Today at The Grove in Hollywood: Steven Tyler and Aerosmith will appear at 12:00-12:30 p.m. for an interview and Season 9 Idol, Siobhan Magnus will appear at to arrive at 3:30 p.m.

Haley Reinhart guests on VH1 Buzz this morning at 10 am.

This Year, It’s ‘Idol’ Chasing the Voice – By the ostensible logic of the show, he made the right decision, choosing Ms. Parker to progress to the next round, the live competition. But you could sense Mr. Levine’s struggle: a big part of him wanted to go the other way. He was the winning coach last year, thanks to his student Javier Colon, but Mr. Levine knows perfectly well that despite the show’s conceit, a voice is not in fact enough. Too bad nobody told that to the decision makers on “American Idol” this season, who appear to have all but abandoned their search for a general-interest pop star in favor of a set of finalists with distinctive — probably too distinctive — voices. It’s as if, unnerved by the breakaway success of “The Voice,” “Idol” has opted to import what it perceived to be its competitor’s advantage — choosing voices over people — without realizing that the decisions should go the other way. – Read more at The New York Times

American Idol Rocker Erika Van Pelt. Former Pageant Girl? – American Idol’s most recent castoff Erika Van Pelt quickly became known as this season’s resident rocker-chick – so we were pretty shocked to find out that the 26-year-old former DJ was actually a finalist in the Miss Rhode Island Pageant. “No one really knows about that,” she said. “I certainly don’t seem the type. I have tattoos, I like to dye my hair, I used to have piercings.” Watch the Video at SeattlePI

‘American Idol’ Alum Haley Reinhart Rooting for Jessica Sanchez on Season 11- “I mean, ever since I saw Jessica Sanchez in the um, it might’ve even been before Vegas or it might’ve been Vegas,” Reinhart says. “I don’t know, either way, when I saw [Sanchez], I knew that chick was something special. She’s got the whole package. She’s got a huge voice and she’s so young! I can’t believe it. They all have great voices so it’s gonna be tough — you never know what can happen — but I see a lot of careers for them in the future.” – Read more at Popcrush

Clay Aiken Disses Rihanna, Reveals Plastic Surgery – The “American Idol” alum was a guest on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen last night, where he got brutally honest about the current state of pop music during a game of “Plead the Fifth.” When asked which pop singer today wouldn’t make it past the first round of auditions on “American Idol,” Aiken was taken aback … because, according to him, it’s too hard to pick just one! “There’s too many, I’ve stopped listening to them because they can’t sing” he said, before ultimately deciding on Rihanna … because she has “some pitch problems.” – Read more at Too Fab

I’m pretty sure that “distinctive voices” is a good thing, and something that is good for ratings.  Not all of these distinctive voices will be welcomed by fans of mainstream pop music, but who cares, AI is about the ratings first, and not at all about the post show prospects of the contestants.  Besides, these distinctive voices can find success in other genres besides pop.

Thanks Jon Caramanica, from the New York Times, for showcasing as to why exactly the music industry is rotten right now. Yeah, Raelynn is awful, but she is  will be just like Taylor Swift (who is also awful) in catering to the demographic. Forget the short, multi-racial, unconventional handsome Bruno Mars with the puffy hair, or the plump, unconventional pretty Adele, who can outsing most of the industry, and still continue to rock the top 40 album and single charts.

This is a guy who found Kris Allen inferior, but yet thinks Phillip Phillips is marketable, but oh, has not found his appeal. Hmm, I wonder why, because he is just not very good?

Articles like this makes me so frustrated. But yeah, he said a nice shout out to Elise, Joshua and even freaking Deandre, who hardly gets any buzz. So that dialed down my anger a smidge.

  • CSFan

Oh gosh, people have sworn up and down for a long while that Clay headwork done on his face. His fans have denied it as fiercely as they used to deny the gay thing and BOOM–Clay admits it. A side by side picture comparison made it obvious Clay had gone under the knife in various ways.

Holy cow. The NYT guy thinks there are too many “distinctive voices” on Idol this year, yet all we hear around here all day is how generic and boring and uncreative they all are. LOL. You just can’t win.

Reminds me of the MTV guy who complained that the only “relevant” contestant this year were Colton and Eben. Right. SMH.

