Tonightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a big night for Season 7à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s little David
Posted by Bob Payne

When we first saw David Archuleta in January 2008, we heard his story of vocal paralysis and then saw him sail through his audition with a soulful version of John Mayerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Waiting on The World to Change.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Within weeks he had staked a claim as the one to beat in Season 7, especially after his performance of John Lennonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Imagine,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ a true à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“momentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ if there every was one on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idol.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Although he came up short in the final night of voting, the 17-year-old (now 18) from Salt Lake City, has been on a roll ever since. His eponymous debut album à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' released in November à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' has now sold almost 700,000 copies and spawned the addictive radio hit, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Crush.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Yeahà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦and you can do a cellcast so we can all listen in!!!!

:lol_wp: :clap_tb:

Does anyone know if JIVE changed the date on AI or AI changed the date? JIVE may have changed it because it works better for both Jordan and David.

Has anyone seen this? It is hilarious!

They might be seeing what kind of reaction TMH gets, but that doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really seem like a good gauge, because, it is the AI audience and his fans.

Isn't that what happened with the last single? It was initially Touch My hand and then the fans revolted or something cataclysmic happened that told them that the fans liked ALTNOY more. But then it was like radio silence. For whatever reason -- conspiracy, song suckage, change of radio landscape -- nobody wanted to play it.

What with Kara sleeping on Paulaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s couch and now taking her job, Paula must be feeling like Bette Davis in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“All About Eveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

My favorite movie of all time! I used the same analogy discussing Idol with my husband last night, Kirsten!

Kara DioGuardi: I Quit!

Interesting. However, I've learned not to trust any tabloid citing an unamed source or "insiders". Still, I can see how she would be angry. Even if she's not the best judge ever, Simon giving her the finger - especially on TV - was really rude. She's a person and she deserves some respect.

Well maybe, but Jive would have known by now that they wanted the next single to be TMH. If the appearance date was later, he would have sung TMH. With the date pushed up, they still would have announced he would be singing TMH (in anticipation that it was the next single), not ALTNOY. To me the confusing part is that he was going to sing ALTNOY and then within one week, it all changed. Weird. They might be seeing what kind of reaction TMH gets, but that doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really seem like a good gauge, because, it is the AI audience and his fans. What does well with them does not necessarily mean it will be popular with people outside the fan base or on radio. Who knows!

There are different types of singles. It could be a promotional single only--played at appearances and such to promote the summer tour with Demi. It's a strange song--lyrics that are aimed squarely at the teenage fan, but a melody that is almost coldplay-esque (they're more pop-friendly stuff). It works well with the younger crowd, nonetheless. Perfect to promote a tour that is attempting to reach the same audience that is going gaga over the Jonas Brothers.

If it's a promotional single, it probably won't be released to CHR/Top 40 at all. Radio Disney might pick it up (actually, people can request TMH on Radio Disney right now--it's on their list). David may perform it on tour stops at radio stations during the tour, and that's it. It's just something new, young and fun; not meant to be anything more than that. If that's the route Jive takes.

I suspect it'll sell pretty well. The Idol audience and David's fan base have diverged over the last year, so I suspect a lot of Idol viewers haven't paid him much mind since the end of the show last year, nor has the show done anything thus far to remind viewers that he's had a post-Idol career. The benefit of iTunes is that even if you think the song is too young for you (lyrically speaking), if you like it you can still download it in the comfort of your own home.

Kara DioGuardi: I Quit!

On last night's American Idol live broadcast, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson did very little to hide their disdain of new judge Kara DioGuardi.

When Kara interrupted Randy's critique of Kris Allen's performance, the irritated dawg shot a look down the table to Simon, who not-so-subtly proceeded to flip his middle finger (while pretending to scratch his ear) at Kara while she spoke

LOL JudyOhio - I will tread lightly.

Do you think the bumping of the date DA was to appear on AI caused to Jive to scramble, thus all the confusion?

I know nothing of David's career, Jive or their strategy. But, if I had to guess, I would say that someone made the wise decision to not waste a 20 Million people opportunity on a single that wasn't really going anywhere.

Seems like a smart marketing move to me. You can't waste your biggest promo opportunity on a song that the public hasn't embraced. You've got to try something else.

And honestly, I don't much like this song. But, from the looks of that video, David's fans do. I'd rather do this show with a song that has historically come across well in concert. I think that's your best bet.

Also - I'll point out that my 5 year old is quite fond of Archie (from the build a bear thing). I could totally wind up downloading this song if she can stay awake long enough for this performance. That should be sufficient revenge for my having made fun of it LOL.
