Idol Worship: Diane Warren Heaps Praise On “Amazing” Adam Lambert

We ran into all sorts of people at Perez Hilton’s birthday party on Saturday night, which was held at famed Los Angeles hot-spot the Viper Room and featured a surprise performance by none other than Christina Aguilera(!), but far more interesting than vapid conversations we had with the likes of Tara Reid was our quick chat with Diane Warren outside on Sunset Boulevard. The veteran songwriter, Perez pal and former Idol guest judge admitted she only recently started tuning in to season 8, but was already fired up about one contestant: Adam Lambert.

American Idol’s Megan and the name game

Were you as shocked as I was that when the results of the American Idol Top 10 Motown performances were announced that the blonde with the tattoo on her arm was safe?

Her enthusiastic, but lamentable, version of Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in My Life” was a “train wreck” according to Randy Jackson (and he’s rarely that critical), while Simon Cowell labeled her singing “atrocious.” So, yes, I was stunned when she wasn’t in the bottom three. By the way, I’m not being insulting by not calling her by her name, I’m just not sure what it is.

Gokey better “Get Ready” for tough battle on “Idol”

While Milwaukee’s Danny Gokey does not seem in danger of being eliminated from the competition tonight on “American Idol,” his status as a favorite/front-runner could be in jeopardy.

On a night when the contestants sang Motown hits, with Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy seated in the audience, Gokey sang “Get Ready.” The tune fit his voice well and Gokey gave an energetic and overall credible effort, but judge Simon Cowell termed it “clumsy and amateurish.”

The other judges were more kind.

Jordin Sparks Ready For Jonas Brothers Romance Rumors

When she heads out on the road with the Jonas Brothers this summer, Jordin Sparks knows there’s a good chance that magazines and gossip sites will romantically link her to at least one of the guys. And she’s just fine with that.

“That is so funny, because I have had so many people tell me that, and I am like, ‘Oh great, here we go,’ ” she told E! News. “It is really funny, but I am ready. … Bring it on!”

Since it’s likely that she’ll be linked to one of the brothers at some point during the trek, Sparks was asked which one she’d like to share a headline with. “I don’t know,” she said. “I think it would be scandalous on either side, because I think Kevin and Joe are taken at the moment and Nick is a lot younger than me.”

Castro Returns To Aggieland

Over the course of eight seasons on television, four words have become familiar in millions of households: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“This is American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

The show has produced famous singers, from Kelly Clarkson à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ the showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s inaugural winner à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ to Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks.

And it was a little more than a year ago on that show, when Jason Castro became a nationally recognized name.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s kind of a long journey, especially early on. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a lot of waiting in line. And there were a lot of times I felt like quitting. • Buckeyegirl

The interview with DC and Ryan was just on, and I think it could not have been live (assume Ryan talked to him when he was here for Idol taping). Just 3 questions: what was it like when you heard yourself on the radio; How is the Declaration Tour going (based on his response, assume this was a taped interview); and then about the blog – he said it was a kneejerk reaction – lesson learned.

A few more glowing frontrunner stories plus fantastic performances plus lazy voters who’re sure he’s safe = shock boot danger zone. Concerns me a little, I’ll admit.

Hah! Glad I’m not the only one thinking that. Stay away from Adam, Diane!
But at least she’s “in the business” and obviously excited about how marketable he is. If she’s sees it, I’m sure plenty of other PTB do too.

I made my first post on Cook’s official website last night. Just a note of encouragement, along with the hundreds of others I’m sure are there now.

ITA we do not need Warren writing some sappy inane pop ballad for Adam! Unless it will go platinum and give him huge exposure…LOL. I take it as a positive that she thinks he is marketable also. I just want Adam to decide what he wants to do at this moment – be a recording/touring SINGER or be a theater star? I think he’s got to decide to be purely a SINGER right now. He should try it! He’s already given the theater thing plenty of time. He can do anything, he just has to decide. And once he’s onstage as a singer, with his own show, I’m sure he will do what he wants to do. Just let us in, Adam! We love ya.

The judges are dialing back their support for Adam a little. Randy named 6 favorites a few days and ago and said anyone could win. Over the weekend, Paula said at the beginning she had said Danny and Adam, but now allison is really good and said it was anybody’s game. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/2009/03/does-paula-abdu.html

You can read into it what you will. I think they realize Adam doesn’t have a shot in hell at winning if he continues to be who he really is. That is a realistic statement considering the Idol audience and who power votes. I don’t think most people really know what we do about Adam. US magazine this week is running a blurb that says “Hiding the Truth”. It is a very glam/dragish/flamoyant picture of Adam from Ring of Fire. They accuse Adam of hiding his sexuality while alerting the public to go online and search for pictures of him in drag kissing another guy. Of course, they claim that EW and LA times have already “outed him” but it’s his decision on whether to out himself on the show. (they say that Kris and Lil talk about their wives, but Adam shockingly hasn’t proclaimed loudly he’s gay.) Ha.

I love that Diane is a fan in that I hope other professionals see his potential and give him a shot. I do believe he is star material but definitely needs help with the right material. So, I hope others are working on that right material.

