Jessica Sanchez and Daughtry perform at tonight’s Memorial Day concert in Washington DC. It airs on PBS at 8 pm.

Will Phillip Phillips — And ‘American Idol’ — Find Success After Season 11? – On Wednesday, American Idol crowned its 11th winner, when 21-year-old Phillip Phillips triumphed over Jennifer Holliday’s apparent new BFF, Jessica Sanchez, 16. Now, Phillip — a native from Leesburg, GA, who often drew comparisons to the likes of Dave Matthews during his run on the show — will test the tricky waters of life after American Idol, a place where some Idols have flourished (Kelly Clarkson; Carrie Underwood) and others have, well, floundered (Lee DeWyze; Ruben Studdard). – Read more at Celebuzz

‘Idol’ semifinalist Colton Dixon lets family, faith guide him – MURFREESBORO — There are a few things that are not debatable about ‘American Idol’ contestant Colton Dixon. He has a contagious smile, a great talent for both singing and playing music, and he is strong in his faith. From the beginning of his journey on Fox’s longtime running show, Dixon was open and honest about his faith, not only from a song choice perspective, but from his interviews, instigating prayers before and after tapings, and more. “I was raised in the Christian faith,” Dixon said. “My parents taught me the core belief system from a very young age. It is a part of who I am.” – Read more at DNI.com

Reinhart greets fans at Wheeling store – Haley Reinhart may not have received the “American Idol” title last year, but you wouldn’t know it from the devoted fans who showed up Saturday to see the Wheeling native at her hometown Wal-Mart. Kelly Clarkson: The superstar next door – It’s been ten whole years since the big-voiced singer Kelly Clarkson, 30, shot into the spotlight as winner of the first ever season of American Idol. At the time, experts gave her little chance of staying the course. Too girl-next-door, they said. Not polished enough. Not thin enough, either. But Kelly
has proved them wrong with a string of worldwide hits that includes ‘Since U Been Gone’, ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ and the recent ‘Stronger’. Here the refreshingly down-to-earth Texan-born star talks about her relationship with music mogul Simon Cowell, how she’s learnt to handle the media scrutiny surrounding her weight and personal style – and how she finally found love. – Read more at DailyMail.co.uk

‘X Factor’ Tension: Simon Cowell Tells Demi Lovato To Sit In ‘Naughty Chair’ (EXCLUSIVE DETAILS) – Demi Lovato has done more than ease into the vacated X Factor judge’s chair — she’s also assumed Nicole Scherzinger‘s role as head honcho Simon Cowell‘s chief antagonist. The 19-year-old’s first day of judging the hit Fox show in Austin, Texas, involved a day of put downs – not just reserved for contestants. She put Cowell, 52, in his place too. A source at the auditions told Celebuzz: “Demi has really been brave with Simon, constantly reminding him how young she is and how old he is. “At one point she told the audience, ‘He’s just old and impatient.’” – Read more at Celebuzz

Glee star Cory Monteith takes a stand for at-risk youth – Before 30-year-old Victoria native Cory Monteith was belting out ballads on the hit TV musical comedy Glee, he was a troubled youth struggling with drug addiction and the issues that too often come with a broken home. These days he’s a goodwill ambassador for RE*Generation, a initiative to address youth homelessness supported by Virgin Unite, the charitable arm of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group of companies. Metro sat down with the six-foot-three triple-threat in Vancouver on Friday to talk about how more than $50,000 in grants from Virgin Unite will help local at-risk youth. Wow…if Jessica would have dressed like she is in the highlighted picture above while on American Idol she would have impressed me a whole lot more.  But I just don’t know how you get some girls to realize that “dressing up” isn’t always the secret to success.  She just looks more like a cute 16 year old, in the picture, and that coupled with her voice would have been a great juxtaposition.

  • chessguy99

She probably dressed like that most of the time. But, they showed so little of the Idols other than the mentor sessions, you didn’t get the to see them just being themselves.

  • Anonymous

If Jessica wore that on the show she would be called a whore. She already was for her Tina Turner dress.

