Executive Vice President of Specials, Music and Live Events for CBS Entertainment, Jack Sussman phoned in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” Friday morning to chat what’s in store with upcoming 46th Annual Academy Country Music Awards.
Jack says, “Carrie Underwood will walk out and I guarantee you she will be burning down that stage…she’s going to do nice little duet, but wants it to be kept between her and her duet partner-and if you know her well, you know you do not want to make her upset.”

Second Hudson concert added to Ravina schedule
The Ravinia Festival has added a second Jennifer Hudson concert to the 2011summer line-up. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 17. Pavilion tickets are available for purchase for $80, lawn tickets are $33. Tickets to this concert and all other 2011 shows go on sale to the public on April 27, exclusively at Ravinia.org.
Hudson makes her Ravinia debut the night before, on Saturday, July 16.

Was Idol’s Naima A Stripper?
Never mind her singing, it’s American Idol castoff Naima Adedapo’s sexy dance moves that captured the attention of viewers — especially one in particular.
Dave Fuhr, a businessman in Naima’s hometown of Milwaukee and former manager of the now closed local strip club Rickey’s, tells Star that the moment he first saw Naima on TV, “I knew she looked familiar.… Then I realized it was probably the same young woman named Naima who danced at Rickey’s for just a couple weeks sometime in 2005.”
A second source, a former dancer at Rickey’s, also tells Star, “I knew her as soon as I saw her on Idol, and she’s just as pretty now. I think she danced at Rickey’s to make some extra cash while she was going to college. It wasn’t that risqué — it was topless, but we had to wear pasties!” A rep for Fox declined to comment.

Pia Toscano has the most polished voice, but we haven’t seen her stray too much from ballads. If she could do something up tempo from the pop music genre, and nail it, she might win it all. And although she’s got super-model good looks, she doesn’t own the stage.

Can Taylor Swift finally beat Carrie Underwood at the Academy of Country Music Awards?
Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” (2008) won album of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards, but she’s never won best female vocalist or any other top ACM prize for that matter. Now she battles her toughest foe, Carrie Underwood, for the crown as best female vocalist at the kudocast to be televised Sunday night in Las Vegas (CBS, 8 p.m. PT/ET).
In 2007, Swift won an ACM trophy as a new vocalist, but Underwood claimed the top prize as best female vocalist that year. Underwood also won in 2006 and 2008. Last year, Swift and Underwood lost to the hottest new country diva on the block: Miranda Lambert. Now Swift, Lambert and Underwood face off against Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack. Womack’s never won. McEntire holds the record in the category with seven wins, but the last was way back in 1996.

‘Glee’ Star Matthew Morrison Announces Summer Tour
The five-week, 22-city U.S. trek begins mid-June in Minneapolis and ends late July in Los Angeles.

Matthew Morrison, who plays the glee club teacher Mr. Schuester on Fox’s Glee, announced a nationwide summer concert tour Friday.

No clue who Carrie’s performing with. Zooming in on the board in the ACM executive producer’s vlogs shows she’s supposed to be performing Undo It which would not be my choice. But the board didn’t say anything about a special guest. Hopefully the duet partner can make it worth it if UI’s the song but even better if she sings a better song from Play On.
I also hope the ACMs do a tribute to Mel McDaniel who passed away yesterday. He was also from Checotah Oklahoma.
The 4th slide of the Cosmo slideshow interview shows Carrie shooting a new VitaminWater commercial with Matthew Rolston.
Taylor Swift will not and should not beat Carrie for Top Female Vocalist at the ACMs this year because Miranda Lambert will be winning it. I also think people are more reluctant to vote for her in a vocal category anymore but I could be kidding myself. But Taylor could win Entertainer if her bribery tactic of offering Sony cameras and concert tickets for votes worked.

Excited for the ACM’s, yay! Maybe Carrie’s duet will be more newsworthy than Sugarland and Rihanna’s. I know I’m gonna hate that one. I love Sugarland and this is a step down for them. I don’t care if it brings in a few extra viewers who wouldn’t normally watch just to see Rihanna (but, pleez, there won’t be *that* many extra. Who are we kidding.) I do wanna see Blake Shelton attempt to behave on live tv however. Hee.
ACMs are the West Coast based awards show for country music that take place in Vegas and will air on CBS Sunday. Most people would say they aren’t considered as prestigious as the CMAs which are Nashville-based and take place in November on ABC. But there are some people the ACMs have been more on the ball about honoring because they’re not as stodgy, like Carrie as Entertainer Of The Year and Miranda Lambert for Album Of The Year for her sophomore album.
The CMAs are the show that Carrie and Brad have cohosted the past 3 years. Reba’s hosted the ACMs for a while and this year she’s cohosting them with Blake Shelton.
mandabutter: ITA about the Jennifer Nettles/Rihanna thing. I listened to California King Bed and it’s not a bad song. But it’s a spot they could’ve given to Chris Young who would’ve killed it on that show.
Nina, the ACMs are more esteemed. Very old and traditional academy for the most part. They’re somewhat sensitive to what talent they nominate.
The CMAs, to me, are always more entertaining but 95% of the time the right people win at the ACMs, which is the one coming up. hope that helps.

