It’s Time for a Second Save – VFTW Endorses Michael Lynche

So now that we’re in the top 5, the VFTW pick has come down to Michael Lynche and Aaron Kelly. The choice went back and forth, but after some thought, it’s obvious who we should help save: Michael. He’s arrogant, he’s cheesy, and he’s only around because he’s riding a wave of sympathy from almost being eliminated. Most people would’ve loved to have seen home go home in 9th place like he was supposed to, so if he even lasts one more week, fans won’t be too happy. People seem to really hate this guy, which just means he’s perfect to plaster up on our site. The hate for Aaron isn’t even half as big, so that’s no fun just yet. And whereas Aaron is trying to improve, Mike just does the same thing every week without listening to the judges at all.

Vote For the Worst

Final Idol Meter results — and notes on votes

Also, a couple of notes about votes: Wednesday, Ryan Seacrest offered viewers this season’s all-too-rare treat of a vote total — 33 million. A look back to last year suggests why the Idol producers might be inclined to keep such information to themselves: During the same week in Season 8, the number of votes reached 47 million — which Ryan called “the highest of the season” at the time. But the voting totals aren’t going up this season — they seem to be hovering in that low-30s region — and the decline from the same week last year is 30 percent. It looks like voters are disengaging from Idol faster than viewers, but, if people can’t be bothered to vote, how much longer will it be before they decide to abandon the show altogether?

American Idol in 60 Seconds

This week, the top six had to sing Shania Twain songs, but the contestants were completely upstaged by Shania herself, who displayed a perfect blend of characteristics from all the “Idol” judges. She had Simon’s sharp insight, Paula’s sweetness, Kara’s songwriting chops and Randy’s passion for peculiar cardigans. Plus, it was so nice of Shania to bring along the woman who takes care of her horses. (Seriously, who was that expressive lady sitting next to Shania all night? She should sit next to every guest mentor from now on.)

‘American Idol’ and those (maddening!) overruns into ‘Glee’: How and why they happen

Over-runs are not an out-of-the-ordinary occurrence when you’re dealing with a live show. The network’s not commenting, but a source close to Idol said that while it’s always the producers’ aim to end the show on time, unpredictable elements wreak havoc on the show’s clock (not to mention your DVRs) year after year. That said, these time slot overruns can do wonders for the network’s ratings. Adding more minutes to an already highly-rated show will improve the network’s overall performance for the night — to say nothing of how it encourages viewers to stay on Fox to watch Glee rather than change channels to catch the already-in-progress V on ABC or Parenthood on NBC. On April 20, Idol ran over three minutes into Glee, which finished the night as the second most-watched show.

Sons Of Sylvia: From ‘Next Great American Band’ To ‘American Idol’

Shakira, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum and Sons of Sylvia — wait, who? Millions of Americans could be forgiven if they weren’t familiar with the handsome brotherly trio who performed on Wednesday night’s (April 28) “American Idol” elimination show, where Siobhan Magnus got the boot.

But if you’ve been paying attention for the past three years, you might just recognize brothers Ashley, Austin and Adam Clark. They’ve been opening for good pal Carrie Underwood — who helicoptered in from her tour just to introduce them on “Idol” — on her current tour, and they played backup in her touring band right after she won season four. They were also the winners of the first and only season of “Idol” spinoff “The Next Great American Band, ” back when they were known as the Clark Brothers.

‘American Idol’: Lada Gaga’s S&M wonderland of ‘Alejandro’

It has already been announced that Lady Gaga is gracing the “American Idol” stage on May 5, but Wednesday, April 28 she pre-recorded her performance for the lucky studio audience who stuck around after the results show.

It took over an hour to set up her stage because the crew had to bring in a giant metal angel that had fire sprouting out of the wings, not one but two giant black spiky trees and several park benches made out of giant bloody razor blades. There were also eight or so male backup dancers wearing nothing but black spandex shorts.

American idyll

A great story? A great talent? To understand the phenomenon that is, or will be, Crystal Bowersox, to trace the roots of this 24-year-old Midwest singer — from microscopic rural patches of Northwest Ohio to Chicago train platforms where she busked for tips, from the dingiest old-man dives to the glare of “American Idol, ” where she now stands a real shot at winning, or at least walking away a freshly minted star — to assemble the pieces that come together in a bluesy growl that transcends pop novelty altogether, to understand why an everyday, small-town bar musician with few prospects has most of this depressed area rallying around her: Begin at Papa’s Tavern.

Mt. Prospect’s DeWyze a hot prospect on ‘American Idol’

A few tattoos grace the arms of “American Idol” finalist Lee DeWyze.

But the one closest to his heart features lyrics from the Cat Stevens coming-of-age ballad “Father and Son.”

Six weeks ago his former teacher Amy Silverman began organizing “Idol” viewing parties at the Fox & Hound Smoke House & Tavern in Arlington Heights. This week his father came out to the tavern for the first time to watch his son on national television.

American Idol winner comes to the Springs for a good cause

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO — Six-year-old Lexi Davenport was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007. She was in remission for two years before just recently finding out her cancer is back.

“We thought she was cured and we thought that she was out of the woods. A few weeks ago she relapsed and it came back pretty aggressive and we were told we need a bone marrow transplant for her, ” said Eric Davenport, Lexi’s dad.

But during American Idol winner Kris Allen’s performance, Lexi was given the chance to not think about her cancer. Listening to his live performance with her friends she says was “cool” and is why Kris Allen says he wishes he could do this every day.

“To make a kid smile and glowing, especially kids who are going through hard stuff, it means a lot.Iit’s a really cool thing to do that just by showing up, ” said Allen.

‘Twilight’ infatuation or obsession? Carmen Rasmusen Herbert

Now I have to admit, while reading these novels I was very pro-Edward. I loved the cheesy “I’d die for you” attitude that Bella and Edward had. My husband would frequently look over at me (with my nose deep in the book unintentionally sighing intermittently, totally engrossed) and just roll his eyes and say, “You’re wishing I were more like Edward, aren’t you?” Sigh again.

What is it about young adult fiction that sucks me in every time? What was so crazy about the whole Twilight phenomenon was that it was a hot seller not only for young tween and teen girls, but married moms like me, too! Why is that? Perhaps there’s a little bit of Bella in all of us – craving adventure, danger, and fairy-tale romance.

Underwood thrills Civic Center crowd

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A farm girl who had never even flown in an airplane before she was crowned the American Idol during the show’s fourth season, Carrie Underwood literally flew all over the Charleston Civic Center Wednesday.

Even amidst the multi-million dollar stage props and elaborate costuming, Underwood left no doubt that the show’s main attraction really was her priceless voice, truly worthy of the countless awards and accolades she’s garnered in her brief but gangbuster career since Simon Cowell told her “Welcome to Hollywood” in 2005.
