Thousands of musical hopefuls descended on the Dallas Convention Center this morning for a chance to prove they have the “X Factor.”
That’s the name of Simon Cowell’s new FOX talent search show.
Only a small bunch will likely make it past today’s auditions, but that didn’t stop the gigantic crowd from singing, fist-pumping and otherwise having a good time in the early morning sun.

And it was just really fun to see her perform on a tiny stage, where she could reach out and touch her fans (in a literal way); at times the atmosphere of the show felt like a coffee klatsch thrown by a fantastic hostess who had great taste in pop music and who was unpretentious enough to sing along with the radio when an especially catchy song came on. (No Tupperware was for sale, although you could buy a scarf screenprinted with images of the company’s bowls and serving vessels.) She chatted between songs about how gratified she felt when audience members shouted out how hot she looked, how she liked music that was “so depressively pretty, ” and the pesky rumors that she’s a lesbian, which she refuted by noting that while she’s into dudes, she tends to not have the best taste in them. (Cue the sympathy, especially from this corner.)

Mark Ballas & Pia Toscano Get Serious: Use ‘L’ Word On Twitter
They’ve been dating for less than two months, but things seem to getting serious for “Dancing with the Stars” professional Mark Ballas and booted “American Idol” finalist Pia Toscano.
Following Pia’s return to the “Idol” stage for Wednesday’s finale (she performed with the show’s Top 12 ladies in a Beyonce tribute and during the show open), Mark, 25, took to Twitter to profess his Pia pride and dropped the big “L” word!
“Just watched the idol final in NYC.. @PToscanoAI10 is my Champion, ” the “Dancing with the Stars” professional Tweeted on Wednesday. “Love you Pi, so proud of you.”

‘American Idol’ 2012: Jennifer Lopez Says its ‘Too Early to Tell’ if She’ll Be Back
A source also overheard the Aerosmith rocker happily confirm Wednesday that he’ll be back for another round. (Based on the rumors that he earned $18 million for the first season alone, it’s no wonder he’s enthusiastic.)
“They can’t get rid of Tyler, he’s the new Paula, ” reality television and pop culture expert Mikey Glazer told FOX411’s Pop Tarts.
But Lopez, who signed for significantly less money (a reported $12 million), isn’t so sure of her future.
“It’s too early to tell, ” the 41-year-old told FOX411

‘American Idol’ Cast-Off Pia Toscano Working on ‘Big, Diva’ Album, Says Producer
Jerkins says he was in the studio with Toscano as recently as Saturday and that she’s already recorded “a few songs.” The sound? “It’s a big, diva-sounding record, ” he describes. “It’s what I think I do best – that big Whitney, Mariah, Celine vibe. We’ve having fun with that.”
He’s making plans for additional sessions while Toscano and the rest of season 10 Top 11 are out on tour this summer. “These kids have crazy schedules so what’s going to happen is while they’re on the road traveling, they’ll have to stop in certain cities and record, which might mean us traveling and meeting them to record.”

Elliott Yamin: Singer reflects on life after American Idol
The 33-year-old singer spent the first half of 2011 in a Los Angeles recording studio putting the finishing touches on his latest album tentatively titled “Let’s Get to What’s Real.”
“It’s really organic, it’s real soulful, it’s real R&B. Heavy songwriting, really conversational, ” Yamin said about his latest effort set to be released in August in the United States.
It will be Yamin’s third studio album of original content. Unlike his previous two albums, Yamin says this time he is not shooting for Top 40 success.

Interview: American Idol’s Sanjaya Malakar – Moving Forward While Giving Back
Four years ago, Sanjaya Malakar was tearing it up on the American Idol stage with Joe Perry of Aerosmith during the season six finale. They were reprising what became a sort of signature song for Malakar during his time on the show, “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks. Though he finished seventh, he became one of the best known contestants in Idol history thanks to his unpredictable wardrobe and hairstyles. But it was his soft, smooth, quiet storm vocals that originally captured the Idol judges’ attention.
