Siobhan Magnus explains the ill-fated ‘Teen Idols’ week, takes issue with ‘scream’ label, more at ‘Dream’ house

Nevertheless, we tried to make the most of our time with Siobhan, who was adorably charming in every way — but we already knew that from watching her on the show. So what did we learn about Massachusetts’ first Top 10 contender and the crazy three months she’d just experienced? Plenty.

Starting with the song she was planning on performing for next week’s Frank Sinatra theme: the Sid Vicious version of “My Way.” How much would that have rocked? Or not.

Siobhan’s Post-Idol Plans: Dork Out with Her Boyfriend

She was known for her quirky outfits and kooky charm, but most of all, Siobhan Magnus made her mark by hitting unbelievable closing notes in every performance. She will do so again, no doubt, when the American Idol tour starts up in the summer! PEOPLE talked to Magnus, who was eliminated Wednesday despite a strong performance the night before, about her dream of collaborating with Hanson and Hole, why Lee DeWyze owes her $50 and going home to dork out with her boyfriend. –Cynthia Wang

What’s wrong with American Idol? Nothing

Enough with the hand-wringing.

Ratings are down, catcalls are up and the Idolosphere is a-twitter over how this season’s American Idol talent pool is wallowing in the shallow end.

A four-page lamentation in April 2′s Entertainment Weekly, headlined “Why Can’t The New Idols Sing?,” blames the dearth of vocal ability on everything from too much guitar strumming to a tired songbook to a surfeit of style at the expense of substance and good-old-fashioned singing ability. All of which is true.

But American Idol, at its core, has always been about finding that one diamond in the rough. Preferably a diamond that is uncut, unpolished and unproven

OK! EXCLUSIVE: ‘American Idol’ Shows Lady Gaga the Money

Even though the mega pop star has appeared on American Idol two years ago with a live performance of “Just Dance,” Lady Gaga began to make her own demands for her second time around.

OK! NEWS: AMERICAN IDOL — WHAT WASN’T ON TV FOR SIOBHAN’S ELIMINATION

When American Idol approached the outrageous singer, she demanded a paycheck of $250,000 to appear on the hit Fox show. Producers of the show hesitated to pay her that amount of money.

“They thought it was just crazy she was asking for so much money,” a source tells OK! “It was just too much money to pay talent for a performance.”

Crushes dominate Idol

Well, Siobhan fans — what happened?

I certainly didn’t think her take on Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine” was bulletproof, but I would rather see what Siobhan’s going to do next week than say, Aaron Kelly.

Jordin Sparks review: Wolf Den show deserved a larger audience

It took a while for the crowd at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den to realize they were seeing a fantastic show.

But Jordin Sparks delivered a set Saturday that was not only arena-level entertaining, but both pitch-perfect and dynamically sung. And the crowd would just have to keep up with her.

The first stop on her Battlefield tour, Sparks’ show was clearly meant for a bigger and more enthusiastic audience than those packed into the Den, but that didn’t keep her or her band from enjoying themselves throughout the one-hour show.

Yay!!! i flove Dermot O’Leary !!! So much better than Seacrest. I’m so ready to move on from idol to X-factor.
Btw. Lady Gaga performed poker face on idol and it was a year ago!
The performance sounds like Lady Gaga trying to be a gay man part 34657. It’s going to be AMAZING!!!

I don’t believe Gaga wanted 250k for the performance. Maybe budget included, but not just for the performing.

I like Glee as much as the next person but I cannot for the life of me figure out why people keep downloading those songs. I downloaded a few and only ended up playing them once, and I even went to the trouble to really figure out how to get songs off my ipod so they don’t come up on my shuffle. I guess it’s one of those SuBo things.

I read the Jordin review. Why the critic repeats how unenthusiastic the crowd was? And that she had to win them over. It’s her tour. Aren’t the majority fans of Jordin? i don’t get it.

Mohegan Sun is a casino and casino shows do usually have comps where a lot of the audience isn’t necessarily there as a fan. The casino crowds usually aren’t as enthused or knowledgeable as your regular concert crowds. So I think it’s very possible significant parts of last night’s crowd weren’t there because they’re big Jordin fans.

The State reviews Carrie’s concert last night in Columbia, South Carolina

Carrie Underwood doesn’t need a big production to steal the hearts of a crowd.

All she needs is a microphone.

Underwood is a superior singer; her voice has a large range that she uses liberally and to stirring effect.

But, now that the former “American Idol” is a headlining superstar, she also has a big production to back up her vocal talent.

More at the link. Bottom line is he’s blown away by her voice but thinks she needs a different costume designer.

There were tons of tweets as usual raving about Carrie’s concert and voice last night. What makes them more amazing last night is word is Carrie’s under the weather. The girl is a fighter and a pro.