I’m just finding these Idol bloggers/critics more and more insufferable. If that guy was a record exec., I would HATE the music industry more. Ugh! I can’t even go back to Yahoo! music, because that Matt guy who does a video recap with Lindsay Parker is infuriating to listen to. These bloggers are just, I dunno, just getting harder to read.

“Mansion” and David Cook just doesn’t compute – and looking at the house – very nice, but nothing spectacular – realize that it’s the location that ups the price not the house.

  • http://twitter.com/bluinjewin Landon Cox

Slezak/Jim/Leo are the only credible ones and even they play favorites

  • CSFan

As far as the idol bloggers and critics, no matter what idol did or the type of contestants chosen, whatever wasn’t done would be what they were ripped on for. If they’d gone for distinctive personalities over vocals then that would have been the knock. It’s no win for AI. LOL

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

I don’t even understand that NYT article. First the writer says that The Voice is choosing more relevant people *because* they choose people (packages) over voices but then goes on to point out that last season’s winner and runner up sold miserably. Is he suggesting that those two contestants were more voice than personality? And what about Scotty, who has sold better, is he more packaging than voice?

I don’t get it…why aren’t people here screaming what a douche Clay is for speaking his mind and dissing Rihanna?  Is it only certain Idols that are not allowed to have opinions and diss other performers but Clay can?

  • Anonymous

Rihanna may have pitch problems singing live as Clay says, but she sounds fabulous on her recordings.  IMO, she has a great tone that sets her apart from just about everyone. Her success totally makes sense to me.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

So Idol gets blasted for being too generic and now it is getting blasted for putting through singers with voices that are too distinctive?  Something is wrong with this picture.  Then again, any article that is basically arguing that somebody like Eben should have been put through to make Idol more mainstream loses credibility with me right there.  He seems like a lovely kid, but he was not ready for this and his inclusion would have been difficult to watch.

I have nothing against The Voice. It is what it is. But of the remaining contestants on both shows, generally speaking I’d rather listen to most of the “distinctive” voices on the Idol stage. Give or take a few obviously.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I really don’t think that Rihanna’s fans care what Clay thinks about her (or anything).  Plus, I don’t think that Clay realizes that “pitch problems” no longer prevent an Idol contestant from advancing or even winning.  lol  As for the plastic surgery, I think that Clay has had more done than he’s willing to admit.  ;)

I thought that the opening part of this article was funny.  lol

    Clay Aiken Slams Rihanna
I would say YOU IN DANGER GIRL!, but this is Clay Aiken. The Aiken, looking plucked/pulled and spray painted with foundation, was on “Watch What Happens Live.”

“If they’d gone for distinctive personalities over vocals then that would have been the knock.”

Very True. He thinks Eben and Baylie Brown should be in the finals….really? LOL. I continued reading after that for pure laughs. This guy is definitely a fan of the Voice.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

Bingo. I think Idol is at a place where it is uncool with a lot of the media, and it will get slammed no matter what they do. There is no way to win that game.

Which is not to say there is no room to criticize Idol. There is lots to complain about. Its just a lot of the stuff coming from the media lately doesn’t even make sense.

I swear sometimes I think people have nostalgia for a show that never existed.

ETA: And what is this fascination with Eben these folks have? He is not Justin Beiber, he is all Greyson Chance. Who really thinks he’s a tween star? Oh brother.

I think that it’s funny and a play by Clay for publicity.  I don’t think that anyone cares though.  lol  I’ve long thought that Clay is a douche, so this diss isn’t a surprise to me at all.  It’s right in character.  lol

I don’t even think that Eben’s as edgy as Greyson.  ;)  I saw Eben as a Broadway/Disney type, and the furthest thing from a Bieber type (except for the hair).

That NYT writer has never been much of an Idol fan. I agree with him that this year’s Idol contestants may not be the most marketable in terms of mainstream pop success — Jessica and maybe Deandre and the only two I really see possibly being true pop artists. But there’s nothing wrong with having a bunch of distinctive voices on the show — that’s much better than having a bunch of contestants who all sound alike or who don’t have their own distinctive styles. I would guess that most of the S11 Top 10 will go on to have some sort of career in the music industry — just like most of the contestants on The Voice will likely do so. But the possibility of either of these shows producing a big star is even less now than it would have been in the past — and even then it was always a fairly long odds than anyone off these shows would blow up and become a huge star. It’s really sort of amazing that a few of them have actually managed to do that.