Reba’s singing a new single (When Love Gets A Hold Of You) at the ACMs. MUCH better than the 1st 2 singles off her album in which she was trying to be Carrie then Beyonce. She’s frakkin Reba, she shouldn’t be trying to be anybody else! The new single is country pop that actually fits Reba.
BTW are you sure you didn’t get the acronyms mixed up? The CMAs are actually older than the ACMs and the ACMs are the ones that are usually more entertaining performances.
I don’t have inside info on this but I don’t think so. The reason is Brad’s got a single out there (Old Alabama that features the band Alabama) that he’s already playing at the ACMs. If he performed the duet with Carrie this early it’d mess up airplay for Old Alabama because radio would want the duet. The Brad/Carrie duet’s supposedly going to radio in late May so I think they’ll probably perform it at the AI finale and not before then.
I can’t see Taylor beating Carrie. Carrie’s success is astounding and just goes to show you that potential is what matters in this contest. Carrie even had poor performances on Idol.

Looks like that tweet may just be an April Fools joke. I (think I) see Kris is in the picture. No sign of Adam. It’s probably some sort of interview or photo shoot Kris is doing.

LOL when I saw something about this, this morning I thought it was an April Fools joke…..Kris might want to either ditch the dog (he gets more press than him) or maybe start a variety show with him. Like the gong show because Zorro is defiantly a press magnet.
It may be, especially since the picture that she’s using is the one that was posted by the person from Tru Hollywood. Since her bio says she is a photographer, I would expect her to have her own pictures. But, since she also says that she’s a publicist, I don’t see why she would risk making that tweet.
I’m sure that Kris is still ahead of Zorro in the getting attention from the press department. And in this case, Kris benefits from getting interviewed, and having his face and name in a magazine that has a big readership. It’s great publicity.

That VH1 thing is interesting. There was a tweet about a month or so ago from Adam’s Zodiac friend, Carmit (hope that’s the spelling), where she mentioned interviewing with VH1 for “a friend’s” VH1 Behind the Music. People wondered if it was for Adam, but she never spilled more details.
This is true. Kris was just being interviewed as part of the Adam special.

Totally. Word around town is that Zorro is going to be cast as the new lead in the Twilight series. Stephanie is writing a new book where Bella tosses Edward to the curb, has Jacob impounded and gets herself a cute puppy so that she can live happily ever after. He’s also getting a cameo as Ron’s Patronus in the last Harry Potter movie and they are interviewing stunt dogs for his big part in the next Spiderman movie (he’s already filmed his part of the “Wise Alien” for the latest Star Trek movie and did all his own stunts AND dancing).
I don’t know if the Lambert story is true or not but I think it is kind of funny. It must be kind of difficult to really offend Lady Gaga and Perez. Gaga’s not exactly a saint herself. Maybe they like the attention on themselves and not on others?

Here’s a little People interview with Carrie. Tons of Carrie interviews this week because of the press junket for Soul Surfer.
I have a guess about Carrie’s secret duet partner if the Undo It spoiler isn’t a foiler. I think it’s Steven Tyler. In his preseason press conference he was mentioning how he likes Carrie and his friend has written a couple of singles with her. His friend is Marti Frederiksen who cowrote Undo It and Mama’s Song and has collaborated a lot with Aerosmith. Too, Carrie told MTV she’d had a chance to talk to Steven Tyler about this season. I don’t think she’d been to the AI set yet as of Thursday because on Wednesday night at the Soul Surfer Hollywood premiere she was still saying she couldn’t wait to meet the contestants. So it was some other chance she had to talk to him. Maybe because of the ACMs.
I can’t wait to see video of this! It’s going to be fun!
So, basically you’ve seen a lot of mainstream articles that feature Zorro, but not Kris? I haven’t seen those, and since any article about Zorro is bound to show his owner’s name and maybe his picture, I’d say that it’s good pub. for Kris.
The only reason that any publication would talk about the dog is because he belongs to Kris. If sites like the New York Post and OK! didn’t think that Kris name could bring hits to their sites, or if they thought that nobody was interested in Kris they wouldn’t mention him or Zorro.

Hey I agree with you! Any publicity is good publicity even if it is for having a cute dog. A re there a lot of dogs that have twitter accounts? I don’t keep track. To me it seems like the dog’s twitter might have brought Kris to OK Mag’s attention. Unless they just randomly selected Kris which is cool too. Not arguing. But I do think the dog tweeting stuff is stupid.
Or then again perhaps they’ll actually be interested in Lambert and his music. :)
Oh, I’m sure it will probably include the sales of FYE, the mostly sold out national and international glamnation tour and I would bet the grammy nomination too. Probably also be some stuff about his music videos since VH1 seems to like them alot. Maybe some stuff about the Live Concert DVD too. That would be nice.

If it is more about the music I will watch it. I hope that they do cover the music side. I just assumed that these specials are always similar in the story they portray from the ones I have seen.

All of the VH1 BTM specials I have seen were mostly about the music. They do talk about their lives and how that affected their music and so forth but its usually about that. P!NK’s was amazing. Talked about her music career and how it effected her personal life. Haha there was even some great stuff about her having to deal with all the X-Tina BS from the Lady Maralade video.

Kellie just sang her cover of Don’t Close Your Eyes and also Red High Heels at the Opry tonight.
After her set Bill Anderson did a short interview with her about her new album. He said he’s been hearing great things about some of the stuff she’s recording and Kellie said she thinks it’s her best work yet by far. He said he heard she was going more country with the album. Kellie said she’s really been soaking up the Waylon/Eddy Arnold/Tammy/Hank Cochrane/Dolly records that her grandparents love and was going to go as far back to traditional country as “they’d let” her with “they” probably meaning the label. I think that’ll be a much better fit for her than the poppy stuff on her sophomore album.

