.archive.org/details/ra2007-06-29.remastered_flac_16

You can play the MP3 of the show directly from that site, or download high quality VBR MP3s from a link on the left side of the page.

Here's a really good electric show from this spring's tour:

That Seattle times clip is adorable, they are all so cute! Especially Matt and Danny, I love those guys together. Lil was making me smile too, she seems like she would be a lot of fun to be around. And Kris giving fashion advice about the shoes, you gotta love that!

Whoa!! That picture sure looks real. If it's a manipulation, who were they really kissing?

Hey Hey now Hamilton is not that bad, it's a better venue than Air Canada Centre in Toronto, In my Humble Opinion, Copps just is just a bit less cavernous so the acoustics are better' ¦' ¦.there is a cool area called Hess Village just down the road from Copps Coliseum, great bars and pubs and restaurants' ¦get some good Alexander Keith's ale eh? The coins are pretty and hey the Americans are introducing some colour gradually into the greenbacks. See with different coloured bills, easier to to decipher the bills when you've had too much ale eh?

Now I found the crowd a bit subdued in Toronto at the Idol concert last year, they were very loud but only the floor seats were really standing up for most of the concert, but I would blame the Idol crowd, I mean I had a grandmother who could barely walk, with a cane sitting in front of us, so no surprise she wasn't jumping up and down and dancing, a Dad with his kids besides us, and the girl was excited and the boy was I want to go home, is this over yet, but then there were 2 little boys a few rows up who were wild for David Cook, so adorable, and dancing the whole concert.

But even David Cook seemed a bit pissed off that not everyone was up standing and dancing - we in the stands and my friend was just standing up BEFORE the show even started and someone told her to sit down and we were like wow this is going to one sad ass section - we are used to going to concerts in many places in Ontario where no one sits down for the whole concert - dance dance dance - they were older folks who were grumps, they only came to life for Jason Castro, and then back to grumps after he was finished, though come to think of it my sister and I were told to sit down during Janet Jackson at the same venue, how can you sit to JJ' ¦..I think the Vancouver crowds are more spirited overall

Oh Good God - do not tell me this - I have never been to an AI concert and this is what I was afraid of (oh, and signs blocking my view). I am going to Hamilton, so when you see security hauling away a woman from the 8th row on the floor....it will be me - causing some sort of disturbance during Adam's set, because I WILL be standing....

The topic was the difficulty the kid who won seems to be having selling his closing set.

Not being scary...

To me, it's just more jazzy to imagine adults who "know" what to do - than an adult "instructing" a minor..

but clearly, there are those who find the "instruction" thing titilating.

Neverland.

I mean, never mind.