  • Incipit

“Then he’s clearly risen to his level of incompetency.”

Hah! I must say – nice to see The Peter Principle casually tossed into the conversation – and yes, yes he has. *snerk*

  • Anonymous

I saw that article in today’s NYTimes and I kind of agree with it. The group is a little zzzz and lacking in the XF so to speak.  The kids this season are nice but I can only see Jessica and Hollie doing Disney type music. Maybe Colton/P2 doing more HAC stuff. So another season where nobody from Idol gets played on Top 40. Not that that is the end of the world but it kind of reduces the show’s excitement factor.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I think what he was going for is that there are not enough people with star quality on this season, or people with pop potential, that they concentrated too much on good voices, or something like that.

My problem with that is that I do think Hollie, Phillip, Skyar and Heejun have charisma, and that Jessica has plenty of confidence and swagger, and that Jessica, Hollie, Sklyar and Deandre all have potential in a mainstream music market with some development. And that Elise has potential with a slightly more adult market. But that’s just my opinion.

But more than that, early Idol did not cast for looks, there would be 2 or 3 conventionally good looking people and that is it. And it was also never loaded with pop singers before that. Maybe the first season, but after that no. That didn’t start until around season 7. Until then there are only a few pop types every year. But still like clockwork we hear bitching about how Idol should go back to finding pop stars. All the pop stars came from the era when Idol wasn’t looking blatantly looking for them. Also, the kind of people he’s talking about were put through to the top 24, but some of them were not voted through. So how is that the judges fault? Were they supposed to put people who utterly failed at singing back in because they “would have” gotten votes? Has he never seen this show before? Dumb.

  • Chris

Agree. Rihanna can sing just about anything now and get more views in a week on YouTube than Clay could dream. Pitchy or not. In the end, becoming famous and selling music can has very little to do with who has the best voice. Its luck combined with who is ready when the opportunity strikes.

  • Anonymous

He conveniently overlooked those contestants to support his half baked theories.  And P2 as the most marketable of the bunch? *snort*.  I don’t understand how The Voice contestants he name checked are any more marketable than Jessica, Hollie, Skylar and Deandre.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

Am I the only one surprised that David Cook owned a 1.5 million dollar house?  Wow!

And it’s his second one. He has another in Missouri, but, despite the wine cellar it purportedly has, I’m doubting it’s worth 1.5 million mostly because I’m guessing real estate values are a bit less in the mid west. That being said, I agree with a previous poster, this LA house is clearly very, very nice but not a mansion.

  • Anonymous

“I swear sometimes I think people have nostalgia for a show that never existed.”

About 99 percent of all nostalgia is for things that never existed, as far as i can tell. heh

Idol nostalgia definitely no exception to this rule

  • Chris

I think he is nuts. Worst season potential is a strong statement especially given S9. (No offense intended, just talking potential for converting an Idol into sales $) Jessica has picked up a huge global following – the IWALY had crazy views for this early in the competition. Even if she losses, she should sell more than 146k albums. Unless she tanks, she should have a shot.

Clearly, David Cook’s house is just a “house” here in California – not a “mansion” for heaven’s sake! LOL … kinda typical, actually. Looks like a house in my neighborhood and it’s just your average, nice CA neighborhood.  I’ll be curious if he gets anything near 1.5 mil for that. I’d be surprised, actually.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

I’ll be curious if he gets anything near 1.5 mil for that. I’d be surprised, actually.

I’m no real estate expert, but I live in Washington DC — another very pricey place — and many homes go for just that amount in the better neighborhoods. So, I’m not shocked at all by the asking price.

  • Valentin432

JON CARAMANICA has been writing about the show for a long time. He was on Cantiello’s post or pre show last year (too bad Jim went to X Factor, I liked those).
He has very controversial opinions compared to Slezak, Cantiello and others who seem to agree on a lot of things.

I think he’s trying to explain the decrease in ratings and the dynamics between The Voice and Idol, but it’s not the right season to use the “not enough pop stars” card because there is/was many more pop singers this year than most of the other seasons.

