Idol Headlines for 03/16/12

Cops bash ‘Idol’ – Camden County Freeholder Jeffrey Nash said there was no excuse for breaking the law, but he thought the show could have handled the incident better. “For the producers of the billion-dollar show to expose, embarrass and interrogate a young man without an attorney in front of 40 million viewers was an outrage,” Nash said. – Read more at the New York Post

‘American Idol’ castoff Shannon Magrane: ‘This is just the beginning for me’ – “It’s definitely really upsetting knowing that you’ve come so far and it has to end here,” she admits to Zap2it after the Top 12-turned-Top 11 results show. “But just thinking about it, out of 121,000 people who auditioned for American Idol, I’m in the 11, so I’m definitely really proud of myself.” “Just being up there, when I’m singing for my life, I’m just trying to give everything that I’ve got at the moment,” she says. “It’s definitely really hard having to sing then, because you’re thinking, ‘Oh man, am I going home now or are they going to use their save, their one save?’ It’s just really crazy, you have to get really prepared for that.” – Read more at Zap2it

Lana Del Rey does ‘American Idol’: Live from inside the taping – Zap2it was in the house for her performance of “Video Games,” which was taped after the Top 11 results show that sent 16-year-old Shannon Magrane packing back to Florida and will air on an episode later in March, and let us be the first to tell you that this was leagues better than her disastrous turn on “Saturday Night Live” in January. – Zap2it

‘X Factor’: Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan interested in judging seat – When asked by whether he’d be open to the judging position, he says, “I’d love it.” Corgan then goes on to offer a backhanded compliment to the show and “American Idol.”
“I don’t have a problem with ‘Idol’ or ‘X Factor,’ I have a problem with when those things are not given the proper contextual hue…If there’s an ‘American Idol’ there should be a proper alternative counterbalance — if there was hair metal, there was grunge,” Corgan says. – Read more at Zap2it

I am a little out of the loop:  I thought that Alana Del Ray’s whole shtick is that she was almost all manufactured sound, manufactured artist, even though she has a voice, so I haven’t bothered to listen.  What is the story on her?

Quoting a poster from the Pulse music board:

I went to a filming for CMT on Wednesday and Lauren sang 5
songs: Georgia Peaches, Tupelo, The Middle, I’m Not One Of Them and
Dirt Road Prayer. So I would assume they’re thinking of one of those for
the next single, but who knows.

This was the filming at 12th & Porter. I think they’ll at least put these performances up online eventually but they may also show them on TV too.

David Archuleta is featured in MYX, the “number one music magazine in the Philippines”.  It’s a really nice article and it’s in English:

I wonder how many people Idol might have turned off with the handling of Jermaine on tv Wed. night?  It was right for booting him for lying to them about a record, but it wasn’t necessary to do the whole backstage bit with him.  It wasn’t as though he beat his girlfriend up or something.  Oh wait, you beat your girlfriend up and you still keep your record contract and all.  My bad.

Jennifer needs to tone down on the bronzer and glitter…

Aw a Chicago radio station just did a tinychat with Adam, and since the chat was scrolling too fast for Adam for to read fan questions they started popping in fans on vid to talk to him. LOL so funny to watch some of them freak out when they realized they were talking directly to Adam. The station tweeted some adorbs screencaps.

  • V Jemmy

Agreed.  I think he’d be a good addition to X-Factor.

That chat was so awkward it was hilarious! Those young girls were so starstruck by having Adam right there they forgot their questions even when they could speak!! What the heck was that high school guy doing, walking around with his computer?

  • Chris

I am torn over her next single. DRP or I’m not One of Them are my favorites. DRP is beautiful but I worry about radio play so INOOT may be most successful. Tupelo is nice but something with a bit more kick may get radio stations play list.

  • Moria Polonius

What is the story on her?

The story is that she presents a different manufactured sound than normal. She’s ~artistic and retro. A bit like Adele, only prettier.

    That’s about it.

Hah I have no idea, but he was so excited it was cute.

Preview video for Sunday’s Celebrity Apprentice:

  • Enough already!

Idol did good hiring Steven Tyler, so pretty sure Simon will copy that act and hire an aging rocker to give his show some cred.   Now all he needs is to give the show some watchability.

OK  Magazine tweeted that One Direction has landed a tv show on Nickelodeon.  I think that Big Time Rush should be very afraid.

Woohoo!! Looks like Glee will be covering another Kelly Clarkson song :)
@msleamichele:twitter @kelly_clarkson you are such an incredible singer. Had the honor of recording one of your songs today.. It wasn’t easy but so fun!!!

I think Simon Cowell is trying to remake The Monkees w/One Direction.  TV Show + singing music + free promotion = lots of cash.
