American Idol stalker pleads guilty to further charges

A woman previously convicted of stalking a former American Idol contestant has pleaded guilty to further stalking charges.

Tanya Quattrocchi, 23, of Oak Park, pleaded guilty today to four stalking charges committed while she was on a community-based order.

The Victorian County Court heard that between November 8, 2007, and January 30 this year, Quattrocchi stalked 2004 American Idol runner-up Diana DeGarmo, her mother and flatmate.

‘Idolatry’ finale: Pink hair, Kris and Adam love, contestant snubs, and The Kara Problem!

It’s here at last: The five-part Idolatry season finale! Okay, yes, it’s not technically our season finale. (Later this week, we’ll have in-depth interviews with season 8′s top 3 finishers — Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, and Danny Gokey.) But as far as your regularly scheduled Idol deep-dive is concerned, this is it, people! Press play and (hopefully) enjoy as my cohost Kristen Baldwin and I have one final 2009 chat (on camera) about our national obsession America’s favorite TV talent show. Questions on the docket: How did the season finale become a (possible) referendum on (possibly) gay rights? (Or did it at all?) Which piece of advice from Adam Lambert helped semifinalist/Jason Averett crush Jesse Langseth become even cooler during her Hollywood Week run? Who got snubbed hardest in the Idol season-finale extravaganza? (And why do the producers work so hard to spoil our enjoyment of said episode?) What changes would Kristen and I bring to Idol for season 9…if we were limited to one tweak apiece? (And how come neither of us immediately said “Fire Kara!”?)

American Idol stalker wanted to write book about crimes

A MELBOURNE woman who cyber-stalked an American Idol contestant has been warned by a judge to ditch plans to write a book of her crimes.

Tanya Maree Quattrocchi, 23, hacked into the MySpace account of 2004 runner-up Diana Degarmo and wreaked havoc on the pop singer’s life for three years, intercepting her emails and texting her hundreds of times.

Today County Court Judge Lisa Hannan said she was concerned about Quattrocchi’s hope to write a book telling “her side of the story”.

Judge Hannan said any book would be another form of stalking.

“Kris definitely grew on me. I love that he’s growing into his artistry, and he just grew every week on ‘Idol,’” Jordin tells ET.

“Adam, in my opinion — I have never a heard a voice like that other than like Steven Tyler and Freddie Mercury,” she adds.

Susan Boyle’s Ratings Make American Idol Drool

“American Idol” may have just ended its season as the top-rated television show — by far — in America, but over the pond YouTube star Susan Boyle is taking the ratings for Simon Cowell’s other project, “Britain’s Got Talent,” on a rocket ride.

Boyle, for those of you who only know Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, is a 47-year-old woman described as ‘dumpy’ or ‘frumpy,’ whose unexpectedly brilliant singing voice has taken our cousins by storm.

According to the London Telegraph, more than half of everyone in Britain who had their TVs on Sunday were watching Boyle make it to the finals of the show, singing “Memory” from “Cats.” That’s an amazing statistic in this age of 1,000 personalized channels.

LaKisha Jones: ‘Celebrate’ The Dawn of a Diva

American Idol season 6 finalist Lakisha Jones is ready to celebrate and with good reason.

On May 19, the big-voiced native of Flint, Michigan dropped her debut album So Glad I’m Me, an upbeat and deeply personal pop/R&B collection that heralds the dawn of a new gay diva.

From the opening strains of “Grateful,’ the disc’s autobiographical first track, right through to “Just Am I,” the collection’s inspirational closing track, So Glad I Am plays like a personal testimony of one woman’s struggle against the odds to find success and self-acceptance.

Heartfelt and uplifting, So Glad I Am is an album that succeeds not simply because of the superlative voice behind it, but also because of its unfettered authenticity.

It’s funny how the people at EW.com went from loathing season 8 to declaring it one of the best overall.

In hindsight, I believe the producers struck gold with their decision to put everyone back in a mansion, even tough it didn’t produce the results they were expecting.
The contestants were probably exposed to each other much more and that must have helped on the show. Of course, with the wrong people it could have been the exact opposite and it would have been hell (I still wonder what if Tatiana made it through the semifinals).

  • flicker

    Matt tweeted this last night:

I’m hearing that my duet was posted. Hope everyone liked it. Now it’s time to focus on what Im doing after Idol. Can’t wait for tour!! :)

Sounds like a healthy attitude from a man who is moving on!

  • Niall

After her finale appearance I was more convinced than ever that Tatiana was putting on an act. All over the red carpet coverage are pics of Tatiana posing with other contestants.

At least the judge in the degarmo stalker case had the good sense to tell the stalker not to write a book. Wanting to bring more attention to her actions by writing a book seems as good a reason as any to lock her up for the maximum sentence.

And now I’m off to watch Idolatry. Love Slezak.

  • TwigLA

Arghhh!!!! Idolatry’s server is overloaded. I KNEW that was going to happen – everyone wants to see Slezak’s red hair and the hilarious Kristen Baldwin’s season wrap up.

Boo, hiss – I have to wait.

  • Tony

LMAO. Loved the Idolatry finale video.

And I wonder who Slezak was talking about when he said that they forgot to mention a certain contestant :)

  • Chipmunk

Awww, reading about Lil and Gokey in their respective hometowns really brought it home to me……..

Idol Season 8 is over!!! WTF am I gonna talk about now? :cry_tb:

Guess I lucked out hopping over there early. Finished watching about a half hour ago with no server problems, although Ricky Braddy’s call was not yet up. Suppose I’ll have to wait….

Idolatry interview schedules for this week:

    Adam: Wednesday, May 27
    Kris: Thursday, May 28
Danny (and final Idolatry of the season): Friday, May 29 (oh, THAT one should be awkward…)

  • KrisAllen1

I didnt see the finale idolatry. Was it just up today?

I hated watching Idolatry. It made my heart ache. Just as I thought I was getting over Adam’s loss Slezak brings it all back to me, the pain. I a;so hated that it was the last of the season, I am going to miss Slezak’s middle-aged cherubic face and Kristin’s oh so cutting wit. No only now that I’ve watched I know that AI 8 is really over.

I doubt I’ll be watching next season, since I never watched any of he previous seasons I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet. Adam brought me into the AI family and Adam takes me out of it.

I am so grateful for this Blog and to you mj for making my first season of AI fantardom so pleasurable an experience. I may not be going back to AI 9 but I’m never leaving here. Just as long as you guys promise not to suck me into this anguish that is the AI vortex again next year.

Thank you mj, thank you Adam, thank you God for for the past 4 months.

I was surprised that Slezak admitted that if someone put a gun to his head and he had to choose between Kris and Adam, he picked Kris. I thought he favored Adam over Kris, although looking back, he IS the biggest Kris Allen supporter among all the internet journalists (he and that guy from The Week That Was).

    Kristen favors Adam, me thinks.

The “What Not to Sing” site has an interesting new article up about Kris Allen and his victory. Here’s a cute quote: “…That’s because he [Allen] came out on top for all the right reasons: brilliant song selection, solid vocals, superb presentation (his penchant for side-mouth singing notwithstanding), and most importantly, by crafting a strategy to sell himself to America that was so intelligent that it’s worth paying him the highest compliment in the Idol analysts’ lexicon. It was Cookesque.”

