‘American Idol’ Voters ‘Were Wrong’ On Jessica Sanchez, Steven Tyler Says – So what went wrong? “Well, I think [America] thought she was safe,” explained Jackson, who stopped by backstage to speak on Sanchez’s behalf. “I think they thought she was safe, I’m sure, and I think they thought Joshua was safe because those two alone, with Colton and some of the others, have been the most consistent. So, you know, yeah, I think they just forgot.” Probably the most inconsistent of the final seven who was a sure bet to be the one sent packing last night was Hollie Cavanagh. Despite her strong vocals, her nerves and stiff stage presence have led the little English southern belle to the bottom three for weeks now. But after her less-than-perfect performance of “Perfect” Wednesday night, she dodged the bullet completely this time around thanks to her devoted fans. – See the Video at MTV

Idol Hangover’ Hot Topics: Jessica Sanchez’s Save, Dixon-Durbin Hair Wars, Steven Tyler’s Out There Style – On this week’s episode of Idol Hangover, THR music editor Shirley Halperin and special correspondent Didi Benami run down five hot topics to emerge from the Top 7 show. Among them: Jessica Sanchez’s surprising elimination and subsequent save, Steven Tyler’s out there style choices and why Hollie Cavanagh is constantly being bullied by the judges. – See the video at The Hollywood Reporter

Carrie Underwood Is Dreading Mike Fisher’s ‘Playoff Beard’ – Carrie Underwood is very excited that husband Mike Fisher’s hockey team is in the NHL playoffs, but she’s not quite as enthused about the rituals that come along with the games. “I’m not looking forward to the playoff beard,” she joked to PEOPLE while promoting Olay’s new “Beauty by Example” campaign in New York on Thursday. “[The players] all grow out their facial hair during the playoffs.” – Read more at People

Simon Cowell calls into the Ryan Seacrest Show

Hijinks ensue.

Rachel Crow settles into Nickelodeon gig – “Tired is not really in my vocabulary anymore,” said Rachel Crow. On a recent weekday, the Colorado native is seated in a chair inside the Nickelodeon offices in Santa Monica, her feet barely touching the floor. She’s every bit the bubbly personality that she exuded during her “X Factor” debut as she speaks with aplomb about her new endeavors. She’s almost a little too poised (as you may surmise from her answers) for her age, now 14. “It’s amazing to think that a small town girl like me can find themselves on Nickelodeon,” she said. – Read more at the LA Times

Is Holliepops for real? It’s probably the funniest fan name I’ve heard. Although way less threatening than the Haliens.  (praying that most of the Holliepops if they exist are little girls.;0) In all honesty, I do like Hollie but Holliepop…what can I say.

The Hollipops? lol…how cute. I know that Colton’s fans are called “The Messengers”, I don’t know why and Skylar calls her fans “the Skoutlaws”.

So what are the other fan names?

Tripp, you might want to fix this entry :)

     WOW THANKS. I love them.

  • BonnieDee

Skylar’s fans call themselves Skoutlaws because Skylar calls herself an Outlaw.  I guess she doesn’t know who the Outlaws are in Country music and you can’t just call yourself that, but whatever.

Ah, here’s the actual review from Scotty’s concert…from all accounts, he did great:)

Oh, Lauren’s new do is darling. Good choice. She is a really pretty girl.

” I’m with the camp that Hollie didn’t deserve being thrown under the bus
week after week to make Jessica look good. Out of the 2 of them Hollie
actually has a more accessible personality. The nerves does get the best
of her, but that’s also the thing that makes her more relatable.”

But do we really buy *music* made by people who aren’t in control of their nerves and are thus relatable? …. Do we buy tickets to concerts because the performers are like this? I don’t think so.

This is one of those places where the supposed aim of the show — find top-quality professional musicians — is increasingly at odds with its being a reality-tv show, it seems to me. On tv, it seems we like to vote for people we relate to, and as power-voting becomes the mode, it’s the relatability that pretty clearly drives it, it seems to me. But when it comes to music buying … Well, I just don’t believe that relatability plays much of a role in people’s becoming successful musical performers.

We buy that first album from the wonderful relatable person we love — but not a lot of non-Idol viewers do, most of the time. And by the time the second albums comes out, we’re back to buying music from people who are actual music stars and came up the usual way, while we’re back to finding some new person relatable on tv. It’s just an unavoidable dilemma for this kind of show, I guess. But it’s definitely a tension.

Thanks tripp for posting the videos from Kris’ show at LITV.  Kris was amazing as usual!

Steven’s attitude towards Hollie was evident, not so much in his words but his attitude was there.

