Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta — American Idols to dye for

Adam has blue highlights in his jet-black hair. They weren’t always noticeable under televison lights, but they’re very apparent when meeting him in person. “They’re a little punched up now from where they were,” he says. “The inspiration was one of those black feathers, you know, that are kind of iridescent? I took that to my hairdressers and said, ‘Make my hair look like that!’”

Allison Iraheta, who sported dyed-red hair all season, now boasts a veritable rainbow of colors — pink, red, blue and green. “I got a little bored of the red,” she says. The additional colors are all new, added just in the past week.

Matt Giraud and Michael Sarver give a show before the show

When the Idols first arrived in Portland a few days ago, Matt Giraud got back to his roots as a hotel lounge piano player when he and Michael Sarver ran across a piano in their hotel lobby and started an impromptu late-night set.

“We found an old rickety piano,” Matt says, “and, since I’m a piano player, I can’t help it.”

“And, since I’m a singer, I can’t help it, either,” Michael says.

Anoop Desai, getting back up to speed

Shortly before Saturday night’s dress rehearsal, Anoop Desai was nursing a hot tea, trying to pamper his voice after a week of being under the weather.

“Last Friday, we had a pretty tough rehearsal, then I went out afterwards, so that did a number on my throat,” he says. “I was on vocal rest for about four or five days — I didn’t talk at all. As I was getting over that — I guess my immunity was low, because of whatever medication I was on — I caught something else. I’m getting over being on that. Most of these bugs are about a week long, so I’m on the last leg of it, hopefully.”

IDOLIZED

There was a time when Lindsey Cardinale could blend in as a college student on any campus across the country.

But then she appeared on the popular television show “American Idol” and is now recognized nationally.

Cardinale, who performed Friday evening at Betts Park for the Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration, was a finalist on the fourth season of “American Idol” in 2005.

Cardinale said Friday morning that she has been balancing singing and school in Nashville, Tenn.

The country singer said she is a journalism student with a minor in songwriting, and she has been fitting in shows between classes.

“I’m such a big school person,” Cardinale said, adding that she genuinely enjoys college and when she has a week off, she sometimes doesn’t know what to do with herself.

LA Ballet meets ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

Viewers of “So You Think You Can Dance” — now in its fifth summer season on Fox — were treated earlier this week to the competition’s first pointe-shoe performance: Contestants Ade Obayomi, 20, of Orange County and Melissa Sandvig, 29, of Los Alamitos were seen as literature’s most romantic (though unfortunately doomed) young couple in a graceful pas de deux from “Romeo and Juliet,” with Sandvig on her toes. The judges loved it.

And Culture Monster is pleased to report that the man who choreographed the pas de deux and coached Obayomi and Sandvig through their moves was none other than Thordal Christensen, who is co-artistic director of Los Angeles Ballet with his wife, Colleen Neary.

It’s great to hear good news from Lindsey Cardinale, many idols have to return to a normal lifestyle and she seems to be taking the positive side of it.
I remember that she had a very interesting voice but that never translated to the stage, maybee it would work better in a studio?

It’s great to hear good news from Lindsey Cardinale,

I agree, I loved her voice. She had that smoky, sexy quality that was great on quiet songs. She carried herself well, too. I thought she was seemed kinda classy.

  • abbysee

Glad dto see that TMZ still thinks that Taylor is worthy of the ribbing they give him. He looks pretty damn good topless too. Glad to see him relaxing, he works hard.

Over on the Idol Forums site, there is a post from someone who actually got to watch yesterday’s rehearsal and talk to most of the Idols (ok — now I’m jealous).

    Here’s the link:

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=608689&st=320

[if this link takes you to 1st page of the post, the comments about meeting the Idols are on page 17]

Also, on twitter @missanalia has some tweets about yesterday’s rehearsal as well. Evidently the guards let some fans in to watch, which is cool.

And some of the Idols themselves tweeted last night:

    Here’s Kris’ last tweet:

#Dress rehearsal went great. Can’t wait til the seats are filled#about 9 hours ago from TwitterFon

    And one from Allison:

#Soo very tired ..rehearsal Went supperrr well..can’t wait for tmrw..:) g’nite homieeessss… Luv ya xD#about 9 hours ago from TwitterFon

    Matt chimes in:

#Chillin backstage with @michaelsarver1 and @idolscott getting ready for the finale. Right now we’re singing for 20, 2mor..several thousand!!#about 11 hours ago from web

    And from Michael:

#Hanging out with the top 10 backstage. Just finnished our all out dress rehearsal. Everyone is so hyper.# Lol.about 10 hours ago from TwitterFon

    Funny tweet from Danny:

#Why does the biggest pimple ever have 2 find my face the day before r first show? I look like Rudolph’s lil brother. Thank God 4 makeup Lol#about 16 hours ago from Twitterrific

[oh no - poor Danny. Pimples always seem to pop up at the exact wrong moment]

‘We found an old rickety piano,’ Matt says, ‘and, since I’m a piano player, I can’t help it.’

‘And, since I’m a singer, I can’t help it, either,’ Michael says.

    That last comment is debatable….

  • JOJOSIE

If your an Adam fan start reading the Idol Forums post above at page 15 as that’s the start and where she tells about Adam’s performance. I don’t go to that web site much but found this very interesting. Sounds like the tour will be off to a good start and the show is always better live.

That last comment is debatable’ ¦.

I agree, butte009. I read and hear very little positive about Michael, so how did he get on the tour? Never mind, no need to regress. It would have been so nice to have Alexis instead. It would have also evened it out a bit with 6 guys and 4 girls instead of the 7-3 as it is. Oh well……… :furious_tb:

USA Today has a great set of blogs today on the Idols, Tour, etc. Here is the link: http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/

Lot’s of info and worth a look. The Adam piece has some more info on his album. Here’s the most informative part:

The resulting album, he says, will have elements of both classic rock and electronic music. “There’s a lot of anthems,” he says. “You know how We Will Rock You by Queen is an anthem that you can put in stadiums and people will sing along to it? There’s a lot of that on the record so far. A lot of power-anthemy, sing-along stuff.

“I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, but it’s not going to be what they heard on the show.” He thinks the closest comparison from the show might be his version of Steppenwolf’s Born to Be Wild. “It was a classic rock song, but there was this electro beat underneath it that was really new and fresh. And blending the two together, I think, is really something different.”

  • gabam

Just thought I’d post some pics from last night’s David Cook concert. It was their last night with opening act Ryan Star and it looks like there were shenanigans (no, Artie didn’t do a strip tease for David again). They did however take Barbasol literally and Artie and Ryan invaded the stage during Barbasol to (fake) shave during The Shaving Cream Song.

DC hits him some high notes when he’s singing harmony!