  • noctem seizure

I don’t like Idolatry’s (and other media outlets’) contention that adjectives used to describe Adam’s performances are necessarily code words meaning “too gay”. When I assessed his performances as “too theatrical”, I meant exactly that– they were, in fact, too theatrical, not that they were “too gay”. I meant that I couldn’t feel a connection with him as an music artist during his songs because I felt like I was simply watching a singing actor instead.

The extreme opposite of this effect was epitomized by David Cook’s performance of “Permanent” at the finale. As somebody who is a fan of Cook, I have no problem acknowledging that Adam probably is a technically superior vocalist. But, when Cook was finished with Permanent, you had the sense that he had left his blood, guts, and entrails out on that stage.

DC left the same impression quite a few times while he was on Idol, and in many other instances if you watch his youtube concert videos. But, I never once got that from Adam. Instead, at all times with him I felt like his performances, no matter how high-quality they were, never got to the point where they transcended being anything more than a “show”. With Cook, as well as with scads and scores of other TRUE “music artists”, it can become something more than that, where there’s almost a communing that takes place between the singer and the audience.

So that’s what I mean when I say Adam was “too theatrical”. I most assurdly am not implying that he he came across “too gay”….

I really loved this season and Idolatry and mj’s blog really made it fun for me. Adam, Kris and Allison really is Season 8 and I can’t wait to see them on tour! I’ve loved them since Group 2 selected to go in the Finals and they made it all the way to the end (Allison should have been Top 3)!!

Can’t wait to see Adam and Kris’ Idolatry interviews as a fan, but am really curious to see “the one who will not be mentioned”‘s interview! Awkward!!

Interesting opinion piece at USA Today
Why Adam Lambert shouldn’t join Queen
    http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/2009/05/why-adam-lambert-shouldnt-join-queen.html

Apparently Mr. Gene Simmons clarified himself:

Simmons later clarified his opinion in his answer to another email: “Adam is a great singer. He would be great in Queen. Like Freddie Mercury. But Mercury wouldn’t work in the Stones or KISS. Nor would Mick Jagger work in Queen. Got it??

Otherwise an interesting discussion of where Adam’s direction may be in the future.

  • lavender1960

I concur wholeheartedly noctem seizure. I certainly never thought they were code words for gay because I have seen straight men and women performers who were too theatrical for my tastes as well. It is the “no such thing as too much” camp of performing arts vs the “less is more”camp or at least change it up from song to song. Similar thing with transitioning from the theatre to the movie screen for many actors, because less is definitely more in the latter.

To my eyes and ears, and it is not just Adam, something gets in the way with a total emotional connection. Clearly Adam is connecting with some people and yes in terms of theatre itself, a well done theatrical production runs you through an emotional gamut but it’s a different emotional ride.

Maybe it is because theatre singers are so used to inhabiting the characters they play that they don’t quite know how to play themselves and I am sure some may not know who they are as performers without a role to play.

However,if Adam is allowed to do original material that has a personal and emotional connection for him, could be a different ballgame. There are many artists who don’t want to spill their guts out and just want to entertain and uplift and there is nothing wrong with that either. All a matter of different styles and different tastes.

Nothing like tooting your own horn. It certainly wasn’t my high point of the show. I think KISS sucks. I felt bad for Adam having to sing with them. My high point definitely was Queen and Kris and Adam. That was epic. For me there’s nothing epic about KISS…I don’t have a lunchbox collection. I do, however, have a Pez collection but I didn’t bother with the KISS collection because as http://www.antimusic.com says:

What took them so long? They have condoms and coffins but if any band was just crying out be made into Pez dispensers, it’s KISS. The wait is now over.
You can now enjoy your Pez candy and line Gene’s pockets at the very same time! Does he really need the cash? Maybe not, but it could help him pay for better writers for his “reality” show.

But don’t get all excited just yet, these are a bit of a rip off. You won’t get actual classic Pez heads made to resemble the likeness of the original KISS members. You’ll get generic orange caps on regular plastic dispensers with what look like stickers on them containing KISS album art.

MTV article about Allison and Gokey

In fact, Howard Benson, who has worked with Chris Daughtry and Kelly Clarkson, doesn’t think Gokey has a future in the industry. “The hardest record to make is Gokey’s record, which is why I don’t think he’s going to make one,” Benson told MTV News. “It would be very tough to make a record with him.

“I don’t think he established who he was at all,” Benson continued, citing a prevailing worry among record execs. “He has this great, soulful voice. But he dresses like some guy that’s in a bar somewhere. He doesn’t look the part.”

Not really surprising, I do think he’s going to make a record tough.

Benson is much more confident à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and excited à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ about Iraheta’s prospects. “I think she’s an easy record to make,” he said, suggesting she might benefit from forming a band, as Daughtry did. “I think you could get all the great rock writers and you make a kickass album with her that’s a great active rock record that crosses into hot AC [adult contemporary] with the softer stuff. I think it’s probably the easiest record to make out of all of them. In some ways it reminds me of Chris.

“I think she was the greatest gainer [over the course of the season],” Benson continued. “I would love to work with her. I think I could make a huge record with that girl.”

It made me feel really good to hear a quote directly from a producer, all we heard so far are positive rumors.
That the guy who worked with Daughtry compares her to them can only be good news.

  • leome

yay!! Go Allison. Love to read that.

The title of best non-winner goes to Chris Daughtry, the intense North Carolina rocker who finished fourth in the showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fifth season, only to have his debut album sell 4 million copies, your votes say.

With 30 responses weighing in, Daughtry was chosen the best non-winner ever by seven of you.

David Archuleta, the youthful crooner from Utah who last season was runner-up to David Cook, came in second again, chosen as the second-best non-winner ever with four votes.

Lambert came in third with three. But several other bloggers, while not saying he was the best non-winner ever, continued to argue he should have won this year.

The montage at the end of Idolatry made me emotional. They picked all the best clips. *sniff*

I doubt Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be watching next season, since I never watched any of he previous seasons Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d say ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a pretty safe bet. Adam brought me into the AI family and Adam takes me out of it.

I am so grateful for this Blog and to you mj for making my first season of AI fantardom so pleasurable an experience. I may not be going back to AI 9 but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m never leaving here. Just as long as you guys promise not to suck me into this anguish that is the AI vortex again next year.

LOL! I said the same thing last year. :wink_wp:

It amuses that Slezak calls this year great. For me, it was still a terrible season, but Kris, Adam, and Allison made it worth it. I thought last year was amazing and swore never to watch AI again, but obviously I lied. In contrast, this year was filled with so much anguish and frustration. It ended well, but honestly, I wouldn’t care to go through it again. I am going to keep that in mind when I’m inevitably tempted to watch next year, but I won’t say never ’cause you never know. ;)

  • KrisAllen1

I like to hear good things about Allison. When Simon said he wouldnt work with her i was pissed.Allison is talented then most female rockers her age.I love her to death and hopes that she can make a solid good record.

  • http://myspace.com hgzaj

LOL How are they going to interview Danny Gokey? I’d be scared. They talked mad crap about him. Well, Kristen did, not Michael. He just contributed… so I’d still be afraid!

  • wellhesback

Regarding Allison, I compare her to Carly from last year, and , (just my opinion) Allison has that “it” factor that Carly didn’t. They both have powerhouse, rocker voices, but I enjoy Allison so much more.

I can only in fairness compare this season to last, and I thought last season was much better overall. More songs from contestans last year. Fewer joke contestants last year. Fewer judges last year!! and I don’t like both finalists singing the winner’s song. Liked the Final 2 format better for Archie & Cookie. Again, just my opinion.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Interesting opinion piece at USA Today
Why Adam Lambert shouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t join Queen

I’ve been meaning to address this, but Adam joining Queen would be 20 steps down for him. Queen had their day, but they are has beens now. They are nothing but a glorified nostalgia act at this point. It’s not a place for a young vibrant talent with tons of promise to be.

