Pia Toscano Working on Debut Album, Ready to Sing with Kris Allen in D.C. This Memorial Day

Pia is thrilled to be involved in the concert, telling ABC News Radio, “This means everything to me…I lived September 11th. I am a New Yorker and I remember exactly where I was that day.” She adds, “My grandfather was a marine, so this just really strikes such a chord with me, and I’m happy just to be a part of it.” Pia says she’ll perform the national anthem and her version of the Pretenders hit “I’ll Stand By You.” She also hopes to spend some time with Kris, and get some advice about life post-American Idol. She tells ABC News Radio, “Of course…I’m going to pick his brain about what do to when American Idol’s all over. He has a great career, and so it’s going to be fun.”

As for Kris, he’s going to be performing Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” at the event, telling ABC News Radio, “We don’t want to change it up too much, because it’s such an iconic song…it’s gonna be a lot of fun to sing that song for that many people.” Kris says he feels this year’s concert will be “moving, ” and adds, “I cannot wait to get on stage there, with all the people there, singing along…it’s going to be an amazing night.

Pia Toscano Reveals Details of Her Upcoming Album

“I kind of got a head start, and I didn’t realize that, ” Toscano tells PEOPLE. The singer – who’ll be performing the National Anthem during the live broadcast of PBS’s National Memorial Day concert in Washington, D.C., on Sunday – says her exit from the show gave her more time to focus on crafting her upcoming album.

“It’s definitely going to be big ballads, but there’s also going to be those fun up-tempo songs, those dancing songs, ” she reveals. “I feel like on the show people really only saw me in one way, and I want to show the world that I can do other things.”

‘’Rent’ preview: Nearly a decade after TV breakthrough, Guarini appears in shore production

He was a child of privilege, with a mother who was a CNN anchorwoman and a father who was chief of police in Atlanta. And he skyrocketed to fame in 2002, finishing second in the first season of “American Idol.”

So how could Justin Guarini possibly identify with Roger in “Rent”? After all, he has never been a starving artist who lives in a cold-water loft where the electricity is erratic.

Adam Lambert Making His ‘Dream Album’

“I think I’ve probably written about 18 to 20 songs. I’ve been spending the past two and a half months in the studio, ” Lambert told MTV News on the red carpet of Wednesday’s “Idol” finale in Los Angeles. “I’m writing most of the material with people myself this time … I’m really involved. It’s really exciting because I think I’m making my dream album. I know that sounds a bit clichéd, but I’m making exactly what I want to listen to.”

Helping him achieve that goal are a variety of seasoned pros — Ryan Tedder, Nikka Costa and Sia, to name just a few — and while there’s still no release date for the album, Lambert said he’s in no rush. He’s enjoying the writing process, and getting an education in songwriting in the process.

Cheryl Cole’s loss could be the US X Factor’s gain

Special relationship? Special relationship? Let me tell you something, Mr President (he’ll be reading this – never misses a week): nothing says “you guys are so special to me” like hightailing it to the airport just as news breaks of what America has done to Britain’s Cheryl Cole.

Yes, there may be the odd distracted Yemeni or Syrian dissident who hasn’t heard the story – though I hear it’s the talk of Tripoli – but Cheryl Cole has been axed from the US version of The X Factor. Whether or not Obama personally delivered the death blow to Cheryl’s American dreams is irrelevant. My sources tell me the president was watching the entire operation via videolink in a mobile situation room, and that he and the joint chiefs were scarcely able to breathe until Fox operatives confirmed the takedown using the code alert “Geordio EKIA! Geordio EKIA!”

Why did Cheryl Cole get dropped from American X Factor?

As the news spreads across the pond, back home in the UK, some fans are wondering whether her role on the show was a glorified PR stunt.

Times columnist Caitlin Moran says the conspiracy theories being written about Cole on the micro-blogging site Twitter make the mystery of JFK’s assassination look like “chicken feed”.

“All of Britain is absolutely obsessed with the truth behind what’s going on. No one can seem to take on board the fact that it was probably just a big mistake and some people changed their minds.”
