Wow, I disagree. It is most certainly the job of schools to teach the classics. What else would you have them teach when they are teaching English? Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s book and romance novels?

I agree that reading and a love of learning should be encouraged at home, but it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t rest solely on the parents. Most parents donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have a literature degree.

-------------------------------------
I absolutely agree there Albilymom. My mother never graduated high school until getting her GED after I graduated college. I didn't grow up having a mother who did a ton of reading to me. She never would have been able to help me with Great Expectations, etc. That is why we have English teachers-to teach us how to appreciate books that don't appear to deserve appreciating on the surface. LMOAO. (i think i made that one up, laugh my own a$$ off!) But even without any prompting, I was a huge book reader. I swear I read The Lord of the Rings twenty times by the end of high school. I continue to be book lover. My son also loves to read. Did you know that on average, people read 4 books a year? That is so sad to me. But I never would have gotten through some of the challenging books in high school without a good English teacher. Not all parents can help their children to understand challenging works.

BEAN99--so glad to hear you are watching Season 1 and Kelly. I watched every second and love her just as much as I do Taylor! For me, she has the "best voice" of anyone who has ever been on Idol! Ungodly powerful, a range most singers would kill for and every note perfection! She was just awesome! I love every note she sings..then and now...but I must admit.. I really miss what I pegged her "big notes". Just when you thought she had given everything in the very beginning...you were always blind-sided by the "real" big notes! Enjoy the season...it really was great!

And Taylor is not a country singer...period!

LOLOL Shabby! Yeah, I was looking for a black & white pic of Taylor blowing his harmonica with his nose with all the blue-haired ladies hanging on the stage staring up at him. Damn! You don't have that??? LOLOL.

See I knew if we talked long enough, we'd find something in common. :drunk_tb:

are you in the shabby chic business? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m looking for a particular old, primitive item.

I have no Taylor paraphernalia, if that is what you are getting at. :wink_ee:

To answer your question, no I am not in the shabby chic design business. I just like shabby chic things!

Which was my whole point. An analysis and group discussion of a great book like To Kill A Mockingbird in every jr. high class could only serve to benefit the students.

cococococococo....does Hannah have a book coming out? :)