  • Anonymous

“Am I the only one surprised that David Cook owned a 1.5 million dollar house?  Wow!”

I’m not surprised. Forbes said he made over 5 million the year after he won Idol (Idol winner’s prize, 150 sold out concerts, Skechers endorsement deal, 1.3 million albums, 2 plat and 1 gold singles), and then something like 3 million the year after that. It’s lean times now, perhaps, but he is a VERY smart guy who has always said in interviews that he knew that the ride could come to an abrupt end. I’m sure he invested wisely.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

Yeah, a million five won’t get you much of a mansion in many areas of Toronto either. :) And yeah, we have some really weird pricing downtown for condos and what not.  My youngest son has a tiny condo downtown and the price per square foot is kind of mind-boggling.

  • Anonymous

I live in Vancouver, and that same house (definitely not a mansion) would go for 1.5 to 2 million, easy. Location, location, location. My house is the exact same size, just over 3000 sf, and absolutely nothing fancy, and you would not believe how much it is worth. It is RIDICULOUS!

  • Anonymous

Oh I wasn’t surprised at the price of David Cook’s house in California, I know the houses there are high priced, but he’s not from California, right?  I was surprised that he could afford a house like that in California in the first place.  He obviously made a decent amount of money post-Idol, that’s what impressed me.

  • Nele621

I’m surprised Cook would be selling a house now when prices are at an all-time low. He has to be losing money on this. Maybe he can’t justify owning a house in LA/Hollywood cuz he’s rarely there?

  • Anonymous

    Can’t stand Jon Carimanica.

  • Anonymous

Maybe its different in Vancouver, but housing prices in the US have fallen dramatically since Cook won Idol.  While it may be priced right in the neighborhood its in, it’s no doubt worth a LOT less than what he bought it for (unless he got a steal on it), especially here in California.

  • Anonymous

He bought it for 1.3 million and is asking 1.5 million. Hopefully he can at least break even, or even make a bit.

  • Anonymous

I’m just lol’ing at 3,000 SF being called a “mansion”.  The smallest house in my neighborhood is that size.

It is a nice house though, and David has very good taste.  Also, I think Cook and I might have the exact same outdoor seating set.  I should tweet him to ask where he got his :).

  • Nele621

There have been many pitchy finalists and even winners on AI. What Rihanna has is the IT factor in spades, which many AIers don’t have. Clay has never been known to be very PC.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick kesia monteith

LOL ain’t that the truth. ;)

  • Incipit

curly_yenta, a house in the Hollywood Hills isn’t typical for all LA neighborhoods – and yes, there are some distortions – a view of the Hollywood Sign isn’t all that hard to come by, for starters. One of my kids lived there – and had a smashing view of the sign – from Los Feliz..with the Griffith Observatory almost in his backyard. Heh.

The real distortion is calling a three bedroom home perched on the hillside of Laurel Canyon a “Mansion”, as you pointed out -  Even with a state-of-the-art recording studio – Please. As someone said (paraphrase) ‘David Cook and ‘mansion’ just don’t go together.’

As to real estate prices – I had reason to be looking at prices lately in Massachusetts, near Lexington and Concord – plenty of homes that ran in that same range – as always – it’s the location…and the state of the market – which is ‘up’ in the upscale neighborhoods, right now. Nothing is staying on the market for long at all. That price doesn’t seem at all outrageous to me.

  • Anonymous

What Rihanna has is the IT factor in spades, which many AIers don’t have.

I think what she has that they usually don’t is some very radio friendly songs.  People can put down current music, but this is not something that’s new, throughout history catchy songs have always trumped whether or not someone is a great singer.

  • Anonymous

I think what surprised me with David Cook is, I haven’t been in the Idol bubble or following this stuff all that long (only about a year really), and often times posters on here make it sound like certain Idols were/are a flop if they aren’t selling as well as some other Idols, and I’m starting to realize that what some people consider a flop is what I would consider quite successful.  So not having followed David post-Idol and reading some of the posts about him, I somehow got the impression that he wasn’t doing too well (or wasn’t as successful as he should have been).

  • Anonymous

I have to agree with others here. Rihanna may be pitchy when she is singing live, but she has a beautiful and truly unique recording voice. And let’s face it, that is 99.9% of our experience with her voice. I will probably never see her live, but I almost always enjoy listening to her on the radio or on my Ipod. This isn’t even factoring in her charisma and beauty (I’ll leave her taste in men out of the equation).