  • Anonymous

Jessica wasn’t the first female Idols that they either dressed like she was a contestant in a pageant or Toddlers and Tiaras. Her problem was lack of personality.

  • Anonymous

Isn’t that a cute pic. While I had no real problem with how she dressed, I just wanted to see her come out there in a pair of jeans, no heels, and really work that stage.Totally unencumbered by shoes or dress. I think that BeeBee Chez(sp), may have shown up.

Does anyone know how many download of songs in iTunes before an artist can have her/his songs charted? Just wondering because right now Phillip Phillips has more than one charted songs while I have not seen any of Jessica’s songs.

  • http://twitter.com/ladymctech ladymctech

I found Jessica to have more personality than many of the other contestants. And a likeable one at that. It’s interesting that the focus of discussion here is one the outfit she is wearing, and not about her voice in general or the opportunity she was given to sing in DC over the weekend to sing with Chris Daughtry.

I kinda feel bad for P2. A lot more people are banking on his failure rather than his success. Sucks to be in the limelight and not have everything in your favor.

  • Anonymous

This is the real Jessica. Not bad. Not bad at all.

  • Anonymous

Nothing new there.  It’s always been that way for any Idol alumni.

  • iFoundIt

I kinda feel bad for P2. A lot more people are banking on his failure rather than his success. Sucks to be in the limelight and not have everything in your favor.

No need to feel bad.  Because he continues to reign supreme where it counts – Home continues to be #1 on the overall ITunes chart.  His compilation CD of Idol songs continue to be #2.

I could be wrong, but I think he has easily surpassed Lee Dewyze at this point.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001571418856 Dee Miggel

that’s pretty normal for AI winners to have their coronation songs to top the charts – so to speak.  if his didn’t, then i’d wonder how he could’ve won. jessica is happy for phil, why still so bitter with the runner up?

  • Anonymous

I liked Jessica’s style very much.  I think the ultra high heels may have given her a feel of fragility that often didn’t sync with the music she was singing. She is young, tiny and maybe could have stood to give a sense of being grounded rather than tottering.  But other than that, I thought the clothes were perfect.

I also thought her personality was featured on the show more and more as time went on and once we got to see that I liked her as well.

  • Anonymous

I loved Jessica’s clothes this season, she always looked great. This is showbiz, you dress up, you don’t wear clothes that you wear everyday. Plus with the type of songs she picked, it wouldn’t make sense for her to be wearing jeans and sneaks.

  • Anonymous

Maybe its too soon to say that he’s not a Lee in the making. With his pending absence, someone is bound to steal his thunder and people would be fixated on someone new and dreamy-like. Maybe a WGWG in x factor eh?

  • Anonymous

Ofcourse the jeans and sneaks wouldn’t have worked with the songs she sang, but I was thinking different songs, different vibe. BTW, I too loved her clothes. Probably one of the best dressed since Syesha. Wishing this very talented girl, nothing but the best.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

Jessica looks lovely in that dress.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

I also put this partly on the stylists who guide their style while on AI and etc.  Yes, Jessica had a lot of say in what she wore on the show, as did Hollie and the others–but there is no doubt in my mind that the heels  and overly dressy clothes are encouraged by the stylists as well.  I just remember Skylar talking about how she preferred flat boots for herself, but needed to wear heels on the show to make herself look taller.  In general, I always think the contestants look so much more themselves on results nights. But Jessica looks cute here. Glad she got the opportunity.

I just capped off my Phillip Phillips week with a concert from Dave Matthews.  It’s been a good few days.   :)

  • http://twitter.com/cheeseE1 EH

I think Phillip can do well if Home gets some radio play to keep him on people’s minds until he’s able to do promo again.  The only big thing he’s missing is the Today show appearance. (The Disney and Walmart Shareholder gigs are nice, but no one outside of the Idol bubble and the people in attendance knows about them)

A lot will depend on his producer and co-writers.  Jimmy did a good job picking “Home” for him and it’s a relief that it’s not only a different kind of coronation song, but also in a different vein from the singles that previous winners have released post-idol. Even if it’s not exactly what Phillip wants to do, it’s not the typical blah HAC male solo artist song that I seem to hear over and over. If he gets forced into sounding like some kind of Mumford & Sons/Coldplay combo, he could do a lot worse.

