Producer Tricky Stewart predicts an Idol winner (and more)

McCreery and Alaina, which tells you something about his ear for understanding mainstream popularity.

“It wasn’t because they were country singers, but they had a vocal identity. I knew Scotty’s voice had a purity and familiarity to that era in time and that he would be a force to be reckoned with, and Lauren was so talented. I really, really love her voice, ” he said, adding with another chuckle, “but I’m mad about the fact that she lives in Georgia and I didn’t have the chance to meet with her before [‘Idol’].”

Is Nikki Reed’s Idol Boyfriend a Birthday Bummer?

We were the first to break the news that Twilight babe Nikki Reed is dating former American Idol contestant Paul McDonald, so it seems fitting that we’re the first ones to ask if things are looking rocky for the rock ‘n’ roll twosome.

Now, it may be a bit premature to sound the splitsville alarm (we’re rooting for this duo, after all), but we’re way big on body language and Pauly looks totally…

…bored out of his messy bed head mind!

J. Lo: The Sequel

SHE arrived like a modern-day Cleopatra, smiling and waving down at her adoring masses from the top deck of a trolley, her blown-out tresses fluttering in the wind.

“Lauren Bacall said, ‘It’s all about exits and entrances, ’ ” clucked Jennifer Lopez’s publicist as the star — Saran-wrapped in a sparkly gold jumpsuit — descended the trolley stairs and tottered atop perilously high heels toward a makeshift red carpet set up at the Grove, an outdoor mall in Los Angeles, where she was taping a segment for “Extra.”

Reviewing the Fox Upfront: Things Are Easier When You’re Number One

Last year, Fox began its upfront with Glee and spent the entire program trumpeting the show, almost cackling that its opponents didn’t have it, and unveiling a fairly ambitious slate of new shows (that almost all flopped). This year, the slate is far less ambitious and the cackling has been muted, but life is still pretty good at the No. 1 network. Compared with NBC’s ponderous, effortful performance this morning, Fox’s presentation felt relatively light. Certainly, it was a good 30 minutes shorter. And it still started with Glee.

Hines Ward on Kym Johnson’s injury: ‘I was sick’

“I was sick, ” Hines told reporters afterwards. “You never wanna see your partner…we’ve been together for 10 weeks and that Friday was the worst Friday ever, to see your partner carted off and just being in the hospital with her and going over the MRIs. You start contemplating, what could I have done? Could I have prevented the fall? You start second guessing yourself and then you put things in perspective. It was a trying week. To be honest with you, I didn’t even think about dancing. I was more concerned with her safety than anything.”

Glee’s Jonathan Groff on Jesse St. James’ “Rock Scream, ” Shrugging Off Newsweek

Before Glee, Jonathan Groff would have not been able to sing Adele’s guttural, smoldering anthem of heartbreak, “Rolling in the Deep, ” which he used to swagger back onto the hit show last week. The actor, previously best known for his work in New York theatre, says it was Glee that taught him to rock out.

“The first song I sang with Vocal Adrenaline was ‘Highway to Hell’ and I remember calling [music producer] Adam Anders and saying, ‘Maybe we should sit down with a piano instead because I don’t sing like this, ‘” Groff tells TVGuide.com. “But he pulled out this side of my voice I didn’t know existed, this rock scream. It has totally changed the way I sing.”