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

I think what she has that they usually don’t is some very radio friendly songs.

That New Yorker article called it right. It’s a song making machine. Plus, a promo machine enhanced by a salacious private life and absolutely no druthers about using it.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick kesia monteith

The media dissed this season’s dancing with the stars, saying it was one of the most bland cast yet. I mean, it is the only season for me where I actual know who everyone is! And yet, once the first episode, “oh such a great season, one of the best”.

The pop culture media will continue to trash talent shows (and sometimes I don’t blame them), but they enjoy paying attention to no talent hacks such as the Kardashians or anyone fron the Real Housewives.

I’m just responding to what Clay said about Rihanna not being able to get past the first round on AI. Many on AI made it way past the first round with their pitchiness, and even w/o the IT factor.

    I hear yah thirdtime.

Cook’s first Era was actually really successful – he had the 12th or 13th highest selling album of that year, and his was one of only 19 to hit Platinum. And probably most significantly, his album remained on the BB200 list for almost an entire year.

For sure this album era has not been a roaring success, but IMO, 3 years after his AI win, with an extremely low media profile, no buzz, and without a decent lead single and radio presence, 46,000 in first week sales is nothing to be sneezed at. That is PURE fanbase sales, and a good foundation for potential future success. If he had had a successful lead single those numbers would probably have been a lot higher. And plenty of musicians would be happy to have the over 100,000 in album sales that he has. I still think he is one great song away from hitting it big again, but then I am one of those 50,000 strong uberfans.

This Adam video is cute.  It says as seem on Home Planet.  What is Home Planet?

  • Anonymous

It’s a fan run web site. They are very funny and snarky.

  • Anonymous

Well I for one am massively disappointed that the UK Sonisphere has been canceled which means no Adam singing with Queen. I assume they will still do the Russia concert. Hopefully they will still be able to do a Queen concert in the UK somewhere. Maybe another venue will pick it up.

  • Anonymous

Oh Damn! That totally sucks about Sonisphere! That would have been EPIC and I was looking forward to the youtubes. Poor Adam must be so disappointed. I hope he does another big concert with Queen instead, as there is obviously a huge demand for it.

  • Incipit

“Well I haven’t researched the property as well as you (apparently you have the street address?).”

No research necessary, curly_yenta, that link posted was to a realtor.com blog. The actual listing links from it – and everything is right there on the listing page…even the tax information. I was a little taken aback to see the street address – but logic says – if that’s out there in public, then David would be elsewhere.

Besides – he always says how messy he is – and that place looks “private showing ready”. Even the studio. Heh.

Gotta say – love the landscaping – Fountain! Courtyard! Officially jealous of those. *snerk*

Hey girl! I’m in DC too and work in real estate, albeit on the commercial side of things. The value of Cookie’s house is definitely in the land, plus the recording studio I’d bet.

Also I thought I was the only one who watched Idol still in this city haha

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

Well, the Moscow concert with Queen is a big concert. It is independent of Sonisphere so I am sure it will go on. And as we know, Moscow promoters pay well.
I am still betting that Queen does their own show somewhere in the UK, maybe even at Knebworth! The site is available now!

  • Valentin432

Sonisphere is cancelled? I can’t believe an event of this size is in trouble, that’s a bad sign for the festivals this summer.

  • Anonymous

It all depends on where you live as to the price of a house.  Mine is 3400 sq. ft., 4 bedrooms and 4 baths and only worth 1/3 of that.

  • jan

Actually the street address was public information 2 years ago. I remember reading the address from realtor website right after he bought it. I know many other fans knew the address from the same website – but I’ve never heard of David being harassed at home. So there would be no reason for him to move.

The home does look very nice and ready to show. I’m sure that realtor stagers were brought in for the photographs.

  • k4dc

I wonder why DC is selling his house?

  • Anonymous

As biased as he is, Slezak is one of the only places worth reading now.

I know many other fans knew the address from the same website – but
I’ve never heard of David being harassed at home. So there would be no
    reason for him to move.

I think he may have had some problems because, as I understand it, he had that fence built around his property.

