Wow, that’s awesome news! Thanks for sharing… Jason was one of my favorites last year. It looks like he’s working with some big shots. I really think he has a shot to do really well especially with label support.

What’s the other news Kara spilled?

It’s not definite. On April Fools, someone on TWOP claimed they heard Kara on Sirius Radio OutQ (on her friend Larry Flick’s show) say that she was working with Jason and that he was signed with Atlantic Records. Problem was nobody else heard it and it was April Fools so it was taken with a grain of salt. That and Jason nor a label has announced anything yet, so if she did say it she probably wasn’t supposed to as yet.

Granted she does call into that radio show regularly and the original rumors were that Jason was negotiating with Atlantic. So this little vid of him with Kara certainly makes it seem legit that it probably happened.

There are vids of Jason from Idol Tonight on YouTube, but there wasn’t any performance. It was just him talking about Idol with Kim and Justin. He was only on for the first half of the show or so.

Haha, I had NO IDEA who Frankie Avalon and was so confused by the cheesy old guy getting a standing O. And then on the same show, you have Flo Rida performing with his… “harem”. Crazy show.

Wow, congrats to Jason! There’s definitely a place for him on the current market, and I’ll buy if he comes out with great songs. Loved when he did Hallelujah and Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

What? Sarver’s signed a record deal already? He says in the article that he’ll be back in LA soon to start working on it. That means either 19 signed him, or he asked to be released from his Idol contract early and they agreed, right? I’m kind of disgusted that he has a deal already, yet Brooke and Jason weren’t signed. His album will probably be called “The Fifth Most Dangerous Job in the World”.

I had no idea who Frankie Avalon was either although I think I heard that song in a movie once. His appearance was so random.

I was surprised too. I thought “who is that guy and what is he doing on the stage?”

At least the Jason news is finally official! Good for him. It would explain why he’s seemed all extra happy lately.

Frankie Avalon played ‘Teen Angel’ in the movie Grease.

So why was Frankie on American Idol?

Yay, Jason! Hope this is all official. Also, congrats to Michael Sarver if he really signed a deal of some sort. I’m one of the few who loves his recorded vocals, and apparently, he has quite a truckload of songs he’s written, maybe someone thought they showed promise.

Congratulations to Jason. Atlantic Records – that’s a good fit for him. Carolina Liar and Gnarls Barkley are with Atlantic, no? Maybe he’ll put “Crazy” on his album. It’s nice to see AI7 peeps do well.

Continuity doesn’t seem to be a goal on this year’s Idol. Nor does keeping track of time/overruns. Or any production values whatsoever, really.

I guess you have to be of a “certain age” to recognize Frankie Avalon! While his appearance was certainly a bit random, I thought it was pretty cool. He looks pretty darn good for someone who is almost 70!

I love that former Idol contestants are performing every week. It’s what the show is all about, after all. But the inclusion of these pop acts is disjointed at best. I don’t really see this adds any value whatsoever. But I suppose it’s filler, and I’d rather see someone perform that be subjected to those stupid viewer question segments they did last year.

Gotta fill an hour somehow! How I long for the days of a 30-minute results show.

Since I’m way older than most of you, I will tell you who Frankie Avalon is. He was the heartthrob of the late 50′s and early 60′s. He sold tons of records and was in the movies. He and Annette Funicello (an original mouseketeer) made 6 or 7 Beach Party movies which were wildly popular. I read he had 31 top hits between 1958 and 1962. He was mobbed by screaming fangirls, yes they existed back then too.( He was kind of like Cook and Archuleta are today) but his fame lasted thru part of the late 50′s thru the 60′s. Since then he has only appeared occasionally in film and on TV. Not surprising many didn’t know who he is, but many of us old timers do and were surprised and happy to see him.

MJ has it in the Headlines with the title, “Michael Sarver Returns to His Roots”. It quotes Sarver saying it directly.

The article says Sarver’s signed a deal, but he just says he’s supposed to start working on his album in two weeks. Hmmm. He could be working on his own demo type stuff or TPTB signed him. I don’t think he could have a deal outside of 19E yet. If TPTB signed him, are they going to force him into a country box? Not sure what to believe.

Yeah, something’s not right. He can’t sign a deal outside of 19 until the tour is over. And if he was signed by 19 it wouldn’t be filled with his own songs. That’s for sure.

Holy crap, $600k PER commercial?! No wonder they wanted the results shows to be an hour long. And another reason I’ll never buy the “Idols should be grateful forever” — they don’t pay the kids much and they aren’t promised anything after they’re done on the show. But the show has already made millions and millions off of them.

