More concerts and celebrity appearances have been added to the 23rd annual Spiedie Fest & Balloon Rally, which will run Aug. 3-5 in Otsiningo Park in the Town of Dickinson. The festival will feature 40 hot air balloons, 250 arts and crafts vendors and lots of entertainment, including:

Hicks show canceled

Taylor Hicks, winner of last year’s “American Idol,” has canceled a performance set for July 1 at the Johnny Mercer Theatre.

A news release from AC Entertainment blamed a scheduling conflict.

Tickets purchased with a credit card automatically will be refunded. Those who paid with cash will have to go to the Savannah Civic Center box office for a refund.

Hicks won the “American Idol” competition in 2006 using a mix of blues, soul and funk. He called it “modern whomp.” His self-titled release debuted at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

Television: Woe-is-me reality TV gets a Shaq attack

…Consider Bravo’s “Hey, Paula,” Paula Abdul’s never-ending pity party at which she cries when she wants to. In next week’s opening episode, the “American Idol” head cheerleader says she is allowing cameras to document her personal life to prove she’s “just an everyday girl” and “just like everyone else.”

Yeah, Abdul’s assistants, housekeeper, publicist and wardrobe consultant remind me a lot of my own entourage, except hers actually exists.

In the first half hour, Abdul wants us to know that her schedule, even when “Idol” is not shooting, is inhuman. In one torturous 48-hour period, she has to walk the red carpet at the Grammys and hawk jewelry on QVC. In between, she somehow finds time to play with her dogs and berate her staff for not providing her favorite sweatpants for a plane trip.

If Abdul truly believes these antics will bring us closer to her, she is the William Hung of tact…

    WEB OF SILENCE: Webcasters, including L.A. radio station KCRW and its website KCRW.com, will join together for a Day of Silence next Tuesday (6/26). Stations and Internet radio sites will shut down regular programming as a protest against the new high music royalties for Internet radio, established by the Copyright Royalty Board in March. KCRW will produce a one-hour programà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ D-Day for Webcastersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  featuring Pandora, Live365, Yahoo, AccuRadio, SomaFM, indie webcaster Bagel Radio and public radio station WAMU/Washington, DC, among others. KCRW GM Ruth Seymour will moderate, as participants describe the effects that the new rates will have on their ability to stream and to serve audiences online. Webcasters are supporting the Internet Radio Equality Act, which has garnered bipartisan support in the House as well as the Senate.     Despite the album release being two months away British fans knew all the words to the songs and mobbed the band after the show.
    Rumour has it tickets were changing hands for  £300 plus on ebay in the run up to the gig.

    A lot of questions keep coming up if this is my page or not. It is!! I just got back online from not having control of my page because of American Idol contest rules and now its up and running.

    As of now, I’m am in rehersals for the A.I. tour and things are running smoothly. Got a lot of special things happening on the tour this year and I’m really excited for it to start. On top of tour, I have been in meetings with producers and writers for my album, which is set to come out sometime by Thanks Giving to Christmas. I can’t thank you enough for all the responses and support that has come from this amazing journey. I’ve been working hard for the last seven years on writing and performing and American Idol has been the best platform for me to reach out and communicate my art thus far. Thank you again for reaching back.

    Very soon I’ll be putting up some music, pictures and art I have been working on.

    I’m just speculating here (no facts; just opinion) but I think that Blake has a deal in place and it’s Jordin that is holding everything up with announcements. I’m sure one can be meeting with writers and producers without a record deal signed or even offered but for some reason, I don’t think Blake is having trouble getting a few offers (however small or big).

    …I found no drum set deal, but found someone selling lower-level seating tickets to Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Aug. 12 concert at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand for $75 each. The same person claimed to have tickets for Joe Walsh, Sugarland, Martina McBride and Gretchen Wilson (what, no Drake Bell?), and the listing actually read Celeste Center – a building on the Ohio State Fairgrounds, where Daughtry also is performing this summer.

    Still, a 177 percent markup on tickets for an Illinois State Fair show thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s two months away? Surely, Daughtry couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be sold out already.

    Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not, but the beloved à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  castoffà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s rock band has sold 7,308 tickets, as of Monday.

    Those advance sales are on pace with Rascal Flattsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ opening night Grandstand concert in 2005 that eventually drew 13,522 (just six fewer than Kenny Chesney in 2003 and 434 fewer than Hootie and the Blowfishà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Grandstand record).

    Fair director Amy Bliefnick assures fans there still are Daughtry tickets available at face value…

I checked buckys fansite and there is no news there he has gone platinum. Although his single and album are doing well, I dont think bucky is top 10 yet, but very close. He has some great songs on that cd.

    I saw Paul Potts on The Today Show and definately will buy his CD even though I am not a big opera music fan. I love his voice!!

    I listened to the audio sample of Taylor’s book and since his voice is my favorite of all, I just may have to buy the audio book! I wonder if there is any singing? Probably not.

    I much prefer Buckys cd to Daughtrys but I have a feeling the writer of that article is confusing bucky and chris cd sales. I checked buckys fansite and there is no news there he has gone platinum. Although his single and album are doing well, I dont think bucky is top 10 yet, but very close. He has some great songs on that cd.

    I don’t know what Clay’s official Soundscan numbers were for his debut album but I think it is some where around 2.75 million. Chris has sold 2.78 million so it is possible that Chris has sold more than Clay to have the second best selling debut album for any Idol contestant.

    The Dewey Beach, DE appearance was apparantly rescheduled for August 15. The new date has been on the tour list since at least yesterday morning. Ticket sales for the original date weren’t exactly spectacular with less than two weeks to go — but given the long Fourth holiday with many tourists on hand a lot of sales would have been on that day/night. He won’t have that ‘benefit’ for the August 15th date (a Wednesday).