The Wolf Den where Jordin performed is where they have the free concerts. There’s a small seating area but you can stand around the perimeter to watch. For the most part, people who are there gambling may stroll over to watch a show for a few minutes (I’ve done that myself)and move on. The Wolf Den is not to be confused with the Mohegan Sun arena which seats 10,000 people. That’s where you will find the “regular concert crowds”. I have seen many shows there. It’s a great venue.

  • BestAI

The Wolf Den only seats 300. It seems to be a rather small venue for Jordin.

  • Trina

As I said the other day Tropicana offered me free tix for Jordin and I would have gone if the show wasnt canceled. I like Jordin well enough to go for free and Atlantic City is literally 10 minute from my house, but I wouldn’t have went nuts in the crowd.

Now why in gods name is she playing the Wolf Den? Anytime I went to Mohegan people like David Cassidy and Jack Wagner played O.o

  • chicksineggz

You’re right about glee. But there are many songs on glee in which I didn’t like the original version, but love the glee version. (such as Keep Holding On)

But about AI, I think most people under 20 think AI is lame. Most people that watch AI are much older.

  • YankeeFan08

I know there’s a difference between the arena and Wolf Den. But having been to concerts at the Mohegan Sun arena I still don’t think it’s usually as good as a regular concert crowd. There’s definitely a much higher percentage of people paying because they actually want to be there as opposed to comps though so it’s a lot better than a regular casino crowd.

So they need a 4th guy… and preferably an American with Cheryl and Simon on the panel. Any speculation who?

I think it’s safe to say it will be a guy, probably american. I think Simon will want someone young-ish (well if his ego won’t be the obstruction here), but with lots experience and possibly an entertainer. It’s not going to be Usher (lol), but i would like to think that someone like Justin Timberlake is on Simon’s radar (now that he doesn’t care about his own music so much). Or maybe Didi… i don’t know. Or he could want someone unknown. He and Paula(???) that’s enough star factor + i personally love Cheryl (i think she’s going to be a star)- she’s kinda Katy Perry-ish, but more mature if it makes sence.

  • weareallinnocent

I’m beyond amused that Lady GaGa and Harry Connick, Jr will perform on the same AI show. (Even taped, it’s funny to me!) AI must have wanted her to appear really badly to squeeze her into Sinatra week. Or else (and more likely) she’s that episode’s ratings saviour. Heh.

And, yeah, OK Mag, she appeared last year, complete with stage full of over-sized bubbles and a zippered eye patch. I doubt there was any bit of controversy whatsoever about funding her appearance. None.

  • girlygirl

I think with most concerts held at casino venues there will be a fair amount of people in the crowd who are there mainly to gamble and are at the concert just because they’re curious or they want to take a break from the gambling. Or if it’s in a club with food, so they can get some dinner and listen to some music before going back to their gambling…

And in the bigger venues at casinos a lot of times the VIP tix are given out to the high rollers…not to the hardcore fans of whatever artist is playing…

This is not how it is at the Mohegan Sun arena. They have big name acts who sell out the arena weeks or months ahead. You can’t just walk into the arena and expect to get a ticket to see the show. Like people who are spending weekend in the casino can just go watch her? that’s unbelivable. Her core fanbase is not casino visitors i think, so why is she even playing there? I found out that Kara Dio Guardi is playing there in 2 weeks. Jordin’s management sucks. Her songs are good, she sings good, i don’t know where’s the problem.

I am no fan of The Truth… and I don’t think that song can make a pop cross over… which means a lot less sold in single copies. And since Kris album is selling little right now it would have been nice with another platinum single. Kellys single is basically only charting on HAC (with a really strong bullet as well) and it’s not selling much.

ahhh – okay gotcha. I don’t know enough about the songs on Kris’s album to know what might be a crossover hit. I just thought the song would do well. You never know though!

No doubt. May sweeps have started, so I assume they’ll be loading up the programs with as many ratings grabbers as they can, whether they fit the theme or not. I’m sure that pre-taped Bieber appearance will be showing up in the next couple weeks. Too bad they dropped the Manufactured-Bubblegum-Pre-Teen-DreamTeen Idol theme. He’d have been perfect.

I think they are saying for IIHY that it won’t cross over to HAC and “will live or die” on pop. Lol that. Was a quote from one of the mods on AO a few weeks ago when they were saying they wernt releasing it for adds yet because WWFM still had life on HAC.

I wish both the guys much success with their new singles

If IIHY is big on pop I am sure there is a chance it will chart a bit on HAC. It will probably not be a big HAC song but both Kesha and Gaga chart on HAC. Sometimes I think HAC is more open to new pop than POP is.