A couple of special appearances would be fine. But a regular gig? Oh hell no.

Queen should do like Journey did and find a new lead singer on You tube.

    Matt tweeted this last night:

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m hearing that my duet was posted. Hope everyone liked it. Now ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s time to focus on what Im doing after Idol. Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait for tour!! :)

Sounds like a healthy attitude from a man who is moving on!

Matt is totally that contestant I couldn’t stand on the show that I come to love after the season is over. Go Matt!

I absolutely loved this season of Idolatry. They were really on, almost every episode. I heart Slezak for admitting his Kris appreciation. I kinda feel like we had the same trajectory this season as far as contestant love and growth. We really were on the same page so much of the time. Although, I could never adore Allison as much as he does. No one can…except maybe her parents. Even then…maybe.

Okay, this is just speculative, but Mediabase has changed the label for Kris’s “No Boundaries”. Earlier this week, it was listed as being under 19/RCAMG. Now it’s listed as 19/Jive/JLG on the add pages (link).

I make no secret about how I think Jive takes better care of it’s artists. I’m not going to claim that I think that Jive gets the better artists or that other Sony labels don’t invest more actual money in their artists (Jive is a little cheap), but I think that they do a better job of understanding their artists (in general) and hustling (e.g. getting singles out prior to the albums being released). Jive doesn’t specialize in acoustic artists (I can’t really think of a label at Sony that consistently does other than country labels), but I have hope.

    So, please be true.

  • KrisAllen1

Doesnt Jive take better care of there artist? I know Archie is with Jive.I hope that doesnt mean that Kris is with Disney.I dont know very well but i think mostly young aritst are in that recording company no? I mean Jordan sparks is also with them no?

How does RCA take care of there artists?

  • Jolene

There are positive and negative examples for both labels. I have to admit I never thought Kris would go with Jive… He’s just not really their type of artist. I expected Allison to sign with them, though.

  • Trina

Oh please, please let it be true! Jive is so much better with their artists and actually gets single out early :laugh_tb: I have a love/hate relationship with RCA but I mostly hate them. Jive in no way translates to Disney.

  • KrisAllen1

what type of artist does Jive have?

I’m on there site and they have people like Justin Timberlake,Chris Brown,Lil Mama,Usher,Nick Lachey.I dont think Kris fits with those people other than Nick Lachey and maybe Archie.

  • Kirsten

I hope that doesnt mean that Kris is with Disney.

Well, Disney isn’t an option for an American Idol winner (they have to stay in the Sony family), I would be over the moon if Disney did sign Kris. Disney seems to be a super patient and efficient label. Look how patient they have been with Plain White T’s (on their Hollywood label). “Hey, There Delilah” and “1,2,3,4″ are examples of where their pateince with acoustic artists paid out.

How does RCA take care of there artists?

I find RCA to be a little autocratic and not very patient (if your first single flops, don’t expect a lot of support for your second single). If your vision as an artist dovetails with theirs, your set. If not…well…tough luck. And they have been a bit lazy in getting singles out for new Idols. Daughtry’s first single didn’t go for adds until a couple of weeks after the album dropped. They are not a bad label and they do have a lot of huge successes (which is why they are a large label), but I think Kris would do better at a more personal label like Jive (and it helps that the head of Jive was recently promoted to Clive’s job).

  • leome

The only thing I wanted for Kris was for him not to be in Adam’s label. Jive is good, though now I expect him to go really pop.

  • KrisAllen1

I would of expected Allison to join Jive since she’s young.Maybe Kris is to.I think Jive puts more support and focus on there artist. They have some good artist for there company.Kris might fit.On Kris’s offical website it still says RCA.

Kris and disney wont look good.I wouldnt want him on crap shows.I see what is happening to Archie and i want to scream.

  • ggdoorsfan

Jive in no way translates to Disney.

so true, lololol…. can we frame this and flash it the next time folks make this erroneous assumption, hahahah :wink1_tb:

  • wand3rful

dont hit me but i do think kris can fit in Jive. he is a bit pop/soul…or at least thats what kind of music he wants to make (his words). i see him resembling (a bit) JT more so than Archie (too soft) or Nick Lachey (too pop). from his pre-idol music he seemed to favor bluesy tones to his music, maybe with a bit of Jack Johnson falvor. sorry didnt meant to offend Lachey’s 3 fans ;)

  • KrisAllen1

Sorry about the Jive=Disney.Archie comes to mind and he been on disney alot so i just assumed.

I dont know what to believe.Kris’s offical site says RCA but that link said Jive.

  • Jolene

    I have a love/hate relationship with RCA

The only thing I hate RCA for is their choice in singles. All in all they’ve been very good to DC, IMHO. I happen to know some of Archie’s fans are not too pleased with Jive, either, so I guess everyone has their beefs with the label. If Kris goes with Jive that definitely points towards a more pop and less singer-songwriter career for him. I wonder if Jive would sign both him and Allison. Can’t see her going with anyone else really.

  • Matt

I’m no expert when it comes to record labels, but I know that RCA seems to be handling somebody like David Cook really well. His single was released nearly two months prior to the release of his record and has done a great job keeping him in the public eye with numerous appearances. Even though neither of his singles have become smash hits, it doesn’t seem as if RCA has given up on him (which would be insane). It may have more to do with management rather than record label, but it just seems like I’m always seeing David Cook somewhere, or at least hearing about him.

I haven’t been overly impressed with Jive. Like I said, I’m not record label expert, but I don’t like the way they’ve handled Jordin Sparks and David Archuleta. With Jordin, she has had three platinum singles, one of which was (I believe) triple platinum. Yet Jive didn’t even bother with releasing a 4th single. She had an album full of potential singles that would have probably done very well on CHR. I don’t get it.

With David Archuleta, it seems as if they completely gave up on his album once ALTNOY bombed. While it is less surprising than Jordin’s situation, given that Archie’s album basically faded into oblivion after the Holidays ended, but I still find it perplexing. Like Jordin, Archie had an album full of potential pop hits. From what I’ve heard, they’ve given up on his album and are moving on to conceptualizing album #2. I’m more concerned with Archie than Jordin because he has only had one hit and I never hear anything about him. Jive should put out an Archie EP just to keep his name out there.

I guess what I’m trying to say is Jive doesn’t seem to be a fan of promoting their artists outside of radio play or tends to give up on an album prematurely if it isn’t a monster hit. Whereareas I feel that RCA milks everything they can out of their artists.

  • Kirsten

It may have more to do with management rather than record label, but it just seems like Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m always seeing David Cook somewhere, or at least hearing about him.

It’s his management that’s doing that. Appearances and tours are in their job descriptions.

RCA has treated Cook well, but he has sold a million albums, so I’m not sure that his case demonstrates RCA’s patience with artists.

I’m not saying that RCA is a terrible label. It’s successful. I just don’t think it’s a very personal label.

  • cookbunny

Kris’ appearance on Ellen w/interview and extras:

    http://www.krisallenation.com/2009/05/kris-on-ellen.html

  • KrisAllen1

I see Kris as pop/soul more than anything. As much as I hate to say this Kris has a Nick Lachey vibe about him.

