‘Idol’ winner Scotty McCreery happy to be back on mound – GARNER — Scotty McCreery lived out his dream Saturday afternoon, one of the dreams he had before he became an “American Idol.” McCreery played in his first varsity baseball game for the Garner Trojans, pitching the seventh inning of the Trojans’ 8-7 loss to Fuquay-Varina, one of the area’s best teams. The senior right-hander’s return to the mound – he last pitched in a 2010 summer league game against another Fuquay-Varina – was as impressive as his run last spring on the hit Fox TV singing competition. – News Observer

BTW grad competing on ‘Voice’ turned bad decisions into good – He was a teenage runaway, crashing on friends’ couches while attending Booker T. Washington High School. It was a chaotic lifestyle that made it easier for him to experiment with drugs. “And I still graduated by the grace of God,” Rogers said during a recent phone interview from New York, which he now calls home. “I made a lot of bad decisions,” he said, alluding to past addictions. But he’s been sober for several years, and he’s accomplished things no mere knucklehead could lay claim to – chief among them, being a contestant on NBC’s reality-competition show “The Voice.” – Read more at Tulsa World