  • Hazehel

This is kinda sad. Jordin is besides Kelly the most successful idol on pop radio and also outside US. And she is performing for 300 people for free? Like people who are spending weekend in the casino can just go watch her? that’s unbelivable. Her core fanbase is not casino visitors i think, so why is she even playing there? I found out that Kara Dio Guardi is playing there in 2 weeks. Jordin’s management sucks. Her songs are good, she sings good, i don’t know where’s the problem.

The problem is that people aren’t paying to see her. Her tour looks to be in a bit of trouble, cancelled dates, throwing in some free shows, doesn’t sound good at all. If her fans can’t be bothered to turn up for the free ones, what’s the likelihood of them actually paying to see her?

I personally think IIHY could have a better time of being able to chart on BOTH POP and HAC if it does well on POP, than TT being able to move over to POP if it does well on HAC. For some reason, the move from POP to HAC seems easier than vice versa.

Oh, and can I just say for the millionth time that seeing how Adam is received overseas just has me tearing up and so happy for him :-) I love seeing that int’l love for him!

    Best of the Best

I HAVE a whole bank of memories when it comes to American Idol performances over the last few years. And I revisit them from time to time thanks to YouTube, which is why I find it so hard to like this season’s contestants – they just fall short of expectations as compared to my favourites from previous years. [...]

Here are five performances of all time which I rate the best of the best (in no particular order). I’d rather watch reruns of these any day of the week than face this year’s final:

    Fantasia – Summertime, 2004 [...]

    Bo Bice – Whipping Post, 2005 [...]

    Elliott Yamin – A Song For You, 2006 [...]

David Archuleta – Imagine, 2008: Until Archuleta emerged, I would have loathed the idea of anyone other than John Lennon singing Imagine, let alone changing it up and trying to make it their own. But little Archuleta came, he sang, he conquered. He owned the stage and there was no way anyone watching that performance could have not been touched by it. Another vocal masterclass.

Adam Lambert – Mad World, 2009: One of my all-time favourite Idol contestants because he is just in a (glamboyant) class of his own. Lambert brought it on week after week, so much so it was no longer American Idol we were watching; it felt like The Adam Lambert Show. One of his best performances on the show – which I’ve since had the opportunity to watch live too (woohoo!) – was the hauntingly dramatic Tears For Fears tune, Mad World. Cowell gave Lambert a standing ovation. And as we all know, those standing o’s don’t come easy.

That Cary Aspinwall column in Tulsa World is spot on — and funny!

Yay to Dermot O’Leary and Cat Deeley! (I wonder if Ryan Secrest is getting nervous?) Maybe Simon will consider Ben Folds for the fourth judge slot. He can’t be too expensive (unlike Justin Timberlake), and he was the only good thing about that awful show “The Sing Off.”

  • Judee

If her fans can’t be bothered to turn up for the free ones, what’s the likelihood of them actually paying to see her?

Well maybe if they don’t set up the concerts in stupid casinos, her fans woud come. Her fans are top 40 radio listeners, are YOUNG and going to SCHOOL, why the heck will they be gambling at casinos??? grrrrr

  • delacarpa

I remember MJ posting some Kuala Lumpur fan pictures of Kris being there. This has got to be what Kris and Adam live for on the road. Getting to mingle with their fans and also must be pretty cool being the idol from the United States.

Sorry couldn’t find the pictures though.

  • Trina

Ke$ha played the theater at the Borgata the other night with a very good turnout..does she not have young Top 40 fans? I’ve been where Jordin performed and any age can walk right in. Its the actual casino section that is sectioned off for those under 18.

  • Mary102

Oh, and after reading the details on Gaga’s AI performance, idk, we’ll see it when it comes up, but it just seems a bit needlessly OTT for the AI stage. I mean it’s one thing to do this stuff for the Grammys or VMAs, etc, but with the AI stage, is that really necessary? IDK, of course, I’m holding it to Adam’s standard now, and the fact that I thought what he accomplished a few weeks ago was rather brilliant – nowhere near too OTT, but just enough to create a really beautiful, thrilling experience, both visually and aurally, to really enhance the song rather than distract from it.

After all, are gargoyles spouting fire really enhancing Alejandro’s “deep” message? IDK.

  • Judee

I wonder if Ryan Secrest is getting nervous?

Who knows. I’m not sure if he still needs the idol exposure at this point in his career. He’s probably more of a producer and business man than host. I don’t think his goal is to be on-air every minute of his life, his goal is probably to find people who’ll do it for him and he’ll be just producing and collecting money….but who knows what’s his masterplan.

  • Truthiness

ok so the 2nd single will be tougher I guess. So 4-5 adds would be nice?

Wouldn’t it be easier for him, now that he’s had a radio hit single? And someone is singing on it who is part of another radio hit.

And I think it’s great that stations are already spinning it. Yay!