  • Anonymous

I can definitely see a lot of these kids being successful whether it be top 40 or another genre. I think Hollie can be molded into a pop singer as can Jessica. Skylar has a great voice for country music. People didn’t think Scotty would do well, and now he is platinum.

  • Anonymous

He once spoke about finding a fan in his backyard with a knife, hence the fence. And he’s a pretty private guy so it wouldn’t surprise me if there were more incidents that we dont know about.

  • Nele621

Cook had 150 sold out concerts? Didn’t realize that. Goes to show how fame/popularity is so fleeting in such a short period of time.

  • Anonymous

Hard to say, there hast been any real confirmation, yet.  There are people saying that it’s actually one of two other concerts that is canceled.  So it’s all just rumors flying around at this point.  Supposedly there is going to be an announcement tomorrow. Honestly, I would have thought one of the many bands scheduled would have said something by now.

  • Incipit

So sorry to read that Sonicsphere is canceled – there was so much anticipation for that! Bummer for the fans, for sure.

For anyone in the Worcester MA area, Haley continues radio promo tomorrow with a XLO Music Loft visit.  http://fb.me/1AkAtFZfT

  • Anonymous

I just read an article about Sonisphere, it said the tickets have already been withdrawn from their site and it’s being cancelled due to lack of sales.  It sounds like a pretty sure thing.  That’s a shame that there isn’t enough interest anymore to see so many of those bands.  And a shame for Adam.

  • Anonymous

One can’t help but be biased when it comes to music.    Adele has sold about 20 trillion albums or so – yet, there are people out there who don’t like her style of music.

So, if Slezak loves Haley Reinhart, he is likely to like most of what she does….regardless of what others may think.     However, I do think he is also fair – he was very fair in his critique of “You Oughtta Know”, for example.

He is still the best of the best, in my mind, when it comes to reviewing Idol as a whole.

  • jan

Interesting – I didn’t know that. I assumed the fence was for Dublin. Nevertheless – we don’t know if he has moved out already – LOL, or maybe someone does know. It looks like his furniture in the pictures.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I feel like Slezak is one of the few who actually watches the show, like for real watches it, and has for years. So he doesn’t write things based on his vague opinion of what really happened in the past. Even if I don’t always agree with him, I do have to admit he’s grounded in the show’s history so his opinion is at least informed. He knows Idol inside and out.

Nele, Cook did ~150 concerts but not all of them were sold out. A lot were, but not all.

  • jan

DC could be selling house for any number of reasons. Maybe he is moving elsewhere in LA. Maybe he will be moving into the home he also owns in Missouri. Maybe he is relocating elsewhere for music – New York, Nashville.

  • http://twitter.com/ljrTR LJR

Wonder why Cookie is leaving L.A.  – because he’s aware his career has bottomed out? advance word on label dropping him? friends not working with him anymore?
on the other hand, maybe he’s found a nice girl and he’s going to settle down in Missouri, do work in graphic design. course that would be a waste of a wonderful voice & great performer…

  • iani

Oh man, DC is in the news Celebuzz for salling his house? The house  he was so happy like 3 years ago during his tour, and about his studio too(I want my studio-album from his studio, damn it)?!. Nice, “clean”, modern house, good simple decor-taste in those pictures. Oh well, maybe 80% of the population have life-adjustments, he is no exception. Hopefully everything will work well for him in the future.

LOl, to NYT article; I’ve tried to find his bio like a year ago because  his name is the only one I can get it right without even checking it back, lol, Mr. Ion Caramanica( Ion=Jon); we have even jockes like “Ion upside-down). I don’t like him either, but I might understand he wants to be  Jon upside-down to others’ views(Slezack, Cantiello) for the snobbish POVs of him and the newspaper’s too to make a living from. He might be a candidate of the most disliked critic, but I like his twists and turns ideas sometimes.

  • Nele621

I was just responding to this post:

Forbes said he made over 5 million the year after he won Idol (Idol winner’s prize, 150 sold out concerts, Skechers endorsement deal, 1.3 million albums, 2 plat and 1 gold singles), and then something like 3 million the year after that.

I highly doubt Cook would give up his music career (in response to another post).

  • Nele621

I hope Erika goes back to her original hairstyle. Even tho there are many blonds, she looks better with her long blond hair.