She talks about the movie, when she and Mike will expand their family, and new music. Carrie mentions how she’s had to calm her fans down who want to know when stuff is happening because she doesn’t want to rush the new album but she’s writing and is happy with how things are shaping up.
Pink’s BTM is really, really good too. She fought hard for the album she wanted, it’s worth watching. Lots of good stuff about her and Linda Perry too. Actually most BTM that I have seen, I used to watch lots of them when they were on weekly, are pretty well done.

Adam’s E True Hollywood Story was quite a bit more than just “gay” and American Idol. His parents, friends and teachers were interviewed, with lots of great pictures and videos. I thought it was presented very well.
Now what is this VH1 thing? Is Kris being featured?

From tweets, VH1 is going to have a Behind the Music special on Adam and Kris was interviewed for it today. There were previous tweets from Adam’s friend Carmit Bachar that she had been interviewed for BTM, but she didn’t say who the subject was, just that it was a dear friend.
No confirmation from VH1, but read back in the thread and you can see the tweets.
I think the tweets from Zorro are cute and I love the press he is getting. A refreshing break for the press obsessing over boyfriend/girlfriends and the usual. I say bring on the photo shoot!
I even tweeted Danny about Zorro’s twitter page to instill a little jealousy, hoping we’d get more Fozzy pics, but no such luck :(

The whole VH1 thing today confused twitter! The posts went from “oh, Kris is doing an interview with VH1…cool” to “Kris and Adam are doing an interview together?” or “why is Adam at Kris’s interview?” to “Adam’s getting a Behind the Scenes show? Why is Kris at Adam’s interview?” and “why are they interviewing Kris about Adam?”The last question is the one that I don’t get — why wouldn’t they interview Kris about Adam? Got to figure Adam’s run on Idol is going to be a big part of the show, and who better to ask about it (besides Adam himself) then Kris? Makes perfect sense to me.
Then maybe Kris will have the success that Daughtry has had.

There is a big difference between when Daughtry released his CD and when Kris did. I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to understand that fact. If you’re a new artist, I would think you’d want to be where the “action” is. Just my opinion, obviously.

Kris isn’t a struggling artist anymore. He’s got a good management team that does all the work in keeping him visible. That’s what they get paid to do. It doesn’t matter where he lives all he needs to do is hop on a plane and go where they tell him to go. Not everyone wants to live in the big city. I know in the beginning him and his wife stayed in LA for a few months and my guess is they prefer to be in Arkansas.

Changing the subject here, but thought i would report:
I just got home from the Crystal Bowersox concert. She was my favorite on Idol last year. The show was excellent. She sang a few songs off her album “Farmers Daughter, Holy Toledo, Mason, Mine all Mine, Arlene, and she did a great job on Gnarles Barkley’s “Crazy”. She also brought down the house with Me and Bobby McGee. Her husband sang a couple of his songs also. I enjoyed the show very much.
She had a bad cold but she did not hit one bad note and sounded better live than on her album. I’m so glad I went.
That’s not a given. It’s just that a lot of artists do have homes outside of the industry hubs so that they can recharge. Shaina moved to the Switzerland during the height of her career. Kelly Clarkson lives in Texas. Steven Tyler lives in Maui.
Others like to live in the nexus of the biz. It gives them energy. It’s just different types of people. Like introverts and extroverts. How do you keep fresh? How do you keep creative? Neither way is best for all, IMO.
I think they would’ve stayed in L.A. if Katy had pursued the acting thing. But since she didn’t, I guess they wanted to live where their families and friends do. Seems reasonable to me. Both have said they like L.A., though, so it’s possible they might eventually have two places — a house in Arkansas and an apt. in L.A. Does Daughtry have a place here or does he just stay in hotels if he needs to be in L.A. for any length of time? What about Kelly?

Adam’s getting a Behind the Music? Remember when that show meant something? I mean, what? Are they running out of people?
Eh, I don’t see nasty so much as illustrating her point rather well that the artist’s choice of home base isn’t all that important in the grand scheme of things. When Daughtry worked on his second album, he spent a lot of time in LA (probably rented out here), which is probably what Kris will be doing.
Anyway, as to your second point, I think the important difference is not when Daughtry released relative to Kris, but rather that Daughtry’s debut album just resonated with the public a lot more. Saying that it’s all about the era when he released reduces his accomplishments quite a bit — he did after all, finish with the #1 album of the Billboard year back in 2007. I think only Carrie (and maybe Kelly) have done that in the history of Idol. None of the other Idols have come even close.

She’s trying to raise money for a good cause, but after hearing this I believe America made the right decision about her.
I guess VH1 thinks he has, for which I’m grateful. Loved that he was their first Posted artist, got to do the return of their Unplugged series and now this. Hopefully it will come out around the time of his single or next album, that would be fab.

I did think it was a little odd when E! did the Hollywood True Story for Adam, mainly because it is so early in his career (at least in terms of public recognition). Because they did it so early, that show will seem really dated if he goes on to have this long, incredible career (of course I suppose they can always just make another version of it — a follow up or Pt 2 of the show). Personally I’d prefer until he was a little more established and there was more to talk about, but I’m not going to begrudge Adam these shows or say he doesn’t deserve it. If the people at VH1 or A&E or wherever think he’s worthy of getting these shows, well then, that’s cool with me. I watched the E! True Hollywood Story and I’ll watch the VH1 BTM when it comes out, as well. Hopefully I’ll learn something I don’t already know… :)

Let’s aee, hmmm…Adam had a very jaw dropping run on idol, with many show stopping performances, had a couple top 40 hits, came out as openly gay, sold over a million cd’s worldwide, had a successful WORLD tour, helped raise tons of money for charities, has had tons of media attention (both good and bad) is working on a second album, is supportive of other artists, has gold and platinum awards, nominated for a grammy…the list goes on. Yeah, can’t see why anyone would be interested in doing a behind the scenes :roll:
I think that people forget that the general public is different than the idol bubble in their viewing. Not everone watches every idol related show and while there is some overlap, the non idol obsessed may see the special and may not have seen E!THS. I’m just glad VH1 chose him, it’s been an incredible two years!

