‘Idolatry’: Adam Lambert digs into Glam Nation tour’s ‘pirate-gypsy-Keith Richards-psychedelic’ aesthetic
Not to worry, though, the American Idol season 8 runner-up proved to be a quick study, drawing inspiration from turn-of-the-century New Orleans, Dia de los Muertos, and John Galliano, among other things. Adam says he also wanted to make sure his show had “an emotional through-line” that took his audiences from a dark and seductive world to a mood of heartbreak and introspection — until they finally arrived at a place of joy and connectivity. But if you’re worried Mr. Lambert is getting too deep, fret not: “It’s all tongue-in-cheek. There’s rhinestones on everything,” he says. Press play below to get the full interview conducted backstage before Adam’s June 23 concert in New York City.
Katie Stevens was back in Southbury, Connecticut today, to attend her graduation from Pomperaug high school. Katie tweets, “So I haven’t tweeted all day! Didn’t want to spill my surprise! I came back to CT and attended my graduation! Amazing day!”
‘American Idol’ Runner-up Crystal Bowersox on Season 9 and Missing the ‘If I Can Dream’ House Visit
Have you started mapping out your CD yet?
Yep, yep. I’ve been in talk with Jive and figuring out what songs we’re going to do. Hopefully it’ll be all original and I can do some co-writing with some bigger names, and just kind of feel out what producer I want to work with and what artists. It’s all in talks right now. We’ve got some big names coming up that I will not disclose.
Well that was one of my other questions to — if anyone had ever approached you.
A lot of people, actually. A lot of legitimate musicians and songwriters have approached me — and it blows my mind. I can’t say who, but it’ll be a pleasant surprise once the album’s out.
Do you plan to use any of the songs you previously recorded on your new CD?
Will you be writing any new songs?
Yeah. I haven’t been able to write on the show, because I’ve been too busy. But I’ve got a little free time now. I hope to write some new tunes. Maybe they won’t make this CD; they might make the next CD. Right now, we’re definitely going to record my pre-’Idol’ songs. I’ve got a lot of them, so we’re trying to pick which one’s the best.
Date set?: Fisher-Underwood wedding rumours abound
The date has been top secret but July 10 makes sense because it’s a week after Underwood takes a break from her North American tour. Her tour resumes July 31 which leaves time for the big wedding and a quick honeymoon before Underwood returns to the road and Fisher starts his summer training.
And the rumoured location is the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., home of the Masters golf tournament. It was first believed the wedding ceremony would be held in Nashville where Underwood lives part of the year.

Second leg of Carrie Underwood Tour Continues this fall
Two-time reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood wrapped the first leg of her “Play On Tour” this past weekend in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada performing for nearly 400,000 fans since the launch on March 11. Underwood nearly sold out all 54 shows throughout North America, bringing along special guests Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia. The “Play On Tour” will continue this fall with shows launching September 25 in Portland, Oregon.
Underwood will perform a handful of fairs and festival dates this summer and will resume the “Play On Tour,” hydrated by vitamin water® and Presented AEG Live, this fall launching September 25 in Portland, Oregon with special guests Billy Currington and Sons of Sylvia. During the fall leg of the tour, Underwood will donate 36 cents of every ticket sold to Save the Children’s United States Programs. This initiative was inspired by the “36 cents” written in the lyrics of her album track “Change,” which addresses how even the smallest bit of spare change that one might have can add up to make a difference and help “change” the world.
Underwood will perform over 100 shows throughout the U.S. and Canada by the end of 2010.

AMERICAN IDOL’s Crystal Bowersox: ‘You Can’t Please Everyone’
So, yeah, back to the music: what song does she wish she’d gotten to perform on AI? And who does she think got gypped on the season finale?
Adam Lambert Says Tour Will Only Be As Wild As His Audience
It turns out Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour, currently playing to packed venues across the United States, is a relatively family-friendly affair. MTV News caught up with the singer backstage at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, where he shrugged off assumptions that his sold-out shows would not be suitable for grandma.
“What did you expect, nudity?” he laughed.
Interview with Kris Allen, a huge Braves fan
I’ve always liked Kris Allen. Solid musician, nice guy, perfectly deserving of the “Idol” crown. Scintillating? No. Controversial? Not in the least. Witty? Not especially. Relatable? Absolutely. He has no aggrandized ego or sense of self – just an Arkansas boy made good. Even during a quick interview with me by phone a few moments ago, he never sounds bored. He truly makes an effort to be engaged and answer questions the best he can.
He called in from the Alpharetta AT&T store, where he is now signing autographs and kissing babies. (I”m 600 miles away in Alexandria, Va. and did a phoner.). I hope he gets a good crowd.
Anyway, here are excerpts from the interview:
Clay Aiken — A Day in the Life
It’s the morning after Clay Aiken released his new album, ‘Tried and True.’ Backstage at ‘The View,’ the singer sits on a plush green sofa in his dressing room, surrounded by others but in his own world, eyes glues to his iPad as he waits for his call to set. Aiken starts his day out in a solitary mode, but perks up when he and his crew mull over which cover he should choose for an upcoming DVD release. Across the hall are the dressing rooms of Belinda Carlisle, who is also appearing on today’s show, and guest host and ‘Sex and the City’ actor Mario Cantone, both of whom Aiken chats with before going on camera.
Matthew Morrison & Kelly Brook: World Cup Date
Glee star Matthew Morrison gives a little tongue action while getting in some quality time with recently single British model/actress Kelly Brook in London on Wednesday (June 23).
Kelly, 30, was seen having lunch with friends at Scotts restaurant and then met up with Matthew, 31, to watch one of the World Cup soccer matches. The twosome cheered on England as they beat Slovenia, 1-0.
‘So You Think You Can Dance’: José, Robert, and Kent outside their comfort zones
When “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant José “Full Deck” Ruiz was assigned to a Bollywood style dance, he appeared stunned, confessing later that he didn’t even know how to spell Bollywood, much less how to dance it.
Also unfamiliar was his costume. When Zap2it caught up with him backstage after his performance, we asked if he ever thought he’d be on national television in a sparkly blue vest.
“Never in a million years,” he laughed.
America’s Got Talent Star Piers Morgan Weds
The America’s Got Talent judge tied the knot with British columnist Celia Walden Thursday in London.
Though Morgan’s fellow Britain’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden were not in attendance, that didn’t stop them from wishing the 45-year-old Brit well on the his big day.
“Piers got married today!! I could not be happier for my lovely friend!” Holden Tweeted. “Celia his wife is fabulous! Big party for us lot very soon.”
Catching up with ‘American Idol’ hero Nick Mitchell, aka Norman Gentle
Nick Mitchell isn’t ready to surrender the limelight just yet.
A Brookfield native, he used his comedic, headband-wearing alter ego — Norman Gentle — to become one of the top 25 finalists on the eighth season of “American Idol.” And while most “Idol” contestants who don’t win (and even some who do) fade into obscurity with their exit, Mitchell is still fighting for the microphone — literally.
In May, Mitchell released his debut single “Brit Slap!” — a tongue-in-cheek pop anthem inspired by British “Idol” judge Simon Cowell, who announced his departure from the show as its
