Haley Reinhart guests on VH1 Buzz this morning at 10 am.

This Year, It’s ‘Idol’ Chasing the Voice – By the ostensible logic of the show, he made the right decision, choosing Ms. Parker to progress to the next round, the live competition. But you could sense Mr. Levine’s struggle: a big part of him wanted to go the other way. He was the winning coach last year, thanks to his student Javier Colon, but Mr. Levine knows perfectly well that despite the show’s conceit, a voice is not in fact enough. Too bad nobody told that to the decision makers on “American Idol” this season, who appear to have all but abandoned their search for a general-interest pop star in favor of a set of finalists with distinctive — probably too distinctive — voices. It’s as if, unnerved by the breakaway success of “The Voice,” “Idol” has opted to import what it perceived to be its competitor’s advantage — choosing voices over people — without realizing that the decisions should go the other way. – Read more at The New York Times

I have tattoos, I like to dye my hair, I used to have piercings.” Watch the Video at SeattlePI

She’s got the whole package. She’s got a huge voice and she’s so young! I can’t believe it. They all have great voices so it’s gonna be tough — you never know what can happen — but I see a lot of careers for them in the future.” – Read more at Popcrush

Clay Aiken Disses Rihanna, Reveals Plastic Surgery – The “American Idol” alum was a guest on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen last night, where he got brutally honest about the current state of pop music during a game of “Plead the Fifth.” When asked which pop singer today wouldn’t make it past the first round of auditions on “American Idol,” Aiken was taken aback … because, according to him, it’s too hard to pick just one! “There’s too many, I’ve stopped listening to them because they can’t sing” he said, before ultimately deciding on Rihanna … because she has “some pitch problems.” – Read more at Too Fab

    Hi Everyone

OK!’ It’s Idol chasing the Voice’? I understand that to mean that this season’s AI is soley concentrating on irrelevant distinctive voices; and has abandon everything else including the making of a star. Hmmm!

As I no longer watch AI since season 8 and have never watched the Voice. But  I go by what my family tells me; and I quote their views, ‘ These shows are no longer relevant its just for reality show lovers… Just go underground you will find a great star’.

Well they might have a point. But Mr Caramanica may have tapped into something we already know that singing  competitions no longer carry a lot of weight as it use to. Even if the Voice is looking for something more than a great singing voice; as he said Javier and the other contestant did not reap the rewards! the judges did. If thats the case why dont the judges have a reality show purposely for past singers who want to become relevant again and sell their wares on their own shows. Well that would be a revalation! Who will we vote for?

For me AI have never been about finding a pop star its about finding a ‘safe Pop star’ that can sell records-or can they still do so? Sometimes its timing!

I know that a distinct voice has to be relevant to the times or Era. I imagine someone like Adele winning The voice but I cannot see her winning AI. Why? AI’s format while not obvious at first they want you to fit into a chosen format created just for you most of the time and this is a major problem for many artists.

So in the end what ever the show or the format, the aim is always to find a star. But today  what many contestants gain from these shows is just a temporary exposure. Surely they should be thinking of a smart plan B. i.e.Films/Plays/Writers/Entrepreneurs that connects with their talent.

Also great marketing merged with some talent can put you on the map. Ask 1 Direction!

    Thanks

    Regards

    B-babie

Wait, are they going to sing 2 songs or Nigel changed the theme out of the blue?

  • Anonymous

Oh, nevermind. He just posted now.

On #IDOL they’re singing Madonna as a trio as well as their solos Hollie-Carrie Underwood, Jessica-Beyonce’ and Skylar-Miranda Lambert

  • http://twitter.com/cheeseE1 EH

A trio?  Do we get Heejun, Phillip and Joshua singing Like a Virgin, Material Girl and Papa Don’t Preach?

  • Anonymous

Hollie singing one of Carrie’s songs should be interesting.  I hope she picked an up beat one, but not Before He Cheats.  That song is hard to sing, because it always comes off like the singer is trying to impersonate Carrie.

Confused.  None of the idols have hinted at having more than one number tonight.  At first I thought Nigel was just trolling with the Madonna tweet, but the later one about their actual choices seems to be spot on with what was expected.

I don’t get this show anymore — or maybe I get that they are bound and determined to promote Interscope every which way they can.  Stevie is with Interscope, so they have her as a mentor while three of the girls sing a medley of songs by … Madonna. Not Stevie Nicks, but Madonna? This is like Bizarro American Idol.

  • iani

I don’t understand either; it’s like forget RCA the idol-label (or other labels), hello Interscope the idol-helper/label. At least there was no “face” of RCA on TV.

I don’t understand either; it’s like forget RCA the idol-label (or other labels), hello Interscope the idol-helper/label.

Didn’t the press coverage at the time of the switchover to Universal as the “tied-in” major label say that there was going to be much more label involvement than there had been with RCA? I vaguely remember us all speculating about what that would mean; certainly I came nowhere near guessing correctly.

When Sony had the “first dibs” contract, were the mentors largely with Sony labels? I know they weren’t all with RCA itself, as I remember mentors who were definitely Arista or Epic types; but I’ve never tried to do a count myself. (And I’m not volunteering, as a simple recap of historic sites and exciting restaurants in Southern Arizona is turning into an all-day-to-write multi-part saga, and that’s with omitting 90% of it.)

A knife! Wow that’s scary. I bought and love both of David’s records. But apparently I don’t keep up enough. I didn’t even know he had a house in California. Pretty house though. I do remember him buying one in Missouri after he won Idol.

I hope you’re wrong because I can’t deal with another uneventful season of Idol. My faves keep singing ballads though so yeah…One finally went upbeat and was trashed for it.(Whether or not anyone thinks that is was deserved is irrelevant. Steven’s tude was out of line. IMO)He probably won’t be doing another upbeat too anytime soon as a result. :/ I’ve noticed that Idol seasons following ones where I found a singer I really love sometimes tend to be lackluster in comparison. As strong as this group is no one(At the moment. Things could change.)is giving me “I’m gonna stan so hard for you for the rest of the year and beyond!!” vibes. But maybe that’s a good thing. I can only faithfully follow so many of my faves. I’m just barely keeping up with all of the Haley news as of late.

As for your statement about it being “Another season where nobody from Idol gets played on Top 40…”I think Haley’s music has a very good shot at being played on Top 40, but I’m a biased fan so what do I know? lol “Free” apparently has no clear radio market anyway. *CoughHACWithPossibleTop40Cough* Oh look…The same markets that Kris is shooting for with “The Vision Of Love”. Well I’ll be. And Adam was played on Top 40 too. Hmm…Or are you only talking about AI9 and AI10 with a bit of AI7? If so sorry. My opinion on Haley’s(And Kris’s)potential radio play stands though. lol Not sure about folks from AI11′s future at radio, but who knows?

I saw Clay Aiken reveal on Live TV that he had plastic surgery for his temporomandibular joint (the joint of the jaw). According to Aiken, he wanted to remove the fat out of his chin. After looking at his before and after photos, I noticed the evenness of his face. Plastic surgery went well, I guess. It definitely went okay. I just hope the surgery won’t affect his singing.