I’m sorry, but based on what Behind the Music was supposed to be about, none of that warrants an episode. These last few years, Behind the Music has been nothing but fluff pieces. This episode is going to be another one.

Except be the most incredible vocalist to come along in like forever!!! Let’s stay focused on the music shall we? He also delivers that incredible one/two punch of having that absolutely irresistible combination of amazing vocals and performance prowess….THE DUDE CAN DANCE!!!! He is just incredible to watch perform and everyone is starting to see this. This GNT DVD is BEYOND, the entire tour was incredible, first Idol to tour the globe???? That’s NOT doing something?? And he did it perfectly, almost total sell out around the world!!!! He handled that tour like a seasoned pro! I think there is definately a whole different and new conversation for Adam for this time around and I can’t wait. The interview with Kris should be amazing. Go Adam!!!!
Behind the music has never been some sort of lifetime achievement award show. When it first started the focus was mainly on 70s and 80s acts that had either broken up or faded from public view. Then they liked to focus on metal and hair bands so they could talk about how much sex they had and how they all almost overdosed ( motley crüe and poison were my personal favorites). Then they stopped making them for a while although occasionally there would be a new one now and then. About a year or two ago they fully brought the series back and focussed on current artists rather than artists who had their heyday 15-20 years earlier. Now they use BHT music similarly to their other promotional efforts like the countdown, unplugged, posted etc. I like the new focus on current artists. I liked fantasias and J-Huds episodes. Adam appears to have a close relationship with VH1 so it is not surprising they are doing a BHT music on him. It will probably air around the time of cd 2 lead single or album drop.
Crystal is this months CMT posted artist. Interesting that they are doing it with CMT and not VH 1. I guess they are trying to focus more on country??

I watched the Christina Aguilera episode. That was done just to promote her album. It was boring because I knew all that stuff they talked about. Same with the Jennifer Lopez episode. She hasn’t done much to warrant one, but they gave her one anyway. The only recent episodes I’ve liked were New Edition and Bobby Brown (which were pretty damn good episodes; check those out if you can). The recent episodes are fluff just to make the artist look good. Maybe there will be a Behind the Music: Willow Smith coming soon.
Nobody I know watched Adam on e true Hollywood story. And nobody I know will watch VH1. I have to remind them. They seem to know who Adam Lambert is, though. We really are in a bubble here.
It’s great about the VH1 show. Of course we won’t get any new info but it will be new to many many people.
BTM used to be a treasure trove of back stage gossip and stuff you didn’t know about the artists. The only two I remember seeing recently were episodes about Eve and JLo. Of course I may be confusing ETHS and BTM. Those shows tend to blur together for me.
I guess we have to wait until the episode airs to find out what’s to be included, before we can chalk it up to a fluff piece. ;) And while these shows are used for promotion, but they also can be pretty informative. (Just watching Pink’s again about L.A. Reid and Linda Perry) In reality, there’s not a whole lot we don’t know about Adam’s career, he’s been open about most stuff, unless they dig out some stuff that hasn’t been covered yet. What happened with RedOne? What happened in the FYE process, there HAD to be some butting heads on the album cover art. Yes he’s had some interesting bumps and bruises throughout his post Idol career and along the tour, some before. HiFi records? Protested in Malaysia?
I think I can be a fan without proclaiming his Behind the Music episode is because hes ‘best singer and dancer’ evah! He has a relationship with VH1, things are negotiated. But that doesn’t mean it’s insignificant either. It’s kinda cool.
I think they can come up with some new material without making it a commercial for Era 2. But hopefully it will include Era 2 album behind the scenes, because it’s an interesting process to me. I will go watch Christina’s now, I hadn’t seen it yet.
So Adam Lambert got his on Behind the Music? That’s quite impressive. I like the new direction Behind the Music has been heading to lately. It used to be all these old acts from the 70’s & 80’s that no one under the age of 45 cared about. Now they are getting more current and relevant and appealing to a younger demographic.
This will give Adam Lambert some more exposure and keep him in the public’s eye.