  • Incipit

Heh. LJR, that’s a might bit previous. The house is for sale – doesn’t mean David is leaving LA. We have no idea what it means, except, the house is for sale.

The rest is speculation. We are good at speculation, though. *snerk*

And as of March 19th, his friends are still working with him – he’s been writing and recording with them right along…I have no idea where that one comes from. Zac Maloy, Kevin Griffin, other people who wrote with him on DCTR and TLM are still working with him now.

    >>AndySkib – Good studio session today with @TheRealDevinB &
    Marathon Man @thedavidcook….

IDK about the ‘nice girl’ lol. That one remains to be seen.

Slezak is definitely one of the best Idol interviewers, for sure. He writes some of the best reviews too, but sometimes I feel like he takes Idol a little TOO seriously.

Jon Caramanica.. is he the guy who hated Kris and Adam during S8, while his favorite was Gokey? (google jon caramanica kris allen..) Oh, yeah he is. =P I remember Jim Cantiello had him on Idol Party Live one time last year and the fans were like WTFISWRONGWITHYOUJIM?! He probably likes to stir up trouble and just says the opposite of what everyone else thinks.

  • http://twitter.com/bluinjewin Landon Cox

Ken Barnes is pretty bad too, he compared a potential Haley win during her rise circa top 5/4 week to the disaster of Lee proportions. Also I think he hated on Allison and Kris as well.

  • Anonymous

I’m hoping cookie isn’t leaving California and that he’s just making some wise financial decisions given his current situation. I do like having him in my state, albeit 90 miles away. Hasn’t happened yet, but I DO like there being even the tiniest of chances that he and I will be filling up at the same gas station on the odd chance that I run out of fuel near Hollywood.

  • Anonymous

Yeah Slezak continues to be a fan of the show and is one of the few bloggers who doesn’t try to act like the Voice*cough*Lindsey Parker*cough*Rickey or X Factor*cough*Richard Rushfield*cough* are the best things since sliced bread.

Another tool in the blog world is that MTV guy-I think his last name was Kaufman? Saying that The X Factor and The Voice will actually create superstars while idol is just bringing blonde Mariah wannabes? LOL.

  • Indigobunting

“Jon Caramanica.. is he the guy who hated Kris and Adam during S8, while his favorite was Gokey? (google jon caramanica kris allen..)”

Actually Jon Caramanica is a very well respected music reviewer for the NYT.  He didn’t care for Adam’s album that much, but he gave both Kris and Danny good reviews on their albums (good review for Jon, lol- he is a very tough critic and quite snarky ;)  ).  He gave Crystal Bowersox a really nice review I thought.

I happened to notice he was featured on videos talking about music stars when I visited the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame….so I do believe he is a ‘name’ in the world of music critics.

Beachwood Canyon is a  pricey area of L.A. — I would say that the majority of the houses would sell for over $1 million.

I don’t know if Nigel is serious, or just trolling with this tweet:

Okay Madonna fans tonight you’ve got Jessica, Holly and Skylar singing “Like A Prayer” “Borderline” and “Express Yourself” on #IDOL. Thanks.

If this is true, I don’t think that Nigel fully understood the complaints that were made about last week’s show.

    Hi Everyone

OK!’ It’s Idol chasing the Voice’? I understand that to mean that this season’s AI is soley concentrating on irrelevant distinctive voices; and has abandon everything else including the making of a star. Hmmm!

As I no longer watch AI since season 8 and have never watched the Voice. But  I go by what my family tells me; and I quote their views, ‘ These shows are no longer relevant its just for reality show lovers… Just go underground you will find a great star’.

Well they might have a point. But Mr Caramanica may have tapped into something we already know that singing  competitions no longer carry a lot of weight as it use to. Even if the Voice is looking for something more than a great singing voice; as he said Javier and the other contestant did not reap the rewards! the judges did. If thats the case why dont the judges have a reality show purposely for past singers who want to become relevant again and sell their wares on their own shows. Well that would be a revalation! Who will we vote for?

For me AI have never been about finding a pop star its about finding a ‘safe Pop star’ that can sell records-or can they still do so? Sometimes its timing!

I know that a distinct voice has to be relevant to the times or Era. I imagine someone like Adele winning The voice but I cannot see her winning AI. Why? AI’s format while not obvious at first they want you to fit into a chosen format created just for you most of the time and this is a major problem for many artists.