Should be fun to follow Phillip’s clashes with the label (I think I heard him say that he doesn’t care if he only sells 10,000 copies of his music, d’oh!)

  • clearone

You make it sound like he will be out of the public eye for months.  It will be but a few weeks at the most.  I know this is serious surgery but it’s not like he’s going to be confined to a hospital bed for months.  If they send Home out for adds to radio that will keep him out there and I would think he’ll be able to do call in’s to radio a while after the surgery.  Who knows what they’re doing prior to the surgery.  They could be recording promos, etc. to keep him out there for the while he’ll be gone.

  • Anonymous

We won’t have any idea about Philip’s chance for success until he releases an actual single and album. His coronation song is doing the same thing every Idol winner’s coronation song has done — gone straight to the top of the iTunes chart. The fact that his album is #2 is nice, but again, since they started putting these compilation albums out, they have tended to do very well on iTunes.

It would be nice if the media wasn’t focused on talking about whether he will “fail”, but considering the spotty track record of not just the Idol winners but also of the runners-up and 3rd place finishers, it is a legitimate thing to wonder about. I somehow doubt that Philip is worried too much about what the media is saying, though.

  • iFoundIt

Exactly. He’s not like he’s going to be so out of it. They can still do interviews, etc. I think he will still have enough, maybe even more media interest. Every post win interview, everyone asked him about the surgery, etc.

Then there is the big Idol tour ahead. There will be a lot of media, buzz around that. And if they have great song, like Home, hopefully they can all have a successful tour.

And hopefully, the better opportunities for some of the others to be signed. The reality is, that only Phillip has a lock in recording deal for an album at this point.

  • Anonymous

LOL, really? If the “cheating Pinoy vote” actually counted, she would have won, so your statement has no logic to it. And when did Jessica steal anyone’s thunder? For someone with “no personality” she sure did get a lot more buzz than the other contestants.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/IKAPTNAJ2NDD2P5QWGFWGEY6ME Mary

Jessica looks cute in her jeans and sneakers. Daughtry is a little fella. I had no idea until I saw him posing with Jessica. I knew Jessica is a tiny little thing.

  • Ringo

Regarding personality, it strikes me that one of the reasons why success on AI does not translate into success in record sales is that personality it so important on AI and often meaningless in record sales.  When I hear a song on the radio or on a soundtrack I either like it or don’t like it because of the sound I hear, not the personality of the singer.  I liked Gotye’s “Someone That I Used to Know” regardless of what his personality is or, for that reason, what he looks like.  That’s why I will always put my money (rather than my AI vote) on the better, more compelling singer.

Maybe we cant have a female winner on IDOL cause there is to much attention on her dress is to long/to short….her hair to young /to old…she acts like a beauty queen/she needs to dress it up more….she sings to old/she sings to Disney-to young/she sounds like this one or that one…..she has to much personality so she is feeling herself/she has no personality-a robot…she sings TO PERFECT/she is off pitch…….she is to young/she is to old…on and on……..??????

Does anyone know what is going on with this?  A friend of mine emailed me this morning and said it’s being reported on every metal/rock media outlet today that James Durbin is going to be announced as the new lead singer for the band Drowning Pool (their original singer died).  I googled it and came up with tons of articles like this one:

    http://www.uberrock.co.uk/news-updates/95-may-news-updates/5060-drowning-pool-set-to-na...

Apparently Drowning Pool was interviewed at Rock on the Range and hinted that it might be James (said his name starts with the letter “J” and they were at Rock on the Range checking out the singers and how they did) and there are shows listed on the internet with them playing together in July (although James could just be opening for them and the media could be way off base with this).  Drowning Pool is coming out with their 5th album this October.