I never criticize reviews because it’s a person’s opinion. But that particular linked review seemed so silly and over the top, it read like something done for a fan site.If Idol had a competition for managers, I think Adam and Kat’s managers def belong in the Top tier. I still give Kat’s team the edge though. ;)
I am one of those that happen not to believe it is just the GAY getting him all these opportunities. Afterall if that were to be the case, all the other GAYS that also contested on AI ought to have gotten those opportunities and have had his kind of career for example or is he the first and the last GAY that was ever on the platform of American Idol?.
This reason would be more accurate if he was indeed the only GAY that ever auditioned or was featured on AI.
The Scissors Sisters were before him in the States and even they haven’t had all these opportunities Adam has despite the fact they hit it overseas.
Something more than the GAY must be the reason why he is getting all these opportunities, I think.
I don’t think that BTM is a trash show, it’s usually pretty good, but I do think it’s a bit too early for Adam to have one. Aside from him being the best voice ever (or whatever), he hasn’t accomplished a lot yet. He’s had three songs, one flopped, one was a nice sized hit, but no where near a mega hit, and the other did okay. It’s not liked he’s accomplished things that nobody else has, or even that no other idols have.But, perception is everything, and the meme that he’s had a lot of sold out concerts is a good one, even if a lot of those concerts were in places that held fewer than 3000 people. And saying that there is a demand for him sounds good, even if radio just treated the most recent song that was released to them in the same way that they treated Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze last singles.Adams management has done a very good job of crafting a particular image, which will help him a lot in the current marketplace. I doubt that most people inside or outside of the bubble even realize that Kris’ LLWD and Adam’s WWFM had similar chart runs in 2010, or that FYE was Adam’s first single. Or, even though they know that Adam sold very well in Canada, how well did the album do during the release of IIHY or Sleepwalker, and how many copies did those two songs wind up selling in Canada, as well as in other countries. That’s important information, since Adam is being labeled an international superstar. It also goes back to perception, since we learned yesterday that Carrie has sold 4 million albums outside of the US, yet she isn’t labeled as an international superstar, yet Adam whose album sales outside of the US pale in comparison to hers, is.
I hate when people say this, because I always think it implies that nobody watched the show, but in this case, the ratings for the initial broadcast of THS were surprisingly low. In contrast, Fantasia’s reality show that aired on the same night drew around 500,000 people, but Adam’s THS didn’t come near that.
I’m not particularly a fan of the guy. I’m not particularly a fan of any of them. I like the show because it’s fun to watch. I don’t own one CD from any of these idols and probably never will. Though I do own singles from some of them. I think I’m more a fan of the show than the contestants.
That said out of everyone who has ever come from the show I find Adam Lambert the most intriguing. I’m not sure why I do but I do. I read this blog from this girl Rocco who is my age and I can relate to it. She’s a fan of the show more than the contestants too. I think she put it the best. She is a fan of Adam’s lifestyle. He fascinates her. The way he dresses the people he hangs out with the Hollywood club life. People our age find that interesting. Older people might find it offensive. But I think most artists today are aiming for a younger rather than older fan base anyway. If he concentrates his next CD on a younger and more radio friendly CD he’ll be very successful.
Elliegirl, you’re missing the point though. What you post is maybe the perception for some within the Idol bubble, but there’s obviously lots of interest in Adam outside the Idol bubble otherwise he wouldn’t be given these opportunities. Sure others have sold more and have had bigger hits, but maybe the media doesn’t find them as interesting or newsworthy as Adam. I really do think that counts for a lot in addition to the fact that Adam is incredibly talented.
I don’t know, I think Adam has accomplished A LOT in the past two years. And, I am expecting even more with the second album.
Besides the music, I think Adam is just an interesting person.
It must be tough for shows like BTM these days. With the internet, twitter, gossip shows, etc. I mean, it’s not like they are uncovering deep, dark secrets anymore.
How having a segment on BTM can be considered anything but a positive is beyond me. :)

I don’t have a problem with Adam getting a Behind The Music episode. I just don’t understand why Kris’ management would allow him to participate. How would this benefit Kris? Adam will get attention because the show is about him but Kris would be more or less a side note. Just looking at twitter a lot of Adam’s fans were not too thrilled with Kris’ participation. It will only continue to the fan wars over two years after the show ended. Then there is the issue of how they will edit Kris into the show. The E! spot was short when talking about Kris but it did not leave a good impression IMO.
I think if it wasn’t for AI it would have been much harder. America got to know him for months and saw past the gay and saw his talent, it’s why he made it all the way to #2. There is a reason why he’s the first to be signed to a US major label, it just isn’t that easy. It’s why you have people like Mellisa Eldridge, Linda Perry, Elton John, Jennifer Nettles, all huge stars behind him. They’ve been through it. 20 yrs later
the younger ones are still having a problem being signed unless you closet yourself. It’s definitely not lack of talent. Just look at Jacob from this season. Very talented whether he’s your cup of cocoa or not. He gets words like diva, OTT, thrown at him. Those are just code words for gay,gay,gay. I’m sure there a lot of people that would justify it by just saying he’s not talented or deserving to win. JMO.