I think RCA tries to control there artist to where they dont have any input.
Wasnt Taylor Hicks and Katherine Mcphee with them? And Kelly Clarkson
couldnt even put out the music she wanted.

I can see Allison going to Jive.I think maybe there trying to get differant artist and Allison and maybe Kris would fit into that.

  • lavender1960

Archie is on Jive Records though isn’t he? Even if Archie is getting the Disney-like treatment, duets with Miley Cyrus, for example, it actually dovetails with his major demographic and he is so young that he like Justin Timberlake and a few others who were bona fide Disney products in the beginning can transition away from Disney as he gets older along with his main fan base.

I didn’t know Disney had a hipper label though.

  • KrisAllen1

Archie is only that Jive has that really been on Disney.

  • ggdoorsfan

Kris and disney wont look good.I wouldnt want him on crap shows.I see what is happening to Archie and i want to scream.

what is happening to david a – let’s see… at 18 years of age, in one year of being a recording artist, he has a 1.7 million selling debut single, that is still selling steadily, a gold debut cd, a sold out solo tour – 22 of 23 venues, a successful and fantastically received sold out promo tours in malaysia and singapore, was the opening act for mcfly in the uk – and bowled the uk crowds over night after night, receiving excellent reviews and responses from the uk crowds, a concert in manila w/cook for an estimated 100k people, an upcoming summer tour in large arenas with demi lovato… in the top 10 list for top american idol earners for 2008….

granted, it has not all be gravy, there have been some head scratching times, but overall, he’s laid a solid foundation for growth and future success… there is still room for improvement in some areas, but that’s the beauty of him being so young – he has that time to continue learning, maturing, honing his craft… jive is the better label for this, and that’s a positive…. for a years worth of work, as a runner up – not too shabby in anybody’s book i say…

  • Kirsten

Wasnt Taylor Hicks and Katherine Mcphee with them? And Kelly Clarkson couldnt even put out the music she wanted.

Taylor was on Arista Records which is part of the RCA Music Group. Kat was on RCA. Blake was also on Arista while Bo, Clay, Daughtry, Diana, Justin and Kelly were/are signed to RCA. Carrie was signed to Arista Nashville which is not related to Arista in anyway*. Fantasia and Ruben were/are signed to J records.

Interesting story about Carrie has come out recently (from the things that make you go “Hunh”? files). Apparently, the original deal with Sony/BMG was that Idols were signed under the RCA MG. So, Carrie was initially signed to Arista and they wanted her to make a pop album (they have no experience with country). With support from 19, Carrie was able to fight to get a country album and the deal was changed slightly so that she could sign with Arista Nashville.

    Earlier linked MTV article.
Why did Carrie Underwood work? She made a country record. They didn’t want to make that record, but she made that record and it worked.

  • gingerly

I think a great majority of the problems the Idols had in the past with RCA were Clive Davis problems…at least I hope so.

  • wand3rful

Thankfully (LOL) Kanye was A-Ok w. kris’s version of heartless

First he posted the performance video on his blog…and now this:

  • KrisAllen1

Kris shouldnt sign with RCA.I mean Daughtry and Kelly are the only ones successful from that label.I will add Cookie as well.but Justin,Bo,Diana,Kat
nobody hears from them anymore.and Clay got played out REALLY fast.

  • lavender1960

Interesting Matt I thought Battlefield was from the same album but I see it is from her new album.

I am not sure it was such a bad call though. Usually record companies do want to milk a record for all the singles they can because it is bottomline cheaper for them and it means more album sales and after 3 hit singles, you got the momentum and radioplay. But it sounds like they were already putting together the new album and it also make sense to put out a new album as soon as you can to also capitalize on the momentum. They may have been excited that the new material was even better.

  • KrisAllen1

Kris and Kayne duet.I think that would be cute if they sang heartless together.
I wonder if Kayne wants to help Kris with his new album?

  • Kirsten

I think a great majority of the problems the Idols had in the past with RCA were Clive Davis problemsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦at least I hope so.

Clive Davis isn’t going anywhere (that guy has more lives than a cat). He’s reported to be the mastermind behind Kelly’s latest album and it’s doing pretty well. He’s a control freak, but he does know what he’s doing sometimes (except when picking songs for Elliott to sing).

  • Jolene

The thing to remember is Jive has only signed two Idols so far – Archie and Jordin. That’s it. It doesn’t have as long a track record with AI finalists as RCA does. Less artists signed is also less opportunity to see how their careers are handled long term – Jordin hasn’t even released her 2nd album. Jive may very well be a better label for some types of artists, but I don’t think it’s black and white at all.

  • KrisAllen1

I think both RCA and Jive both suck from what i hear and read.

RCA also has a history of screwing people over. There’s Kelly Clarkson,Taylor Hicks,Elliot,Clay,Justin,Kat.

Jive might not have many idols but Jordan Sparks still does pretty well with the music industry. As does David Archuleta. Some of there non-idols are also pretty big.

  • lavender1960

I think Clive’s one year contract as Chief Creative Officer [ I kid not not and I assumed it was an honourary title with no power?] is up pretty soon and industry types are wondering what is going to happen at least vis a vis Sony BMG.

Has he lost his edge or just lost the power struggle or he’s satisfied with a lesser role? Wasn’t Clive the one Kelly was butting heads with when she cancelled her tour. Have they kissed and made up?

Speaking of Kris and Kanye, since Kanye has publicly declared that he is making an effort to be nicer and humbler, Kris would be the perfect person to show him the way and then Kanye can trade his musical knowledge. Whatever you think of Kanye his stuff is incredibly original and unique and he is fearless. And no co-incidence that Mr. West is compadre with Mr. Foxx, Kris’s No. 1 Celebrity Fan?

  • nomi

I’m a hit a miss reader on the Idol beat, but I haven’t seen anyone mention the excellent accoustic version of “Heatless” released by The Fray in relation to Kris’ version. Not any criticism intended, just interesting that I haven’t seen it mentioned.

  • wand3rful

if Kanye in any way shape or form contributes to kris’ debut album…i’ll pee in my pants. i know he (kanye) is a big baby when it comes to his public image, but man, the guy is talented. saw him peform live as a special guest during KROQ’s Almoust Acoutisc Xmas here in LA…and wow, he brought down the house. Anyhoo, who knows, maybe he’ll take kris’ fan crush as a hugh compliment and help him to feed his ego :)

  • Kirsten

The thing to remember is Jive has only signed two Idols so far – Archie and Jordin.

I think one of the reasons I give Jive bonus points is that those two seemed like they were going to be tough to market. Both were known for their big, soupy ballads. Ballads that were older than them. Jordin had terrible sales out of the gate. S6 stumbled on all fronts. Archie was predicted to be doomed as not being current (remember the “boo” song?).

So, Jive took that and turned them in to being more successful than I thought they ever would be (imagine what they can do with somebody who already sounds current?). So, that’s one of the reasons I respect Jive. Plus, if you look at their non-Idol artists, they do a really great job. Plus, the head of Jive got Clive’s job, so people in the industry must respect Barry too.