As to it’s pop crossover appeal, that Antebellum song is doing well, and if that song can do it, why not TT?

  • girlygirl

Here’s a YT from Kris’s autograph session at the mall in Kuala Lumpur that gives a decent view of the crowd. As you can see, it was similar in size to the one in Finland for Adam. It’s great to see stuff like this that shows that Adam & Kris are loved outside the US. I know Kris loved meeting his int’l fans and I’m sure Adam is loving it as well.

Gaga is trying to top herself every tim she has these huge national TV performances..and she is doing lots of them and you can easily find them on youtube, so when she’s trying to be original she has no other option than big expensive performance. That’s what people expect from her.
The bar is set very high for her.
It might be better for her to dissapear for a year or so before the next album. You know let the world crave for her a bit. She is really going to be overexposed if she continues just spewing album after album.

  • girlygirl

I read that Lady Gaga’s tour is losing money despite drawing good sized crowds — probably in large part because the extravagent stage production. This is something Adam & his management might need to consider when planning his tour.

  • smeggingnuts

Wow if any of those details of Gaga’s performance are acurate nice to know that “the children” are safe.

I had a thought I know why she may have asked for all that money. Hehehe she needed to try to get above the red line for her tour lol

Yeah, that is exactly my take on it as well. That’s why I actually much prefer how Adam’s been able to present his music. IDK, but I don’t need half a million dollar sets to make a song come to life, and she should realize she doesn’t need that either. The fact that Adam can go from a LASERS!!! show of awesomeness, to a completely barebones stripped down version of any song from his album (not just the slow ones either), is so much more fun for me to follow then to see Gaga trying to top herself with OTT theatrics each time.

She is so creative, I hope she too realizes the value of these smaller shows, but I agree, the expectations are now such for her that she almost has no choice BUT to go completely OTT now.

Luckily, Adam doesn’t have Gaga’s expectations for OTT shows to deal with. FWIW, we’ve been able to get a glimpse of his tour shows with the recent Vancouver, FS shows, and all I’ve got to say is, he can do SOOO much with very little. WLL was about as barebones as you could get, yet that was absolutely AMAZING!

I have a feeling Adam appreciates (and will highlight), both sides of him – the flashy OTT side (which, even that, doesn’t need to go as far as Gaga), and the more intimate, acoustic moments, which he really seems to enjoy as well.

To me, you don’t need OTT effects to put on a good show. If Adam has strict budget constraints (betting he does), then, with his creativity, musicality and instincts, I think he can make some real magic happen WITHOUT relying on too many “distractions”.

I found this in an article on HDD…

“Speaking of recently anointed pop princesses, Lady Gaga’s team, spearheaded by manager Troy Carter and heavyweight attorney Gary Stiffelman, is deep into the process of renegotiating the contract of the breakout artist with Interscope, causing wonderers to wonder how her dramatically increased leverage—having sold 3.25m on The Fame and another million on The Fame Monster, plus a mind-boggling 15.5m singles—might impact the 360 aspects of her current deal, which has been a major windfall for Interscope. Both sides are hoping to have a new agreement in place well before the anticipated fall release of her next LP. While some naysayers insist that Gaga is a flash in the pan, industry veterans point out that the same dismissive remarks were made about Madonna in the early days of her career, which has now spanned a quarter century. What the two have in common is a rarefied gift for concocting slam-dunk dance/pop smashes…”

The reason Gaga isn’t raking in the money from tours (and that was a rumor from several months ago) is because she chooses to put most of her profits back into her tour. I read where her tour is a gift to fans and not a way for her to make money. Right now- it is paying off. She can sell out huge arenas for multi-night shows around the world. She isn’t having any trouble selling her singles and albums in every corner of the world.

I don’t think Adam’s show is going to be ANYWHERE close to Lady Gaga’s! Have you seen pics or videos from her show? Comparing Gaga’s and Adam’s shows would be like comparing Michael Jackson’s shows with Daughtry’s. Having 4 dancers and some lasers and fog is not even in the same universe as a Lady Gaga show!

See- Lady Gaga is only popular because of a few BSC fans that participate in multi-cd or multi-singles buying practices! LOL

Looks like all artists need fans who work behind the scenes to keep their name in the media. I wonder how well Gaga’s singles from this point will sell on iTunes? Shouldn’t most people who are interested in her type of music own her cd by now? Most people don’t go and buy the single when they already own the cd!

Of course it will! I think stations will be more than willing to spin the Truth because LLWD had such a long sustained time at the top of the charts.

That’s the reason no one releases their next single until the first peaks; the higher the first goes; the more readily they will play the second.

From another fan’s perspective- I don’t know why Kris fans were/are so full of angst (trying to invoke Murphy’s Law??) about the Truth. Several Danny fans have said its their favorite off the album.