If all it indeed took for Adam to have all these opportunities is being GAY, don’t you think it would be wise for some of these contestants to also identify as GAYS?
Also, can’t all the GAYS prior to and after Adam that were ever on AI cry FOUL since their gay didn’t get them all these opportunities or gave them his kind of career???
I agree, I think that’s what I said, at least it’s what I meant. My point wasn’t that there’s not interest, just that 19 and RCA have molded how people perceive Adam. I’m going along with the idea that there are few people who have achieved as little as Adam has that would be get these opportunities. Perception is everything, and the facts mean very little. I’m not diminishing his accomplishments, just looking at them in comparison to what others have done, including both former idols and other artists, as well as Adam’s actual album numbers, and how well (or not) he’s done at radio, and how well ( or not) he’s done in other countries.
E and VH1 are niche channels…they do not appeal to everyone and their focus (at least today) is about pop culture and how entertainers impact and are impacted by that culture. THS and BTM isn’t about someone’s “career” (leave that to Biography and Inside the Actor’s Studio) it is about how someone progresses from point A to point B and how their journey is reflected in their career.
I don’t think the audience that watches these channels are interested in the home town boy who marries his high school sweet heart and still spends his holidays with his family. They want a little more edge, they want someone who has had societal challenges, who has been wrapped up in the world outside of middletown USA.
Like many “pop” stars (culture not genre) Adam has had an interesting journey to where he is today. He has been honing his craft for better than half of his life…it isn’t like he came from nowhere and had a single hit. And, yup, the Gay thing is part of Adam and the interest around him….it is part of the man and part of his struggles and his career choices.
And, I think Adam is pretty much found a second fan base outside of the AI bubble as well as having many of his AI fans focusing on him rather than the show, anymore. He is interesting to lots of people and BTM will sell well as an independent piece to international TV. VH1 knows a cash cow for their small station.
The point is that she’s not labeled or perceived as an international superstar, or someone who has had success internationally, yet someone who has sold around 3 to 400K outside of the US is.
I agree. It’s part of the problem with Kris being managed by 19. He’s a great guy, but I’m anticipating more of what we saw during the idol tour, with Kris playing a role in diminishing his own accomplishments in order to help promote Adam.
ok, finished re-watching Pink’s BTM. It’s damn emotional, I got a little teary in parts. All the music ‘has or has nots’ success aside, I think there’s a good interview yet to be uncovered. He’s been very guarded. He gives a lot of information on the surface, he’s very chatty, but nothing seriously cut to the heart deep. What were the two weeks post AMAs like for him? I wanna see the dirt.
It’s his management’s job to get these gigs. Work it for era 2. Nothing wrong with that.
Not sure about Canada, I know IIHY ranked #34 on their year end charts. The song went double platinum in Australia, gold in New Zealand and has sold over 750k here I believe. Unless RCA has it certified in other countries, tough to get numbers.
I wish Kris wasn’t a part of this also. Adam’s friends and some of his family did not leave a good impression in the E special about Kris. I was legit shocked.

My line of thinking is more like, since he got launched on AI on the sole reason of being GAY according to some people and that also has been the only reason why he’s been getting more than the opportunities he deserves and since he is obviously not the first gay that was featured on AI either during the contest proper or during the auditions, the GAY factor ought to have also catapulted all those other obviously GAY contestants unto his kind of career and opportunities. Afterall, some of those contestants were also heavely (sp) featured and the American audience was also given an opportunity to also know and vote for them.
I still think, something more than the GAY must be at play here.
I doubt Kris was forced into this. Maybe he just loves Adam and is happy to support him. Adam would certainly do the same.

I think things like True Hollywood Story and BTM is not only great PR for Adam, but also the American Idol brand. It promotes the artist, but also it promotes the show and it’s significance in producing some successful artist. I don’t think Simon Fuller and American Idol would have any complaints.
If I was Kris’ mangagement I would have only allowed him to participate if I secured something in return from VH1 related to album #2 & the first single.
Yea, I’m an Adam fan and I like Kris and they seemed to have a nice friendship while on Idol and on the tour. I don’t see why he wouldn’t do the special. Competition has been over for a while. lol
I’m curious what you mean by Kris playing a role? During the idol tour, I remember watching a lot of the interviews, and don’t remember Kris diminishing his accomplishments. Adam got alot of promo during the tour, mostly by reviewers.
Yeah, the reaction on my feed to Kris being interviewed on BTM was mixed just because of the inevitable fan wars. Did a tweetdeck search and lots of Kris fans upset about it too.
I doubt Kris being interviwed for BTM is going to do his career any harm. I did think the way the E! show was edited set out to put him in a bit of a poor light. But VH1/MTV has a strong relationship with Kris — they seem to really like him, so I doubt their producers are going to try and make him seem like this loser or anything. If his management thought he would come off poorly, they wouldn’t have agreed to have him do the interview. He’s not likely to have a huge role in the package, anyway.
If Kris ever gets a BTM special done about him, I fully expect Adam to be interviewed :)
i don’t think Kris is going to have a problem getting a interview with VH1 about his second album and first single. He did have a hit song that went platinum and they played his music video a lot on the countdown.
Well, Adam clearly has been accepted by the industry tastemaker types and by the media, so he’d be nuts not to take advantage of it. Everybody coming off this silly show has to figure out where their mojo works in this marketplace. And part of Adam’s arsenal is that he gets attention. As long as that’s in his bag of tricks he needs to use it, IMO. Good on him!
One of the best, most vulnerable and open Adam interviews was the one he did for Out magazine. That one is a treasure but unfortunately it got overshadowed by the controversy Aaron Hinklin caused. I always thought that interviewer had to have been pissed because she did a fantastic job with Adam and her interview did not get the attention it deserved thanks to her editor. I wish I had the link but it was great although it was pre AMAs.
Wow I would hope that Kris has at least a little control over his participation in specials and events and is not only “allowed” to things they approve of. Kris and Adam seem to have formed at the very least a mutual respect for each other as artists, if not a genuine friendship. Maybe Kris just thought he would like to participate for the fun of it, not to “get something” out of it.
Iihy was in the top ten of the Canadian hot 100 for quite a while and was also a canadian top10/5 radio hit. It did quite well there
Anyway, I always find it interesting how difficult the idol bubble finds it to process Adam. And I think at least some of the reason is because in addition to the music Adam is a pop cultural lightning rod in a way no other artist off idol has been. People love him or loathe him- but regardless still talk about him. I think the media and the public find him fascinating- the makeup, the clothes, the parties, the friends, the controversy etc. There is a glamour about him. He generates Internet hits – both from peeps who love and loathe him- so he gets written about. But unlike reality stars who are just famous for being famous, he has a real career. His cd was well reviewed and sold well – not a smash, but it was one of the years better sellers. He had two singles that did well – again, not mega smashes, but hits that people heard ( altho I don’t quite understand why crush is considered a smash in idol world while LLWD and wwfm are not- the sales are not that far apart and they charted within 2-3 places if each other on chr- with wwfm and LLWD doing better on hac. But I digress). And the industry seems to like him as he was nominated for a Grammy. And putting aside sales for the moment he had a top ten radio hit in a lot of other countries that raised his international profile. But I think in idol world none of that matters. The idea is that Carrie, Kelly and daughtry sold x and they are famous and unless you have equivalent sales you are not worthy of fame or other opportunities (unless you win an Oscar…). But in the real world that is not how it works. Sorry for the long post just musing on a sat morning