I think Adam could be in trouble soon. Many people who like him are not power voters. Plus, with all the press he’s gotten who would think he’s in trouble this soon. And finally, I know so many of his fans that take DI as the literal voting numbers and tons and tons of them admitted to me that last week they tried to save Megan and Kris cause Adam didn’t need their votes.

I love Cook so so much. He’s such a great guy and he tells it like it is. I really hope all is well with his family. I have so much respect for them all.

  • Buderschnookie

I just canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wrap my mind around the notion of Adam, talented as he is, singing one of those typical, sappy coronation songs.

Well, at that point he has it won and I’ll bet he’ll have a little something extra prepared :clap_tb:

They are simply dumbing down their headlines in hopes the wretched masses will pay attention. For thinking people I am in contact with it is a non issue, at least if they’re over twelve.

Anoop hasn’t proclaimed himself to even be sexually active and I see no reason to ask one contestant to wear a sign around their neck while ignoring all the others who haven’t “proclaimed” themselves. It isn’t “American Heterosexual”.

And Lil talking about her wife??
    Why she’s just a nasty Lesbian :cool1_tb:

  • undercooked

I’m not even going to bother looking at US Weekly. They know all of the buzz is around Adam and want to get hits on their website. I don’t think Adam is in trouble and he could still win it. People who love music will vote for him regardless. Also, the younger generation is even more tolerant than us GEN Xers and they, I suspect, are the US on line readers. People who don’t vote for him would never buy his records anyway because they are more interested in backstory than talent. After ROF, it was pretty clear he is not your run of the mill guy.

If he doesn’t win, that’s ok as long as he makes the top 3 but the ratings will drop for AI if he isn’t in the final show.

  • Michelle

EW: I couldn’t choose between Lost and AI! They’re two different kinds of shows and both excel exceedingly at their purpose :)

Nice examiner article about Kelly. The girl sings like that, she can be whatever size she wants imo.

  • http://www.popgoesthecamera.com popper

A lot of people said someone like Hicks couldn’t/wouldn’t win either, and we all know how that turned out. :)

I hope Adam’s fanbase is large enough to pull him through.

  • Kylene

You know what I love about AI?

We, as fans, can psych ourselves out about anything or anyone. And everytime we start dissecting things, we can convince ourselves anything about any of them – particularly our favorites.

Two weeks ago, Matt was the dark horse who could upset the TCO apple cart of Gokey and Adam.

Last week, it was Kris and Allison who could challenge Adam, with Gokey left in the dust.

As of this weekend, Matt was all but voted off with Adam crowned without question.

Today, Adam’s in danger, and Allison is the one to watch.

I guess the bottom line is that this show is pretty much anyone’s game (within reason of course…yes, I’m looking at you Megan Joy) just because there are so many factors playing into it – talent vs. commerciability vs. physical attributes vs. nice guy status, not to even mention the voting demographics. At least we’re taking turns!! LOL This is why I have so much time between June and January!

I don’t see where this “in trouble soon” notion is coming from??? I’ve only been a “power voter” once and that was 3 years ago. Adam is the only contestant since then who’s convinced me to pick up the phone and do it again.

Plus even if people did vote for others last week because Adam didn’t *need* their votes, he still managed to finish FIRST, so somebody else must be voting for him in large numbers, not just me.

Just don’t see the need to sound the alarm that he’s in trouble. Not yet anyway.

  • snuffles

I don’t think they’re dialing back their support. I think they’re trying to make it look like a real horse race. If it looks like one contestant is crushing the competition, then why tune in?

  • colette

I like the sound of that GwendolynD. still can’t stir up the enthusiasm for Adam, but I do think the field is wobbly enough this year to make no one a shoe-in, even for the top three.

Now I’m worrying that we’re going to have a Diane Warren Week. She’s written a few I can stand (“Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” only when Cookie sang it). But I think she might be on a similar wavelength with Adam, having written big, histrionic ballads like “How Can I Live,” and stuff for Cher, Celine Dion, etc. No matter how versatile Adam is, I think that’s his future as a recording artist — and one of the reasons he’s not my guy.

  • Natasha

I don’t think Adam’s in any trouble per se but you should never be complacent about things. Hopefully people that like him will pick up the phone.

  • Michelle

Just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see the need to sound the alarm that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in trouble. Not yet anyway.

Alarm? I’d be happy if Adam’s votes fall back a bit, it would give *my* faves a fighting chance. Okay, not really, but at least the ILLUSION that this season isn’t all tied up with a pretty bow already. Nothing more boring than a season that’s just a countdown to a coronation.

eta: unless it’s your fave being crowned, i suppose ;)

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I like the sound of that GwendolynD. still canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stir up the enthusiasm for Adam, but I do think the field is wobbly enough this year to make no one a shoe-in, even for the top three.

This is where I am as far as any of the contestants are concerned.

