‘American Idol’ Conundrum: Why Are Heejun And DeAndre Still In? – There’s almost always a singer on each season of “American Idol” who makes it way deeper into the competition than expected. But season 11 of the show has seen two unlikely finalists — Heejun Han and DeAndre Brackensick — stumble into the top nine and onto this summer’s cast tour despite a string of, respectively, jokey and lackluster performances that have drawn assorted raspberries from the judges and outright derision at times from music-industry icon and show mentor Jimmy Iovine. ‘American Idol’: Heejun Han wonders, ‘Do I really belong here?’ – “To be honest, Top 9 was beyond my goal. My goal was to make it to Top 24,” he says. “But after last week, I realized there are just so many people who believe in me and so many people that I was representing at this point, so my attitude towards the competition slightly changed. Now I want to be more greedy about it. Now I want to be more hungry about it.” – Read more at Zap2it

‘American Idol’ Top 9 talk Stevie Nicks: ‘My favorite mentor ever’ – The “American Idol” Top 9 might be a very diverse group of singers with different outlooks on life, but they can all agree on one thing: Stevie Nicks is the best mentor they’ve ever had. “She was amazing,” gushes Jessica Sanchez. For Elise Testone, the mentoring experience was especially wonderful because she actually got to sing with the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman. – Read more at Zap2it

‘American Idol’ contestants get singing advice … and ‘spiritual financial aid’ – But as it turns out, another perk of being on the show is “spiritual financial aid” for the hopefuls and their families, though not from the show itself. And just for those more spiritually inclined singers — some of whom are approached, and some who seek it out.
Proud Christian Colton Dixon is the latest “Idol” singer to hook up with a Southern California ministry that provides that extra bit of help. “Colton is the Tim Tebow of ‘American Idol,’ ” said Leesa Bellesi, who founded the Kingdom Assignment ministry in Orange County with her husband, preacher Denny Bellesi. “I have had some really unique opportunities to pray over (Colton) and give input where I can.” Read more at Today.com

Erika Van Pelt: ‘I Felt Shafted’ by American Idol Judges – “I definitely felt a little shafted by their decision not to save me,” she tells PEOPLE, referring to the panel’s ability to veto the audience’s decision one time during the season. “It’s one of those things that, in hindsight, I’m looking at it like they didn’t want to use their save this early.” In her chat with PEOPLE, Erika cited Casey Abrams’s elimination and subsequent save by the judges early on in season 10. Then, when frontrunner Pia Toscano also ended up in the bottom just weeks later, there was no opportunity to save her, and Toscano was sent home in what has become one of Idol’s most shocking eliminations. – Watch the video at People.com

‘American Idol’ Veteran Haley Reinhart’s New Single ‘Defines’ Her – She may not have been crowned the winner of last season’s “American Idol,” but that hasn’t seemed to have any effect on the career of third-place finisher Haley Reinhart. The singer captivated viewers week after week on “Idol” by bringing her own soulful flare to songs like Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Lady Gaga’s “You and I.” And now, nearly a year later, the jazzy singer is finally ready to show fans who she really is with “Free,” the first single off her debut album, Listen Up! – Read more at MTV

Scotty McCreery builds momentum for ACM Awards – “It’s a huge deal,” McCreery says of the nomination, seated on his tour bus with his parents, Mike and Judy McCreery, before a Great American Country television taping in February. “It’s been a crazy year for us. There’s been a lot of work put into it. It’s one of those things where you’re recognized for all the hard work you’ve put up, but you’re just going there to have fun. If you get it, cool. If you don’t, you’re still having a good time.” But even with his success, McCreery says he’s still the same kid he was before American Idol. The Garner, N.C., native attends the same school he did pre-American Idol — something he was warned would be impossible following his success on the popular fan-voted televised talent contest. – Read more at Tennessean.com

OFFSTAGE: Carrie Underwood’s “Most Random Mix of Music Ever” – If you look on my iPod, I have the most random stuff. It’s just the most random mix of music ever,” she said. But she says that’s what makes it possible for her to perform with Steven Tyler one day, then Tony Bennett the next. “Those are polar opposites, but I feel so comfortable in both places. My album’s a lot like that. It’s a big ol’ puzzle. And everything has its own place. And has its own piece,” Underwood revealed. – Read more at CMT