That’s true. He did have that big hit. I guess, right now, that makes him more of a one hit wonder than a struggling artist.
Frankly I think Kris is a real sweetheart and I loved their bromance on the show. I’m looking forward to seeing what he has to say. The same as if the roles were reversed.
Kris doesn’t strike me as someone who will do something for a friend for something in return. I also don’t think Kris will have a problem getting an interview and song played by VH1. He didn’t before. Anything more than that would probably depend on how well the 2nd era goes, just like with any artist.
If I were Kris, I would have passed on this, considering all the comparisons that he had to put up with. He needs to move on with his career and continue forging his own identity. These guys were basically contestants on a TV show. Fan fiction elevated their relationship to more than it was. The reality is that their lives are so different, I doubt they would cross paths outside of the “Idol” world. Season 8 is long history. Everyone has moved on with their lives, as it should be.
Lambert seems to have done a lot of things that the Idol bubble feels he didn’t earn. The E! special, the Rolling Stone Cover, the Grammy nomination, the Idol mentoring stint, and now a VH1 BTM episode. I’m sure I’m missing some. When will this insanity end?
The first Idol season I watched was Lambert’s. I didn’t watch last year. I’m close to giving up on this year. The person above put it best:

Many people had to purchase high-priced scalped tickets to see Adam, even after additional dates were added to the same venue. Japan added two dates in Tokyo because the first two sold-out. I think Kris will be shown in a good light because he is being interviewed. By the way, I was in a restaurant a couple of weeks ago and I heard AWM! It’s too bad they didn’t go with that song for his second single. I think it could have gone well.
I like the fact that Adam and his management are keeping him in the public eye while he works on his second album.
Just reading over the past couple days’ threads and wanted to comment on this. I had the impression while watching the E special that they had really spliced and diced the interviews. It was particularly obvious on the interview with Adam’s mom. I don’t even remember what it was she was saying in reference to Kris, but I do remember feeling kind of sorry and awkward for her because they had literally cut her comment off mid-sentence, potentially changing the entire intent of her comment. Knowing that Kris’s and Adam’s families had bonded during the experience, I truly doubt that she her statement was as negative as it came off had it been allowed to play out in full without the editors chopping her off mid-thought. His friend, Alisan, had stated that she was shocked that Adam had lost, but I didn’t think that was negative towards Kris, just biased towards Adam. As Adam’s good friend, she’s understandably partial to him.
Not one of Adam’s family or friends said anything derogatory about Kris. Although the viewers did not hear the questions that led to the “problematic” (and highly edited, I might add) answers, they can be inferred.
“What was your reaction to Adam’s loss?” – to Adam’s friends. They’re Adam’s friends, they all worked with him and totally believed in his talent – of course they thought he deserved the win, and were stunned and upset that he didn’t win. So were a lot of other people, who had far less reason to be.
“What was the judges’/Simon’s reaction when the winner was announced?” – to Leila. Some seemed to take exception to her comments, but IMO it just seemed like a recounting of what she saw, with no particular opinions attached to it. I didn’t pick up on any smugness or sense of satisfaction.
“What do you think of the conspiracy theories about the final vote?” – to Neil. He didn’t seem to take them terribly seriously, nor did he seem to care, but essentially said he didn’t know. Which he didn’t. Like the rest of us not involved in counting the votes, he could only speculate, which he didn’t bother to do. Adam, of course, laughed it off, as he has done all along.
And again – everything we saw was highly edited to support whatever narrative the program wanted to depict. We have no way of knowing what wound up on the cutting room floor, or if the edited comments truly reflected the tone of everything that was said.
If Kris was comfortable with being interviewed about Adam, then I’m pleased about his inclusion in the program. No matter what their relationship is, or is not, now, they went through the entire AI experience side by side – harmoniously, by all reputable accounts – which means Kris is in a unique position to comment on Adam’s AI journey. It seems there’s no way to win…I remember some resentment when he wasn’t included in the THS; now there’s some resentment that he IS apparently being included in the BTM.
I don’t see anything wrong with Kris being interview for this. Him and Adam are friends after all, and am sure Kris wanted to be a part of this. If my friend was being interviewed I sure would won’t to be a part of it. The only thing that bother’s me is that people are going to say Kris is being interviewed for something about Adam, and he won not Adam. But that happens alot anyways, and am sure Kris know’s that it will keep happening. So either if Kris wasn’t being interviewed, people would still say something.
I love watching the “behind the image” shows because often there are stories that I was not aware of that are inspirational. In the case of a story on Adam, even though I don’t follow him, there is a lot of information that I have come across here on this site which does make me wonder how they will present the show. To me Adam seems to have a rather “normal” life story so far, maybe even advantaged in some regard. He comes from a seemingly normal middle class upbringing with a normal childhood, graduated high school, realized he is gay, but his parents were and are supportive, perhaps he was bullied, but that’s actually pretty “normal” whether it is for being gay, overweight, having a speech impediment, etc. or for just being weird which tends to be common for many artistic type people. He realized his career interest early on, pursued it, was fortunate to get jobs giving him experience in his chosen path which led to him being successful on a huge TV show which led to him realizing his dream job at a relatively young age. Maybe that is the story and is just meant to be informational rather than inspirational as some of them have been.
Shows like VH1 Behind The Music and E’s Hollywood Story basically have the same agenda – and that is to focus more on controversy, drama, sensationalism. Although VH1 is not as blatant as the E story.
The reason why they want Kris on the show is probably to talk about the outcome of the results, why he won and Adam didn’t, and Adam’s post Idol career, etc.
Unfortunately, for Kris, I can see the same old comparisons being drudged up. Just watch. That’s why he should have said no. It’s not something he needs for himself and his career.
I agree that Adam’s rise to where he is now has taken a clear and somewhat normal path, but I actually think that his family’s unconditional love and support that gave Adam the self confidence to have worked his ass off since boyhood is inspirational as well as informative.
What’s not inspirational about working your ass off to make your dreams come true? Realizing what your dreams are, training and working as hard and as much as you can to become the best you can be and achieve your goals. Adam hasn’t talked much about the doors that were closed to him because of his sexuality, but glimpses have been seen like when he talked about stuff before he sang A Change is Gonna Come at his LA show, and from things he’s said in his IGB video, Out indepth interview and even Rolling Stone. Adam just seems to dwell on the positive, it seems to be his nature, but it doesn’t mean he hadn’t struggled or experienced negativity and road blocks he has and continues to have to overcome.
Why would you need Kris to do this? Adam has already spoken to the reasons why he didn’t win.
I do agree since we don’t know what questions were asked, we won’t know in what context his interview will be used. Lizzie was there and I’m sure if she felt the interview was getting into tabloid territory, she would have stopped it.
I didn’t watch it, but this makes me upset to hear. I also wish Kris wasn’t being used to promote Adam on this VH1 thing. I was excited yesterday when I saw that Kris was being interviewed, but that all changed when I found out why.
Adam was part of that whole club and theatre scene in LA long before he got on AI. They knew him and knew of him. Paula, Rickey, and Randy all were aware of him. He had been written about in the LA Times before getting on Idol.
If I’m not mistaken, his dad worked for RCA and was also a DJ. Being gay also plays a part in it, in my opinion, and also based on what I know of the industry.
Bottom line is, I wish Kris would be given his due and not continually used as a pawn.