Eh, Jive might destroy Kris’s career, but I’m hopeful. RCA would probably be fine, too. I live on the Knoll.

shouldn’t jive’s track record for their current stable of young artists be used as a more accurate barometer for comparison, relative to jordin and david a?

timberlake, usher, chris brown are considered ”young” or ”younger” artists, and they have been signed to jive for quite a while… usher has weathered some ups and downs relative to sales, he’s still there… lord knows they’ve stuck by chris brown throughout his scandalous behavior of late, and now he’s ”rumored” to be the opening act on michael jackson’s comeback tour…. dunno what that one is about, but i no longer want to confine david or jordin’s success or comparisons strictly in an american idol vein… they are ”running with the big dogs now”, and from the looks of jive’s roster, and the longetivity of many of those young artists, that gives me some assurance that they are right where they need to be… for now. as always, the door is left open for revisiting, hahahah

  • KrisAllen1

I find it veryy cute that two rappers/R&B artist really like Kris. Its interesting because you never think of those of artist to support Kris.

Kayne has musical knowledge when it comes to rap and R&B.Unless Kris wants to be the next eninem i hope they duet but dont share musical advice.

nomi i guess people dont think Kris’s version is like the fray’s? I dont know.

I dont think Kris should work with Clive.Isnt he one of the TPTB.I think he’s one those AI producers who told the judges to bus him half the time.I dont
    trust Clive at all.

  • Kirsten

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a hit a miss reader on the Idol beat, but I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seen anyone mention the excellent accoustic version of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Heatlessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ released by The Fray in relation to Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ version. Not any criticism intended, just interesting that I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seen it mentioned.

Randy himself mentioned the Fray’s version in the show during his critique of Kris’s performance of “Heartless”. Slezak also mentioned the Fray in his recap of the night as have several other columnists. It has been mentioned on this site many times.

  • lavender1960

Nomi we have mentioned it when we first heard that Kris was performing it – from people who were at the dress rehearsal and we all rushed over to watch the You Tube version of the Fray.

I like the Fray version but I thought it was too mellow. I like the music of the Fray but I also like the original Heartless and the version Kris did was to me more in keeping with emotion of the original but no argument the Fray version was very cool. It is said that Kris’s version is similar to an artist named Mia Carruthers who did an acoustic version on MTV. I need to check that version out myself if it is posted on the internet somewhere.

Kanye must be happy that so many people are covering that song, even people he might not expect.

  • KrisAllen1

I wonder if this means Kris will make a apperance on Kayne’s tour like Adam might do lol.I highly doubt it.Kayne seems so much more bigger than Kris.I
think Kris might pee in his pants if he met Kayne lol.

  • lavender1960

Well to me Kanye is not even typical for his genre of music – he has invented his own niche to a degree or at least some of his songs don’t quite fit in any box, so assuming Kris and Kanye ever really have a chance to get together, a lot of the time the press overembellishes this kind of thing, I don’t necessarily conclude his knowledge is limited. I mean Quentin Tarantino gave good advice to the Idol peeps. Some of the best music has come from a collision or fusion of styles, even vastly different ones. Look what “Walk This Way” with Aerosmith and Run DMC did for rap and it’s a classic.

And no I don’t expect Kris to be rapping but some of Kanye’s stuff borders on pop/soul or could be intrepreted that way and that might indeed be Kris’s direction.

  • erinnthered

What makes me happy about seeing Jive is that it makes me more certain Kris will not be addled with anything remotely “Country” in style. He clearly did not want to go that route, and seems to lean towards a more Soul/R&B tinged singer-songwriter vibe. I think this will give him the opportunity to go in that direction.

ITA with Kirsten about RCA. He’d have to be perfect out of the gate to get any attention from them, and Kris is a guy you work with and develop. I just hope you are right about Jive and that attention.

  • KrisAllen1

So its not clear about his album? This worries me.Why hasnt kris picked a deal yet?

  • lavender1960

I think the problem is there is conflicting information out there about which label in the family Kris is attached to.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

    I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a very personal label.

In this day and age where all these labels that used to be their own entity are now under the umbrella of a corporation I’d argue that there are very few, if any, personal labels for any artist who was not already very established by the beginning of this decade.

With the exception of some of the indie labels out there like Sub Pop and even they have a corporate partner.

  • jpfan

Jordin’s new single leads all songs for adds on Top 40 with 36. It’s totally kicking Daughtry (12), Kris Allen (4) and Cook’s (1) butts in this format. So Jive seems to be good at getting hits on Top 40.

Jive is a decent label because they know where there talent belongs. Kris will be allowed to be Kris. They’ve put Jordin (pop/r&b) in the right lane and they’ve adjusted and put DA in the right lane (disney pop tweener). I wouldn’t mind seeing Kris with Jive at all.

Ah, Jolene, it took me too long to copy & paste.

Great to see 4 of our past idols in the top 50 for album sales this week!

  • Matt

Wow. That puts Cook close to 1.15 Million sold. CBTM also got 13 new adds today, some of which are TOP40 stations.

    This cat is doing excellent.

“Wow. That puts Cook close to 1.15 Million sold. CBTM also got 13 new adds today, some of which are TOP40 stations.”

well… technically only 1 chr station that was already playing it.. an auto add… but whos counting right? lol

  • ilovemj

Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve put Jordin (pop/r&b) in the right lane and theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve adjusted and put DA in the right lane (disney pop tweener)

One guesting on Hannah Montana does not equate Disney pop tweener. Jordin’s going to be guesting on the Suite Life of Zack and Cody (Disney), does that make her disney? No! Michael Johns has said he will be guesting on Hannah Montana in the near future. Oh no, has he gone disney? Going on disney shows and being played on Radio Disney is just another vehicle for promotion targetting the younger audience.

Cookie picked up two Top 40 stations (and 11 HAC stations) today:

    KKCT-FM Top 40 Bismarck, ND RCA/RMG Cumulus Broadcasting LLC 286 5/26/2009

KVUU-FM Top 40 Colorado Springs RCA/RMG Clear Channel Communications 94

Cookie picked up two Top 40 stations (and 11 HAC stations) today:

Oh, I didn’t see the other one since it was an unmonitored station (not counted in rankings/charts) LOL

  • luckeee55

I think the labels signing the idols often don’t know what to do with them at first. Jordin and Archie were seen as outdated ballad singers. They are now CHR artists, both of whom are connected with Disney to a point, mostly because of their age and appeal at this time.

Cook is another example. He came out of idol with rock buzz, but RCA has happily settled him into the Adult Comtemporary and Hot Adult Comtemporary category. BBS did nothing on rock radio. CBTM got nice ads today, but only two are Top 40.

It will be so interesting to see where Jive takes Kris and where RCA takes Adam.

  • Jolene

    LaKisha didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t chart?

HDD only counts the Top 50. If she charted there I missed her, but I’ll check again to make sure.

    but whos counting right?

It seems like quite a few people are. Very impressive. :wink1_tb:

  • Cheetara86

I see Allison going with Zomba..I’ve been hearing rumors about what specfic songwriters want to work with Allison

  • ggdoorsfan

Jive is a decent label because they know where there talent belongs. Kris will be allowed to be Kris.

where exactly does kris fall?… i’m wondering what ”kris will be allowed to be kris” entails…. … how do you see them marketing him – singer-songwriter, mraz-ish, timberlake-ish… i like kris ok, but he never grabbed me on any level that had me going, ”yeah”… i’m not gonna underestimate jive, but this is gonna be fun to watch.

  • frogcooke

kkct is unmonitored… so i would hardly qualify it lol.

interesting about the kris jive thing… maybe RCA didnt want him and only wanted mr rawk gawd himself.

  • leome

CBTM also got 13 new adds today, some of which are TOP40 stations.
    This cat is doing excellent.

Yeah Matt. Most added song on HAC. Not bad at all.

