Last year Cookie gave me a hug at the AI concert.Archie signed a picture for me.And werent they recording on tour? I hope my top three can be part of the meet and greets.I mean atleast allison???

I am super interested in actually meeting the guys, getting autographs, etc. after the shows. Does anyone know how to do that? Every year I tell myself I’m going to, and every year I get too nervous (which is weird, because I’ve actually met a lot of celebrities in NY by waiting after theater shows (met Cyndi Lauper! Very funny and chatty in person (but short)!)

I actually appreciate Rob’s explanation of his perspective, not about Adam specifically, but his dislike for using reality show exposure as a pathway to “making it”. Because I always ask “rock snobs” (like my brother) the same question– “What about people like Bo Bice, Chris Daughtry, David Cook, Michael Johns etc. who have struggled for years “the legitimate way” to get their break and haven’t gotten it and see AI as their last chance, so to speak?”

Well, nobody, before Zombie ever provided me a direct response to that question. But, I get what he was saying, even if I don’t agree. It’s the fatalist point of view. If you do possess the chops to make it in the business, but you haven’t made it “the old-fashioned way”, then in the traditionalists’ view, you weren’t supposed to make it.

So, going the AI route is STILL not an acceptable road to them, even if you do fall into the “have-the-talent-but-haven’t-got-the-break” category. It simply wasn’t meant to happen for you. Interesting….

(However, I will say that the description of this scenario wouldn’t seem to apply to Adam– if he IS going to do ROCK– because he really HASN’T cut his teeth the “old-fashioned way”, trying to make it in the genre (his theater experience doesn’t count as trying to make it in “rock”). His band experience seems to be quite limited, compared to the others I mentioned. So, he actually WOULD fall under the category of people using Idol as a “shortcut” to become “rock stars”, rather than those who have tried the “long-road” and gotten nowhere.

Don’t know how you are reading your crystal ball, but it just doesn’t agree with mine. Only time will tell, unless perhaps some of us are living in the future. :annoyed_tb: I prefer to be more positive on this issue. JMO

I get the feeling that the meet and greets at the AI tour this year might not include a lot from 1, 2 and 4. Archie made himself available for long stretches during the tour–and he was recording constantly. Last year’s idols were also worked harder throughout the season.

Btw, did you all know Archie’s album has passed platinum outside the US? This would include sales in Australial and the UK. It’s doing particularly well in Asia. It has been #2 in the Philippines ever since the Manila concert; Cook’s cd is #5.

I don’t know what the other idols did, but from following DA, he did an amazing amount of autograph singing and meet and greets, even with his busy schedule. It was amazing.

Really not looking forward to Kris’ next interview, though. They’ll be back to talking about Adam all the time again. I guess he isn’t going to have to worry about not “staying grounded” for a while yet….

I’m sure glad this kind of stuff is done by “twenty” year olds. I can’t even imagine someone like Susan Whatshername having the energy to keep up with the demanding tour schedule for Britian’s Got Talent. Hope she just sings, travels, and goes to bed.

uh, that person who wrote that article must be NEW to Idol because people have been doing that for years since the early seasons.

LOL. I’ve noticed a lot of articles recently about the Idol voting system from non Idol viewers or reporters who are too lazy or cool to do Idol related research.

the texting option irks me bc im with verizon. but other than that, not sure what producers can change. limit calls per line? but that takes away from their glory of announcing the amount of votes at the beg of each show, heh.

David Archuleta of American Idol Woos Washington

Archuleta capped his two-day stay at a dinner for the conference last night. And while stars Shawn King and Terrance Howard performed, too, it was young Archuleta who earned a State Department standing O in the Benjamin Franklin Diplomatic Reception Room.