My guess is that Kris was happy to be interviewed for his friend. I don’t think VH1 pulled him in as a hostile witness, lol, or had to make any behind the scenes deals. Both Adam’s mom and Kris’s mom have said the two are friends—and I choose to believe this. It really isn’t anything unusual. Adam, I’m positive, would be more than happy to return the favor some day.
Because it creates the drama, controversy, sensationalism that these type of shows goes after. And this issue just never seems to go away. And it will bring up the same old same old again. This is not something Kris needs in his career at this point. I doubt for example they will mention the fact that Kris has a platinum single. I also doubt it will be about “Kradam”, since that got blown out of proportion by fan fiction than anything else.

Being a DJ in college is still being a DJ. I’ve read in numerous places that his Dad said he worked for RCA after he graduated college. I have no clue what he does for a living now.
TwigLA, Adams dad was a college DJ somewhere out east, he was hardly part of any big music scene. And, to my knowledge, he has never worked for RCA, nor have I ever heard him mention anything even close to this. That just seems outrageous to me.
Then Kris must have also been promoting Danny, who was often reported to be the 2nd must popular on the Idol tour in as far as audience response and critical reviews. In as far as critical reviews, I think Kris even was behind Allison. But all this is ancient history now. All 3 of the guys are working on this 2nd albums. Better than many who were dropped after their debut.
My thoughts on this whole discussion about Kris’s possible involvement in Adam’s video is that Kris has been a viable part of the music industry for well over a year now. I’m really not a Kris fan (don’t dislike him, just kind of neutral), but if I were, I think I would have to have faith that, by now, he knew what he was doing. Even as a non-fan, I have faith that he knows what he’s doing. I would have difficulty remaining a fan of someone I thought was too weak to hold their own in the industry in which they’re trying to advance. I don’t know all there is to know about Kris, but my impression from the outside looking in is that he’s very laid back but also quite tenacious in his endeavors. He works hard, it appears, and seems to have a lot of dignity about his art. No matter what the content of his interview turns out to be, I can’t buy into the whole “Kris is a pawn” mode of thinking — not now, after having quite a long time to have learned some of the ropes and, at the very least, the media game. I’m sure Kris participated in the interview out of friendship, but I’d also venture to say it was a good promotional stint on his part, too. What’s the harm in some free VH-1 exposure? I’m quite sure he wouldn’t allow himself to be “used” and I really don’t believe that VH-1, who have shown Kris support along the way, would have any reason or inclination to make Kris demean himself in any way to benefit Adam. There’s nothing in that for anyone.
I do feel that the jive label is not a good fit for Kris or Crystal. I am not really big fans of either but I hope both of them can change labels when their contracts are up. That to me is more of an issue for Kris than whether he is on VH-1 on not. RCA was the better label for idols than jive turned out to be. I think obviously UMG is going to be the best label for idols now.