But thanks to Idol, this kind of junk continues to have its place. It also gets to the question I always ask of people who enjoy American Idol: What did you listen to or watch before this show debuted? Was it a steady diet of Tony Orlando and Dawn, or Debby Boone, or the Carpenters for you? Did (or do) you have to reach back into history to find the kind of “showmanship” and overwrought vocalizing you crave from Idol?

That one EW article came off a little snooty to me. Most of us viewers know that AI is just good cheesy fun, we don’t consider it our ultimate guide to high pop culture.

That’s what I thought. I knew that once I heard the song that the original singer would appear. I just couldn’t quite remember which Frankie it was, lol. I equivocated between Valley and Avalon…..anyway it wasn’t random at all.

I enjoyed seeing Frankie… dude looks awesome too!

Malaysia’s ‘crush’ on David Archuleta(la times idol tracker)

Sure, the show is called “American Idol,” but that doesn’t mean the contestants don’t have hard-core fans the world over. Case in point? The incredibly high-pitched screaming that ensued when Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta touched down in Malaysia. You can watch if you want to, but be warned: Screeches are ahead. I think somebody strangled a cat around 0:15.

And that was just at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport; not even the concert!

You can see a video of Archie’s Malaysian news conference here, in which the bashful songbird dons a decidedly Malaysian ensemble to get in the international spirit. The baju Melayu is the traditional Malay outfit for men. And Archie definitely pulls it off. Don’t you think?

I suspect that’s the reason why the powers that be sometimes have little concern for the kids’ post AI careers. They make more money in an hour than they do off of most the contestant’s releases.

Fans of David is confirming the Demi/David tour, Davi ftw!

It was Demi’s tour first–David was added to it recently. Hollywood has been planning her tour since January. So this may be something like Miley’s first tour, where the Jonas Brothers opened for her. They had their own fan base by that time, but she had a big following from her TV show.

Demi is actually a lot more popular than it would seem. She’s the new, classier, more talented Miley Cyrus. She just hasn’t been around as long. She writes her own stuff, plays piano and guitar, and today John Mayer tweeted that he loved her song “La La Land” and that he thinks she’ll be around for awhile (not that John Mayer’s word is law, but it’s interesting). Hollywood/Disney is transitioning her from popular because she’s an actress, to popular because she’s a singer. And I suspect that her next album will probably sell really, really well.

The only date with both Demi & David that is up on Ticketmaster (and the one that spilled the secret) is the XL Center in Hartford. That’s the same venue the Idol tour played last summer. So it’s an arena tour.

David and Demi have met and seemed to hit it off very well; they held a genuine appreciation for each otherà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music.

So why was Frankie on American Idol?

Frankie Avalon had a #1 hit record the year Simon was born. “Venus” was number 14 in sales for 1959. He had several hits throughout his career. JoJosie explained this very well. Frankie is still a cutie to this Grammie! :clap_tb:

I know about Demi Lovato. My cousin’s kids like her, not as much as Miley but hey. she was on Camp Rock with Joe Jonas!!1!1!! I’m just surprised since Archie outsold her. But hey, John Mayer likes her, I should like her too. Not. I still haven’t forgiven her for inflicting the world with that heinous “This is Me.”

I’m one of Archie’s adult fans who hopes that this team-up with Demi Lovato means that he will come to a concert hall near me. That’s really all I need and, yes, I’ll buy tickets for myself and my daughters to see David open if that’s how it works.

I’m not too familiar with DL — no one in my house watches the Disney channel and my girls are not JB or MC fans (to put it mildly ) — but I did a quick imdb search and Lovato seems to be an up and coming star with a new TV show and a movie in the works. (Which translates in the young music scene as good exposure, I suppose. And that should work in David’s favor, too.)

I luv Demi and Archie. All my friends are going crazy because they can go see them both at the same time.

Circumstances and timing, really. It was her tour–Hollywood planned it–so she gets top billing. Hollywood is a strange label–they often don’t push their artists’ songs to mainstream radio (until they are deemed “worthy” I suppose), and even then they are very hit and miss in that department (moreso than other labels), and they rely a lot on the Disney brand to get their artists out there, but when it comes to putting together a tour, they’re pretty top notch. Yeah, David has outsold her in both albums and singles. But David doesn’t have a TV show and he wasn’t in a Disney channel movie. Demi is probably bigger with that particular audience, even if she isn’t bigger overall. Jive is pushing David to the youth demo this summer–and that’s probably the best time to do it since school is out. There’s plenty of time to concentrate on everybody else.

BTW, “This Is Me” was a soundtrack song. She kind of had to sing it. And the worst part of that song was Joe Jonas’s vocals.