Now…I really don’t think this is true.  James is so busy with his own stuff and already confirmed several times that he is starting his sophomore album in September.  He also has tour dates with his own band listed already for this summer.  Drowning Pool has been asked about James though and they are not denying it – they will not announce the new singer until next week.

Even if it’s not James, it has lots of people talking and that can’t be a bad thing.  And if it’s not James, Drowning Pool may not be denying it just because of all the publicity they are getting right this minute from the story.  They may be enjoying all the speculation about the new lead singer.  Free publicity for them.

I am adding the interview with CJ Pierce from Drowning Pool:

I kinda feel bad for P2. A lot more people are banking on his failure rather than his success. Sucks to be in the limelight and not have everything in your favor.

Read down the page a little bit, to the headline topic about people making the same prediction about Kelly Clarkson.  I remember Kelly saying that people who worked on AI were some of the first ones who said that she didn’t deserve to win.  She got the same complaints that have been thrown at pretty much every other idol, she was too plain, not pretty enough, and as the title of that headline says, she was the girl next door, so not special enough to make it.  Flash forward a few years later, and some of the same things were said about Carrie.  She’s robotic, has no personality, Bo deserved it more and had the bigger fanbase.  Millions of albums sold later, and people are still saying some of the same things about Carrie, but who cares.  She’s found her audience, and they love her.

i dont really think so, and people always do that, people didnt think scotty would sell, and he is over the 1 million mark, and still selling. I think phillip was fortunate to get such a good single (im not saying he isnt talented), and i think it will do really well, the only problem he might encounter is if people really like this single, and then the cd is totally different, but then that is his choice

  • tinawina

Eh. It doesn’t matter what Jessica wore on the show. She went as high as anyone who was not Phillip was ever going to go. And once more, we’d be having this same convo for Joshua, or Hollie, or Skylar, or Elise, or whomever… picking them apart for weeks afterwards looking for “reasons” why they deserved thier loss. They all could have done some things differently, everyone had room for improvement, but the only one who was ever going to win, won. So what difference does it make now? LOL

Not that any of that is Phillip’s fault. He’s a nice dude.

  • justmefornow

I think this is just for buzz. Drowning Pool has a new album coming out soon, so any buzz is a good thing. Also, didn’t they say the new lead singer’s name has a “J” in it, not starting with a “J”.
Besides, I read recently in an interview he did, James was offered the lead singer position of another band, he wouldn’t name the band, right after Idol ended. He said in the interview at the time that he turned them down because he wanted to make a name for himself with his own band and with his own music.
So I don’t see how this situation is any different.

I totally agree with you.  I can’t see this being true, but like you said, anything that gets people talking is not a bad thing.

The friend who emailed me this morning has a theory.  She said James’ band said they are off now after tonight for a month.  But she said Heidi said James is only going to be home for a few days, so obviously James is involved with something for the next month that his band isn’t.  She thinks maybe he is going to record the vocals for Drowning Pool’s album (CJ from Drowning Pool said they have 3 weeks left to record).  Then she thinks James is singing for both his band and Drowning Pool this summer on tour.  I think she’s crazy – I know James has a strong work ethic but that would just be insane.  I can’t see that happening.  And I know James would never abandon his own band at this point.

Well we will know for sure next week – Drowning Pool said they are making the official announcement next week.

  • Wes Parker

This, I think. Women on Idol seem to wind up with cross-hairs trained on them if they stray outside certain margins.  Voters won’t vote for a female Durbin, or a female Sanjay, so talented women get left behind in the early rounds while more marginal guys advance.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=195101108 Stefan Wind

Jessica is charting…just not very high, because not that many people are buying her music.

  • justmefornow

Seeing how loyal James is to his guys, especially sticking to his guns about Dylan with Jimmy, I find this highly unlikely.
Could be stuff with the WWE leading up to Summerslam on 8 /19 since he’ll be away most of July on tour again.
Also legal and /or label business before he starts production on the new album in Sept.

“Probably one of the best dressed since Syesha.”