Maybe he doesn’t like Hollie’s style of singing or feel she is not doing a good job. Last year, he was blasted for having no opinion, so this year he is stating an opinion. Should he just return to saying that everything is “beautiful”? Or is it only necessary for him to just stop saying negative things about Hollie?

Here is a transcript of what he said:
“I got a say…um…You know it’s not about being perfect. I’m not sure if you were…I am sure. It wasn’t perfect tonight for me. It kind of layed there a little bit for me. Compared to how you usually sing. But you look good girl.”

Hardly strikes me as overly harsh. Seems to me that he felt that she had sung the notes, but not infused the song with enough life. He’s not the only one with that opinion and it’s something she can change. Sometimes, getting critiqued can lead to better performances. It’s clear from Steven’s own performances, he tries to put a lot of life into his performances, so it is probably something he values.

Steven doesn’t know what he’s talking about half the time.  I think he’s losing it as far as mentality!!

I think it’s a cute fan name. Who wouldn’t want a name that constantly makes you think of candy? lol I’m not super invested this year, but I’m still a Hollie fan who exists and can vote and I hate to break it to you, but I’m not a little girl. I’m an older one who just so happens to be in the same age group as Siobhan, Haley, Phillip, and Archie.

It’s always fun seeing the names that fans(or the Idols themselves)come up with. It’s quite impressive what some people can do creatively with an Idols name. I have yet to come up with a fan base name for any of my faves. Silly things like that are a lot harder than they look when you really think about them.

I remember when Haley’s fanbase was almost called the lions,(because of her growl)and I’m embarrassed to admit that I don’t know where the name Haliens originated from, but it’s definitely a much better name than lions. I clearly was absent from the internet the day the fan base was named. lol

Indeed, Steven’s comments were not  overly harsh towards Hollie, but those words coming from someone who hardy criticized last year and lots of “beautiful”s said for many idols, were more evident than JLo’s and Randy’s criticisms combined.

Steven doesn’t know what he’s talking about half the time.  I think he’s losing it as far as mentality!!

Yes, he’s lost in the wave of the show, he knows some details about AI-show past and present from some papers maybe sent to him to have an idea about and memorizing might not be his best virtue, but I think he gets well and feels from his “guts” the idea of the idol-contestants as future-artists. And as an artist himself whose “pitch perfect voice” was not his best quality but the star power(and good music), he’s looking for both here in the show, not only for the voice. I think Hollie is not in his standards of “it’s OK the voice to be relatively good but with x2 star power(charisma) you’re a relevant artist”. Hollie has a good voice and an interesting tone and I consider her the “Amy Adams” kind of, of the group, easy, childish, innocent not really what Steven I think is looking for, strong, powerful, different like he sees in P2 and Colton for example or even in Elise.

Pia’s elimination and Jessica landing in the B3 is largely the judges’ fault.  They waste a save on Casey Abrams, and this year they shamelessly bludgeon Hollie while claiming that Jessica is the best singer in America.  Really, Randy?  The BEST singer in America?  Not by a long shot.

  • http://twitter.com/ZarkeMulgore Zarke

Self indulgence is epitomized by Phil….”I am who I am and I want what I want…I don’t care what anybody says..” > Isn’t that the definition of self-indulgent? But Phil is lauded for it…..While Jessica listens to her mentors…but is described as self indulgent….wow gotta go back to my dictionary….amazing double standard…..

  • BonnieDee

Like I said, it wasn’t his words, it was his attitude and the dismissive way he talked to her that fired people up.  Everyone on the net was intent on saving her and they did.  Case Closed.

  • Anonymous

Well, clearly she can ;)  Because she did.

Go Skylar!  I think she’s adorable, and I have to say that I do NOT like country for the most part.  But she’s definitely a star.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

Sorry, but nothing makes my blood boil more than hearing someone say that the judges wasted a save on Casey. No, they didn’t.

Ten years from now, Casey will be a much better known musician than Pia. I don’t dislike Pia, but Casey is crazy talented, he sang a dumb song that week, and he’d been having major health issues. Saving him was the most sensible thing they could have done.

Pia’s going out the next week was because peopel didn’t vote for her.  And they didn’t vote for her because there was a disconnect, which became obvious with her first single and on the tour. She simply doesn’t have the star factor that appeals to the masses. Casey got way more audience love than Pia on tour.

Without Casey on Idol from weeks 10 to 6, think what would have been missing. Plus I really doubt if Haley would have made it to 3rd place without her duets with Casey.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

Yeah, if people want a girl to win, my money would be on Skylar.

I agree on Casey Abrams myself, I think that guy is crazy talented.  A couple of friends of mine who watch Idol every year just for entertainment and have never bought any of the Idol’s music before are waiting for his CD to come out.  They keep asking me if I know when he has a CD coming out because they don’t follow any of this stuff and they know I do.