The only problem I see with Kris going with Jive is that Jive is not really the label that gives you much freedom and input. They get you some great pop tunes to sing and promote it well, which is nice. But Kris’s journey on Idol was all about his creativity, so it’ll be interesting to see what Jive lets him do.

  • jpfan

Jive is an interesting choice for Kris if the rumor is true. They appeal to a younger demographic than RCA and really know how to get radio play. I think Kris may be going in a much more current direction than people expect.

Give Jive credit for never dropping an Idol they’ve signed. Both Jordin and Archie are working on album #2. And neither was supposed to amount to much in the pop world according to Idol C.W. Jordin was too “big” and “unsexy” and Archie could only do ballads. I guess Kris has the “boring” tag. Maybe, they’ll have him duet with Britney Spears. Isn’t she on Jive?

  • jpfan

Cook always does great from his Idol appearances. It’s good that the song is moving on HAC because on Top 40 it looks like its done. Similiar to the fate of Archie’s second single.

And even Daughtry’s new single isn’t rocketing to the top as you might expect. So a little respect for Jordin Sparks. She’s got the hottest Idol single on the Top 40 chart in terms of new radio adds. My point that people’s careers after Idol can surprise you.

  • Cheetara86

I see Allison with Zomba (they own Jive) and I think she’ll be in good hands..I heard her A&R guy will probably be the same one that helped with Britney’s musical success. Plus, i heard some interesting rumors on what songwriters want to work with Allison.

  • Jolene

Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s performances always seem to sell the album, rather than just a single.

That’s very true and makes me very happy and optimistic about his future. Album sales are generally in the dog house nowadays, and having an album seller means more money for the label. A big plus.

Most added song on HAC. Not bad at all.

Don’t you know the only format that counts is Top 40? Silly! :rolleyes_wp:

Very happy with the HAC adds today. Even happy with that unmonitored Top 40. Imagine that.

  • jpfan

Allison working with Britney’s A&R guy. How depressing.

  • lizland

Sigh. I wish them all the best. Just helps the franchise and ultimately all the Idols.

But speaking of charts (which I don’t follow for any of the Idols except what’s posted here), how is David A. Touch My Hand single doing? Isn’t that the song he sang on Idol? I thought that would maybe hit with the radio disney/tween crowd on Top 40.

From what I understand, it was almost released as a single but they decided to go with Zero Gravity instead, which will be out in a few weeks.

I could be completely wrong, though. Somehow I got that idea in my head, and I’m not sure where it came from. :blink_tb: :laugh_tb:

Zero Gravity doesn’t have an add date either. I have a feeling Jive is going to release ZG on iTunes as a way to appease fans who have been wanting a third single since forever. I think the next single we’ll be hearing from Archie will be from his second album.

  • wordnerdarchie

Well that is very strange on the Touch My Hand thing

If “Touch My Hand” never went for adds, then which single will be? Isn’t it about time for a new single to be released, or is Jive moving on to the next album? I’m a little confused as to what is going on with DA’s album these days.

ETA: DA had a great reception in the UK and in Manila, as well as on tour in the US. So I would think that he’d be having a new single soon, or am I mistaken?

ETA2: Well, I see my question was answered above while I was posting my questions. Thanks Victoria, for the info.

  • frogcooke

actually I dont think zg is a radio single either. btw. There would have been some sorta adds date etc etc

Most likely scenario is that an EP comes out with ZG on it. including a live version and a few other songs(live versions? or new ones? we dont know.. i think probably live versions)

    ETA:
“I think the next single weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be hearing from Archie will be from his second album.”

Still wondering whats with that song on ascap.. its the only song under his name(writing credits) that we have never heard of before.. maybe its a lead single for album 2 or maybe not.. again nobody knows… lol

    ETA2:
wna – there wont be a 3rd single from the current album.. or it would have been out already. My guess they are waiting for a lead single for album 2..

  • wordnerdarchie

Frogcooke, so are you saying that Jive won’t be promoting album #1 for DA anymore, but is moving on to #2? That seems a bit fast, don’t you think?

ETA: Frogcooke, thanks for the quick answer. I don’t profess to know why labels do what they do, but will be waiting for the next album then. :)

ETA2: I was kind of hoping for YEDL to be released, I think it would be a big radio hit. Oh, well.

  • Matt

Not with one CHR add and a -18 bullet on CHR it ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t

CHR is not the end all, be all of radio play. As some have mentioned, CBTM was the most added song on HAC. While HAC isn’t as flashy as CHR, it’s still adds, which could prolong the life of a song. The fact that DC had a negative bullet doesn’t mean the song is dying. It just means it’s not doing as well on CHR.

Even with the adds aside, DC is still selling his album quite well. Platinum and counting.

  • Trina

Felicia Barton will be opening for Cook this next Saturday, at the Virginia Beach show.

  • Jlyn

What makes me laugh about the fanwars thing is that the guys are all part of the same corporation. One that is doing very poorly. Sony just posted their first one year total loss in their history. Every aspect of their business is down, including gaming- which was supposed to be recession proof (it had been in the past). The money has to come from somewhere to make and promote your favorites records. (Especially those who are going to try to record and promote this year.) Just because they are sorted into different labels doesn’t mean that they don’t draw from the same ultimate corporate kitty. Rooting for your favorites “rival” to fail is truly biting off your nose to spite your face. So, for me – sell like crazy all you Sony signed Idols.

As to the CHR debate vs. HAC. CHR has more stations and a hit their will get more spins so getting good play there is always desirable. However, it is not the be all end all. To get away from the Davids for a minute, Matt Nathanson has had luck with Come on Get Higher breaking on HAC then transfering to Top 20 on CHR later. (He now has a new song on HAC – we will see if he can do it twice.) Will that happen for CBTM? Who knows. However, I do think Jive has some myopia with regard to CHR. It is a very difficult format to get spins on. As Archuleta and Elliott have proven, just because you have one hit on CHR doesn’t mean you get anther one automatically. A spin is a spin. CHR will take hits from other formats. IMO ALTNOY sounded more HAC/AC than it did pop and Jive should have promoted it too those formats as well. I think it could have done well and given Archie some momentum.

  • Matt

But maybe DC is planning on singing more of his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“lighterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ songs at Virginia Beach.

I doubt it. I think it’s just David being Mr. Nice Guy once again and giving a fellow Idol a chance to shine.

2 Questions: I’ve heard a lot of people talking about Allison signing with Jive or Zomba. Is this true, a rumor, or just wishful thinking? Also, I’ve heard Jive owns Zomba, but I thought Zomba owned Jive. Which way is it?

ETA: Felicia and Cook seem like a strange pairing to me, but good for her for getting a gig like that right after Idol! Pretty nice.

  • Jolene

The Billboard Hot 100 isn’t out yet. Believe me, you’ll know when it’s out.

Oh, but it is. At least, it is when DC is doing better in other formats.

Matt, haven’t you learned yet, you can’t make a positive remark about DC here without qualifying it. If you don’t, be sure someone will jump right in there for you… The joys of Idol fanwars, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Felicia Barton will be opening for Cook this next Saturday

Aww, Felicia. You and Jesse were sorely missed in the finals this year.

Matt Nathanson is opening too – and I haven’t heard much of his stuff but he also strikes me as pretty laid back. It’s the beach :) … laid back will be fine and then if Cookie wants to rock out… yay. His set list changes but I am betting he still has some of the “harder” songs on there (Kiss on the Neck, Barbasol).

    Trina, I’m going too… I’m so excited!