Very true, Syesha did dress very nicely. Also, towards the end of her run she was very clever and started performing barefoot which allowed her to move so much more comfortably, and with an ease that I really have not seen from a girl since. I really think shoes do a number on the girl’s performances and hinder their abilities. It is so unfair too. I mean, imagine if Phillip or Joshua wore high heels during their performances (disaster).

Huh, interesting. But I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a similar situation to when some people were claiming Adam  was going to be joining Queen on a permanent basis. Maybe James is going to do a show or two singing with them? Or maybe they are on the same bill together?

I can’t see James suddenly deciding to front someone else’s band. But I guess you should never say never, right?

  • Anonymous

Ha!! That would have been awesome. It would be cool for him to get some acting experience in. He was great on that Teen Nick show.

  • Anonymous

I can’t see him fronting someone else’s band either, and his band members have said they are out on tour with James again the whole months of July and August – they are only off for the month of June.

The only way it could possibly be true is if it’s like you said – maybe this is the band that approached him last year to be the lead singer (they have been looking for a lead singer since last year, and James did say in an interview a band approached him but he turned them down because he wanted to do his own thing).  Maybe they were able to come to an agreement somehow where James could do both his own thing and work with them.  If not, there is no way this can be true.

  • koshka

For his sake, I hope it is true.

  • Anonymous

Not me. Well I guess it would all work out fine, but I would rather see him continue to build up cred with his own band as he has been.

“OKMAG: Kris Allen Admits He Tried Out For the Lead Role in ‘Rock Of Ages’http://www.okmagazine.com/news… “Wow thought it was a joke. I don’t know what to think about it. I just can’t see him in this particular role.

  • koshka

Well.. I could see this, but I think it would do him well to work in a band where he isn’t the driving force to get a different perspective.

  • Anonymous

There is no way I could see Kris in that role either.  I’m surprised too.

  • Anonymous

I am glad Jessica is getting the opportunity to perform this weekend, she’s gonna slay. I loved seeing her personality evolve on the show and I loved almost all her clothing choices the shoes are another story, but when you are barely over 5 feet tall one would feel the need to wear heels. These days the ‘fashionable’ ones are excessively high and ungainly. She did everything she could to win but the odds were always against her. And it had nothing to do with her personality, clothing or shoes.

I hope Phillip does well. Even though I preferred Jessica he would have been my second choice since my favorite guy Deandre was long gone. A guy was always gonna win. Everything that I’ve read since then makes it abundantly clear. Women have too many hurdles to jump that makes it almost impossible.

    1) Ricky Martin is still hot.
    2) Jessica Sanchez looks so young and cute in that top photo, she should stop dressing in horrible gowns like a boozed-up “Real Housewifes of …” z-lister and wear 16-year-old’s clothes.

Fox and AI have posted a new survey about season 11.
    https://twitter.com/19News/status/206822081235652608

It’s funny that the first question is about comparing season 11 to season 10.  I guess they want to see what worked last year, but didn’t this year, and caused the huge ratings drop.  The sad thing is that since the drop happened from the first episode on, the conclusion may be that the problems started last season, and effected season 11.

LOL well it’s cool to see James all over the rock & metal media again! I’m sure Drowning Pool’s not complaining about their own publicity either! I don’t mind James fronting/recording material with other bands on the side but I really like him with his own band and hope he continues with what he’s got going on now, so excited for album #2!

  • Tess

The exact same things are posted about the male contestants…except I don’t think people write about their “dresses”.

If others are like me they try and analyze their own feelings toward someone since it isn’t always about the voice…so when I see a picture of Jessica that I find positive, in my view, why shouldn’t I comment on it.  Other people spend an exorbitant amount of time ridiculing plaid shirts and commenting on the fact someone’s bald spot is growing bigger or has miraculously disappeared.

    Incredible…

Taylor Hicks to split vocal duties with Ozzy in the Black Sabbath reunion as well. Great news.

I did notice though that for people who bash Idol like they do, they certainly seem to know a lot about it…..