I saw this too, they’re just trying to push Alejandro into top 10 on i-tunes, because it’s sitting between 11-15 for 2 or 3 weeks now. The thing is Kesha is kicking her ass big time (and already couple months now actually). Her singles are always in top 10 (at least 1 of them) and she’s able to get there (and stay there) with much less airplay and without bombastic videos. She basically just releases a single and within days it is in top 10. And Telephone definitely underperformed on i-tunes. So as far as single downloads, i-tunes are Kesha’s b*tch lately.

  • certain1

I read where her tour is a gift to fans and not a way for her to make money. Right now- it is paying off.

I guess I’m not seeing it as much of a gift when tickets range from 50-175.00. I am sure those that pay the price are more than happy too, but this characterizing it as a gift does fly. Free=gift, 175.00=better be a darn good show :)

  • ross

From another fan’s perspective- I don’t know why Kris fans were/are so full of angst (trying to invoke Murphy’s Law??) about the Truth. Several Danny fans have said its their favorite off the album.

I think because a lot of fans had other favorites for the next single. Also, some preferred Kris’s original version to the Kris-with-Pat version. Some wanted a song Kris co-wrote to be the second single, since he co-wrote all but three songs on the album. Some people felt other songs represented who Kris is as an artist more clearly. Etc.

Many Kris fans also say it’s their favorite, it just wasn’t the universal favorite. I think angst has now been replaced by acceptance. The thing is, people angst in general about second singles because they know how crucial they are.

This is a good point. Yes. My feeling though is that it’s an undeniable earworm in its own way, since I really can’t stop humming it after I listen to it. And it wasn’t my favorite for a single. I actually now think it’s a great choice.

  • Judee

And this is why Perez started the “hate-Kesha” campaigne.

I don’t see into his brain and i don’t care enough to speculate about him. He is a douche, period.
Kesha is not good enough live, BUT i think she will get there. If i’d go back 3 years and check Rihanna, she was a complete train-wreck live. She still is not awesome, but she improved enormously.
And Kesha is hardly the only one who has this problem. I mean Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are TERRIBLE live. I was kinda surprised that Taylor got ripped apart after Grammys because it wasn’t like she had a night off, she is like this every time. She sounds like sh*t all the time, the Grammy performance was not worse than the previous ones. She sang a year earlier duet with Miley and was much much worse than her too. But she probably got the heat because she won so many awards and also 1 over Gaga this year. i don’t know…
So i think Kesha gets much more hate because people think she’s not a good role model (which i don’t understand) and she’s trashy (i disagree with that) than because of her live performances, but who knows. it’s probably combo.

Well I’m glad there seems to be happier feelings among Kris fans about TT now. Cool. And while I don’t find it as earwormy as LLWD, or actually at all, but that’s just me. If others are finding that way, great! I remain pretty optimistic about it’s chances on HAC, and even pop. I suspect it might not chart as high as LLWD in pop, maybe not even HAC, but I think it has a good shot for well overall. My fingers are crossed.

ETA: Adam? this time you have chosen wisely. I dig the cover. MUCH better choice than that other thing. And I like how the title looks at the bottom, and everything. Good job.

  • girlygirl

Most of the angst from Kris fans about the new version of TT had to do with the fact that many of us didn’t think there was any need to add Pat Monahan vocals to the song at all — Kris performs the song beautifully on his own. And then they gave the bridge — the most emotional part of the song — to Pat. Grr…

But water under the bridge and all that, blahblahblah. Kris fans will support him no matter what and I think that the new version will do fine on Hot AC — I’m hoping it will cross over to Top 40, but even if it does I doubt it’ll have the same level of success in that fomat as LLWD has. Still, if it can chart high on Hot AC/AC and sell well, it’s all good

Speaking of TT, I saw this on twitter, if anyone is interested in hearing it on the radio…

I suspect they are loved by the under 16 crowd (maybe 20). People who did not hear these songs on the radio or played by their parents growing up.

I’m 21, and I have downloaded all of the Glee songs and listen to them all the time. “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Somebody to Love” are two of my favorites, and more recently I love “Gives You Hell” and “Like a Prayer.” These are all songs I knew and had on my iPod before I heard them on Glee. I just really like these versions. I’m obsessed with Lea Michele’s voice, and I really like Cory Monteith and Amber Riley’s voices too. They’ve got some amazing singers on the show and I love their versions of these songs. To each their own I guess.

  • koshka

I never get the whole role model thing. People should instead be wondering why kids are using celebrities, rather than community leaders, parents, relatives or teachers as true role models. Personally, I suspect Kesha has much more to her that we have yet to see. I bet she will come out with a solid second album with more maturity behind it.