This is a festival, other acts will be there, such as Matt Nathanson, Cook is the headliner. Felicia seems to be pop/rock, singer-songwritter stuff, I think it can fit nice.

I’m starting to feel much better about Kris’s first album, esp. if he is going with Jive. I can understand what Kirsten is saying about them being more personal with the artist. Pop/soul sounds about right to me. I am a little sad about the lack of acoustic though. However, I didn’t see this happening with RCA anyway. For some reason I just think they’ll see the talent Kris has and work it out for the best.

Also, yay for DC’s album placement! Woot!

  • oceana

Thanks for the link to the Allison article on MTV. I like what Howard Benson said about her:

Benson is much more confident à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and excited à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ about Iraheta’s prospects (than gokey’s).

  • hollygo9

So, do you think that Danny Gokey sings No Boundaries in the shower and thinks to himself ‘nailed it.’ ?

  • wordnerdarchie

Oh, but it is. At least, it is when DC is doing better in other formats.

    :lol_tb:

ETA: I wish I could go to Virginia Beach…sounds like the line-up is terrific. But alas, going 1/2 way across the country just isn’t feasible, so all of you that are going…have a great time.

  • Victoria

Jive is under the Zomba Label Group.. for anyone wondering.. like La Face is another one under Zomba.

    Ah, okay. Thanks!

I’m glad Kris is (probably) going with Jive. Sounds like a better fit for him than RCA, who don’t seem to have much patience with artists who have a different idea of what they want to do than the label does. I think Kris has a better idea of the type of music he should make than any label, TBH. He just seems to have that kind of music sensibility about him.

  • annabelina

Further proof that the Idol producers were on crack this season.

  • shell29

Oh, but it is. At least, it is when DC is doing better in other formats.

It’s not just Cook that gets it though. I think part of the reason Ruben and Fantasia don’t seem to get as much respect as winners is that they’ve never crossed over and had mainstream/CHR success. Both of them have had #1 hit songs on Urban and/or Urban AC, but in Idol land that doesn’t seem to count for much. When it comes to the Idols, if you haven’t made it big on CHR, it just doesn’t matter (or at least it seems that way sometimes).

  • KrisAllen1

I’m sure Danny sings NB to himself in a car and thinks that he’s better than adam and kris and claps for himself.

Do you think Cook picked Felicia to be his opener, or does the festival just put the line up together. I thought it was the latter.

I don’t know how it works for the festival, but a lineup of Felicia, Matt Nathanson and DC? I would go to that show in a heartbeat. Too bad I’m far far away from Virginia Beach.

  • leome

Do you think Cook picked Felicia to be his opener, or does the festival just put the line up together. I thought it was the latter.

Felicia lives in Virginia Beach, my guess is that the festival just invited their hometown girl, and with her being on idol it goes well with Cook.
I don’t think they get to pick opening acts for festivals, or David’s opening act, Ryan Star, would be there, and he won’t.

  • unidentified

Well I think they should make all the Idols do rap or hip hop or maybe dance songs like Waking Up In Vegas or Boom Boom Pow or some such. If they want the top 40 adds.

They can all wear headsets and dance around. It would be awesome! :rolleyes_wp:

Okay, this is just speculative, but Mediabase has changed the label for Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Boundariesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Earlier this week, it was listed as being under 19/RCAMG. Now ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s listed as 19/Jive/JLG on the add pages (link).

What is Adam listed as?? Is he on Mediabase yet?

I started to post that myself but I see I’m late to the party. LOL Yep, under the new music section it still lists RCA for both.

I hope that Jive is correct in Kris’ case. To add to what Trina said upthread about season 6, that 3 month wait was a very long wait indeed. Last year we only had to wait a week to get DC’s announcement and then another 7 days for Archie’s which was a big improvement from the year before. lol

yeah only kris has an official single out. though xm does occasionally play adams version lol lol

With all the acronyms and the labels and their parent groups and the types of radio stations etc. I am totally confused…in a pleasant after Thanksgiving satiated way. I think I figured most of everything out…it took me a while to figure out CHR but I got it, eventually.

Question for the Cookies, please. Is he touring all summer with the same format now that school is out…or is he doing mostly festivals and fairs? I would think the poor man would like some time to take a nice long vacation somewhere and to get busy on his second album. He isn’t hooking up with a major tour of anykind is he?

    Thanks….

Speaking of Jive, here is a press release about Jordin’s new album:

Jordin Sparks Set to Release New Album “Battlefield” on July 21

Title Track Is The #1 Most Added Single At Radio

Sparks Prepares To Go On The Road As A Special Guest On The Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009

NEW YORK, May 26 /PRNewswire/ — 19 Recordings/Jive Records artist Jordin Sparks is set to release her sophomore effort Battlefield on July 21st. Sparks is off to a great start with the album launch. This week the lead single and title-track “Battlefield” is the No.1 “most added single” at pop radio, according to industry monitoring service Mediabase. Sparks recently premiered “Battlefield” on American Idol.

  • KrisAllen1

I would like to see Fergie or Pink work with Allison.

I dont know why but i think Ryan Tedder would work well with Kris.

Kara said she’s not worried about Danny because he’ll do fine and that she’s more worried about Allison.I would be more worried for Danny.Allison can sing
better than most rockers her age.She brings something new.I dont want her to be another Pink.We have one and i dont like her.

Good point! I guess you would need an official single to be listed on Mediabase. Thanks for the reminder. lol

You don’t need an official single to be listed on Mediabase. They track all songs played (for a certain duration) on the stations they monitor. I’ve been reporting spins based on Mediabase charts all season for unreleased songs (and before the days of iTunes singles, some stations used to spin what they ripped from the show and it would show up on Mediabase).

Further, Adam’s “No Boundaries” is also listed on AllAccess in the “Cool New Music” page. His label on that page is listed as RCA’s, but so is Kris’s.

During the summer he’s doing mostly festivals and fairs, but lately new club dates have surfaced for June, so he’ll probably do those too, they’re coming in bits. And there are a couple of casino dates…
The band Green River Ordinance has twittered that they’ll be touring with Cook after the summer. So it looks like he’ll keep on doing his solo tour for the fall. But that isn’t confirmed yet… just that twitter.
As for the new album, he and the band write while on tour, but I think David has said they’re not really working on it full time anytime soon.

well rumors are rumors untill they arent rumors anymore one way or the other.. lol

I remember very well the Ryan rumors for the Davids last year… and that was it, rumors.

David’s taking the first couple of weeks of June off, then continuing to tour through the summer and early fall. He’s doing fairs, festivals, and clubs (I think at least some of the clubs are larger than the ones he’s been playing lately). He’s not opening for anyone else at this point, but his schedule isn’t full yet, so I suppose he could possibly still do a short run with someone else. As for a second album- his first one’s only been out for 6 months and is still selling well. It looks to me like RCA artists usually put out albums every 2-3 years, so I’m hoping he’ll go back to the studio next Spring, but who knows?

I hate to keep defending Gorkey but I found this quote that MTV article kind of weird:
“He has this great, soulful voice. But he dresses like some guy that’s in a bar somewhere. He doesn’t look the part.”

Of all the reasons to not make an album with someone, I wouldn’t put “not looking the part” at the head of the list.

Fox video interview with David A and the MS Society donation

    http://www.fox13now.com/news/kstu-david-archuleta-returns-to-utah-for-charity,0,2854225.story

SALT LAKE CITY – David Archuleta, the season seven runner-up on American Idol, returned to Utah on Tuesday to present a check to the Multiple Schlerosis Society. Archuleta worked with Cypress Credit Union, who helped raise some of the funds for the check. He said the society is especially close to his heart because he has a lot of friends that struggle with MS.