I see his name is listed with some of the bigger acts here.  He’s moving up on the totem pole.

If it will be awkward for anybody there, I would think it would be awkward for Drowning Pool and Soil playing together.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

I think he must record for Drowning Pool and just that. But James voice doesn’t fit their crap Nu-Metal style at all. And the new singer would be a tenor singing all that high notes? the last singer of Driowning seems to be a baritone with low voice.

They must just be touring together and that’s all.

    ETA: no, nothing of recording

@Metalmoccha they have Another new singer

Babblermouth is also known for being kinda the TMZ of Rock.

  • justmefornow

True, like a metal soap opera, lol.

  • Anonymous

Yeah Leandro, I saw that James tweeted that Drowning Pool has another new singer.  It seems he met most of these guys at Rock on the Range.  He tweeted that he met their ex-lead singer (who is now with Soil) there too.  I’m sure they are all friendly with each other.

  • Anonymous

Probably the biggest rock media splash, aside from the obviously false rumor, is the fact that James added dates with Drowning Pool in the first place.  This is international news, the UK link here and articles in Italian and Spanish that I’ve seen so far. We already know he has a following in Brazil and Japan.

James said he was going to have to pay his dues but the time for that process seems to be getting shorter and shorter.  Rockfests in Europe ahead for James?

  • Anonymous

LOL…That tweet from James denying that he’s joining Drowning Pool as their new lead singer wasn’t the most tactful statement I’ve ever seen. But whatever, as least it should stop the rumors…

  • justmefornow

lol, I think Blabbermouth is pissed that James called them out. They just posted the video where James calls Axl a dick.
They are getting a lot of miles and ad hits out of this crap!
LMFAO  at that site & those comments! VERY entertaining.
(My favorite was the one about the lollipop. lol.)

Well that’s a bummer.  They just stopped the Memorial Day Celebration in Washington because there’s a bad storm coming.  At least DAUGHTRY got to sing before the storm.  I don’t know if Jessica performed or not.

  • Anonymous

Jessica sang the NA very well.  They just cancelled the rest of the show and are evacuating because of Storm Warnings and are showing last years show.

Daughtry also performed Going Home very well and they has lots of Sentimental clips showing.

Trace Adkins also performed as did the Symphony Orchestra.

Very sad talk by a Military Wife who lost her husband and a nice tribute by Colin Powell.

Blessings to our Military and their families.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Jessica performed a very nice rendition of the National Anthem, but they had to stop the show before she sang anything else. I thought that Daughtry singing “Home” to a montage of servicemen and women was very moving.

  • Indigobunting

Danny Gokey did an appearance for Sophia’s Heart in Frisco, Texas today; lots of nice Tweets about it. He sang 4 songs and talked about Sophia’s Heart, sold his EP and sold out of My Best Days.

Nothing like a cute baby pic (Danny and baby, lol)

    http://instagr.am/p/LJXxcsupqt/

Speaking of cute pics- that is a really cute pic of Jessica Sanchez- the girls are definitely more in their element when not trying to look too diva-ish.

  • Anonymous

Wow? They had to stop the show in DC? Adam just finished his set at freshtival there…

  • Anonymous

Also lol at all the comments saying they agree with James about Axl.  Well Axl is a well known jerk (I think he actually prides himself on that fact).  This really isn’t news at all, only the part that James said it to an interviewer. Blabbermouth is really getting some mileage out of James today for their site.

  • Anonymous

Jessica did a very nice NA.  She was the first performer.  I don’t know if she was supposed to do any more songs.

  • Anonymous

Concerning Jessica’s dresses on AI …. have you seen prom pics lately?  Jessica’s dresses were modest compared to some prom dresses.

  • Anonymous

Jessica was supposed to do one other song before the show was cancelled.

  • Anonymous

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that.

  • Anonymous

Jessica was going to perform The Prayer as well. Sad she won’t be able to though at least she got to perform it twice on Idol. she might have gotten an audience for it that does not watch Idol.