I still say it’s a week-by-week thing, and it heavily hinges on a combination of performances, performance order, and judges’ comments. Over-invested viewers power vote, but I still say it’s the casual viewer who tips the scale one way or the other. And, I’d love to say Allison’s a lock for Top 3, but she was nearly scraping the bottom of the barrel last week. It could very well take another “Ring of Fire” to have Adam floating somewhere around the middle. What if Danny has a “moment” this week? We just don’t know. We still have more than 1/2 of the Top 13 in the game, so it’s still too early to call it.

Therefore, I think it’s safe to say that everybody’s in trouble.

Joesplace has 3 spoilers for this week. They are from the EW comments but apparently the girl who posted them has done it before and been right every time.

    Here they are:

–Matt stays behond the piano this week with this international hit. But is it too late?
–Adam is also taking his turn at an international hit. He just hopes you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going insane.
–The old Anoop is back, hoping to leave the ladies all hot and bothered.

According to these, it looks like Matt is singing Apologize (not surprising), Adam is singing Disturbia (also not surprising), and I’m not sure about Anoop (someone on IDF suggested Sexyback… lol).

  • BootStar

Could that spoiler for Adam be Knarls Barkley’s “Crazy”? (Have no idea what constitutes an international hit.) Because that would be AWESOME.

  • star

Adam’s could potentially be “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, or it might also be “Bleeding Love”…it was definitely an international hit, and the lyric goes, “and everyone’s looking round thinking I’m going crazy…”

I don’t think Adam’s in any danger. IMO, the show is putting out all kinds of TCO vibes about him. But with that said, I’m going to keep voting as much as possible.

Adam, please run like hell from Diane Warren. Kthanx!!

The day kicked off early, as Jason joined old friends from the Aggie Menà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Club in helping to clean up the Lincoln Community Center as part of A&Mà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s annual Big Event.

Armed with a sponge, Castro was immediately put to work, scrubbing a dirty wall in a corner of the building.

And though most American Idol stars probably wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be found on their hands and knees at 9 a.m. on a Saturday, Castro seemed to take joy in the job, humming as he went along.

“It’s the chance for all of us that are here visiting, you know going to school here temporarily, to give back to the surrounding community that’s here all the time. Maybe they don’t have the resources that our university has, so it’s great to get to come out and help out,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Castro said.

This is where I am as far as any of the contestants are concerned.

Me too. Anything can happen at this point. I like a lot of the contestants and some of them do impress me each week. For me, I think Adam is probably the most talented of the bunch, but he isn’t always my favorite each week (although he definitely was this week).

Since you bitches voted out my good pal Sarver, I’m going to have to find someone new to vote for this week. Perhaps it will be Adam, perhaps it will be Anoop….. or someone else. I’ll let what they do Tuesday night make up my mind. I am a fickle and disloyal fan LOL.

(You guys know I’m kidding with the bitches thing right? I’m almost never serious about this cheesy show :lol_wp:)

Over-invested viewers power vote, but I still say ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the casual viewer who tips the scale one way or the other.

This is my theory as well. The numbers are too far in the favor of the casual viewer. There’s probably one million of them for every 2 hour power voter.

    Jason is just so cool!!

DWTS has been full of surprises this year. I haven’t gotten the right answer yet for the pool.

I am happy to see Jordin Sparks doing so well. She was not my favorite, but she seems like a nice girl and deserves these chances.

  • frogcooke

^^ Jordin is awesome, so its great to see her doing great

Very nicely done – thanks Frogcooke! Also heard that David was on in a segment of tonight’s Inside Edition… he was being interviewed on the KCA orange carpet? and Chris Rock walked by, interrupted the interview to shake his hand, while telling him he was a fan…. Goes a ways in dispelling that “whitebread” tag some have tried to attach to David! LOLOL… Chris Rock is as “urban” and edgy as they come, and if he digs David, dude must have some mad skillz! :smoke_tb:

Thanks Frogcooke for posting the TV guide spot. Nice.

    Aww, that’s cute. And Chikezie!!!

Chris Rock walked by, interrupted the interview to shake his hand, while telling him he was a fan

    Haha, that’s awesome.

  • hermy

aw, I didn’t know Chikezie was hosting on tv. Good for him!

  • Jabkmc

Awww! Chikezie! I never realized, but he’s got a pretty good “narrator” voice.

  • IGetCranked

I’m thrilled for Chikezie! I always thought he had a great personality. This type of thing suits him well!

Very cool about Chris Rock! That is surprising to me the same as the JLo Marc Anthony thing… I just never thought of them as the friendly type.

  • frogcooke

Yeah that type of thing definately suits Chikezie! It was cool to see him again in that vid.

Archidorable McArchipants David Archuleta, fresh off the U.S. leg of his tour, accepted the Favorite Reality Show award on behalf of American Idol along with Paula Abdul, who OF COURSE interrupted him AND scared the crap out of me in what looked like costume castaways from a performance of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Disturbia.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Seriously, what WAS that?)

DC is going to be at the Race for Hope benefiting the National Brain Tumor Society on May 3rd. Bet that will mean a lot to him.

Thanks for posting this Trina :) This is right in my neighborhood so I can support a great cause and see David Cook at the same time – win win!