Saga: I don’t think it’s about if The Truth is a good song or not but more if it is good song for radio. Not always the same thing and can be quite tough to understand if one doesn’t listen top top40 radio.

It certainly is a good fit for HAC and AC, and I think it is very compatible with many CHR/Top 40 station playlists. Should certainly get some Top 40 adds in the South.

girlygirl: Most of the angst from Kris fans about the new version of TT had to do with the fact that many of us didn’t think there was any need to add Pat Monahan vocals to the song at all — Kris performs the song beautifully on his own. And then they gave the bridge — the most emotional part of the song — to Pat. Grr…

I actually thought the TT was a fine choice until the released the “Radio edit” and added Pat Monahan’s vocals and name. MJ express my sentiment on this perfectly:

Fans aren’t really happy with this latest development. The general consensus seems to be that the original version of “The Truth” stands just fine on it’s own.

Choosing to re-mix it with Monahan on vocals (he sings the bridge and some harmonies) is probably Jive hedging their bets. Train’s song, “Hey Soul Sister” is really popular right now, so Jive must believe Monahan’s star power will help the song chart.

But it’s not like Kris needed any help with his first single, “Live Like We’re Dying, which has sold over 1M copies, and was at Top 10 Top 40 hit.

Not sure the new single will help move album units, because it doesn’t appear on the album. But maybe Jive will reissue Kris Allen with the new cut?

I still believe that “Alright With Me” would have been a better single for Kris, but that is water under the bridge now. The single is what the single is. And with Kris + Pat Monahan it seems like a good bet to get a lot of radio airplay.

  • ross

Adam’s cover art is good. The padded background reminded me of a padded cell. I don’t think that’s bad, just what I thought of. I like beefier Adam more than thin Adam, but it’s a cool pose and he looks good.

Ryan has gone on record in interviews as saying that he basically wants to be this generations Merv Griffin or Dick Clark. He wants to produce a LOT, but still be in the public eye as a host/tv personality. His recent weird behavior notwithstanding, he is a really impressive guy with an unbelievable work ethic. I suspect he will drop one or two of his jobs in the near future to focus more on producing.

Hmm..haven’t actually heard TT yet, but (not trying to really compare the two…) I think that it might do a better job on HAC, than Adam’s IIHY will do on pop. If I had to estimate, I’ll say it’ll probably make it anywhere between top 10-20, and IIHY probably peak out as high as Top 40 or maybe 30. Idk I just really really, have a love/hate relationship w/ IIHY. Loved the song when I first heard it, especially the bridge, then went to hating it and even more so when I heard that it was going to be the next single, then now kind of lukewarm on it. I really dislike the first verse, but find myself, despite hating it, singing along to it by the time the second verse comes in. Very infectious, but Idk it might do well, since almost everything that I dislike ends up being a hit on radio, don’t like WWFM nor this song, so what do I know.

  • Judee

I’m 21, and I have downloaded all of the Glee songs and listen to them all the time.

I’m 22 and i don’t like them at all (well most of them). I liked the hello duet. I usually fast-forward the performances when i watch glee. i thought don’t stop believin’ was terrible. i don’t watch Glee for the music, just the characters and story-line. oh i forgot about Mercedes – her voice i love. the cover of beautiful was beautiful:). so i should say i like every 10th song approximately? that’s probably accurate.

  • Marie23

Yeah, I’m 25, and I really don’t care for the Glee songs too much.. Only song I liked was the Somebody to love song and the boys mashup. Cory voices sounds really nasally Lea Michelle sounds kind of shrill, ymmv. I use to like it more when it had less singing, w/ all of this singing, it’s starting to remind me of some bad disney, musicals…

Oh yeah and Mercedes is my favorite female voice too.

  • Judee

The X-tra factor show is really fun. They’re talking to the judges, people panel (selected poeple from audience),they also talk to the music guests or even expert journalists about the contestants and the show. They show backstage tapings, the judges are taking phocalls from the viewers and answerinf their questions. They are talking to their vocal coach and director of all choreography for a bit every week (it is Brian Friedman in the UK). It’s very interactive with the viewers and you get to see the personalities of the contestants, but also of the judges. I love it.You get better idea about the whole process of the show. X-tra factor is airing right after the mainshow and also the elimination show. It’s 1 hour i think. So 2 more hours weekly of reality TV:)

IIHY single cover! I love it!!

Nice one, but I’m not crazy about the fonts

  • Truthiness

Wait, Truthiness, you’ve said countless times that you don’t like LLWD. Is it an earworm you don’t happen to like? (Not being facetious. There are plenty of those, for me. WWFM is one. I don’t love it but I find myself humming it all the time.)

