Reality Rocks 2011: ‘American Idol’ Season 9 alumni talk show experience

One of the first panels at Reality Rocks 2011 was a round-table discussion with “American Idol” Season 9 alumni Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Michael Lynche, Tim Urban and Paige Miles.

The group is very obviously close – they were laughing and joking with each other. The sense of camaraderie was palpable as they spoke about their experiences on the show.

Here are a few highlights:

Katie’s advice: “Be yourself, Go in there and be yourself. I tried to please everybody and you’re not gonna please anybody if you don’t please yourself first.”

Who Wanted American Idol’s Pia Toscano Gone—and Why?

Usual Suspect No. 1: The show did it!

You know the drill: Idol cut phone lines, rerouted texts and/or deployed a squadron of black helicopters to silence all of Pia’s supporters—something insidious like that to get the show to No. 1. (Oh, wait, the show already is No. 1…?)

Unusual Suspect No. 2: Pia did it!

Tired of being called a front-runner (the nerve!), and strutting her stuff on a mega-hit show week after week (the bother!), she deliberately sabatoged her chances by wearing a totally distracting necklace that totally distracted her supporters. (Take that, black helicopters!)

Pia Toscano’s “American Idol” Elimination; Is Sexism to Blame?

Some are calling it the most shocking “American Idol” elimination ever, while other critics say Pia Toscano’s departure from “American Idol” reveals the underlying sexism of voters on the most popular show on television.

“If you look at the last three seasons of ‘American Idol, ‘ three out of the four final contestants have been men every single time, ” said Dalton Ross, Editor at Entertainment Weekly. “If you look… the last three seasons of ‘American Idol.’ three out of the four final contestants have been men every single time. With only two women left now, it looks like we’re headed in that same direction.”

Not since Jordan Sparks won four years ago has a female taken the “Idol” crown, and one theory is that young girls, who have bolstered the careers of pop stars ranging from the Beatles to Justin Bieber, may be casting the majority of votes … and hormones rule.

Pia Toscano & Mark Ballas Hook Up

Mark Ballas provided comfort to “American Idol” castoff Pia Toscano last night — on what appeared to be a date at an L.A. mall, with a special cameo by Paula Abdul!

They were both gussied up as they left Gulfstream restaurant in Century City, as Pia told us she — like everyone else — was surprised she got the “A.I.” heave-ho.

Until Pia got the boot, they were both rehearsing and shooting their shows next to each other at CBS Television City in L.A.

It’s unclear if Mark — a known chick magnet — or Pia made the first move.

Carrie Underwood Makes Movie Debut In ‘Soul Surfer’: We Look Back At Other Singers’ Silver Screen Starts

When it comes to “American Idol” alumni success, there’s really no one who comes close to Carrie Underwood. Yes, Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry have had chart-topping hits and Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar, but Carrie is the definition of a superstar. From taking the country and pop industry by storm, being a fashion icon, making us laugh on her guest spot on “How I Met Your Mother” and having one of the most-talked about celebrity weddings of 2010, the former “AI” champ just dazzles.

So it’s of no surprise that the Grammy-winning singer is conquering another part of the biz: movies! The inspiring biopic “Soul Surfer, ” which opens in theaters today, marks Carrie’s film debut as Sarah Hill, the real-life youth counselor who befriended the amazing surfer/survivor Bethany Hamilton (played by AnnaSophia Robb).

Carrie Underwood was front and center for her husband’s pro hockey game last night in Nashville, and RadarOnline.com has the pictures.

Mike Fisher was traded from the Ottawa Senators, where he’s played his entire career, to the Nashville Predators in February, and that’s making it a lot easier for the busy Underwood to get to his games.
