Just for fun, for anyone who doesn't remember it, the lyrics to that song:

ARTIST: Dr. Hook
TITLE: On the Cover of Rolling Stone

Well we are big rock singers, we've got golden fingers
And we're loved everywhere we go
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth
At ten thousand dollars a show
We take all kind of pills to give us all kind of thrills
But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone

{Refrain}
Rolling Stone
Wanna see my picture on the cover
Rolling Stone
Wanna buy five copies for my mother
Rolling Stone
    Wanna see my smilin' face
On the cover of the Rolling Stone

I've got a freaky old lady name o' Cocaine Katy
Who embroiders on my jeans
I've got my poor old gray-haired Daddy
Drivin' my limousine
Now it's all designed to blow our minds
But our minds won't really be blown
Like the blow that'll get you when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone

{Refrain}

We got a lot of little teenage blue-eyed groupies
Who do anything we say
We got a genuine Indian guru
He's teachin' us a better way
We got all the friends that money can buy
So we never have to be alone
And we keep gettin' richer but we can't get our picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone

{Refrain}

The problem with Rock is that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very snobbish. There are many people who think Rock is some sort of golden thing that not everyone can touch. But the real world outside of that bubble doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have anything to do what those snobs think of rock. And thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s why bands like Nickelback, even if so hated, have tons of success, because they make music for the masses and everyone, and not music for a small group of people who think they are better and superior than all the rest.

Bravo. My sentiments exactly. Those rock snobs can go crawl back under their rocks. No pun intended. Seriously, f that.

Rock is a huge genre that encompasses all sorts of rock music. To try to limit it and decide what is "real rock" or "pure rock" sounds like the Nazis trying to maintain the pure race, or some religion that thinks they are the only ones who know the way to God. Seriously, talk about pretentious.

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not necessarily envy to wonder why the runner up gets more PR than the winner.

Um, because American Idol is a tv show, and Rolling Stone is a magazine in the real world? Yeah, something like that. Simon Fuller or Ken Warwick don't tell magazines in the real world what to do. LOL. Rolling Stone doesn't have to follow the Idol "rules".

The whole world is not involved in the Idol fan wars.

Yes, a RS cover still means something. It was immortalized by that song, "On the Cover of the Rolling Stone," after all. Great song, ha.

naomit
about Dannyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interview:
It is very hard to understand what is he saying. it is like even himself doesnt clearly know what he wants to say. and quite often he will say a few words, stop, and try to explain it in another way, which just makes me more confusedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

That's the thing that really bugs me about Danny - He NEVER clearly knows what he is trying to say. He stumbles and backtracks and repeats himself (repeatedly). Whenever I hear him speak, trying to figure out what he's saying gives me a headache. He & Paula must come from the same planet, because neither of them speak any human language I've ever encountered.

That being said, I haven't watched a single Danny interview since the end of the show (I have avoided them like the plague). I just had to vent a little, because it's morning (*not* a morning person!), it's going to be a perfectly beautiful hot sunny day and I'm stuck in the office until 5pm. Boohoo!
:help_tb: :glurps_tb: :annoyed_tb: LOL

JOJOSIE May 31st, 2009 at 11:46 pm

The article from www.adamlambertconnection.com was one of the most enlightening things I have ever read. It might give some who are so tired of the media coverage of Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sexuality a little more prospective in how this affects Adam and other gay youths. Gawker guy really met is match and more in the responder, who works with a youth hotline. Would be good for kids and adults to read as it has a powerful message. Good find. :clap_tb:

Thanks for posting about this, this is a powerful response to the Gawker guy. A must read for everyone.

Okay, this a depressing bunch of press stuff. I am sick of the AT&T nonsense. Don't really want to read anything else Danny Gokey has to say, ever, am a little tired of the press still pushing Adam, and even more tired of the same press not giving Kris the respect that he is due. There was a nice article on Kris in this week's People and another one in this week's US magazine. I bought both magazines strictly for the articles on Kris Allen. I am looking forward to the issue of EW that will feature an article on Kris as well. Some of these articles posted here are downright insulting to Kris and to his fans and of course do not provide an opportunity for feedback.

God, I wish some mainstream journalist would write a scathing article about the gay nazis out there (Perez, Gawker guy, Adam Markovitz of EW) who are trying to push their own agenda (and work out their own insecurities) through Adam.

This! It needs to happen. There was something really rabid about how some of these bloggers/writers dealt with Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s AI run.

YES! I do not understand why no one (outside of the show like Kris, Paula, Simon) has come to his defense! Why doesn't anyone famous defend Adam from Perez/the other gay nazis/media wolves from having to publically record his sexuality? I am hoping that Rolling Stone will back him up and take a stand.

Anyway, I'm tired of reading about the subject. I am hoping he is at the MTV Movie Awards so we can have some new Adam news!

my local rock station (LA KROQ) wouldn't be caught dead playing Daughtry, Cook or Clarkson....they consider Kelly pop, and the boys soft rock (Nickleback alert). however, they did play clips of adam singing on AI and gave him props for his vocals. will they eventually play his songs/album? TBD

Cover of RS is a bit of a non event for me...they've lost relevance a while back. Sorry, but you cant pretend to a be a serious, wanna be hipster, anti-pop culture mainstream, supporter of real talent and then place the cast of the Hills on your cover. (puke, barf....and i say this as a person who has watched the Hills LOL). they've become an Us Weekly hybrid.....just trying to make a buck based on whatever internet/pop culture trend is hot at the moment.

note: internet/pop culture trends do not equal amazing talent. ex: paris hilton, nicole ritche, kim kardashian, etc........

i just think this has to do more with "outing" adam and benefiting from that publicity rather than believing adam is the next coming of bowie/elvis/whoever. IMO, but i see them using adam .....i wouldn't be surprised that when his album drops so will their support.

sincerely,

i just think this has to do more with “outing” adam and benefiting from that publicity rather than believing adam is the next coming of bowie/elvis/whoever. IMO, but i see them using adam …..i wouldn’t be surprised that when his album drops so will their support.

sincerely,

pessimistic peggy and debbie downer

If someone offers you the cover of Rolling Stone you'd be nuts not to take it. Clay was on it even though Ruben won so it's not like this is unprecedented.

Thanks for posting the Gawker back and forth.

I heart you, Kirsten.

I enjoyed reading the Billboard article about Michael Johns. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m glad his upcoming album is getting some notice.

I've actually liked what I've heard so far, and I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing. He's seems to be charting too. Nice.