Yeah, it’s a song I don’t like, but acknowledge that it’s kind of earwormy. Like an effective commerical jingle, it’s not necessarily something one is concious of remembering, may not even want to remember it, but you can hum it later. And with some really earwormy, but ack-worthy songs, you can be like ‘why the frack am I singing this crappy song? GET OUT OF MY HEAD! Now!’ and then find yourself humming it later. Or is that just me? I don’t find LLWD that earwormy, thankfully, but I think it has enough of a hook so that it’s memorable and catchy enough.

Thanks girlygirl for putting the smile on my face. I think he was loving being there. What a great reception. Thinking that it will only keep getting better and better for them.

Tracking airplay for The Truth — “this week” (last 7 days)

    KLLC – 17 spins
    WPST – 4
    KMHX – 1
    KMXB – 1
    KQKQ – 1

I guess I misunderstood the whole thing.
I thought that TT is sent to the radio on 5/3, I did not know that the radio can spin it already. In any case, I hope TT will be a success. Should I start listening to KBIG 104.3, girlygirl ?
I don’t know what the connection with radio ads means ?

I need to read the mediabase thing of Kirsten tomorrow, I usually avoid it because it is too depressing reading about Kris stuff.

Do the 17-year-old a favor, let him go home so he can mature and develop his talent, and perhaps have a longer career than some discount Disney teen pop star.

Aaron Kelly, From Tulsa World article. Yes. Yes. and YES!

What else.. Lady Gaga is not worth 250K for a 4 minute eyesore. OKMag is probably lying/misinformed. Well they were wrong about her first appearance on the show, wasn’t 2 yrs ago. It was last year and she sang Poker Face. She was on SYTYCD summer ’08 and sang Just Dance when only about 4 peeps knew who she was. I need a life. 8)

I don’t think Lady Gaga has much to worry about when it comes to Ke$ha. Kesha is not outselling Gaga as far as total singles (Gaga has what 6 or 7, each multi- platinum)or topping the billboard Charts. Gaga is much more respected by media and her peers.
Not sure about the sustainability of either in the biz.

For younger fans, I think Kesha is a lot more digestible and probably cooler. The structure of her songs is easier to get through, I can sing along without yelling or needing to sound like a robot… I own Kesha’s record and looove it. It’s a fun party album, requiring very little brain power. I’ve absolutely hated Gaga’s last two singles and Alejandro sounds like Ace of Base to me. I give her props tho, she’s immensely talented. There’s room for everybody.

Well TikTok will probably become cooler as it was just used for the opening sequence for the Simpsons tonight.

I thought that weird half-animated blue-green thing posted the other day was the cover for IIHY.

IIHY single cover! I love it!!

I wonder where this was taken. It’s funny, I remember David Cook had a photoshoot in front on some similar leather wall thingie before his album came out. I think one was used for some early Declaration Tour posters– anyone know the photo?

Speaking of David’s old photoshoots, David didn’t ever get an iTunes single cover for CBTM, did he? It was just an album track on iTunes, so it had the same cover as the album. Light On and TOML got covers because they came out before the album. What’s the motivation for new iTunes single covers for follow-up singles? I find they do this for pop songs.

  • smeggingnuts

The cover for the single IIHY was shot by Lee Cherry a professional photographer and also co-founder of the Zodiac Show. He is really good this is his photography web site. He has some amazing photos and some of Adam if you scroll down. Though they are old ones
    http://www.leecherry.com/

The photo for the single was shot a few weeks ago.

  • tiger92

Finally for this week there is something of a watershed at Number 39 as Adam Lambert reaches the Top 40 with his single ‘For Your Entertainment’ and in the process becomes only the third American Idol loser to reach the UK charts. The flamboyant and fiercely talented Lambert was the runaway star of the 2009 series of the show, his eventual defeat to Kris Allen going down as something of a surprise. Not for the first time however, it turns out to be the loser of the series who has the last laugh and after going Top 3 back home with his debut album last year, he now makes a bid for UK glory with this title track.

    http://new.uk.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chartwatch/10294/week-ending-may-8th-2010/

JHud and Daughtry are the other two non-winners to reach the UK Top 40. The only AI winners to accomplish getting on the UK charts are Kelly, Jordin and Cook. Adam is in good company!

  • sma11ie

OK, I found the David Cook photo I was thinking of. The leather background thingie looks different from Adam’s.

    Here’s another one:
    http://www.bellyupaspen.com/uploaded_image/file_name/151144/sp_David_cook.gif

    Yeah, different background heh.

  • jpfan

That British Yahoo music site is actually pretty interesting. If you go to the end of the comments about FYE there are some very interesting comments from the blogger about Crystal.

“Meanwhile we watch the current series with bated breath and to see if the extraordinarily talented Crystal Bowersox fulfils her potential and emerges from the show a bone fide superstar.”