Archuleta said the Phillipines show sold over 52,000 tickets and thousands more outside watched the concert.

He confirmed they are already working on the second album..

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if he had the biggest hit out of everybody? I think Kristen at EW’s head would explode. Heh.

Jive is a good label, but it seems weird to picture Kris there. They have mostly pop stars with heavy teen appeal, and they lean R&B. It could work I guess, its just an unexpected pairing if it turns out to be true. Interesting…

He also said Gokey hadn’t established a musical identify which I agree with. But I find the quote about the attire lame. Maybe everything comes down to being a package artist at this point. Why fight it.

  • frogcooke

Well Jive also has people like Lesley Roy and Amie Mireillo(sp?)

  • tinawina

He also said Gokey hadnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t established a musical identify which I agree with.

True. But there were lots of people on idol who could say the same thing… like Kelly didn’t really have one for example. Neither did Archie or Jordin. But they all could sing and were appealing, and they got paired with good pop songs that fit their natural personalities and vocal strengths.

Not that I think Gokey is all that appealing in a pop way. I’m just trying to keep an open mind. LOL.

Well Jive also has people like Lesley Roy and Amie Mireillo(sp?)

Isn’t Leslie Roy a teen? I don’t know who the other one is. LOL. I just mean Kris doesn’t obviously seem to play to Jive’s strengths. But hey, like I said, I’m open!

  • KrisAllen1

The thought of Danny appealing in a pop way makes me laugh. He would appeal to gospel and maybe country lovers.I really dont think Danny knows
who he is as a artist. He triies to hard and didnt play the competition to his
strenth. For him I felt like he was trying to compete with the others and not
    himself.

I think everyone knew what kind of artist Jordan sparks was going to be.I also think most people knew Archie would make it big because of his teen fanbase.
I dont remember much about Kelly and what people thought about her on her season.

  • leome

Well Jive also has people like Lesley Roy

I dunno who’s the other one, but isn’t Lesley kinda of a young Pink? Pop/rock leaning on pop? Ãâ‚ ¬ la Kelly Clarkson too? That’s what it sounds to me.
I don’t think it has anything to do with Kris.

  • Tess

Another question for Cookies…. Since I don’t visit fan sites anymore.

Did his current band play on the initial album release or was it the “house” band? I’m assuming that his contract Through AI also put him through as a solo artist but that he would like to “Daughtrify” himself and turn his career into a “rock band” format. Truth?

If this is true its so very interesting because it is so opposite of the “normal” procedure: ie. The Police, Genesis, BEP, NoDoubt.

  • frogcooke

no lesley isnt a teen i think shes like 21?? I think. No clue on Amie… they both opened for DA on his tour. Both on Jive.

A thought on Danny…when its his turn to make his press tour (oh the heartache of 3rd place) it will be interesting to me to see if he gets a quick 30 second “hi, how are you” and a song…or if he gets the full blown sit on the stool and have the hosts really talk to him. I think that will say a bunch about what his cred outside of Idol.

  • KrisAllen1

Jive also has Justin Timberlake/Nick Lachey/Usher.I think Kris would benifit from being on that label. There is a bit of hip-hop that i can hear on Kris’s
    album.

Can someone tell me who Anthony Hamilton is? He’s on that label but i dont think i know the name.

David Archuleta’s charitable side shows through
    http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_12454803

On Tuesday, David Archuleta, Murray’s “America Idol,” dropped by the West Jordan branch of the Cyprus Credit Union to accept a $50,000 donation for his charity, David vs. Goliath, dedicated to fighting Multiple Sclerosis.

The young singing star supports dozens of causes, but finds working to end MS “touching,” because he has watched family friends live with the disease.

Archuleta, who is touring this summer with Disney’s Demi Lovato, will sing the national anthem before the Real Salt Lake’s match with Colorado on June 6, and will perform after the game. The performance is part of the Rio Tinto Stadium’s “Charity Begins at Home” event, benefiting “Hill Air Force Base’s “Operation Warmheart.”

Did his current band play on the initial album release or was it the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“houseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ band

Neal Tiemans, David Cook’s current guitar player on tour, also played lead guitar on his album. The other musicians on his record I believe were supplied by RCA.

Andy Skibb, who plays keyboard and guitar and does back up vocals on tour, was the lead singer on MWK, while Neal Tiemans was lead guitar player and band manager of MWK. David Cook (while living in Tulsa prior to Idol) sang backup vocals and played guitar with MWK. It’s good to see that David remembered his friends and was able to get them added to his touring band.

David and the band are in the process of coming up with a name for themselves. It should be announced in the near future. They have said that they plan on staying together after this tour is finished, and that they have started writing some new songs during some of their free time on tour.

Lots of questions, LOL. David’s lead guitar player and music director, Neal Tiemann, played guitar on DCTR and cowrote Kiss on the Neck. He’s the only one from the band who’s credited on the album, but the keyboard player and rhythm guitar player, Andy Skib, was also hanging around during the recording of the album, so he may have had some uncredited input. Both were part of the band David was in immediately before Idol. They are currently jumping through the legal hoops to name the band. They wanted to have the band named before the album came out, but couldn’t agree on anything that wasn’t taken already. I’m not sure what you mean by Daughtrify, since David was both in a band and doing solo work when he auditioned for Idol. I’m not sure if this has been officially said, or is just fan rumors, but the thought is that they’ll be something like David Cook and the…

Anyway, I do understand what you’re saying about musicians getting famous as part of a band, then going solo. David’s “solo and famous” time was pretty brief though, basically the AI season and tour. His first big appearance post-tour was SNL on Nov. 1, and the band was already with him then. There are bands where only the band leader is signed, and everyone else works for them, even though we think of them as rock bands, Bon Jovi being the famous example.

Well if Danny decides to go the country route, he could have a hit single…

ETAA: I think that part of the reason TPTB may have seemed to pushing the country route with Kris, is that his songs tell a story, and the best country songs do that. However, “Heartless” is a great storytelling song (imho) and it’s not country.

I don’t think the country thing would work for Danny. Country music fans are very particular about who they listen to. Danny isn’t from the South, so he would have a very difficult time earning credibility in the business. Also, country fans seem to prefer artists who started out country and stay country. If Danny suddenly decided to make the switch it wouldn’t bide well for him. He doesn’t have much of a country lifestyle, either, which can be an issue because fans like the singers to be authentically country.

That’s what I’ve seen anyway, living in the south.

  • wellhesback

The other Cook fans answered the questions re his upcoming dates and his band already. I’d just like to add that I think it’s really cool that he brought two of his good friends on board that he had been playing with already for years. ( I imagine Neal, the lead guitar player, was pretty happy to have played on a platinum album.) And the 2 “new guys” have blended in super (I say after hearing them live; no claims of objectivity). I’m glad Cookie & the band keep adding some dates – I get to see them again in July!

Actually he is a Kiwi (originally from New Zealand), but at least the “south” part is right. Still sounds funny to listen to him sing with a twang and then speak with his cross-New Zealand/Aussie accent.

Eh, Danny doing country isn’t gonna fly, just because he’s not really into it. I know he sang a couple of country tunes on the show, but smack my ass and call me sally* if that means he’s marketable in country. See Stacey, Phil. The also rans who do okay (Kellie and Bucky) were seriously country from the get go.