  • Anonymous

Supposedly she was supposed to perform “The Prayer” as well as the NA at this concert

  • Anonymous

The mp3 of Haley’s album in on sell at Amazon for $4.99.

  • Anonymous

That’s too bad that they had to stop the Memorial Day concert. Hopefully everyone is safe from whatever bad weather is headed that way. Would have been nice if Jessica had gotten to sing The Prayer, but at least she did the NA, and quite nicely, too.

I hope the weather cooperates for Kris’ appearance at tomorrow’s Memorial Day parade in Washington DC

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y2H6IQWNMTSNTCTWDP7TDFEKPY Linda

I just turned on the tv again after the storm went through here, in southern PA. I saw Pia was singing at the end of the program so I knew it was from last year’s show. I wonder if Kris was shown singing God Bless the USA from last year too? I forget what time he performed at last year’s celebration. Unfortunate for Jessica to have her second song cut. Safety first.

  • Anonymous

What station on KC played it?

  • Anonymous

Kris performed in the first half hr of the show last year so when they cut into the program it was well past his performance.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y2H6IQWNMTSNTCTWDP7TDFEKPY Linda

That’s right. Too bad. It would have been good exposure for him to have that shown again. It was a great performance. I still watch it from time to time because it was not only very good, but touching also. Btw, Jessica did a good job on the NA. I just saw it because our local PBS station is running it again.

Another indication that Idol may be doing away with the Runner-up title and prestige.  Montegna introduced Jessica as “American Idol Finalist…”.

the discussions on their board are pretty “interesting”. It seems to be a contest to find the gayest band/singer ever.

  • http://twitter.com/ladymctech ladymctech

Exactly! You most likely don’t know anything about a singer who hasn’t been on Idol the first time you hear that person.

It’s called double standards. And it’s been around a long time for women, unfortunately.

I don’t know if this link will work, but I finally uploading my videos from the James Durbin “invitation only” event a few weeks ago in Vermont. There are two videos of Question and Answer segments, so take a look if you fancy! :) If the link doesn’t work, my youtube user name is BigNLiddle24…just look at them that way.

Most of the alums, even the winners, are called finalists from time to time.  It has nothing to do with how 19 is going to treat the people who come in second place. I think the word finalist is used, because making the final round is seen as a major accomplishment.

For Jessica, she’s doing Live with Kelly and the Today show this week, so she’s fine.   She’ll probably have some more appearances that she’s doing by herself, too.  And wouldn’t the fact that she was booked for this event pretty much mean that someone thought enough of her to believe that she was ready for doing something as prestigious as this event?

  • DragonFly

Checking out some of the links for July 14 Showboat Rockfest & this came up quite impressive I’d say for James:

“Arrowhead Productions brings you over 18 bands on 2 stages for a full day of entertainment. The festival will be headlined by SEVENDUST and feature the best in today’s rock music including American Idol’s James Durbin.”

    Thanks!

The Kelly appearance is part of the Top 3 promo next (minus Philip).  It would be more to her advantage if she had a new single to promote, like Lauren Alaina had last year with Like My Mother Does.

The Axel comment has taken on its own life on twitter. Blabbermouth is usually pretty friendly towards James.(I mean the content not the basement-dwelling 14-year-old commenters.) But a headline blaring James Durbin calls Axel Rose a dick isn’t so friendly. James also gave Axel major props. Brandon Geist has been a huge supporter of James. But he is Revolver’s editor – not sure if he has editorial control over the blabbermouth website. Still, the whole thing from the Drowning Pool rumor – which made no logical sense whatever – to the Axel thing, it was uncharacteristic of Blabbermouth when it comes to James.
The thing that is different about James in the hard rock and metal world, is that he has the support of his peers and a lot of the press before he has had a chance to prove himself to audiences, who are looking askance due to Idol, and are therefore harder to win over. He is doing it, one step and one fan at a time. But I wonder if there isn’t some resentment that he has been so embraced by the metal artist elite and a lot of the rock/metal press. The fans like to be the ones who decide who is worthy. I wonder if they feel like he has been crammed down their throats. Just a thought.