Also LA’s I Need You know has entered the top 30 on the British charts but the blogger think the song won’t go any higher. Oh and Glee is a big hit over there just like here in the states.

  • Judee

JHud and Daughtry are the other two non-winners to reach the UK Top 40. The only AI winners to accomplish this are Kelly, Jordin and Cook.

Cook and Daughtry are almost completely unknown in the UK. Only the girls did well there so far.

  • lorismile

LLWD remix is playing on Open House Party :-)

  • suenigma

“Judee: Cook and Daughtry are almost completely unknown in the UK. Only the girls did well there so far.”

That may well be, but Cook still reached UK Top 40 without his album even being released there, and without any promotion whatsoever, so I would say that is still a pretty impressive accomplishment. I don’t know if Daughtry’s album was released or promoted in the UK.

It would be interesting to see if Adam would have reached UK Top 40 without all of the hype/promo. I suspect he probably would have, but it doesn’t lesson what the other idols have done with less resources.

  • lorismile

I thought that weird half-animated blue-green thing posted the other day was the cover for IIHY.

I think that was just a fan made cover. Adam didn’t have a new cover for WWFM (at least I don’t remember one). It was just his CD cover. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

That background from David’s shoot is very similar. :-D However I’m sure they aren’t the only 2 to use that type of background.

  • smeggingnuts

hey Pam not sure your still around but do you have the numbers for the Top 3 of HAC, I’m curious how close/far away WWFM is to them. Thanks for your time.

  • lorismile

That may well be, but Cook still reached UK Top 40 without his album even being released there

I don’t think he hit the top 40. Didn’t the article say he snuck in the top #75? That isn’t top 40. I’m not sure where he finally charted but I think if he was top 40 they would have mentioned it. Still pretty impressive for someone with no promo there. I wonder why they never launched him over there.

Adam’s been charting for about 6 weeks now on the UK official chart, from his import album. I’m sure alot of that is from his video being played there.

Smeggs: here’s a link for the HAC chart. He’s quite a few spins away. Good news is he has a big bullet and alot of the songs below him are losing spins so he should be there for a while, hopefully. http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insideradio/charts.asp?format=3&showyear=y&dpt=n

  • smeggingnuts

Thanks lorismile I’m glad he dosnt have anyone hot on his heels sucks he’s so many spins from #1 oh well so much for #1 on HAC

  • koshka

Wait what? Kris was just in kuala lumpur? When did this happen?

  • Truthiness

I thought that weird half-animated blue-green thing posted the other day was the cover for IIHY.

Whatever, this cover is actually very good (compared to that blue-green thing and his bizarro album cover). Well done!

I know, I did too and was also, and on record with agreeing that it was not of goodness. I am so glad this is the cover of the single. sigh. Still wish the cover of the album was in line with the single cover. Cherry is a good photographer…have him do the next cover, is what I say.

  • suenigma

I don’t think he hit the top 40. Didn’t the article say he snuck in the top #75?

Yeah, you’re right, my mistake, I quoted the previous poster not the article. But my point still stands.

  • ross

    LLWD won this poll yesterday

    Yay for LLWD!

  • HappyDaisy

…only the third American Idol loser to reach the UK charts

Funny wording! Adam’s an American Idol Runner-Up, not a loser. That IIHY single cover is way cool. Should have done something like that for the album.

  • girlygirl

Reminder for anyone who wants to hear Kris’s new single on the radio. Alice 105.9 in Denver is supposd to be playing it on its Sunday School” show that starts at 10 pm Mountain time and runs for an hour. That’s about 5 minutes from now.

Here’s link is anyone wants to listen

For any Matt Giraud fans (or Manny fans)

Matt attended Danny’s show in Nashville Friday night. Hopefully they had time to hang after the show:

    http://yfrog.com/jomannyandktgj

It would be fabulous if the “Danny Gokey and friends” cruise wound up including Matt as one of the “Friends” :)

  • jpfan

Thanks for that Alice link. I’m listening to TT right now. I’m not a huge Kris fan but this song sounds great on the radio. Of course not all terrific songs do well but this one really sounds like a big HAC hit to me.

  • tiger92

Cook and Daughtry are almost completely unknown in the UK. Only the girls did well there so far

Daughtry did have an official release of his 1st album. Its peak position was #13 on the UK album chart. I guess his last album hasn’t officially been released there yet.

  • BeckyMD

I think TT will be a big HAC hit too and very likely will crossover to Pop. It’s more catchy than many current HAC songs.

  • dv

Another Kelly song leaked. That makes it 3 demos leaked.
Kelly must be seriously pissed off.

  • Indigobunting

Another pic of Matt and Danny:

    http://twitpic.com/1kim11

    Boys will be boys, lol.

  • springboard

I also think that TT will be a smash hit on HAC, big enough to give it momentum on POP.