So in the end what ever the show or the format, the aim is always to find a star. But today  what many contestants gain from these shows is just a temporary exposure. Surely they should be thinking of a smart plan B. i.e.Films/Plays/Writers/Entrepreneurs that connects with their talent.

Also great marketing merged with some talent can put you on the map. Ask 1 Direction!

    Thanks

    Regards

    B-babie

Wait, are they going to sing 2 songs or Nigel changed the theme out of the blue?

Oh, nevermind. He just posted now.

A trio?  Do we get Heejun, Phillip and Joshua singing Like a Virgin, Material Girl and Papa Don’t Preach?

  • Anonymous

Hollie singing one of Carrie’s songs should be interesting.  I hope she picked an up beat one, but not Before He Cheats.  That song is hard to sing, because it always comes off like the singer is trying to impersonate Carrie.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

Confused.  None of the idols have hinted at having more than one number tonight.  At first I thought Nigel was just trolling with the Madonna tweet, but the later one about their actual choices seems to be spot on with what was expected.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

I don’t get this show anymore — or maybe I get that they are bound and determined to promote Interscope every which way they can.  Stevie is with Interscope, so they have her as a mentor while three of the girls sing a medley of songs by … Madonna. Not Stevie Nicks, but Madonna? This is like Bizarro American Idol.

  • iani

I don’t understand either; it’s like forget RCA the idol-label (or other labels), hello Interscope the idol-helper/label. At least there was no “face” of RCA on TV.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

I don’t understand either; it’s like forget RCA the idol-label (or other labels), hello Interscope the idol-helper/label.

Didn’t the press coverage at the time of the switchover to Universal as the “tied-in” major label say that there was going to be much more label involvement than there had been with RCA? I vaguely remember us all speculating about what that would mean; certainly I came nowhere near guessing correctly.

When Sony had the “first dibs” contract, were the mentors largely with Sony labels? I know they weren’t all with RCA itself, as I remember mentors who were definitely Arista or Epic types; but I’ve never tried to do a count myself. (And I’m not volunteering, as a simple recap of historic sites and exciting restaurants in Southern Arizona is turning into an all-day-to-write multi-part saga, and that’s with omitting 90% of it.)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/IKAPTNAJ2NDD2P5QWGFWGEY6ME Mary

A knife! Wow that’s scary. I bought and love both of David’s records. But apparently I don’t keep up enough. I didn’t even know he had a house in California. Pretty house though. I do remember him buying one in Missouri after he won Idol.

  • Anonymous

I hope you’re wrong because I can’t deal with another uneventful season of Idol. My faves keep singing ballads though so yeah…One finally went upbeat and was trashed for it.(Whether or not anyone thinks that is was deserved is irrelevant. Steven’s tude was out of line. IMO)He probably won’t be doing another upbeat too anytime soon as a result. :/ I’ve noticed that Idol seasons following ones where I found a singer I really love sometimes tend to be lackluster in comparison. As strong as this group is no one(At the moment. Things could change.)is giving me “I’m gonna stan so hard for you for the rest of the year and beyond!!” vibes. But maybe that’s a good thing. I can only faithfully follow so many of my faves. I’m just barely keeping up with all of the Haley news as of late.

As for your statement about it being “Another season where nobody from Idol gets played on Top 40…”I think Haley’s music has a very good shot at being played on Top 40, but I’m a biased fan so what do I know? lol “Free” apparently has no clear radio market anyway. *CoughHACWithPossibleTop40Cough* Oh look…The same markets that Kris is shooting for with “The Vision Of Love”. Well I’ll be. And Adam was played on Top 40 too. Hmm…Or are you only talking about AI9 and AI10 with a bit of AI7? If so sorry. My opinion on Haley’s(And Kris’s)potential radio play stands though. lol Not sure about folks from AI11′s future at radio, but who knows?

I saw Clay Aiken reveal on Live TV that he had plastic surgery for his temporomandibular joint (the joint of the jaw). According to Aiken, he wanted to remove the fat out of his chin. After looking at his before and after photos, I noticed the evenness of his face. Plastic surgery went well, I guess. It definitely went okay. I just hope the surgery won’t affect his singing.