Well they better get used to it because James is only going to get bigger.

The Prayer was charted but didn’t break the Top 50 in itunes. But her compilation > Journey to the Finale was at #9. Don’t know where it is now.

Yup, the girls have to be perfect! We guys, just need to be rugged or just plain guys! Movies says it all, the guy next door gets the perfect girl! :)

  • http://twitter.com/ZarkeMulgore Zarke

And that is the reason, girls should win more…they get more success than the guys….

Despite his coronation song “Home” making it to
No.1 on I-Tunes the day after his win, Phillips said that the song was
not really something he would write, describing it as “not the best
song for me.” “It’s a little too pop for me… but it’s a very
good song and I’m glad people like it. I feel like I’m a little more
rock than that, so hopefully people like what I have to put out, some
jazz rock stuff,” said Phillips, who counts Eric Clapton and Eminem as
some of his influences.   Oh why oh why did you go
against your true self and listened to others P2? Jessica could have won.
LOL! I guess he really wanted to win. So, he played the game! Good call!

I am so happy the entire PBS White House special was presented the second time even if it is rehearsal footage.  Jessica did such a GOOD job and Idol can be proud of her!  What a great opportunity for her, and also to meet Chris.

On one performance Jessica was barefooted as Ryan asked if she had heels on and she said no.  I think Idol interns must read forums and blogs.  When Idol spends lots of $$$ for a Fashion consultant and stylist, it makes me think Tommy had control over what most of the contestants wore.

Do you think Phillip’s “Home” wil be the “goodbye” song on Idol next season?  It is a really nice song.

“Jessica is charting…just not very high, because not that many people are buying her music. ”

Heard of many fans abroad wanting to buy her AI music but are unable to access USA Itunes.

At any rate let’s just wait for her first album, shall we? One thing sure, Ryan Seacrest himself appears to be eager to play her songs in his radio show as soon as her album comes out — that is, if we go by his comments in attached video …

As far as I know Revolver and Blabbermouth are not affiliated at all.  Blabbermouth is part of Roadrunner Records.

I doubt that this comment by James is going to mean much to people reading it, since Axl is well-known for being an ass.  Beat up his wives, self-proclaimed racist and anti-gay, stole money from his own band members, didn’t show up for his own shows.  I read once that he has the longest list of enemies of anyone in the music business and has had more beer bottles thrown at him while on stage than any other musician.  Axl isn’t a nice guy and seems proud of that fact.  But James better be careful with Axl – he could end up being one of the ones who gets punched by him like Tommy Hilfiger or Warren Beatty did.

I know, it doesn’t say all (or maybe even much), but curiousity made me check his twitter stats:

    http://twittercounter.com/compare/DurbinRock/3month/followers

Normally these days, he gains between 50 and 150 new followers a day (except for the Idol performance bump which gave over 2’000 new folllowers in 3 days), but on May 24th he gained 460, and on May 25th over 200 followers. The YT upload date of the interview shows as May 25th, but I guess it was for a rock radio station and maybe it aired there a day or two before?

Anyway, whether it’s coincidence or not, myself, I prefer people to have an opinion (even if I might not share it – I just draw the line when it comes to racist or  sexist slurs and such) than being tongue-tied and boring in interviews.

I wouldn’t worry about Axl taking a swing at Durbin:
    Tale of the tape:

Durbin: Age 23, Height 6’2″, Weight 215 (lean)
Axl: Age 50, Height 5’9″, Weight 200 (fat)

I’ll take Durbin in the 1st round.

Jessica performed 3 songs! The NA, The prayer which was phenomenal and God Bless America all flawless and very emotional renditions from the young 16 years old powerhouse vocalist!

Cute Glee pirates… Aren’t the fans of Dave Karofsky called “pirates” ?
Wonder who the 2 girls are… Darren’s girlfriend and Dianna Agron maybe ? Chris Colfer looks fierce , but I guess we will never see him like that in Glee…   :-(
